Find Tacots Silentblade at location +3889, -2066 in the Southern Desert of Ro.

    You say, 'Hail, Tacots Silentblade'

Tacots Silentblade says 'Well met _____! Are you out here to help [aid the city of Freeport]?'

You say, 'I am here to aid the city of Freeport.'

Tacots Silentblade says 'I have been out in the desert for months now hunting the [great giants]. Personally I don't see the threat but the guards are always worried of the giants getting behind the walls and attacking.'

    You say, 'What great giants?'

Tacots Silentblade says 'There are great giants out there. They are very dangerous. I came out a while ago with a team to slay the giants so that they couldn't ever mount an attack on the city. The rest of the team has returned to Freeport to get supplies. I've decided to wait here until they return. Hey you look like you're brave and capable. Would you be interested in hunting down the [elite] giants or their [leaders] to help Freeport?'

You say, 'I would be interesting in hunting the elite'

You have been assigned the task 'Giants in the Desert'.

Tacots Silentblade says 'You want to hunt down the elite giants? You will find them along the north west wall and the south west wall. They are held up there together. You must be careful though because they are very dangerous and you will seldom find them alone.'

The task involves killing 15 Sand Giant Elites - which can be found in North and South Ro. Completing the task gives coin and faction.

Faction increases by 20 points each with:

    Citizens of Freeport
    The Freeport Militia
    Coalition of Tradesfolk
    Knights of Truth
    Priests of Marr
    Dismal Rage
    Steel Warriors

I took my level 46 warrior here for some cash, and figured I'd get the quest and get some bonus exp. However, I got the message saying I was not at the right level for this quest.

If you can't get this at level 49, and my 53 ranger, 62 druid and 63 enchanter can do it, the minimum level is at least 50. I don't remember exactly when my ranger started doing the quest, but he was 50 or 51.

btw, my ranger is now allied with Freeport. While he was still warmly, he hailed the person outside the East Freeport gates about the title, and received the option for a new suffix in his titles window. He is still doing these 2 quests, but he has not yet gotten a message upon completion that his faction could not get any better.

My druid is only kindly with Freeport, and my enchanter is still KOS, (helped to kill Lucan twice).

    North & South Sgiants
    # Mar 25 2007 at 4:24 PM Rating: Decent
Yes both north and south Sgiants count twards this quest. I started doing these on my lvl 69 cleric cause well i decided i wanted to be a evil high elf and kill freeport guards, and didnt spot till i helped a pally finnish his Sfire quest, After 5 runs on both leader and eliet SG with 2k in my pocket r, i checked my faction with FP guards and i am still kos. So for those looking to fix faction, these are gonna take a while, the nice thing is there are 3 faction quests in Sro/oasis, the two giant ones, and the gnome "clear the beach" So while waiting for the Giants to respawn, go down to the beach and clear caimen, and DW caimen.

I tried to get this Quest at 45,46,47,48, and 49 and it tells that I am not high enough level to get this quest. It didn't used to be that way. Did SOE ***** this up?

The quest is not given until you get to 50. It seems a waste to change it now. I could kill a few and get xp and faction. About half pop as green to me now so little xp with the faction boost.

20 Min Respawn time, 11 in South ro 5 in North Ro. Named are rare spawns and are in separate quest. Quest NPC gives 2 different trigger words.

I was cleaning up old quests I had accumulated and just finished this. I liked the faction hits so I went back to try to get it again. Instead I was given the Guardians of the Sand quest. As long as the faction is the same I don't mind.

The same person gives both quests and it looks to be the same words trigger the quest. Can't say if it is level based, I am 55 now and about 51 when I got this one, or you get one after the other completed. Would be interesting to find out.

Couple of my notes on this quest
    # Apr 15 2006 at 4:28 AM Rating: Default
There are 11 Sand Giant Elites in SRo. I didn't investigate the ones in NRo. At level 70, the giants were of coarse green and gave no xp. But, completing the quest gave 2% of an AA. The quest also rewards you with 12p5g. I was 7 boxing while doing it. One group of 6 and one single, all of them raided together. Everyone got credit for each kill, including the single who I left just sitting next to the taco man.

A level 11 toon showed up and just for grins, I added him into the raid. At level 11, he said he got 6 blue bubble of xp upon completion along with all the factions and 12.5pp. Theoretically, I could have added 11 groups of low level toons (or any level for that matter) and gotten them all the xp and plat with just my group killing the giants.

Being that there are 11 spawns in the camp and quest requires 15 kills makes it inevitable that the spawns will get out of sync and ya end up just sitting around waiting for spawns. Maybe it's quicker to run back and forth between NRo and SRo. I didn't notice the mobs in NRo counted as well until it was already late and i didn't want to bother doing more exploring. But it would probably work nice to start the quest, kill NRo mobs, move back to SRo, kill those, restart, rinse, repeat.

By the way, taco man is at the huts on the east side of the lake in what use to be the oasis (now north part of southern ro).

Like I said, I haven't scouted out where the spawns are in NRo, but it sounds like it might be handy to have a wizzy in the group just to port you back and forth to reduce all the running (even though the zones are adjacent to each other).
how many times till non KoS

    Task

Completed this in about 30 minutes, with by 51 ranger. Had Steadfast servent Veteran AA up, never dropped below about 90% health. Got XP too.

This is pretty good loot IMO given the loot from the Giants and the few moents it takes to hail the task giver.
