This solo task is the fourth in a series of five that begins with Gihbra Artinguard in Volska's Husk. He is located at approximately -140, -165, -47. Be careful in this zone as there are no especially safe points, including the locations of task givers.
In order to request this task, you must first have completed "Into the Fire", "Uncover the Truth", and "Autochthonous Support". You say, 'Hail, Gihbra Artinguard' Gihbra Artinguard says 'Thank you for eliminating the Bellikos overseeing the Mephits. I'm beginning to see how everything works down here, and I think there is a way to [destabilize] the social system.' You say, 'Destabilize it?' Gihbra Artinguard says 'Yes, I know you've done much for me, ______, and I thank you -- Brell thanks you. But there is more to do. If what you've told me already is accurate, each race in here must have a leader. It is silly to think that each creature can do whatever they want, with no one to tell them what rocks to mine, or what food to cultivate, or when to sleep, or what to fight. Order is natural. Brell commands, and we obey; the foreman tells the worker where to wield his pickaxe; the council governs, and the citizens comply. The [wise and strong] will always be the leaders of the foolish and weak.' You say, 'Wise and strong?' Gihbra Artinguard says 'I'm sure it is no different here. There is no creature as foolish as the one who thinks he is completely free to do as he pleases. Above him always, just out of his vision, is a fist, a sword, or an edict waiting to crush him if he strays from the will of those better than he. And above all is Brell. His will is greater than that of these heretics. They have strayed from the path: It is not freedom; it is rebellion. And Brell will [crush] them.' You say, 'Crush?' Gihbra Artinguard says 'In here, ______, we are the arms of Brell. I waited to tell you this until I knew more about the situation here in the husk, and until I knew I could trust you: I came here with Brell's blessing. The Coldain sent me to investigate, but I know nothing of war or espionage. I petitioned the council of the Shining City. They heard my case, recognized its gravity, and sent me with Brell's knowledge and aid to thwart the plans of the First. They then gave me knowledge of a powerful enchantment: the Spell of Brell's Compulsion. I can cast it on you, and those who speak to you while its effect holds cannot help but divulge their secrets -- perfect for our [plans]. You see, even here Brell asserts his will!' You say, 'Plans?' You have been assigned the task 'The Arms of Brell'. Gihbra Artinguard says 'I have cast the spell on you. Now, speak to the leaders of the races. Find their weaknesses and exploit them. If we can unseat them from their positions of power, there will be confusion among the races. The fragile order established in the husk will become unbalanced. The Dwarves will be unable to mine for minerals; the Gnomes will stop building their clockworks; the Gnolls and Kobolds will stop hunting for Sporali; and the Sporali will flee the caverns. The Bellikos will have no choice but to expose themselves and try to restore order. That will be our chance to strike.' Hail Fibros Geripon, leader of the Sporali 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: With the spell of Brell's Persuasion upon you, the leaders of the husk will be compelled to speak with you. Fibros is found in the sporali caves at location -525, -640, -143. You say, 'Hail, Fibros Geripon' Fibros Geripon looks shaken as Brell's blessing surrounds you and you gaze into his mind. 'What do you seek? Who are you? You want to know of me? I am Fibros Geripon...I lived as a captive in the Cliknar camps...for so long...I cannot remember how long...and then I escaped and ended up here...and I...' Fibros Geripon shudders, and a new voice seems to emanate from his mouth. 'Who are you, and how do you know I [speak] for Fibros?' You say, 'I know you speak for Fibros...' Fibros Geripon says 'The old ones, shriveled and dried as they may be, speak, and the Sporali listen. The words of the old are foolish and fearful. They would have us flee or hide. But I, Omnus Vigilcap, am unafraid. For every Gnoll or Kobold who raids our cavern, a hundred Sporali will pay retribution... and I will [command] them.' You say, 'Command them?' Fibros Geripon says 'The Sporali respect this shell, this Fibros Geripon. He exhorts them to defend, and they defend. He asks them to sacrifice themselves in battle, and they obey. The Sporali are naturally weak, but I make them strong. If it were not for my [control] of the old one, they would not listen to the exhortations of a Sporali as bold as I.' You say, 'Your control?' Fibros Geripon says 'When I escaped from the Cliknar farms, I took pity on Fibros. He was an old Sporali, who had been a captive for an untold amount of time. His mind was mostly gone, but I could not leave him. I took him with me when I made my way to the husk. When the beasts began attacking us, I could not convince my brethren to defend themselves. The fearful lot would follow Fibros when he would bumble about and wedge himself into dark crevices and tremble. The Gnolls and Kobolds would sniff out the hiding Sporali and drag them off without resistance. But my [plan] would not let the beasts dine so easily.' You say, 'What plan?' Fibros Geripon says 'If his mind were stronger, it would not have worked. I infected Fibros with my own spores. They burrowed into his mind, and now I speak for him. The more spores I feed him, the greater control I exert over his will. But I am afraid; as I fight with the Gnolls and Kobolds, my body becomes scored with wounds. My spores bleed from me and drip behind me as I move throughout these caverns. The more I do battle, the fewer spores I have to influence Fibros. The spores are control: control of Fibros, control of the Sporali. If my voice were no longer heard, the Sporali would flee for their lives, and our grand experiment in self-hood would end.' Collect 5 of Omnus' Spore Globules 0/5 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Fibros Geripon is being controlled by Omnus Vigilcap. If you can get some of Omnus' spores, you might be able to take control of Fibros. These are groundspawns throughout the sporali caverns. Ingest 1 Omnus' Spore Globule 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Your mind is strong enough to resist any control Omnus might try to impose on you. Once you've collected five spores, right-click one of them to ingest it (note this does not break invisibility). You inhale a handful of Omnus' spores and feel a tingling spread behind your eyes. You ignore a voice like Omnus' that begins to whisper inside your mind... Give 4 Omnus' Spore Globules to Fibros Geripon 0/4 (Volska's Husk)) Task Window Says: Now that you've tapped into Omnus' means of control, commandeer the link by feeding more spores to Fibros. Fibros Geripon ingests Omnus' spores docilely. In your mind, you can see yourself through his eyes... Hail Fibros Geripon 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Now is your chance to speak through Fibros and influence the Sporali. You say, 'Hail, Fibros Geripon' Fibros Geripon's eyes stare distantly. He opens his mouth, and you hear your words spoken in his voice. 'Listen, Sporali! Our ways have been unwise! If we stand our ground, the Gnolls and the Kobolds will certainly destroy us. Our only chance to live is to flee these caverns and rejoin our brethren in Corathus. I have been led astray by Omnus Vigilcap! He is a fool and will surely cause our deaths if we follow his insane ideas. Listen to yourselves, not Omnus. Let us protect ourselves and leave this place!' Fibros Geripon falls silent. The nearby Sporali look at each other and nod in agreement. Hail Adins Tarbrew, leader of the Dwarves 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: The Sporali have listened to Fibros' words. You should speak to Adins Tarbrew and try to exploit the Dwarves' situation. Adins is located in the main Autarchian den, approximate location -1190, 39, -130. You say, 'Hail, Adins Tarbrew' Adins Tarbrew's eyes widen, and he sways a bit as he talks. 'I know what you want from me: beer! Everybody does. Back in Brell's rest, they'd all say, 'He brews better than Brell himself!' And it was true! After a day of battles, warriors would crowd the mess halls, and I'd serve those braggarts a batch of brew so stiff that Brell himself would have to revive them to fight again the next day! But that got [boring]. You say, 'Boring?' Adins Tarbrew says 'Yes, my brew became famous enough that Brell let me into his Shining City. Yes, I served suds to the entire council. But beer is beer. It gets you drunk. You never SEE anything! I wanted room to experiment, so I tried different ingredients: roots and extracts, minerals and powders, pulverized bones of creatures you've never heard of, beard clippings of the boldest of Dwarves. Then everyone [saw] plenty.' You say, 'Saw plenty?' Adins Tarbrew looks past you, as if he sees something at the back of the cavern. 'Ice dragons -- thousands of them -- swooping down on Shining City, scooping up Dwarves and Gnomes in their claws and dashing them against stone spires. A hundred Dwarves rallied against the attack: Overturning benches, breaking doors off hinges, ripping stones from monuments, they built battlements in the city square and held the dragons at bay. Until the effects of my brew wore off. For hours they had battled imaginary dragons, but the city looked like a real battlefield. Brell had me kicked out, and I was [forbidden] from brewing. You say, 'Forbidden?' Adins Tarbrew says 'Can you forbid a Kobold from fighting? A Gnoll from digging? Brewing is in my nature, and not even Brell himself can keep me from it. The First was right: satisfy yourself. Do whatever you were made to do. So, I settled here, where I can brew whatever I want and my [recipes] are appreciated.' You say, 'What recipes?' Adins Tarbrew says 'My fellow Dwarves love it. They gripe when they have to mine for minerals, or when the Gnomes steal our supplies, but they perk right up when they drink my brew. They come to me with hands shaking and eyes darting, and they leave with a healthy swagger and broad smile. I generally keep things going around here -- I tell them to get to work and bring me supplies, and then I reward them with [beer].' You say, 'Beer?' Adins Tarbrew says 'I brew it right here in the husk, and the recipe is really quite simple: two drops of Sporali blood, two handfuls of husk minerals, one mug of hot spring water, and one sprig of bitter lava root. At first I tried Sessiloid dung, but that made the workers too sleepy. I just leave it out now. Now, don't go telling the other Dwarves my recipe! If they knew how to make it themselves, they wouldn't bother listening to me anymore...' Brew some Somnolent Beer with special ingredients 0/1 (ALL) Task Window Says: The Dwarves are addicted to Adins' brew. You should make a special batch using 2 drops of Sporali Blood, 2 handfuls of Husk Minerals, 1 Mug of Hot Spring Water, 1 sprig of Bitter Lava Root, and 4 slugs of Sessiloid Dung. In a brew barrel, combine (no-fail): 4x Sessiloid Dung (drops from sessiloids in the nest area) 2x Drop of Sporali Blood (drops from sporalis) 2x Husk Minerals (groundspawn in the main part of Volska's Husk: -950, -55 and -893, 43) 1x Bitter Lava Root (groundspawn in the heart, 630, -70, -150) 1x Hot Spring Water (click on the bubble at the pool of water at -655, -361) This produces 5x "Somnolent Beer." NOTE: There is a brew barrel in the southernmost part of the southwest cave system: -1425, 200, -95. Give Somnolent Beer to 5 Autarchian workers 0/5 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Share the soporific beer and Adins' secret recipe with the Autarchian Dwarf workers. Non-KOS Autarchians workers are found in the back of the Autarchian den. Give the beer to five of them: an Autarchian worker says 'That's some tasty beer! Really, the recipe is that easy? I'll have to make more of this! I do feel a bit sleepy now, though...' Hail Adins Tarbrew 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: See what Adins thinks of your meddling. You say, 'Hail, Adins Tarbrew' Adins Tarbrew looks at you and laughs. He hiccups. 'You told them my recipe, didn't you? I knew you would. I knew better, but for some reason I told you anyway. I'm stupid. And why do all the workers look like they're sleepwalking? Looks like I'll have to concoct a newer, better brew, because they're through listening to me now. But how can I be mad at you? Who can be angry at a giant Gnome with a Froglok head?' Speak with Leathereyes, leader of the Gnolls 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: The Dwarves won't be able to mine for minerals when they're sleeping all day. Talk to Leathereyes, leader of the Gnolls, and see what you can do about them. Leathereyes is found in the main Autarchian den at approximately -1125, 445, -62. You say, 'Hail, Leathereyes' Leathereyes growls at you, his heavily scarred eyelids showing two slivers of contempt. 'Come to fight Leathereyes? He choke you and rip your throat and bury your skull while you live! He leads pack; you slink with tail between legs! Bark! Why does he [tell] you his secrets? You say, 'Tell me' Leathereyes says 'Horrible _____, don't talk to Leathereyes! Whine...Leathereyes is fierce, best Gnoll in Rest of Brell! Every night sleep with blood of hundred Kobolds on lips and teeth. But always they come back! Same face of skin Leathereyes tore! So he tears again...and wants real [death]!' You say, 'Death?' Leathereyes says 'Bark! Leathereyes wants crunch of Kobold in teeth, wants to bury bones deep...no rising again! Human female says snake tunnels have many Kobolds and much death. Leathereyes can kill all he wants, kill Kobolds and eat mushrooms. He tells Gnolls to come fight for him -- [fight and hunt] for fierce Leathereyes!' You say, 'Fight and hunt?' Leathereyes says 'But Leathereyes must bite and shake them. Tails in legs and full of fear...Leathereyes don't trust them. They yap and bark together; he sees them lapping at same pools. All want fight with Leathereyes, and bury him like many bones. But Leathereyes look strong! Gnolls too much in fear to challenge him -- no rivals to split the pack! Yap! Bark!' Hail Gihbra Artinguard and form a plan 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Leathereyes is afraid of losing respect of his fellow Gnolls. Gihbra might know how to exploit this fear. You say, 'Hail, Gihbra Artinguard' Gihbra Artinguard says 'It sounds as though Leathereyes rules by strength alone. If a Gnoll were to challenge him and win, the pack would turn on him. I'm sure you could tailor a passable Gnoll disguise with a few of their skins. I recall seeing a loom when I was in the Shining City...' Tailor a Gnoll Disguise 0/1 (ALL) Task Window Says: Maybe you can fool Leathereyes into thinking you're a Gnoll by tailoring a Gnoll disguise out of 5 Autarchian gnoll skins. In a loom or sewing kit, combine five Autarchian Gnoll Skins (dropped by gnolls in Volska's Husk). Wear the disguise and humiliate Leathereyes in battle 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Wear the disguise, hail Leathereyes, and humiliate him in battle. Don't kill him though. Cast the illusion on yourself and speak to Leathereyes, at which point he'll attack you. Beat him down to low health for the update. (When this happens, your illusion fades and the item disappears.) You say, 'Hail, Leathereyes' Leathereyes says 'Bark! You kill Gnolls? You challenge Leathereyes? His eyes scarred, but yours he gnashes in teeth!' Leathereyes says 'Leathereyes has no rivals! He rips meat from bones while you live!' Once he reaches 20% health, he goes unaggro. Hail Leathereyes 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: Leathereyes looks humiliated. You say, 'Hail, Leathereyes' The garment begins to fall apart. Leathereyes whimpers, tail between his legs. He looks up as you approach and barks. 'You saw Leathereyes lose? Whole pack saw! They follow rival. Leathereyes will tear them all, bleed their blood and drown the fire pools! You will want to re-invis and do "/pet back off" soon after this, as he eventually walks back to his spawn point and becomes attackable again. Pets will still have him in their attack queue, so they will re-attack him unless you stop them first. Return to Gihbra Artinguard 0/1 (Volska's Husk) Task Window Says: The Gnolls will no longer respect Leathereyes, having seen him beaten by a single Gnoll. Tell Gihbra of all the success you've had. You say, 'Hail, Gihbra Artinguard' Your task 'The Arms of Brell' has been updated. The first part of the plan is complete, but there is still another leader whose secrets you must exploit. Gihbra Artinguard says 'Wonderful, _____. Our plan is in motion. Already you have cast the husk into turmoil, now that several races have lost faith in their leaders. They will fight among themselves, the leaders and their followers, and we will be that much closer to seeing the will of Brell established once again. Brell's spell still has power left; let us talk further, as there is still more work to be done...' Rewards: 525 platinum Experience (how much exp?) ~200 Brellium Tokens Completion of this task leads into the final one in the series, "Brell's Will Be Done". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
