The below location is the best.
To get the Shadowwolf Paw, I waited through 8 spawns:
1 spiderling spawned 3 times;
3 giant spiders spawned 2 times;
1 grizzly bear spawned 1 time;
1 giant spider spawned 1 time;
4 black wolf spawned 1 time;
The needed paw dropped from the first black wolf.
Each spawn was about 3 minutes apart.

loc -1200, -10300 in WK confirmed spot for black wolf and shadow wolf spawns. 3 or 4 random mobs spawn at this spot. got my shadow wolf paw in less then 10mins. 3/23/2011 Fippy Darkpaw progression server

I thought I might mention how I got my Shadow Wolf Paw in about 30 minutes, including a portion of my travel time. This info is elsewhere on this site, which sent me out to WK.
Go to roughly -1250, -10300 in West Karana. There is a flat stone area on the mountain there, with a large tree in the eastern portion. West of the tree on the flat is a spawn point. I saw single spiders, four spiders at once, and two pairs of wolves spawn there. All the wolves were black wolves, not shadow wolves. The first pair didn't help; the second pair had a Shadow Wolf Paw each. Since I killed endless shadow wolves in various zones (and a whole passel of black wolves, too), I am a bit incensed that Verant or Sony decided to play tricks by putting a shadow wolf paw on black wolves, then restrict them to one out-of-the-way zone.

The West Karana location worked!! I killed the shoadow wolves and black wolves for days in the EC and never a drop. I got a drop with the first Shadow Wolf I killed in West Karana.
and skip this one. Dusty Bloodstained gloves are easy to get, and dont require the ultra rare paw. Save your 3 woven spider silk for a different item from the quest.
Also it appears that only wolves in West Karana drop the paw, I killed many in Misty and in EC, also I checked all vendors for the paw, it doesnt sell anywhere.

Does woven widow silk work, drops off widows in tox forest in odus. if no does anyone know what woven widow silk is used for?
Are their Puma skins available out there and what do you get them from? I have a "Young" Puma skin, will this do????

Has to say just Puma Skin, not Young Puma Skin. Since it isn't NODROP you might find one on a vendor, particularly in East Commons as there are a lot of cats there and someone may have sold to a vendor. I saw one drop on a young plains cat, so it isn't only pumas that have it.

After killing hundreds of Shadow wolves in EC without finding 1 paw.... I was walking through WK looking for something to kill when I saw a shadow wolf in that zone. First I had seen there and the first kill dropped the paw I needed ;o)

Uh. . . do you know the reason you got them off a merchant? Another pc sold it to them, because they found them off of A giant spider in WK. (Sorry if im edgy, its 3A.M.)

Large or giant spiders in ec drop woven spider silk, i know because i have collected a stack of them while collecting spider silk to up my tailoring. as for the shadow wolf paw... i have never seen one before.

Your wrong Gaint Spiders drop woven silk .It is just a rare drop.

That is just a dirty misconception. Giant spiders drop SPIDER SILK, not WOVEN spider silk. Get it right. I also very much need to find WOVEN spider silks, 20 in all. I bought one from a female merchant in WK, she was in the second set of houses along the left wall of WK from Qeynos Hills zone.

Giant spiders in WK do drop woven spider silk, looks like a cloth cord, I've collected a few myself. Also, shadow wolves do drop the paw...but it's very rare. In three hours, we only got two to drop. Just requires a lot of time and patience....

It is not a dirty misconception. I have collected about 12 woven spider silks from Giant Spiders in WK recently. Its a pretty uncommon drop though. They also still drop spider silk.
