This is the fourth task in a series of five (the end result being your 68th level spell/tome). It begins with Kelliad in the Stoneroot Falls at location +705, -1830 (northeastern part of the zone).

You say, 'Hail, Kelliad'

Kelliad says 'The potion! It worked! Not bad for an old rogue don't ya say _____? Unfortunately I'll only have enough to suspend ye party with it once, so make haste. Once you find yourself behind the city walls you will need to [search the area] for Ilsuras.'

You say, 'Search the area?'

Kelliad says 'You've done some solid work up to this point _____. I feel that I can trust you enough to talk about him. Ilsuras is a good friend of mine. We joined the Shiliskin Scouts at the same time and had worked together on the same organization. Draygun, the emperor of Illsalin organized our battalion and sent us out to crush an [enemy] that we didn't know anything about.'

You say, 'What enemy?'

You have been assigned the task 'The Search For Ilsuras'.

You must breach the walls of Xill and search for Ilsuras.

  1. Seek out Meldrek to gain information about the drachnid city 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Head south along the shore where you'll find Meldrek at +210, -1845.

    You say, 'Hail, Meldrek'

Meldrek says 'Kelliad told me to be expecting you, _____. We must make haste -- quickly! Do not be alarmed at your appearance once you have entered Xill -- your true form will merely be suspended for a matter of time. You must breach the walls of Xill and find Ilsuras. Move past the front gates and locate the entrance to the inner chambers within the city.'

Your task 'The Search For Ilsuras' has been updated.
The direction to the entry to your instanced zone(s) have been marked on your compass.

  2. Locate the entrance to the City of Xill 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Remember where you killed The Chamber Guardian in the previous task? That door is the entrance (-1000, 15, 75).

  3. Seek out Overseer Renok and follow him 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

You'll see Overseer Renok near the zone-in. He will tell you to follow him (you're non-KOS to the zone right now).

Overseer Renok says 'Halt, trooper. Your shift doesn't begin for some time now, where is it that you think you're heading?'

Overseer Renok says 'As memory serves, Commander Hithrav has been expecting you. Follow me.'

He'll start walking away regardless of whether or not you follow him. Once he reaches Commander Hithrav's chamber, this step updates and your disguise drops (making you KOS to everything).

To get to them: Follow the path to the north, to the first "T" intersection, go left (west), follow that path until you see a room on the left (south), go in there and there's another room to the right (west), Commander Hithrav and Overseer Renok are standing right on top of each other.

  4. Kill Commander Hithrav and the Overseer 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

Commander Hithrav says 'Foolish interloper! I shall dine upon you!'

Overseer Renok says 'I shall wear your skin as a prize!'

Hithrav hits for a max ~1,200. Renok is on par with trash as far as difficulty is concerned. They are not overly difficult, however you may wind up with drachnid adds from the other room so be prepared to deal with a few mobs at once.

    You have slain Commander Hithrav!
Commander Hithrav's corpse explodes into a green mist of viscous fluids and body parts.

    You have slain Overseer Renok!
Overseer Renok's corpse releases its last foul breath before settling to the earth.

  5. Search for Ilsuras 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

You'll have to unlock two doors to get to Ilsuras. The first door is unlocked by clicking on a stone monolith in the underwater room. Directions from the Commander's room:

    - Head back out of the room into the corridor and turn left (west).
    - You'll notice that you can either go all the way around the arc, west turning north and turning back east, or you can "shortcut" through the center. Be advised that there are a bunch of mobs in that little shortcut.
    - If you want to go the safe (long) way, follow the path east and you'll then see a locked door on the left (north) and the path continues straight (east).
    - Continue clearing straight until all mobs in the room are dead. Keep in mind that there is quite a bit of trash in here, and the room is entirely underwater.
    - There is a monolith in the room (it is labelled on some maps).
    - Click on it to unlock the previously mentioned door. BEWARE! 3-4 drachnids will spawn and aggro you as soon as the monolith is clicked. You'll see the emote...

A faint whisper in the distance catches your ear as a sudden sense of urgency washes over you..

A faint humming from the monolith draws you closer.

    - Head through the door to find another intersection.
    - You can either continue straight (north) or turn right (east).
    - Keep going straight until you come to a big gate (it looks like a jail area). Clear everything there.
    - In one of the "cells" is what looks like an open chest. Click on this to get the emote "You feel an unexpected gust of wind fill the tunnel."
    - From there, turn around and head back south, then go left (east) at the intersection.
    - Clear east to the next intersection and turn right (south). Ilsuras will be in that room.

In the room are Ilsuras, Prince Drillien and two drachnid protectors. As you step into the room...

Your task 'The Search For Ilsuras' has been updated.

Prince Drillien says 'Ilsuras, Ilsuras.. You weak, pathetic old fool. I lack the patience to deal with you any longer.'
Ilsuras's corpse falls on its back, eyes wide open.
    Ilsuras died.

Prince Drillien says 'And who do we have here? Ah yes, the small group of rebels that intend to walk into our home and throw the proverbial wrench into my unimaginably powerful Drachnid army?'

Prince Drillien says 'You have been blinded by the quick work you made of Commander Hithrav -- Haha! Commander indeed. He was nothing but a pawn set in place to draw out potential threats such as yourselves.'

Prince Drillien says 'Iknar and Vrek will be more than happy to escort you to your burial sites, unless that is, you choose to flee like a coward. I have some pressing matters to attend to, so if you will excuse me.'

Protector Vrek hisses as he attacks, bloodlust in his eyes.
Protector Iknar races toward you, glistening venom dripping from his fangs.

  6. Slay Protector Iknar 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

  7. Slay Protector Vrek 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

The two protectors don't seem much more difficult than your typical trash mob. They are both mezzable.

    You have slain Protector Iknar!
Protector Iknar's corpse stumbles backward before crumpling into a heap of fluids and limbs.

    You have slain Protector Vrek!
Protector Vrek's corpse collapses as its torso splits from its abdomen.

  8. Take Ilsuras' dagger from Prince Drillien's chest 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

Upon the protectors' deaths, "a musty chest" spawns. It contains a task item and one loot item.

  9. Search for a way to activate Drillien's hidden teleport ring 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

Head back to the three way intersection between the Prince's room, Ilsuras' room and the path back out. Face to the south, and you'll notice three crystal balls on the wall. If you click the middle crystal ball, the teleportation ring will activate.

  10. Quickly gather within the teleportation stones to exit Xill without a trace 0/1 (Chambers of Xill)

Invis yourself and quickly step into the middle of the portal that appears behind you.

Your task 'The Search For Ilsuras' has been updated.

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
    You have entered Stoneroot Falls.

  11. Deliver 1 Ilsuras' Dagger of Contempt to Kelliad 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Kelliad will not be pleased to hear about the death of his elder friend, Ilsuras -- but perhaps a sense of closure in a time of need will empower him with the rage to finish the Drachnid army once and for all.

Among possible loot from "a musty chest":
Gilded Plate Bracer
Glossy Plate Gloves
Serpentscale Gloves
Supple Feederskin Boots
Taut Chain Chestplate

Among possible trash drops:
Copper Glow-in-the-Dark Compass Ring
Earring of Dimutiveness
Gold Glow-in-the-Dark Compass Ring (reported from Commander Hithrav, but may be a zonewide random)

Caster Reward:
Deathshed Priest Mantle

Melee Reward:
Gilded Shoulderpads

Completion of this task leads into the final task in the series, "The Rage of Kelliad".

Hey was just wondering if this thing still drops ? im lvl 110 and running thru this Task " Search for Illsuras" like a dozen times already .. am i doing something wrong .. Id like to know if it still drops before i commit to doing these for 50+ times ..

a few things that baffle me :

1 . im lvl 110 so all the mobs are grey .. does that mean rare items wont drop due to my lvl and con of the mob .. and no one in my group is within their lvl range all above 100 ..

2 .. do I need to shroud down .. nothin in above posts or posts under the actual quest name mention anything about shrouding ..

3.. I never had to do the progression .. I.E. Dodh missions from Kelliad 1-5 .. i just hailed him said the key phrase and the quest select window popped up with all 5 quests avail .. so ive just been selecting #4 " search for Illsuras" .. my toon is a Heroic not sure if that matters also I just figured that sense the expansion is so old that they opened up progression and you didnt need to run thru all 4 or 5 quests anymore ?

any helpful feedback would be appreciated . running thru this task is easy but tedious .. and I would just like to know if the ring will still drop being my current lvl and stuff .. thanks

This is a double post .. posted on the Rings page also .
UPDATE:
Its been 2 days sense ive started this and ive done this task around 25 - 30 times and still no ring .. does this ring still drop .. did the dev's nerf on how rare items drop do the mobs have to con at least green to me for a rare to drop ? inquiring minds want to know.. will keep at it .. and im not actually completing the task im just clearing out all the spiders up till Illsuras's room and to the exit and then dropping and getting quest again and again and again.. :P

2019 Ragefire TLP DoDH era:

TLDR: Shrink clicky dropped on the 23rd f'ing clear

Solo cleared the zone via root rot. Lvl 70 raid geared full AA shaman with all the focuses and clickies (most notably root pants and slow stick), 35+ heroic stats, and plenty of AC-heavy gear and augs.

It took three hours to kill everything while stopping to smell the roses. Everything except one easy named was rootable; nothing summoned; no dots were resisted after Malosinia & Putrid Decay landed.

Virulent Paralysis root never broke when preceded by Putrid Decay; Greater Immobilize root broke a couple dozen times even with Malosinia.

Banked almost 10 AA with a lesson burn.

Mostly two pulls, some singles, a handful of 3 to 6 pulls that got my heart going. No repops.

I will return until the rare shrink clickie drops. I might even return afterwards, since it's a root rotter's paradise and I wonder how much the loot rights for that shrink clickie would go for :)

Edit: 15 clears later, and I've just about had enough. No shrink clickie. Plenty of vendor trash and some stuff that sold decently on bazaar. Double edit: It dropped on the 23rd clear.

Danger mobs: Some mobs can path weirdly through walls in this instance. Specifically,

- The jail mob: The last mob in the jail, in a cell opposite from where you enter the jail. You want to kill this guy right where he is. Don't pull him, don't give him any reason to move whatsoever. Walk right up to him, and belly kill. This is because he can and will path through walls and bring whole sections of the dungeon to you like 60 seconds later.

- The underwater stone mobs: In the big underwater room where you have to clear to reach the stone and touch it, that stone summons two mobs. They can bring like 6 more mobs with them sometimes due to crazy pathing. I find it best to click the stone and immediately rush to the exit. That seems to cause the least weird pathing.

- Don't engage mobs while up on a wall: Sometimes if you fight mobs while perched on a wall, they think you're no longer in the room with them, and go search for you elsewhere, training the entire dungeon to you eventually. So I would advise to not fight mobs while you're way up high on a wall. Stick to the center of corridors.

The shrink ear dropped today on my first try for it. I cleared the entire zone except for the entrance, so I headed back there to kill them. I found the zone to be repopping, so I started killing the repops. Found the ear on the 4th repopped spider. Glad I didn't give up and finish the quest and take the portal out.

Clicking on the monolith opens the first door in the southern room. you go in that room and click on a false door which in turn opens the door to the east up near the jail cell.

Step 5:

The big gate is actually a large set of jail cells. Behind one of those jail cells is a treasure chest (Loc is pos 737, neg1234). Click on that for the emote.

Step 7:

Both the Protectors are mezzable.. I mezzed both on inc oming today with no issues.

Also, if you are in any illusion form when you zone in then you will not be in the required drachnid form so make sure to drop any illusion. If you forget you can drop illusion and zone out and back in and it will put you back into drachnid form.

The teleportation ring is on the little bit of land right behind where you clicked the crystal to "spawn" it. We were all inside, and clicked it to activate it.

The reason you invis first is because it ports you outside , where you zoned in , and Drillinak the slayer or whatever his name is lives there and will eat you.

I was able to click on the monolith with an eye of zomm. It did weird agro things though. The mobs did pop and I faded them off. They still came and we had 5 total. Still better than clearing to the monolith.

Was also able to click on the chest in the jail but it had no effect. Had to fight up.

Neither protector were the levels listed here. Both were blue to level 70 Bard. So was the prince.

Quest above asks:

Hard rewards
Melee/hybrid: ????
Caster/priest: ????

There is no Hard in the 68 series.

Gilded Shoulderpads is the melee reward on cursor.

as of 5/14/06 we followed the Overseer to commander with invis up and nothing jumped us till I dropped invis. So have everyone move up, engage Commander and mez the Overseer. *EDIT* We were all spider illusioned at the start and invis worked fine with that. *EDIT*

When you get to the jail gotta jump through the bars and lcik the chest inside the second Jail cell. Piece of cake.

Also a taut chain chestplate dropped and isnt on the loot table.

68.4 before 68.3?
# Mar 14 2006 at 4:52 AM Rating: Decent
Hi!

I have read that the spell missions can be done in any order. My wife and I have 6 boxed 68.1 and 68.2. We tried 68.3 yesterday but it got late so we never got to try the boss mob there. We would like to try the 68.4 before finishing the 68.3, but in the guide for 68.4 it says: "When you zone into the instance, you will notice that you are a drachnid. This is the disguise you built from the last task"

So, how can we do 68.4 when we havent finished 68.3 and 68.4 uses something from 68.3?

And while i am posting here, can my wife and I 6 box the boss mob in 68.3 with these toons: 70 War, 13K Hp, 2150AC, Qvic/Dod/Rss gear, 275AA, 70 Shm, 70 Dru, 70 Clr, 70 Mag, 70 Enc. Toons have average 175 AA's, 6,5K mana buffed. We did the boss in 68.2 and had around 35% mana left and did not use Veteran manafillup. From what i have read most wipe at 10% when he hits for 3k+, im not sure we can keep up with heals, or if we have mana left, but we gonna try. Is he up in the same tower as the boss in 68.2?

Thanks for all help.

68.4 before 68.3?
# Aug 12 2006 at 10:46 PM Rating: Default
6 boxed with War 14k 2800 ac buffed. Boss is gimp till around 40 percent health. Save all your mana and DPS for around 20 percent.
From 100 to 40 percent health cleric can get away with sporadic CHs. Save clerics mana for last 20 percent. I have druid and cleric so druid and cleric hit resplendant cure in cycles. I didnt waste mana on healing group I just used SOTG(druid group HOT) and Celestial regeneration at 75 percent and then again at 40 percent.
When the room shakes the after boss hits around 20 percent pop furious then immediatlely go defensive when furious is down. I sugest furious for the DPS of it. As every once of DPS after 20 is critical. Slow was never ever ever resisted. I saw lots of posts saying he was very resistant, I did not find this to be the case. Tash and malo is a wonderfull thing.
As far as placement I fought the mob right where he spawned. I tried hiding the cleric around several corners to avoid the ae to no avail in the end i brought the entire crew up on the ramp with War. ther was no rampage so there is no issue with doing this. Oddly the AE would draw all toons closer into the named anyway. So even if you try to range fight you get pulled in anyway.
SOOOOOOO about the last 20 percentish; WATCH OUT FOR ENRAGE. keep the mob turned so the pets dont eat rage. any melee that are in there will need to attack off. DONT waste mana healling your DPS melee or pets. Focus on keeping the tank up only. BURN the named with all your swarm pets right AFTER rage is over. remember to keep that named turned so it doesnt riptose those swarm pets to death. nuke nuke nuke. Fire landed well ice landed well and chanters chroma strike landed as well.
In summary. first 60 percent may lul you into not paying attention. stay focused and disiplined conserve your mana as much as you can healers as you will be spamming quick heals like a little newb from 20 percent on. Dont go heavy DPS till around 60 percent. Save the good DPS nukes for after the last 20 percent. The last 20 percent mob hits HARD. 2 quick healers with 9k mana each went OOM.
Swarm pets after rage is over. The last 10 percent are the hardest. There is no change in the mobs hit rate but this last 10 percent is the longest 10 percent i remember fighting due to the drama of it all.
If you tank eats rage you are all dead. So dont do that. Tanks that eat rage make the baby jesus cry :(

RE: 68.4 before 68.3?
# Mar 14 2006 at 9:04 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, you should be able to beat the boss in 68.3. Tank should save defensive for about 50%, then hit fortitude at 10%. Everyone has to burn the mob down SUPER hard from 15% or so. High burst DPS for that last 10% is absolutely vital.

My wife and I beat 68.3 with us 5-boxing a war, wiz, ench, cler, dru. Enchanter used Edict of Command to charm a drachnid for extra dps. Your mage should add some good dps for you. At 10%, our wizard hit mana burn (for 12k dmg), which helped a great deal, and everyone else nuked hard. All the toons were OOM at the end or close to it. Look at what short-term burst DPS abilities your toons have (except the tank, that toon must hit fortitude and turn off attack at 10%). Use ALL of those at 10% and get him to zero before fortitude wears off (12 seconds).

Be sure you all have FoE, fight in the bottom right corner below the ramp, keep the spider positioned so his AE blows people into the corner of the ramp/wall (not into the field) and all should be cool.

As for doing these out of order, I believe the issue you are having is that Kelliad will not give the mission requester 68.4 unless that toon has also completed 68.1-3. So, you can do them out of order, but only if you have someone available who has done them in order to request the mission. You can, of course, do 69.1 or 70.1 without having completed any of the 68 series. Hope that clarifies.

Best of luck. Might take a few tries, but you'll get it.

-Catamander

p.s.: Oh yes, three more things:
1. He spawns at the top of the ramp that leads to what would be the zone in to City of Xill. We liked to fight him in the corner below the ramp on the right side (corner where the ramp meets the wall).
2. You don't have to do all the kill and collects to spawn him. There is an emote and rumble when he spawns and a new task mision appears, but it seems from our experience that the only thing you have to do to spawn him is finish the "collect 4 silks" part of the mission. Worked for us anyway. Save yourself a ton of trouble, lev and invis over the wall to the safe spot inside the gates, collect your silks til he spawns, then go and give him a try. If you wipe, you've wasted less time. If you succeed, then you can easily finish off the rest of the kill and collect parts of the mission after he is dead.
3. Get those resists up! We used Infusion Vet AA on all 5 toons for this fight and it helped a good deal. Still eat the KB/Snare AE but resisted the other easily at 500+ to all resists.

As for doing these out of order, I believe the issue you are having is that Kelliad will not give the mission requester 68.4 unless that toon has also completed 68.1-3. So, you can do them out of order, but only if you have someone available who has done them in order to request the mission.

Did this mission the other night and is the first 68 mission I've done...not sure if this was pointed out somewhere else BUT...the people who have not completed 68.3 (or up to 68.3, not sure which) will not get the illusion: spider when they zone into the city, so we were forced to fight our way in...just an FYI.

Doing this mission atm. Only 1 in the group had done 68.3, but all of us zoned in as spiders. Taut chain breastplate dropped, needs to be added to loot list.

Thanks Catamander. A very nice informative post indeed. We are going to try it this weekend.
