I have at momement a level 55 pally. I know of LOTs of Dark metal falchions on my server,no proc but still great stats and awesome look. I have never seen anyone with one of these, not saying there is not one, just no one bothers with air that much with SOV out and Soon SOL.
As for 2hs 1 hs debate. No contest 2hs wins sorry
and I have maxed skill in all weapons class but 2hb. As a matter of Fact some 2hp kick the snot out of the average 1hs Sheild combos. I have Narandis Lance which altho it only adds 8ac it has a boat load of stats to offset the lack of shield and a 44 dmg 45 dly ratio with a 500 point dot proc.
Another example I have a natures defender. Combine its dmg with the 45 ac and its stats and procs, and who wants a shield. If bash is included for all 2hs as rumored for paladins in SOL, this argument becomes antiquated.
I only want a shield these days if it is one of the really nice back equipable ones like Lodizal etc. This is all accomplishable for you paladins if you work hard. I do not belong to an uber guild buy I have worked smart on my char, and it has payed off

I see no use in Paladins of Tunare wasting their time on these PoA quests if the drops are so rare and random. Compared to the difficulty for the weapon in the PoA weapon quests and FD/FA quests, I suggest you simply visit PoH and kill the Corruptor of Life on the 2nd floor, loot his skull which drops all the time. Then take 2-3 well balanced groups mid 50s+ and kill the 3 corrupt animals in WL, which are usually up and always drop the needed piece. You take these 4 items and turn them in to the Guardian in PoG and recieve the Nature's Defender , which has a 150pt DD proc. vs. all. A 2HS that hits for 150s commonly. I'm sure the dmg/Min output is very comparative to these other weapons mentioned, and the quest is absolutely do-able!

2-3 groups for corrupted? You only need one group...if that. 3 or 4 people could do them easy. hell the Faun and Panther are duoable.

Just so you know...the sword you speak of is Tunare diety only and HE/HFL only, which eliminates a lot of Paladins, yeah it is a kickass sword though, my friend has one and he is HE but I still kick his scrawny butt.

Gratz to Telumehtar for posting the wep dmg. There is just one small correction I would like to make : There are several 1-handers thast are better than the Halcyon Broad Sword (and MUCH easier to get aswell!) The Dark Metal Falcion (a 23x29 +7wis off second floor in Hate,) for instance, blows the Halcyon Broad Sword outta the water! The Massive Dragon Claw Shard (a 24x30 +3wis in of named dragon in WW I Believe,) is also a bit better. No offence Tel, was just making correction :)
Safe hunting all!

P.S. pallys, use 1hs! trust me!

Well i have never seen any Paladin with such a sword,i myself have been going to the planes every
month ,and my Guild goes up to isle 8 and kills the Hand of Veshan ,i have never got 1 quest done up there. Its true that silvery belts,dark spiroc feather and few single items drop but the important drops like a spinxian claw,large sky diamond,ivory sky diamond actually never drop....
the result of my 23 sky raids is not a single PoA quest for Paladin on the other hand i have seen
all other classes finish almost 3 of thier quests

Somehow these Pal PoA quests are not working and i am not joking

Where is that Sphinxian Claw found?
# Feb 15 2001 at 5:49 PM Rating: Default
Hello all,
Well the results of my first sky raid were very nice. I landed a belt of virtue (which btw has a 16% haste according to tests I ran and then confirmed with other sources), 1 piece of my quest haste belt, 1 piece for the "rumored" Erudite only sword, and most importantly I got the Dark Spiroc feather from one of the pegasus on the Isle with Overseer (isle 5 I think), and Ethereal Topaz from one of the bees on Isle 6.

So now I am one piece from getting a Zephyrwind.

My question to those who have found it where and what drops the sphinxian claw needed to finish the quest?

numerical damage comparison of this weapon against many comm
# Feb 02 2001 at 8:23 PM Rating: Good
With a bit of luck I'm planning on going to a sky raid within a week here. This will be my first raid to this plane and as such I'm overly excited about it cause of several reasons. Firstly I love exploring so thats obvious.. but secondly and perhaps most importantly I pray to get a shot at obtaining one of the finest paladin weapons in all Norrath.

First let me state I'm an Erudite paladin with my shield of the stalwart seas. As such I'm biased into using 1h weapons. However the following statistics have been obtained using Copelands Weapons Analyzer (a program that figures dmg ratios and dmg per minute that has been very heavily developed by the number crunchers who parse their logs).

I have set the stats of the paladin using the following weapons at 120 STR (a number I figure any paladin at 45th or higher can obtain) and am showing a spectrum of dmg/minute values over 15 levels at 5 level intervals.. i.e. 45,50,55,60.

Wurmslayer (common weapon as reference)
45th = 510 50th = 541 55th = 592 60th = 626

Sword of Morning (common kunark upgrade to WS)
45th = 530 50th = 574 55th = 639 60th = 681

Halcyon Broadsword (THE ultimate 1h pally weapon)
45th = 609 50th = 656 55th = 729 60th = 776

Rod of Faith (The best pally 1hb I could find)
45th = 598 50th = 636 55th = 699 60th = 740

Zephyrwind (Second only to the HB by single digit difference in dmg/minute ratios)
45th = 611 50th = 656 55th = 727 60th = 773

Keep in mind these numbers do not include the additional dmg from bashing which while minimal has some importance when comparing to the 2handers which I will post their dmg/min ratios next

Nathsar (common 2h weapon used by many)
45th = 560 50th = 618 55th = 718 60th = 778

Arbitor's Combine (a highly sought after upgrade)
45th = 624 50th = 666 55th = 746 60th = 796

*note the next are SUPPOSED to be the best weapons for paladins so it only makes sense they blow all other away however its also a pain in the **** to get these*

Fiery Avenger
45th = 694 50th = 735 55th = 817 60th = 869

Fiery Defender
45th = 785 50th = 831 55th = 922 60th = 980
(these values are without the added bash damage either)

So yeah its obvious the 2h weapons do a bit more damage (lots more if you can do the epic but are most pallies going to complete those?)

However there are some issues with 2h that one handers clearly do better.. firstly is taunt. a fast 1 hander will always taunt better than a slow 2 hander.. even when missing. I.e. I've seen rangers quad attack miss and taunt a creature onto them without ever touching the taunt key. Swing rate affects taunt.

Secondly the use of 2 handers prevents using shields. And in this game AC is King so are you REALLY sure you want to give up another source of AC?

Lastly the ability to bash while not a major damage factor becomes critical in Kunark and Velious against casters. Without the ability to bash how many more trains would be created cause of a caster mob gating away or how many times have you saved yourself or another from a chain casting mob by totally interupting their fast cast cycle with a well placed bash.

Lastly its very obvious that Verant's "Vision"TM is that paladins are NOT damage dealers. We are tanks. As a paladin I base the success of my position not on how much damage I did but how long I kept the mob focused on me and off my wizards, rangers, monks, rogues cause for every second they are not being attacked and stunned they are doing more damage than I could ever hope to.

Anyhow the point of this whole mess is to show very blatantly that 1 handers are not the "sucky" weapons of paladins and if played correctly 1 hand weapons are probably the boon of paladins.

P.S. I'll let you know if I complete the Zephyrwind quest and post the details I learn from my run through it.

In very few encounters does 40-90 more AC matter over alot more dammage per min. With all 3 weapons i have i do an average of 300-500 a round... more if DM or IoN procs... I have done over 1k dammage a round a couple times without holyforge. Hit for like 240-250 twice and IoN procced both times... (undead)

If im doing 300-500 dammage a round most of the time and up to or over 1k on undead sometimes, but you have say 80 more AC and do like 150-200 a round on average at a guess about 50% faster... Soloing id live longer, in a group id preserve mana more couse the mob would be dead faster.

Not saying dont use 1h weapons and shields... its a good combo, but its not necicarily the best combo. AC from a shield is important, but when post epic 2hers can do dammage twice as fast its your job as a paladin to do the dammage... your NOT just there to bash and stun... your there to make the mob dead as fast as possible, especially if it casts Ice commet :P

Smart man you are. Smart man.
The Paladin is not th damage dealing class. We aren't even really a damage taking class. We are, like it or not, caster interrupters. That is the one thing we excell in. Sure, we can deal and take some damage, but who really does it better? Wizards with their stun line of spells? No. They have much more powerful spells at levels where casters are a huge problem. Clerics with their stun line? I don't know about you, but I'd very much rather my cleric sit and stare at the HP bars of myself and my group members. Who does that really leave? Ahh, yes, the Chanter. Good, but once again, not their job. The Warrior. While s/he may be able to bash or kick, it isn't nearly as effective as our bash skill or the good old fashioned stun spell. Rangers? No. Enough said. Shadowknights can bash, but if bash missed, do they have a backup stun spell handy? A Paladins job as a tank, is to stun. Plain and simple. So, use your Sword of the Morning, your Ghoulbane, whatever 1-handed slashing or blunt weapon it is you have, and love it to death. Stun 'em to death. Only 2-handed weapon I will ever use, is the Fiery Defender...unless the Fiery Avenger is bashable, whereas, I will not lie, I honestly have no clue. So, please, Pallies, drop those 2-handed weapons and do your job the way it was meant to be done. If not, remember what myself and Telumehtar said when that Mob with Complete Heal gets it off twice and drops your group because you didn't have enough stun power going on your side.

Fa and FD are both Bashable 2handers. I will always use my FD. Plus at 53 you can easily chain stun with the 3 stuns we have. And another with your DW bracer.

Just wanted to post a "WTG and thanks" to Telumehtar for the great information on the weapons and their damages. Also, I think you are right on your analysis of a paladins job in a full group. I personally can't stand when we have a paladin who either doesn't know how or doesn't care to stun...and then the mob we are fighting heals or gates. At that point, I usually curse and mem my Fury of Air spell, to try and interuppt the next one, but it shouldn't be a druid trying to interrupt a mob. Wish ya were on Rodcet...lol =)

where I agree with all of you that a Pallies job is to stun and interupt. I personally can't chain stun a mob because I will pull massive agro. Now I know you guys are gonna say well you are a tank you are supposed to pull agro but no I am a back up tank and a mana sponge when I do tank. A warrior is the tank in a full group. So that is why most Pallies will wait until they see...."such anc such begins to cast a spell". Sometimes the spells get resisted or hey we are a fraction of a second to late.

This is one of the rarest quests in Air, imho.
The Feather drops off Isle 5, off the Spirocs.
The Topaz is off Isle 4, I think...could be wrong.
The Claw is a rare drop off the Sister of the Spires on Isle 7.

Congrats to Galadedrid on The Nameless server to be the 1st Paladin on the server to wield this blade!

and I was the third.
1st to actually speak up and help paladins w/ this quest was me as well.

Feather is from the spirocs that's true.
Topaz is off the bee's not isle 4.
Onlything for paladins on isle four is FA quest finish ;) and Symbol of Marr drops, and sometimes haste(drop) belt there too.
Claw is rare off sister of spires, she spawns and you will see her weilding it.

We paladins need to petition verant and make the proc Dismiss Undead that would actually be helpful instead of doing dd on mob pets like they ever do anything. Yeah this swords is hard as balls to get but hey it looks kool and can go great w/ a shield of the immaculate when you need to bash caster skulls in. Plus i think paladins look stupid as hell runing around w/ big *** hammers and sticks.
RE: My 2cp

Actually I want this sword for Hole Raids. There are lots of summoned mobs there and it would be nice to have.

I like the proc because we paladin's dont have any dismiss summoned type spells, whereas int casters, clerics, druids, and rangers all get them. The sword rocks in general, but there are several situations where I would want to use it for the Proc alone. Another example is in burning woods the wasps are summoned.

It's like the ghoulsbane, it has it's place and time to use. You gotta have a stable of armor/weapons and choose them wisely per the situation. =)

I confess, I'm left scratching my head by the messages here. Though it's raw damage barely different from a Halcyon broadsword after taking into consideration that your damage bonus will be striking with delay 26 instead of 25, it is a smidge better, and it does have a useful stat. The proc is rarely useful, but so what?

At this level, where most of your equipment is the best you can get and you've spent days agonizing over how to niggle here and there to statistically maximize your efficiency, the game is all about small marginal improvements. This weapon is not crushingly more powerful than its alternative, but halcyons aren't short camps either, and so what? You don't carefully plan to get a weapon like this from scratch - if you do, you've got serious priority problems, or are too low level to be worrying about it anyway. Go to the PoS with your guild, enjoy yourself, and see if the parts start dropping into your lap. Eventually one guild paladin will have two of them, and then it's just a matter of hoping to complete it on the next few raids.

There are more damaging two handers, but the choice between one- and two-hander is a personal one, and often situation-dependent. I'm disinclined to give up the benefit of a Sarnak Battle Shield or a Shield of the Stalwart Seas for a two hander in most cases. No matter what I do, I cannot be a serious damage dealer compared to some of my other tank friends anyway. I don't have a nice crushing paladin two hander like a rod of mourning. And there are precious few cases where I'd dump a battle shield for an Arbitor's Combine Greatsword.

The argument that there are better Kunark drops for one handers than this weapon is spurious. For paladins, there simply aren't.

(Well, perhaps there are some undiscovered VP ones, or what have you, but obviously this sword is easier to get those.)

In most cases if you can achieve this sword, you probably have an epic also. Personally when im tanking, i use a shield when im taking hits, and when there is a better tank i tend to use my FA... im not even in an uber guild and I will have my FD this week.

But, there are other 1hers that are just as good as this, halycon, darkmetal falchion, and the other 1hs sword from PoA... basically it just becomes situational.

PoA is just being lucky that a bunch of quest items drop, in the ammount of time you spend on an island, so if you actually get a quest done its awesome.

Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

This weopons ratio is way the hell better then a Green Jade Axe that you mention , and a Granite Face Grinder is a totally different type of weopon, and what non VP 1 handers are you talking about when you say much better then this at Kunark zone lines , the best Shadowknights get as far as 1 handers is 19 and 24 with no stats and , thats just 2 less delay , and no better campable 1 handers for paladins ,i dont care how tough it is to get , i dont know of a single 1 hander that is any better from anywhere , and 2 handers are a different story since they have a different purpose

a Green Jade is far better.

your looking at the raw dam/delay. At these levels players are very close to their Haste cap from items and if not they get buffed the rest of the way. In simplier terms a Max speed Green Jade will EASILY outdamage this at its maxspeed.

The people at the levels to obtain this are not going to be any closer to the haste cap than anyone else at a lower level with 'items'. You only get haste from one item at a time, they don't stack. The only way to get to the haste cap is with one item AND one spell/song, that's it, period, no other way. You can have your CoF and a RBG on and you will be no more hasted than you would be with just one of those items on. Sorry to burst your bubble.

The whole point of the these quests is to say "Look what I got...do you wanna know how I got it?" a.k.a. bragging rights. I think Verant should change the name of the game to EverFarm cause it seems that people care more about what level they are and how fast then can get it or how much plat they have then to spend time questing for stuff because it takes too much time from there leveling and farming. I mean think of the FA, it seems alot of Paladins where willing to kill Naggy and Vox dozens of time to get the books for then go kill a level 53 necro that is as hard as a dragon?...I dunno why do people bother with it! But I think I know why they do. Because it makes the newbies go "oooo and ahhhh" it's kinda like a respect thing. Does anyone know what I'm talking about here?

Miragul isn't as hard as a dragon. He was killed with just under two groups that were 54+
You have the right lvls and classes, you can kill him with the 9 or so we had.

There is a certain bit of truth to the farming / levelling arguement. A BIG part of EQ is the "fashion-show" aspect. I can't count how many times I've considered wearing a slightly inferior piece of armor because of it's appearance, or how many times I wished I could fight without my "bucket" helm. However, to say that people do these quests exclusively for bragging rights is a bit unfair I think.

Personaly, my Paladin was my first character. I retired her for a very long time at level 15 because those levels are notoriously hard for Paladins and I had little idea what I was doing in EQ anyway. However, since I she came out of retirement 6-months ago I have completely fallen in love with this class and taken her to level 50 (and still counting) and gone on more Plane of Fear raids than I care to admit to outfit her in Valorium -- still no breastplate.

THAT is the main point of my arguement. People keep with their character for months, do these long and painful quests/raids/camps and outfit them with great gear because they LOVE playing their class / character.

1. They like playing their character so much that they want to make that character distinctive AND effective with their armor and weapons. If that wasn't part of the game, there only be one race, one face, one gender per class and every piece of armor would look exactly the same.

2. Bragging rights of course. I love it when people say "Nice Sword" or "Your sword is on fire" even in high-level dungeons like Karnor's.

3. Most importantly... these quests give you a GOAL. If everyone had the ultimate weapon / armor by level 30, why would anyone bother progressing beyond that point?

OK, back to the original subject of this post:

How many, and what levels of people do you need to take out these mobs?
I know Plane of Sky is a hard nut to crack and the islands get progressively harder as you go further along. Island 7 is as far as I know anyone has cleared on my server (Prexus).

Why do I only count 4 quests for paladins and 6 or 7 quests for the other classes? Aren't the other discovered yet?
thats a shame is right

to me its sad that most quest items are crap compared to items that drop without any questing at all...EQ seems to discourage questing by making quest items such as FA (verry verry good but not worth the effort) and Zephyrwind weaker than a lot of campable items that take hours or sometimes days to get instead of weeks and weeks or even months of questing to get an item that when compared to the camped itmes is only slightly better or not even as good as the camped items that take a fraction of the time and effort to get. so i think they need to make the quest items better or people will just stop questing all together...

Hehehe you're gonna be dissapointed if you ever get into sky expecting to put the quest into Everquest.. that's just funny.

The plane of sky was, and I quote, "not meant to be completed before Kunark" - Aradune. It is a level 55+ zone, it is meant to be an EXPANSION level zone. No one, I repeat no one, made it to the sister of spire island pre-expansion. Therefore, this item DOES in fact need to be compared with Kunark weapons. I should repeat here, plane of sky is a level 55+ zone.. and last I checked, you can't get above level 50 without the expansion.

As far as your quest argument.. you really fail to understand how the plane of sky "quests" work. It is NOT a "hail thee good sir, could thou do me a [favor]?" type "quest" It's a grocery list of items that you loot off the creatures in sky plane. Each "quest" involves running through sky plane over and over and over until you get the right pieces for each item. There's no mystery, no STORY, no ROLEPLAYING, nothing here resembling a "quest" as you put it in your flame. It's basically an elaborate method of rewarding only the people who put a LOT of time into doing the zone.

The point was, the people who are actually capable of obtaining this item, woulden't want it. I'm sorry, but you can't hail a bunch of npc's and give them milk and cookies for this item.. you have to take 30 of your best level 55+ friends up and down sky plane over and over and over and over and over... in other words, it requires the kind of people that you just flamed, therefore I would you guess you aren't the type that would ever seen one. Sorry. If it makes you feel better, there are better weapons campable at the zonelines of your average kunark dungeon.

Gee sorry Hardolek if I feel that the effort I put into sky plane should grant me something I would actually equip. Zephyrwind is in my bank - since I'm actually one of the three people on the planet who own one, don't I have the right to complain? More so than someone who hasn't spent far too many days in that zone for no reward?

I repeat for Hardolek's benefit: By the time YOU can actually get one of these items, you will not want it. You will have something better that you likely spent a lot LESS effort getting. And that's a shame.

My counter-point is this: I'd rather have a good No Drop weapon than something as cliche and overworked as a Ghoulbane. Seeting as how I play on a PvP server, I think I'm justified in feeling that way.
I can dream, can't I!?!?

Kreugan, you fail to remember that the Plane of Sky was around before Kunark, hence the weapon was there before the expansion of LAG & LINK-DEATH arrived.
Players can choose you know, or listen to powergamers,like you, *****, **** and moan that the newest weapon doen't make them a demi-god or able to slay the two in-game gods in one blow, *****, *****, *****...play the game because you like it, not because you HAVE to conquer all aspects.

This weapon seems nice and I would like to complete the, dare I say, QUEST--egad, I'm actually thinking of doing a quest, in EverQUEST no less.

I guess I should get my head examined for wanting to do something OTHER than try to make lvl 50 in 12 hours!

Your opinion is your opinion, guess mine is mine as well. Someday I'll come across a post that doesn't boil my blood, too bad it wasn't today!
Dont forget....

PoS at this level as to which you quest for this thing you needed to be post 50. Hence this weapon was intended for Kunark players and with that being said Zephyrwind does infact blow in terms of risk/reward.

To date the best thing risk/reward wise from PoS is still the FA. Everything else is so-so to poor.

Please remember PoS was meant for post 50 really. We who complain bout these items have a right since we can easily get better in LGuk2 (sebellis)

This item is from the sister of spire, the second highest level of Sky. And let me tell you.. nobody who actually goes that high will actually want to use this weapon. There is no reason to use it over the green jade axe or granite face grinder unless you enjoy doing less damage (and paladins need all the help they can get in that regard)

A very disappointing weapon, given the useless proc and weak damage/delay (sk's get a better weapon in SEBILIS for christ's sake)

Let us not forget that we cannot bash w/out useing a 1hs weapon and a sheild (unless you are useing a FA or FD). If you really like to bash and don't wanna bother with the 2hs weapons then THIS is the weapon paladins should get. I'm mostly a 2hs person myself though.
nice

19/26 is very nice, pallies were getting screwed with all the sweet SK items in kunark. I this is just a little better than the Not blade (much easier to get) 18/26 15 dex 10 int. But pallies have always been ahead with weapons time for them to be behind =) I am waiting to see what the 1hs/1hb item for sks is outta PoS. I saw a crappy 20/39 1hs, but theres gotta be a kickass 1hs in PoS for sk's.
Aha
