Dugroz may be found at -250, -1800 in the Swamp of No Hope.

You say, 'Hail, Dugroz'

Dugroz says 'Fffrroaaak!! Go away! I don't want to [work for them] anymore! Go find another slave!'

You say, 'What work for them?'

Dugroz looks relieved and eyes you, considering. Finally, he begins to recant his tale. 'I was once the slave of an important Iksar necromancer. I was his Dugroz, his head slave. One night, I heard two other slaves talking about me. I could barely hear them but what I did hear frightened me. My master was going to use me one last time. He was going to sacrifice me to craft a spell component for one of his most powerful spells. Hearing this, I used my privileges as his head slave and made my [escape].'

You say, 'How did you escape?'

Dugroz says 'As the head slave, I was allowed to move freely throughout my master's compound. I came across one of the slavemasters asleep in his chair and carefully relieved him of his [keys]. Then, quietly, I made my escape.'

You say, 'What keys?'

Dugroz says 'After I escaped, I lost myself in the depths of the swamp. I discarded all the keys but one. I will gladly give it to you if you can do me a [small favor].'

You say, 'What small favor?'

Dugroz blinks his eyes and leans forward. He whispers so quietly you must strain to hear him, 'I have taken up the same magics as my master. I require two components to complete a spell I have been researching for quite some time. The first is a vampire's fang. I have heard tales of a vampire who haunts the ruins of Kaesora. I also need a jade weapon stained by the blood of a chokidai. Look in the Lake of Ill Omen at the sarnak outpost. The leader used to herd chokidai, or so I am told.'

The "vampire's fang" is a Xalgozian Fang, dropped by Xalgoz in the depths of Kaesora. The "jade weapon stained by the blood of a chokidai" is a Jade Chokidai Prod, dropped by the Chancellor of Di`Zok at the back of the Sarnak fort, by the Lake of Ill Omen. Give these two items to Dugroz.

Dugroz says 'My thanks to you, ______, take this key, I know not what door it opens. Now if I can just find that necklace of power that I took from my master's lair!'

You gain experience!!

You receive the Key to Charasis. Once you zone into Charasis (a.k.a. the Howling Stones), it will go on your keyring.

More information needed on the "necklace of power."

Hi team, excellent posts below as always... Couple of things to add for folks on time locked servers.

I just got the two pieces with a very untwinked 45 wizard. The Chancellor was an easy kill, two biggish nukes and he ran. Getting the fang, however was touch and go, ending with 12% health although mana was fine. The other MOBs in and around the church are indeed on a 20 minute timer, Xalgoz is 30 minutes with his placeholders so once split it was easy to plan to keep it split.

Handin was uneventful, again at 45.

There shouldn't be any reason that there would be a level cap.

Just attempted to MQ it and it wont allow you to turn in either half first so you have to have both on the same character to get the key.

Since old expansions are rendered useless by the developers themselves, yes, you no longer need a key. I ponder why they even bothered making this change. Just release expansions and continue making previous expansions useless please. I hope the next expansion is even better and even more hp and mana than ever and I hope it ruins all the old work people did. Oh yeah and let's pretend the low end game doesn't exist too and make everyone start at level 51. It's great, play everquest, "your in our high end use the latest expansion only world now."

Nope, level 52 and still need a key. Standing right in front of the door right now. Key is required.

Wrong you just don't need the key at 45+ or maybe it is 40+. When they revamped the keying system to open all locked zones at certain levels HS opened at 46, then it was lowered to 45 and again later at 40 for Hotzone purposes.

I absolutely agree with this. The hundreds of thousands of newbies who sign up for EQ monthly are getting the shaft, man. Unlike the old schoolers, who think there is no low end game any more and are happy to advance as fast as possible, realizing, they can't find a group from level 1-70 or so, depending on server.

Bring back boats, staring at the spell book before level 35, mobs that are totally resistant to spells, raiders of different guilds fighting and training and griefing each other over limited end game content.

Bring back the inability to get to zone B from Zone A without using at least 1 to 2 hours of play time. Also, the need to find a necro to summon your corpse IF you can convince them to run the 7 zones and IF the necro is keyed. Bring back the people who offered that necro 50p after he ran to Seb and summoned two corpses and they say, "What, 50 P ain't enough?"

Bring back LFG for hours and being passed over because you are "Class x" and your DPS sucks or you can't heal or rez, you worthless slime.

Bring back the game for those of use who still have our epic 1.0, which we raided for, and those +3 int batfang earrings. I, personally can't wait.

And get rid of all those cool clickies, too. I hate those.

And oh yeah, keys for zones that drop gear that a huge portion of the server does not care to ever attain. Those zones defintely need to be keyed.

From the time I decided to do this quest, until the time I zoned into Howling Stones (and got the key added onto my keyring), took me an astounding 90 minutes. Just me (60 Shaman) and my pet, with only my buffs on and virtue. Fortunately, both the Chancellor and Xalgoz were up, so only had to fight gray conned mobs to them (Xalgoz conned green to me).
Have done this quest for most of my characters, and have spent many, MANY, hours sitting and watching buffs go bye-bye, until at least Xalgoz popped. Used to be you had to group to get him, and he only drops 2 of the danged fangs too. So, guess it was my lucky day today.
Best of Luck to all the rest of you folks, it is not that difficult. (BTW, when you zone into Kaesora, levitate down from the first pit in front of you, all the way, and follow the game map around all the way to the left of it. That's where the hole to get down to the old fort is. Xalgoz is in the building to the right of the walkway, and spawns at the "altar").

I read below that this was MQ'able and when I went to turn in the pieces Dugroz wouldn't accept them individually, had to have both fang and prod in trade window for it to work.

Did X-guy today and had been having trouble getting to him lots of SI Spiders and such and this was going to first drop down and dropping to bottom...Not the way to go. The otherway I tried today was a piece of cake. Go to the first drop down get off at mid level or firse oepning down and follow this invised to room with hole in floor drop down to right corner and follow the hall down and bam in the dead area so IUD and stay to the left of corridors and there is the church all dead except X-Guy and he dropped 2 fangs< of course> and necklace was hoping for the Staff of the dreaded gaze but alas no such luck. The chancelor was soo easy also both were green to this level 58 Necro <with the new conning system> so I got a tiny bit of Exp killing them. Now to get the key.

well, often found in Howling stones/charasis is the "Necklace of Superiority", a neclace. stating someone is superior in a way reflects power. maybe it wasnt a quest, just a drop that one of the mobs happened to stumble upon. just a theory. may be true, may not be. who knows.

I tried to give him a Necklace of Superiority , but he just gives it back saying he has no need for it.

It is most likely just flavor text.

I went to get Xalgozian Fang first. I soloed this with my 66 Cleric spell buffed with no KEI. to get down there I let mobs agro and AOE nuked. The longest part was finding where PH spawned I used the map at this URL to find the church. http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/kaesora.html The second item took me less then 10 mins and that was all travel time. Jade Chokidai Prod I did with 66 Chanter and 66 Cleric. The Chancellor spawns at approx. n2511 p5013 p229. MOB Was up when i got there.

This place is incredible exp!
Loot aint that much these days, but I think getting the key was well worth it.

Only tough part is, as said before, the entrance. If a foolhearty adventurer jumps in alone, you might get killed by the few mobs at entrance. I went in first time and gated quickly since I came quite unprepaired... Second attempt took things calmly and they went down noprob.

Also, after killing few golems and noticing that the doors require key, I fell from the fake bridge (luckily had levi still on). Ran around downstairs, walked throught some Venril Sathir painting, cleared the rooms down there, until fell down from ANOTHER trap (seemed to be a red mat), which dropped me to a room with some Ikky monk lying in the corner. He was kos, but didnt aggro. Sat down, then he did aggro. Guy seemed to have alot of hps, but otherwisely he was a wussy. After some slime popped on me, gated out.

Fun zone, no doubt. Might be most interesting if things werent all light blue.

Easy except...
# Aug 10 2005 at 2:53 AM Rating: Decent
As for Kaesora, the only part that you might want to watch out for as a big precaution is if you go strait forward upon zone-in, there will be a hole...If you fall in you WILL get about 5 spiders on you. In my experience they were all necromancer/cleric mobs. I was level 54 I believe and I'm a necromancer. I just necro tanked them down and let my pet BS abit, if you're not a solo class you might want to take more precautions like invis in that spot. Other then that was a push over, I got a few neat Cure major poison potions too (if one of the necromancers get you with a poison dot). Anyway, hope this helps.

This quest is decievingly easy. I'm a 51 Wizard, and solo'd it no problem. Which is great, now I'm keyed to Howling Stones. A zone I am now very afraid of.

See, Howling Stones seemed like it might be a great place to solo. I figured keyed zone ment good drops and nice XP. The key was easy enough, so I figured the zone would be relitively easy.

Wrong.

I didn't do my research, and after my experience, noticed it wasn't noted in this thread, so here it is: Do not even zone into Howling Stones without a group.

I did, and suprise, second I'm in I have 2 or 3 mobs on me. Not sure of the number, because by the time my screen loaded I was down to 10% health. Needless to say I died.

So what to do now? I have a corpse in a zone I cannot even enter without dying. I spent some time asking for help in PoK, asked a few friends if they could help, even went thru LFG looking for someone willing to help. No bites. Finally a guildy logged on with his 3 65 toons and got my corpse for me, but I just wanted to let you guys know: Watch yourself.

This is a fun zone with decent xp. A few more levels and you can solo the entrance with ease. Actually, now that you know the proximity of the mobs you could go in at this level, root and blast. For those who dont know, the entrance has 2 mobs that wander around the zone in. The biggest problem is that they can either be skellies or the big sperm with teeth so invis might work or might not, depending on whats there. The sperm things are what drop the no rent key to the first wing, west I think. Its been a while for me in this zone but I think the spawn time is around 20 minutes.

To come and explore, you should at least come with a partner to help stay alive for the first few kills. Its pretty easy once the entrance mobs are down. Then you can med up and take on the golems guarding the wing doors. At mid 50s, most likely you will get 2 at a time but as you get higher they will come down single. You can get decent xp up to about 60 I think in this zone.

Good luck and have fun, hope this info helps anyone looking into going here.
