Or perhaps you are interested in learning our craft? I have an opportunity for one who fits either of these categories. I have need of help and by helping me you will learn something of what I know, if you are [interested] in such things.'' You say, 'interested' Glirina Morningbloom says, 'There are always many simple but time-consuming jobs to do aboard the Queen of Thorns. I have more important research to attend to. I have been given samples of a new gem and I must turn my attention to discovering its properties. I have already discovered a method for cutting and preparing this [Crimson nihilite], as we've named it, so that it can be used in the creation of some beautiful work. Amber and Indigo Nihilite work equally well. We named it after a faction of the natives, though I'm not certain how these nihil differ from the others. I haven't time for the local politics. I have far too much work to do for that. Are you interested in learning something about crafting jewelry while helping me complete my [work]?' Despite my repeated insistence that they take more care with the things I make for them, they still return to me with many items in need of repair. The most common items they break are the simple clasps that hold various items together. I would be grateful if you could make many such clasps for me. Simply place this Thin Steel Wire into your Jeweler's Kit and combine it. It is a rather simple task, though the fine wire requires a delicate touch. Bring the clasps back to me when you are done. I have many such tasks that you can help me with. If you prove to be helpful enough, perhaps I will teach you how to prepare raw nihilite for use in your future jewelcrafting.' When prepared properly, it retains its opacity but gains a unique property. When you place it upon another object, the nihilite transfers the image of that object to the front face of the stone! For example,' Glirina takes a small piece of cloudy-looking stone and shows you all sides. It appears the same milky color on all sides, though two sides are smooth while the others remain rough. She places a flat side onto the Wayfarers Brotherhood emblem on her cloak. The portion of the emblem covered by the nihilite is visible on the surface of the stone, as if the stone were suddenly transparent like glass, but only between those two surfaces. 'The stone is rather soft, so it is both easy and delicate to work with. We have discovered the method for preparing nihilite. If you can bring some nihilite, Neysia will prepare it for you, keeping a small amount of it for our use.'' You receive 20 x Thin Steel Wire. Combine 1 in a Jeweler's Kit. You have learned the recipe Simple Clasp! Simple Clasp trivials at 31. After making them all, hand them to her unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What work?" and she will give you more until she is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100). Glirina Morningbloom says 'My thanks to you, ______. We have need of some simple items for trade, both here and in other lands. It's a way to keep ourselves involved in the markets all over Norrath. I would appreciate it if you would create some simple copper rings for me to help round out our inventory. Just place the Small Sheet of Copper and a Blob of Metal Polish in your Jeweler's Kit and combine them. Bring the rings to me when you are done.' This time you receive 20 x Small Sheet of Copper and 20 x Blob of Metal Polish. Combine 1 of each in a Jeweler's Kit. You have learned the recipe Simple Copper Ring! They seem to have become popular, and we'd like to take advantage of this trend while it lasts. Just take the Small Sheet of Brass and a Blob of Metal Polish and combine them in your Jeweler's Kit. Please bring the armbands back to me as soon as you can.' This time you receive 20 x Small Sheet of Brass and 20 x Blob of Metal Polish. Combine 1 of each in a Jeweler's Kit. You have learned the recipe Simple Brass Armband! Simple Brass Armband trivials at 46. After making them all, hand them to her unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What work?" and she will give you more until she is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100). Glirina Morningbloom says 'I am appreciative of your assistance. This task is a bit more complicated. We use a lot of silver chain in our work here, and it is always better and cheaper to make our own. If you could take the Thin Silver Wire and a Blob of Metal Polish and combine them in your Jeweler's Kit, I am certain you can create beautiful silver chain. Please return the chains to me when you are done, we have need of them.' This time you receive 20 x Thin Silver Wire and 20 x Blob of Metal Polish. Combine 1 of each in a Jeweler's Kit. You have learned the recipe Simple Silver Chain! Simple Silver Chain trivials at 54. After making them all, hand them to her unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What work?" and she will give you more until she is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100). Glirina Morningbloom smiles broadly at you. 'You have been of great assistance to me. It would be improper for me to ask more of you. I will find others to do these tasks. I have learned much doing research while you have been helping me. Let me show you the method I have discovered for preparing the Nihilite.' She works swiftly, but you understand what she is doing as she carefully prepared the soft stone. 'Here is some of the special polish that we have devised for use with the Nihilite. What I have shown you will work for both the Pale and Shimmering Nihilite, and you should be able to get useful stones from Raw Pale and Raw Shimmering Nihilite.' You know you can reproduce the polish she has given you. I just discovered that if you are beyond the point at which this quest would help (e.g. above skill level 54), then she will just give you all the recipes you would have learned had you done the quest. Just like scribing a book.

This quest is messed up. If you fail, and don't recover both pieces, she won't give you more nor can you go any farther. A complete waste of time. Thanks to the GM's though who helped me with her. Maybe one day the developers will fix her once and for all.

I know it's been a while, but for anyone else who is doing any of these quests in Abysmal sea - If you have any of the supplies remaining in your inventory when you try to get more, the quest giver will refuse. So just destroy any extra material you have in inventory, and then they will give you more to finish with.

Now that you can hand in stacks of items to the NPC's this quest is slightly easier (all 20 at once works fine).
This quest is a complete snooze fest. The devs should totally look this over.. Having to do 400 combines, just to refine gems is ridiculous.

I just parsed my log file and it appears that it takes about 80 combines before you recieve two back every time. Presumably another 80 will yield three each time but I'll update this when I find out.

The following do work since the 12/05/07 when combining in a reinforced jeweler's kit, one combine may return up to 2 stones.
Raw Crimson Nihilite = Crimson Nihilite
Raw Indigo Nihilite = Indigo Nihilite
Raw Amber Nihilite = Amber Nihilite
Each stone can than be combined in a jewel kit along with a jewelers glass and marquise cut tool to yeild...
Marquise Cut Crimson Nihilite, 10ac 375hp type 11
Marquise Cut Indigo Nihilite, 10ac 375 mana type 11
Marquise Cut Amber Nihilite, 10ac 375 end type 11
The raw shimmering combine works also.

This is broken at the moment and if you finish, you get the reward but because of the 3 other types of nihilite introduced into EQ the combines don't work in the reinforced jewelery kit right now. They are:

If you leave your JC kit up and a bag open to drop the ingredients in when she gives them to you. You only have to combine the first in the series, close your bag, open your bag and as you combine give them to her directly instead of auto-inventory. Every 4 combines hit the give button and done. This saves the time of having to go back and give them to her later after you've done the whole stack or stacks. Goes very fast this way.

Did quest in its entirety today...still works...the 20 minute time is BS...I was at it for over an hour and my chanter has 255 Int...so chanes are at the level this quest is most helpful, you'll be spending significantly MORE than 20 minutes doing the crafting/turn ins

No, you do NOT need to be an enchanter to do this quest (or any of the other five freebie tradeskill quests on the Abysmal Sea). These quests are for everybody.

I did this quest with my 35 Enchanter and when it came time that Glirina says: Here is some special polish. Well, she does not give me any polish.

I did almost 500 of the combines using the steel wire and never got the brass stuff.

Did this quest with my 15 enchanter tonight. While the quest is long (about an hour of continuous clicking) and boring, it will surely raise anyone's JC skill to 54 and will save you a lot of money and time in the process. Also lets you process GoD stuff so that is good too. Definitely recommend it to new enchanters out there.
I got the 20 thin steel wire and purchased the Jeweler's Kit from Glirina. When I put two unstacked wires in the kit I got the message "you cannot combine these items in this container type".
Any suggestions?

You're supposed to combine one Thin Steel Wire in your Jeweler's Kit. The write up on tis quest tis stated wrong.

Actually, anyone can craft things using the materials from GoD. They either just have to buy them pre-refined (refined by another player) or do an alternate quest to have the NPC refine them. This quest allows you to refine the raw materials (IE Raw Pale Nihilite) into a usable product (IE Pale Nihilite)
Also, there is a differnt return ratio dependent on your skill in the trade. At the point this quest leaves off, you'll get 1 refined for every 1 raw. When you GM this (or get close to it) you will recieve 4 refined for every one raw.
