Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".

This is a solo task introduced with EverQuest's 13th anniversary. It's expected to only be available during anniversary season (mid-March through mid-April).
It begins with Sam Napth, a Halfling in the Plane of Knowledge at about -215, -90, -155 (next to the Soulbinder).
You say, 'Hail, Sam Napth'
Sam Napth says 'I've been expecting you. I have great need of adventurers to help me deal with an important issue. There are a lot of tasks that need doing, I'd be grateful if you could help me out. You see, I've been trying to prove to some important people that such things are foolishness. So I've arranged some tests to prove it.'
A task window pops up offering several anniversary tasks.
You have been assigned the task 'Music For a Weary Soul'.
Sam Napth wants you to test playing a particular flute out after duck and see how it affects your luck. He predicts bad results, but he could be worrying about nothing. There is a bard in possession of the flute, and Sam wants you to approach him and see about working with him. His name is Tabin the Dirge. His lackey, Roonce, will guide you to and from the village.
Sam's lackey, Roonce, will lead you to the village where Tabin the Dirge was last seen performing over the last few nights at the inn. The villagers have said they've seen him wandering out alone, and ghosts and spectres arise at the sound of his flute.
Roonce stands next to Sam Napth.
You say, 'Hail, Roonce'
Roonce says 'Are you here about the [rabbit] or the [flute]? If so, let me know. I'll give you the details.'
You say, 'It's about the flute'
Roonce says 'Oh, right. Well Sam wants you to meet a bard who has seen some unusual effects with his flute. I'll go lead you to the meeting place, but then I have things to do. I'm not getting paid to stay and listen to the riveting conversation you two are sure to have.'

You say, 'Hail, Roonce'
Roonce says 'I'll wait here while you finish finding this bard and talking to him about his flute and ghosts or whatever. Just hurry up. I want to [leave].'
1. Speak to Tabin the Dirge 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Tabin is found at location -2800, 600, 20 (second floor of the inn, the building beside the zone-in spot).
You say, 'Hail, Tabin the Dirge'
Tabin the Dirge says 'If you are here for the normal performance, you are a little late. No? No, I can tell by the way you're looking at me you're here because of the rumors you've heard of my late-night playing. It's true, playing this flute after dark does summon the spirits of the dead. While some consider this bad luck, I happen to be looking for a particular spirit. You are welcome to join me in my nightly journey. Let me know when you are ready to [go].'
2. Follow the bard 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Task Window Says: Follow the bard and listen to him play. Observe what happens for Sam, and help Tabin find the spirit he seeks.
You say, 'Ready to go!'
Tabin the Dirge says 'Please keep up. I don't mind you coming along, but finding this spirit I seek is important.'
Tabin the Dirge starts playing a sad, soulful melody on his blood red flute. After a moment, wispy figments emerge from the fields. Ghosts.
Tabin the Dirge briefly stops playing to ask, 'Could you please ask them if they've seen a spirit named Karina?' He continues playing.
Your task 'Music For a Weary Soul' has been updated.
Two wisps appear.
3. Hail the farm ghosts 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Note: They'll both attack upon hail.
You say, 'Hail, a farmer`s spirit'
a farmer`s spirit says 'Blood, blood everywhere. That is our last memories before death. And now you bandits return, waking us from the dead after you murdered our family. We were simple farmers. We had nothing of value, and we meant no harm. But now. Now you will pay now with your own corporeal form!'
4. Kill the vengeful spirits of the farmers 0/2 (Oceangreen Village)
Task Window Says: The spirits have mistaken you for bandits. Put them back to rest.
5. Speak to Tabin 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
You say, 'Hail, Tabin the Dirge'
Tabin the Dirge says 'I apologize for that. The spirits are not always kind when they are called. I do appreciate your assistance though, so I can give you your own flute if you would like. You can conjure the spirits yourself. Please help me find Karina, and I will do whatever you ask.'
You receive a "Blood Red Flute".
6. Play your flute and search for the woman 0/5 (Oceangreen Village)
Easy way to do this is just invis up and then click the flute, none of the mobs see invis.
After receiving the flute, clicking it summons additional KOS mobs which attack on spawn (mezzable, memblurrable, slowable, hit for a max ~5,000).
Spawn sets are random and can consist of one of the following:
- one spectre
- two wisps
- three undead (two zombies; one skeleton)
7. Talk to Tabin 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
After you've clicked the flute five times, hail Tabin the Dirge.
You say, 'Hail, Tabin the Dirge'
Tabin the Dirge says 'Our invidiual efforts are not enough. Let us join forces. I know Karina's spirit is here, and I will stay here as long as necessary. Play your flute and follow me. Tonight will be the night I find her.'
8. Play the flute for the bard and head into the village 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
9 Find Karina, Tabin's lost love 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Karina spawns near the center of the town directly west of where Tabin stops walking (next to a house and a cart at about -2633, +660, +1).
You say, 'Hail, Karina'
Karina says 'That song brought me here. Who are you? I don't know you, but I will follow you, to find out who is calling me.'
10. Return to Tabin 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
You say, 'Hail, Tabin the Dirge'
Tabin the Dirge says 'This is perfect! I will need some time alone to speak to Karina. Please leave us. It may be a good idea to send some of these souls that refuse to return to rest to their peace. The villagers will not be happy if they wake up to the undead wandering around. Thank you, my friend.'
11. Put the undead to rest 0/5 (Oceangreen Village)
Kill any five undead in the area.
12. Speak to Tabin 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Hail him and then follow him.
You say, 'Hail, Tabin the Dirge'
Tabin the Dirge says 'Welcome back, my friend. Sadly, Karina does not remember me. I have one other idea, but we should go see her descendent who lives in this village first. Please. Join us.'
13. Join Karina and Tabin as they head to Karina's descendent 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Task Window Says: Follow Karina and Tabin to Karina's relative's house.
a village woman emerges from her house, looking frightened at the group of you, especially the spectre of Karina.
Tabin the Dirge says 'So this is your descendent, Karina, my love. She does not appear to be very happy to see us. I think I can help you remember, though. Perhaps you remember me better looking like this.'
Tabin the Dirge `s illusion lifts, his visage melts away, and reveals his true appearance, a handsome vampire.
Karina says 'No! I remember him now. I told you, I never wanted to see you again.'
14. Speak to Karina's Spirit 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Task Window Says: Tabin is actually a vampire, and Karina was once his lover. Speak to Karina.
You say, 'Hail, Karina'
Tabin the Dirge says 'I have searched too long, Karina! I will not be denied. If I cannot have you, I will have your kin! You brought this upon her!'
Tabin the Dirge leaps at the frightened woman, his fangs tearing into her flesh and draining her blood! She falls to the ground.
Karina says 'Now I know who this man is. He is a vampire that I was once cared for, long ago. But I found a new love, and left him. He could not accept it. Please, you must stop him. He will kill you and my kin to have me. There is nothing I can do to stop him.'
15. Destroy Tabin the Dirge 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
Task Window Says: Tabin has attacked Karina's descendent. Defeat Tabin the Dirge.
There is nothing special about this fight.
You have slain Tabin the Dirge!
16. Talk to Karina's spirit 0/1 (Oceangreen Village)
You say, 'Hail, Karina'
Karina says 'I am sorry we could not save this young woman. But I will give her death meaning. Now I can take her body, and once again find my true love. Thank you for your help.'
17. Return to Sam 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)
Task Window Says: Unfortunately, the village woman died in the attack. Karina has vowed to use her descendent's body to find her true lost love. Talk to Roonce so that you can leave this miserable village behind.
You say, 'Hail, Roonce'
Roonce says 'I'll wait here while you finish finding this bard and talking to him about his flute and ghosts or whatever. Just hurry up. I want to [leave].'
You say, 'Let me leave!'

You say, 'Hail, Sam Napth'
The flute conjured horrible things, the bard was actually a vampire, a ghost woman took over her dead relative's body, and Roonce complained the whole journey back. Hopefully, Sam Napth is satisfied with your report.
