Belious Naliedin is at 509, -141 in South Qeynos.

You say, 'Hail, Belious Naliedin'

Belious Naliedin says 'Welcome, my name is Belious Naliedin of the League of Antonican Bards. A few years ago, I finally saved up the money and bought this place. I settled in and have been [working] here ever since.'

You say, 'Working?'

Belious Naliedin says 'Ah, this is my shop. I am a musician, well known for my ability both in tuning, and [building instruments.]'

You say, 'Building instruments?'

Belious Naliedin says 'Young bards are often not the wealthiest people in Norrath, and oftentimes, they have nothing to accompany their beautiful voices when they sing. If young bards are able to locate, and bring to me the [various parts] to assemble a lute with, I provide the labor for free.'

You say, 'What various parts?'

Belious Naliedin says 'If you are able to find an unfinished lute body, an unfinished lute neck, a box of lute strings, and a set of fine lute tuners, I will be able to craft for you one of the best sounding lutes that you have ever heard in your young life, and it will be yours, free of charge. It has long been my desire to help out any young men and women who wish to explore the bardic arts.'

The pieces are sold in various locations. Upon hand-in:

Belious Naliedin says 'Ok, great. See, assembling these isn't that hard. Add a few special touches, and there you go. Another beautiful Naliedin lute is born, and ears everywhere rejoice.'

Here is the complete dialogue for this quest. My faction with the League of Antonican Bards was already maxed, but the rest of the faction hit values are shown below:

Quote:
You say, 'Hail, Belious Naliedin'
Belious Naliedin says 'Welcome, my name is Belious Naliedin of the League of Antonican Bards. A few years ago, I finally saved up the money and bought this place. I settled in and have been [working] here ever since.'
You say, 'working'
Belious Naliedin says 'Ah, this is my shop. I am a musician, well known for my ability both in tuning, and [building instruments.]'
You say, 'building instruments'
Belious Naliedin says 'Young bards are often not the wealthiest people in Norrath, and oftentimes, they have nothing to accompany their beautiful voices when they sing. If young bards are able to locate, and bring to me the [various parts] to assemble a lute with, I provide the labor for free.'
You say, 'various parts'
Belious Naliedin says 'If you are able to find an unfinished lute body, an unfinished lute neck, a box of lute strings, and a set of fine lute tuners, I will be able to craft for you one of the best sounding lutes that you have ever heard in your young life, and it will be yours, free of charge. Belious Naliedin says 'Ok, great. See, assembling these isn't that hard. Add a few special touches, and there you go. Another beautiful Naliedin lute is born, and ears everywhere rejoice.'
Your faction standing with League of Antonican Bards could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth has been adjusted by 37.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos has been adjusted by 37.
Your faction standing with Ring of Scale has been adjusted by -12.

Quest Item Locations

Just finished this quest on 7/7/06. I'm on the The Sleeper (Progression) Server, so this item is pretty good again. The locations for each item are as follows below, without using Firiona Vie, since Kunark isn't open yet.

Unfinished Lute Body & Fine Lute Tuners
Both of these are found on Ghul Rustem, an NPC vendor on the far end of the dock in South Qeynos. Find function can be used to locate him.

Box of Lute Strings
This can be found in several places, bought mine at the second set of houses in West Karana, closest to the Guard Tower.

Unfinished Lute Neck
Last piece you need to run to Surefall Glade for. Go there, find the Druid Spell merchants. There are 3 women in the building there around the corner from the door. One of them has the lute neck.

The whole quest took me about 20 minutes because I started in Freeport, so I bought the box of strings when I was crossing West Karana, so that put one item out of the way. Then I stopped in Surefall before ever going to Qeynos. It was a pretty quick quest. Several sources say the lute is better than vendor lutes, but from what I have seen both are 2.0 mod to stringed instruments, yet the one you do the quest for has a lower resale value than a vendor one to merchants. Still a decent item for a low level bard. :)

Still do-able?
# Feb 26 2005 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
[pre]Hi)
Was wondering if anyone knows if this quest is still active. Now that Firiona Vie is over run with the dark elves, I have not been able to find Leala Swiftarrow. Is there anywhere else to get the unfinished lute neck??
Thanks for any information[pre]

This is still doable but there is a similar lute that you can purchase in katta Castellum for around 50pp it's in a shop near the tenn. zone line along with some useful bard songs.

Just finished the quest. It's completely doable and easy, too. I didn't go to Firiona Vie, though. Got all the parts in Qeynos area.

Please post where you can purchase the "Unfinished Lute Neck". I checked with most of the suppliers in North and South Qeynos and just can't find them. Lute Strings can also be purchased at EC if I remember correctly.

i handed the 4 items and
he gave them all back saying
i have no need for these items.
unfinished lute body
unfinished lute neck
box of lute strings
fine lute tuners
oh well ill just keep trying
What's missing from the quest?
# Aug 20 2004 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, a number of people have posted here about this not working. Maybe the description is incomplete. I did the hand in, the tuners, body, head, and one set of strings. I was 'told' the following 4 times...
Quote:
Belious Naliedin says 'The League of Antonican Bards recognizes your past deeds, and appreciates what you have done for them. But, you must prove your dedication some more. . . I will say this, you are on the right track to earning our trust, friend.'

Ok, in for a penny, in for a pound. Gave the other 2 boxes of strings and still got that same message.

Are we supposed to talk to him BEFORE we go buy the parts? Or is the hand-in one item at a time?

I guess the hand-ins are not returned because you do get part of the quest, you get the faction.

Last night I made it to FV to but the stuff for this. Swiftarrow also sells some kind of flute parts too. Does anyone know what to do with those. It would be nice to have that +100% on more than one instrament.

I just did this last night with my newly created level 8 bard. Doing this quest once bumped me from amiable to kindly. I grabbed four backpacks and filled them up with enough parts to make 8 of the lutes, went back and handed them all in and on the final one I got a "your faction with league of antonican bards cannot get any better" message. So now, at level 8 I am kindly to qeynos guards, ally to bards everywhere, and I haven't checked my faction with the knights of truth yet but I would imagine it's high amiable or kindly. And all it cost me was a few pp, I recommend this quest to anyone that wants to get in good with the bards!

Lower Level Bards
# Nov 03 2003 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest with my husband who has a 5 lvl bard and I have a 3 lvl bard. We both knew at this level we wouldn't be able to use the lute, but wanted to get it ahead of time. We both got the items and went to the guy with these items.

My husband was successful, but the guild master took not only the items I spent my money on, but also told me I did not have enough experience.

If I were a bard out there wishing to do this quest, I would wait until you were at least a level 5 Bard.

Does anyone know if this quest is broken?? I just did this last night with my 11 Bard. (Getting the two items in Firiona Vie, although a little hairy running through all the spiders, was uneventful) When I turned the items in, he gave me back 3 of the four, saying "Ihave no need for this, you can have it back" but kept the unfinished lute body.... Anyone know what's up with that? Could it be a faction thing? Perhaps I'll use Clarissa's CHarismatic song on him and try that?? Oh well, at least the lute body can be bought right around the corner in So Qeynos.
Modifiers

I guess none of this is actually all explained somewhere so I'll give it a whirl and someone can throw in something if I missed or got it inaccurate...

Bard song modifiers are increases to the effects of a song, this includes stat effects, damage effects, run speed and regen but does NOT affect cast time or haste or melee slowdown.

Typically bard song modifiers are displayed as a percentage. An example is the lute of the gypsie princes (either one) which has a modifier of 5%; This means that holding this lute gives you 5% more power to string songs over a store bought lute or mandolin. As an example if you had a song that did 100hp of damage with a normal lute it would now do 105hp.

The new style of listing bard song modifiers is a number system based off singing having a value of 1.0, this gives most store bought instruments a 1.8 modifier. An example is a store hand drum which would be 1.8 times more effective than singing so if you played guardian rythms and it gave you 10 magic resist then the drum would make that 18.

The conversion is a little blurry and the numbers aren't always accurate as there arent many songs that add 100 to something for easy percent calculations; There also seems to be a different modifier for different skills so a store hand drum is 1.8 while a store mandolin is 2.0?

The current items to measure against are the store bought instruments like the hand drum which mods at 1.8 or 0% and the combine instruments sold in Katta like the combine hand drum which mods at 2.0 or 10%. With the advent of combine instruments this pretty much eliminates the usefulness of (but due to lack of knowledge doesn't eliminate the market for) many instruments including all but the best brass instruments and a few string ones (gypsie being less than combine) and most wind ones such as mino horn, scorp pincer, etc which are all less than combine.

Edit: oh yea almost forgot...
Store bought Lute or Mandolin 2.0 aka 0%
Lute of Jharin Apprentice 2.0 aka 0%
Custom Naliedin Lute 2.0 aka 0%
Gypsie Lute (nodrop for bard BP) and Lute of the Gypsy Princess (both from MM) 2.1 aka 5%
Combine Lute or Mandolin 2.2 aka 10%

...so this lute isn't better than the one you buy just cheaper to buy the quest parts.

Easier than this...
# May 22 2003 at 10:36 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I just recently did this quest with my bard. Started a new bard in fact, anywho, all the pieces can be found within the Qeynos area.

The First 2 can be found in the city.
Fine Lute Tuners
Unfinished Lute Body

The next can be found in Surfall Glade, inside the house right next to druid tree.

The last can be found in West Karanas, at the second set of houses from QHills zone, inside the house closest house to the second guard tower.
what do percentages mean?
# May 17 2003 at 10:34 AM Rating: Default
New bard here. Could someone post a general explanation of what percentages to different bard skills actually do? Is it a percentage to whatever song you're singing/playing? Like if I'm playing selo's with a drum that adds 5% to percussion, does that make me go 5% faster? Or does it make the cast time 5% less? While I'm at it, is there a factor that equipping a drum will improve the effect of the song, vs just playing it with no drum equipped? Thanks in advance for helping an aspiring artist :) (oh yeah, and if you're just gonna reply "go to <insert bard site>", then please either post a link to exactly where this info is on that site, or just save us both some time and don't reply. thank you drive thru)
RE: what do percentages mean?
# May 17 2003 at 2:51 PM Rating: Excellent
Generally, equipping instruments makes bard songs better, in most ways. It does NOT make them cast faster. Selo's is perhaps a bad example, as it is hard to measure exactly how fast you are going, but rest assured you will go faster with a drum equiped. Since no instrument displays its modifier in-game, the best way to test an unknown modifier is load a song that increases some stat, and see how much that stat increases. Chant of Battle works well for percussion instruments, and Hymn of Restoration for String Instrumetns, as long as you discount your normal regeneration. Notice that haste and percentage melee slow are NOT affected by instruments, and neither us the mana part of hybrid mana/health regen songs ( Cantata of Soothing, Replentishment, etc.) You can also look up a modifier on this site, or on www.magelo.com (You will have to register, create a new character, and start updating his equipment). Most of the bard sites do not have modifier lists as updated as these general sites.

This lute is better than the standard lute or mandolin, but worse than the combine instruments that can be purchased on Luclin in Katta Castellum, for less than 100pp each. (400pp for a set of 4) It is however dangerous to run there, so this piece could be worthwhile for a new bard, since you can avoid almost all danger by simply taking the translocator to FV, from Butcherblock, instead of the PoK book.

RE: Well well.
# May 16 2003 at 7:58 PM Rating: Default
Very true. But does anyone know yet if it actually DOES anything? If someone can find out the percent (if any) it affects stringed songs,it would be helpful.
RE: Well well.
# May 18 2003 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
It's shown as a 2.0 modifier, meaning it doubles song effect. Storebought lute is also 2.0. Combine Lute is also storebought in Katta, and has 2.2 modifier. I'd like to see the test results on this one. I suspect it's more than 2.0. Or why do the quest? Not listed in Lucy.fnord.net yet.

Did this quest just get solved finally, or did SOE just implement it? Where was it previously broken?
RE: Well well.
# May 26 2003 at 12:29 AM Rating: Default
It is now on lucy(thanks too me :) ) sadly it is only has a 2.0 mod on it. Which was kind of dissapointing, but there are some good points to the quest. Getting the components for the lute is about four gold less than buying a lute from a vendor. Secondly this quest gives a nice faction boost, I went from amiable to kindly by doing this quest once(I could have been very close to kindly faction I'm not sure).
