This has since been folded into the "Basic Training" quest for newbies.

This task begins with Vahlara in the Mines of Gloomingdeep.

You say, 'Hail, Vahlara'

Vahlara says 'I'm glad you managed to escape the slave warrens in one piece. There are many [others] who were not as lucky. I have something that might save you from the same fate. Take this kobold charm. It will increase in power as you talk to the rest of the members of the revolt. May it bring you good luck, ______.'

You receive a Kobold Skull Charm.

You say, 'What others?'

Vahlara says 'These few here. They were injured when the revolt broke out. I'm trying to help, but we have a short supply of [bandages], and more wounded keep coming. I fear many will not survive the hour.'

You say, 'What bandages?'

Vahlara says 'I was a skilled tailor before I was enslaved, so I'm able to weave spider silk into makeshift gauzes and dressings. But now even the spiderling silk is running scarce. If you can find three pieces of spiderling silk, bring them to me unstacked, and I'll give you some armor I've crafted from burlap. Burlap's no good for bandages anyway.'

Hand in one piece of Gloomingdeep Silk to receive a random piece of stitched burlap armor.

This is an excellent quest to do at low levels to build up some money for later on.

I know that if you continue to turn in the stack of 5 silk, it says it awards group experience. It seems to be such a minute amount or maybe it just says it, it is worth getting any amount of exp vs destroying and getting nothing.

The same with the mushroom and the ore turn ins.

this isn't a quest anymore, it's just part of the basic training quest. there is no quest called "gloomingdeep silk collecting."

This quest (and Vahlara as the quest giver) does not give the Kobold Skull Charm any longer. The Charm is received by completing the 'Basic Training' quest only, and is received from Arias, the Revolt Leader. Instead, she gives a piece of Gloomingdeep Kobold armor for your class. I received Gloomingdeep Kobold Chain Sleeves as a Rogue. The quest text has changed to reflect this. See below:
-----------
You say, 'Hail, Vahlara'

Vahlara says 'I'm glad you managed to escape the slave warrens in one piece. There are many [others] who were not as lucky. Here, take this armor we found on a kobold. It's not much but it should keep you safe.'

You say, 'What others?'

Your task 'Basic Training' has been updated.

Vahlara says 'We have many wounded and they need bandages. If you can find any gloomingdeep silk, bring it to me and I can make more bandages. I'll reward you with whatever burlap armor pieces I can find.'
----------

She still accepts the silk for Burlap armor pieces...

When first hailing Vahlara -- in response to Aria's quest "Basic Training" she says:

"I'm glad you managed to escape the slave warrens in one piece. There are many [others] who were not as lucky. Here, take this burlap armor. It's not much but it should keep you safe."

She hands you a Stitched Burlap Sleeves.

Once the sleeves are equipped (and they must be equipped), you are instructed to follow her statement with a remark.

You say, "What others?"

She responds with:
"We have many wounded and they need bandages. If you can find any gloomingdeep silk, bring it to me and I can make more bandages. I'll reward you with whatever burlap armor pieces I can find."

In the spider caves you will find gloomingdeep silk dropped along with other items. Return the gloomingdeep silk to Vahlara for random pieces of burlap armor.

It is the Kobold Skull Charm

http://www.joelperryproductions.com/images/eq/images/koboldskull.jpg

stats:
Magic Item, Lore Item, No Trade
Slot:charm
Str:+5 Sta:+5 Wis:+5 Int:+5 HP:+10 Mana:+10
WT:0.1 Size:Tiny

Slot 1 Type 7, empty

FYI - I had to hand in 3 pieces to get 1 armor the first time (like the dwarf turn in quest for armor); however I could then turn in just one to get 1
