Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".
For an overview and list of EverQuest Anniversary events, see this quest entry. This is an anniversary quest available only during anniversary season (a few weeks during March and April). It was introduced in 2009 as part of EverQuest's 10th anniversary. This is one of 16 deity quests. For an overview of how rewards work and how these quests are linked with one another, see this writeup. Below here are the details for this particular quest. This task begins with a crystalline avatar, of which there are multiple spawns in the Plane of Knowledge. One is in the neutral area; another is at +200, -185, -108 (a floor above the ranger guild). a crystalline avatar says 'I am a creation of Veeshan. I have come here to test you and see if you and your kind have been attentive to the passage of the last ten years. If you are willing to test your knowledge I have a series of questions for you. You will have only a short time to answer them all. Do you wish to take my [challenge]?' OBJECTIVE: To answer five trivia questions correctly within three minutes. "Advisor" is a legitimate spelling for the word.
I started this quest not knowing that there were 3 Avatars to choose from.
I started with one of the avatars, got to the 5th question and the quest disappeared.
I knew this might be a possibility having read that it happened to someone else.
So, I started quest again and watched the time as I may have been too slow.
Sure enough, quest disappeared again.

Has anyone tried this lately? Seems to get to the fifth and final question, then timer disappears, and the task just end. Even if you get the right answer.

Both work. While running multiple characters through this, I've answered the question using both shadowspine and shadow spine and got credit for it both ways.

What's the lockout on this one if it is repeatable. I completed it a couple of days ago and was just told:
"You did well to answer my questions. I have no more questions for you."
"You did well to answer my questions. I have no more questions for you."
This seems to be the only one that is not repeatable once you beat it. I suppose it is too easy for the reward to make it available every day. Think about it. It only takes three minutes to win a 30 min experience pot. /grin
Not the only one that isn't repeatable. Bristlebane's task isn't repeatable either.

You also receive a "cloth cap" for this task. It has a clicky effect that summons some drakes to attack your opponent (not logged in right now, so don't recall the effect name).
