You say, 'Hail, Rilca Leafrunner'

Rilca Leafrunner says 'Well, it seems that you have something of importance that you wish to speak to me about? No? Then perhaps you can do something [for me].'

You say, 'What can I do for you?'

Rilca Leafrunner says 'Well I need some information. It appears that some gnolls are planning an [invasion] of Surefall. I believe there are some gnoll couriers that are running information. If you could bring me their marching orders, invasion plans, area maps, and their encryption key. Your best chance to catch a courier is probably inside Blackburrow.'

You say, 'What invasion?'

Rilca Leafrunner says 'Apparently they've heard of our plans to reopen the entrance to Jaggedpine inside Surefall. It seems they believe the think they have a chance to stop us. While most of us have little concern about a gnoll invasion force the information you provide would be of great assistance.'

Give her the marching orders, invasion plans, area maps and encryption key. They drop in Blackburrow.

Rilca Leafrunner takes a look at the documents you handed her and smiles. 'This is exactly what we needed. We'll be better prepared if the gnolls are foolish enough to actually attack. I hope you are willing to assist us in the defense of Surefall. Should you choose to aid us, this club will serve you well.'

You gain experience!!

Need faction required to start quest.

The only character that I have ever completed this quest with was the druid, who couldn't use it. Ever since they made BlackBurrow a high level zone, then reset it back to a newbie dungeon, Rilca Leafrunner has disappeared from Qeynos Hills, and the Gnoll Courier no longer spawns. Instead, a higher level gnoll, KoS but does not attack, runs the courier route. I have made several newbie 'toons since then and have taken them into BB to hunt, but no Courier have I seen. I am planning to do the Gnoll Slayer quest on my ranger, and would dearly love to have the Club of Gnoll Bashing to complement it.

Has anyone been able to do this quest since the BlackBurrow revamp and reset? I've petitioned several times, but have not gotten much response.

Big payoff

This took me like eight hours to do (kept getting the Encryption Ring). He pops up like clock work every 30 minutes. The weapon you are given as a reward is okay, not worth the trouble but was able to sell it to an NPC for 190pp. Still, not that great for eight hours of work (there are better ways to make $$$) but if you are inching to do this quest it makes a nice bonus. :)
Poor little necro..

Yeah.. I saw her.. I hailed her to get the Quest, and she killed my poor little gnome necromancer! Looks like i will have to change my faction a bit before i can do this quest~!

Rilca Leafrunner is back i saw her at fire pit with millers on 7th hammer server
RE: she is back

The problem isn't that she never spawned, it's that she's KoS to some of the guards... corrupt or not corrupt ones, not sure which. And she paths right by quite a few of them. So in the process of her roaming, she gets slaughtered.

I've /bugreported and petitioned it numerous times, to no avail. Her factions need to be altered.

I did this quest dozens of times when I was in my low-mid 30s. The Courier is on a fixed timer, every 27-28 minutes he spawns at the Qeynos Hills Zone and ambles down to the Jaggedpine Zone where he despawns. There are no placeholders of any kind. He drops all four pieces needed for the quest and he's the only one who drops them. He's a level 30 warrior-type with no special skills. He hits no higher than 65 and has about 1200 hit points.

The quest (if they ever bring Rilca back) is great. Because the courier is on a very accurate timer, I could zone into Jaggedpine or Everfrost where I was farming materials for Tailoring and Baking and zone back in to catch him when he spawned. It's worth the wait as the vendors would give me 190 pp for the club (Ally faction, 130 CHA).

I'm pretty sure that Rilca disappeared about the time that they started the Ykesha downloads. At the same time, that annoying Apprentice of Saxxus 'left' the zone also. I won't miss him, but I kinda liked Rilca.

So far I've had the following drop:
Gnoll Courier (Killed 6 times)
Encryption Key x 2
Area Maps x 4

Gnoll Tactician (Killed 7 times)
Blackburrow Battle Plans x 7

Also, they both seem to be on completely independant timers, both of 26 minutes.

You are correct, I too think that it's broken. Have tried two separate servers and haven't found her on either one have all 4 pcs (times 3) but there isn't anyone to give these to. Wonder if they plan on fixing it anytime soon?

Yes, the Quest is apparently broken. I have all the pieces and have been waiting for Rilca Leafrunner outside of Surefall Glade for over 18 hours in the span of a week and a half. Sony is aware of the issue, however to the quickness of a fix (?). As for the Courier...well he does spawn at the Blackburrow/Qeynos Hills entrance and spawns about every 26 or so minutes. The 4 items are random drops, although in my experience (doing this Quest 5x thus far) the Invasion Plans seem to drop the least. I have not noticed any relation to the Tactician spawn........perhaps just lucky, but since the last major patch..this Quest has been "Toast" :-P
Quest broken?
# Feb 10 2003 at 6:09 AM Rating: Default
I think this quest is broken.I camped the courier for several hours 3 days straight with my 28 cleric. Most common drop was key least common was maps.He spawns at zone to hills around every 25 to 30 minutes.Hits in the 60s tops. After getting all four pieces I went to the fire in front of Surefall where the Millers are.She was not there so I waited. After 8 hours nothing so i started asking people in zone if maybe she wondered. All said no and that they had not seen her in some time.Got several high level rangers to try tracking her and nothing there either.Maybe i am doing something wrong if anyone can think of anything please let me know.If not all i can think of is she has been removed by Variant or the quest has gotten broken during a recent patch. If they diid take her out then the Courier himself needs to be removed so poor fools like me don't waste time camping him. Thanks in advance to all who reply. And good luck with this one.
Courier
# Jan 23 2003 at 12:56 PM Rating: Default
If you see the courier, DON'T KILL IT!

The courier ONLY spawns after the tactician (the ph) is killed. Believe it or not someone might actually be in the process of finishing the quest and just because you notice this high level spawn - DON'T KILL IT! It will con indifferent so its not like you need to attack the courier to save your life.

The courier will spawn at the exit to Qeynos Hills and wander his way down to the third level and despawn by the entrance to Jagged Pine. #2 on the Level Three map from eqatlas.com

The tactician seems to be on a 15-20 minute timer to respawn.

i have spent several days in BB now, the tactician has constantly been up and is a static spawn in a room near the snake pit. the courier has roamed from the QH zone to JP zone every 30 minutes even after it's been killed once and the tactician hasn't been touched, so, the tactician and the courier are NOT connected.
RE: Courier
# Sep 23 2003 at 4:53 AM Rating: Decent
The Tactician has nothing to do with the Courier, if that was the case how comes I can have both on my tracking list at the same time?
RE: Courier
# Apr 29 2004 at 10:38 AM Rating: Decent
That doesn't disprove it as a trigger spawn.

Say someone killed the tactition, spawning the courier. 26 minutes later the tactition respawns.

Now, you come along and see them both up.
The Currier
# Jan 17 2003 at 4:43 PM Rating: Excellent
A ranger friend and myself were bored last night and found the quest so we said, What the hey..) We noticed that the currier wasn't up so we killed everything in sight to see if it had a PH or a timer. We noticed that every time we killed the Tactician,(we did this a lot to make sure), the Currier would spawn and make his was down to the JP portal then depop. He only had the chance to depop once..Big grin. I hope this helps for any one in the future.

The courier spawns at the entrance to bb. It is on a timer with no place holders I believe. Sorry I can't tell you the time between spawns, but I can swear that that is where he is found, however after spawning he walks down to the bottom of the zone, and I'm not sure what his final destination is, or if he despawns when he gets there (I assume he does).

The day Jagged Pine opened, I killed one of these in the little water room, near the spiked snake room. (The place where you fall if you step into the tree) I believe he must spawn there as people were killing everything in sight that day and he could not have wondered far.
Hope this is correct and helps you.

That would be the Gnoll Tactician. He drops the Invasion Pans, Onyx Earring (+3 agi). He is usually around lvl 13.

Argh, I'm looking for a nice 1HB weapon for my lvl 24 Enchanter and this thing keeps coming up. I would love to have it but I fail to see hoe it can be a lvl 15 quest when the mob to kill is dark blue to a lvl 37 peep. This should probably be fixed.

BTW, if your on xev and looking to sell one of these look me up.

A nice surprize
# Oct 09 2002 at 2:31 AM Rating: Decent
I got this last night as I waited for brewer to spawn. Each courier was dark blue to my 37th rogue and taken down easy. dropped 4 pp each and half blue xp each kill. Got all 4 in order didn't move off the log in the courtyard of Blackburrow until I killed a courier. and then only to go check on the brewer. They seem to spawn ever 25 to 30 minutes. Also 2 hours to get this item and whats nice is it sell (even with my low roguish Cha) for 158 pp to a merchant. A nice surprize if you ask me. Gave me some cash while I wait on brewer (who still hasn't dropped the cask) hope this is informative especially for rogues
Multiquestable?
# Sep 21 2002 at 12:57 PM Rating: Default
I was wondering if this quest is multi questable, cause I screwed up and got one part with my lvl 10 druid (with the help of a friend /wink) and another with my main. Hehe, I hope it is so I could just turn in the parts with both characters, that courier's hard to catch, well, I'm off to camp the entrance of BB, cya and thanks in advance. )
Gnoll Courier Only
# Sep 01 2002 at 5:13 AM Rating: Decent
The Courier drops all 4 items (each lore, no drop) needed for this quest. ALL FOUR ITEMS - Encryption Key, Area Maps, Invasion Plans, and Marching Orders.

No other mob is involved in this quest. I have done this quest numerous times and it takes patience for all items to drop (12 consecutive kills is nothing, try 16 to 20.. lol) but i can assure you they all come ONLY from the Courier.

The Tactician drops the Battleplans for this:

Vansted Rohenga (Clerics Guild in S Qeynos) says 'There is a believed to be a gnoll tactician somewhere in the gnoll camp of Blackburrow. I need you to bring whatever battle plans he may be in possession of so that I can position my troops accordingly. Return to me with whatever battle plans you can find along with 2 Gnoll Backbones and I will surely reward you for your dedication.'

Rewards: Stormhealers Mace

a nice one-hand bashing and definately is not part of the Gnoll Courier four items drops for Rilca Leafrunner

The area maps (and probably some of the other items) CAN drop off the Tactician but usually the Tactician seemed to have Blackburrow Battle Plans which don't seem to be part of this quest but occaisionally he did have the maps.

I had 3 of the 4 items beaten off of the Courier and the area maps beaten off of the Tactician, turned them in and got the club with my 41st lvl Enchantress (who hits harder with a staff than some warriors I've come across in my travels. lol).

I didn't sell the club but priced it with a merchant out of curiosity and was offered 191pp for it by the merchant.

Invasion plans drop off the tactician. He spawns near the ledge with the elite guards. Can't remember exact location.
Indifferent Makes Sense
# Jul 30 2002 at 8:25 AM Rating: Good
Someone commented about the courier conning indifferent. It actually makes perfect sense. 2 reasons: 1- He is on a mission, neither rain nor sleet nor steel wielding noobs will keep his parcel from being delivered. 2- How would you feel that at level 10 a wandering level 30 something that you are KOS to walked up behind you? Keeping his faction indifferent is what makes BB doable for the lower level players.

With the abundance of trains I have seen pulled, I think it would be rather disconcerting to a player running up the ramp to escape death only to run into a ready to attack courier walking down the ramp.

Just did the quest for fun... LvL 53 Druid on Tunare server.. sat and killed courier 5 times got all the loot off of courier... no need killing anyone but him get the four items listed and run to the chick by the millers. I put the club on my newbie cleric... it looks cool... Ok quest for the item.. good wholesome fun.

ok the gnoll tactician is something totally different. if you read the text she wants invasion plans not battle plans. i do not know what the battle plans are for but would think maybe one of the newbie armor quest.
i have timed the courier to bout 25mins RL. i just sat at entrance and buffed everyone that was fighting in zone while i waited.

i was afraid i had made that mistake....well ill be sure not to do it again :)

OH! i think the gnoll couriers path starts up top, he runs down ramp, underbridge, through the door that upons up, across the earth bridge above the port stone to Jagedpine, heads down towards the water....and then despawns....short path but if you shout they you are there to kill them and wait along the path they will come to you :)

i just finished doing this quest (36 ranger) and let me tell ya what made me soo unhappy. i was in BB trying to get these things and was surprised that i got all 4 things in about 2 hours.....the couriers coned dark blue but indifferent (very strange) the gnoll tectition coned green and scowling. well i got the stuff ran back out to the pretty lady hailed her, asked all the questions (was making sure she didnt refuse the give if i had not talked to her.....she was also darkblue and coned ally) so i made sure it was all 4 things, hit give and BAM! "im sorry pemen i have no need for this" and 3 "you misunderstood, i need all 4 items" /GRRRRRRR.......maybe the thing of the gnoll tectition wasnt the right thing cuz that was all she handed back :(

i guess the 4th thing i needed was also on a courier, but was mistaken by what the tectition droped.....stupid me i guess.

they've altered the courier on request of a few including me. The gnoll is too high in lvl to agro on newbies straight away. It's a place to grow. When Jaggedpineforrest was introduced, the courier was introduced as well. He respawned every 2 minutes and aggroed straight away. I was there with a lvl53 trying to find the new passage to jaggedpine. At that moment he respawned every 2 minutes after a kill, making it impossible for newbies to hunt there. In fact after 5 kills we had to zone ourselves cause we were getting 00m. Another added feature at that moment was right after the zone to QH a new standard gnoll spawned. Very nice in every faq says if you can't win, zone to save your life and what is waiting for them a new gnoll to finish them. So i guess the agro and spawnrate have been adjusted to make it a bit safer for newbies.

The currents spawnrate is 27.5 minutes after kill. If he despawned it takes 9-10 minutes to respawn.

I was doing the quest for the fun of it thinking it would be a piece of cake for a lvl 33 druid. When the courier popped I attacked without looking and then noticed the damage he was dealing. Once he was rooted I conned him and he was dark blue to me. Needless to say it has been the first time in a long time that I got exo in Blackburrow. BTW the most common drop in my experience so far is the key.
