This here paladin of 46 was wandering the area when I spied it. Put up my symbol and went after it. Lt for 401 hp but then I started to hit stun and blind it. Was not really outdamagin it until I went from sword to Centi war spear. Had to use LOh as i didnt want to try and root it to back off and heal. Lucky me.
Anyway not a particularly hard fight. Would have been easier if I had MR up.
Hard mob

I was chilling in WK kitting HG's when i had to zone, on other side (NK) i used trackand saw him, Dark Blue at lvl43 (Bard). I was set up to kite so i thought Cool i will kill him, Bad mistake...
He LT a few times, nothing massive then Clinging Darkness, Ahh a Caster, not set up for casters i slowed down Selo's won't go when slowed, he hit hard between about 70-90 and at 3% HP the Clinking Darkness dropped and i managed to get to guards. He killed guards... I zoned, zoned back to see him sitting on top of guard tower killing newbies left right and center. i think he killed about 5 or so, Sorry guys :-/

Anyway just to let u know this guy is harder than he looks and as the above posts say (i wish i had read em earlier) he cannot be snared and is a necro ;-/

Immune to speed reducing spells....
# Nov 15 2002 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
The other day I was porting to Karana, and suddenly I saw this one right next to me. It conned blue and was ready to attack, so I began to cast ensnare on it, but I got a message like this: The Silver Griffon resisted the ensnare spell! The Silver Griffon is immune to speed reducing spells. Then I'm like OMG zone. I zoned and I don't want to attack it again.
Easy way to kill Griffon
# Oct 31 2002 at 10:53 AM Rating: Decent
Running through NK, saw this Grif, he conned Blue at 52. Snare, root and Panic Animal can not be cast. I ran to the guards at the bridge, let them take him on while I sat by and dotted him. Once they both died, the Grif was at 1 bubble of health. He was easy to kill then. He dropped the Silver Griffon Feather.
I popped this guy...

I was on my 45 druid porting some 55 ranger to NK, all the sudden the ranger goes "The Silver Griffon?"
I say "whats that? want to go kill it?"
So me and this ranger guy (i forget his name) go up and kill this thing, it wasn't hard to kill him actually, wasn't much of a fight, the ranger dude was hitting it, i threw a few dots on him (had my es arms) and DD him a few times. So he died, and here was this fether, and we question eachother or a little untill he was like. "take the feather, i don't have a need for it"

So i have this blasted thing and now that i have it i guess i'll have to finish the quest

I saw the silver griffon on track the other day. I'm a ranger, it conned yellow, I figure I could fear kite it. OOOFFF!

1. I find out my snare/root won't work on it.
2. Panic Animal didn't work, because it is not considered an animal (no, I didn't know that at the time).
3. My SOW failed

Sucks to be me, but fortunately I didn't lose my level.

My advice to rangers under 40 is not to mess with this thing unless you need to, because the normal griffon tactics don't apply at all.

i've started the Silver Griffon quest. you need to give a guy in jaggedpine(nolan greenwood i think) the silver griffon feather and a jade studded rawhide tunic. to get the tunic you need to kill Greshvoule in permafrost and loot a pouch of polished jade stones. give the pouch and a black rawhide tunic to a guy name wyndrunner in SFG. to get the black rawhide tunic you have to tailor it. i'm assuming you must be a high lvl tailor. the components are a cured panther hide(flawless panther + dew of the hatchling + jaggedpine sap)and wisps of potemaid hair. all i need is the potemaid hair and someone to tailor the black rawhide tunic and i'll finish it. i better get something good

Interesting that it is maybe a necro mob. I think he might have HT too. I got HT for 401 from this mob as I was standing at a gypsy merchant.

Ran into this beastie the other night. Spent some time figuring out a bit more. To add to what's already been posted here:

- He's undead/necro class from spells. He casts:
..Boil Blood...
..Clinging Darkness (snare DoT, will dispell sow)...
...Fear...
...Fairly weak lifetaps (<74hp landed)...

- He is SNARE/ROOT IMMUNE. Doesnt matter about past rumors. For root/immobilize and snare/ensare, all CLEARLY report he is IMMUNE to run speed modification.

- He runs at near SoW speed. Kiting with SoW, he keeps up very well (about the same speed as Grimfeather).
- Like all griffs, damage mitigation against him is poor. 71hp dmg per claw is about the standard attack round from him regardless of AC.
- He is VERY Poison resistant. Poison based DoTs may not land very well.
- He is easy to stick disease dots on.
- He is easy to stick slows on.
- He is not very cold resistant (hit 100% cold based nukes for full damage)
- He has roughly 3800-4200hp.

I aggro'd him with my shaman accidently. I landed a Turgurs Insects (70 percent slow) which stuck. Tried multiple Bane of Nife and Envenomed Bolts- none would stick, fully resisted (but no immune message). Zero for five on poison dots. Finally tried Epic- Curse of Spirits (1500 disease/splurt type). Re-applied a second Curse of Spirits when first wore off. Second curse completed (3000dmg so far). Finally finished off with two ice nukes @ 660dmg each, second one killed him.

He drops no coin, no items other than the NO DROP Silver Griffon Feather. Need to scour Jagged Pine to see what quest this applies to as it's obviously some new Druid armor/item quest to go with the new zone.

Good hunting

He must vary in level becasuse he conned White to me at 40 (shammy). Me and my pet took him down with me at full health, but OOM, and my pet almost dead (slow, dot, dot,dd,dd,dd, melee). He casted once, something that removed my SOW.

Not much more xp than a normal griffon :(
Anyone?
# Aug 30 2002 at 5:09 PM Rating: Decent
I killed him/her yesterday with a 39 paladin tanking away and me nuking, went down no problem at all with only 1 bubb of health lost by either of us.
Wondering if anyone has any more info on the quest? Been hailing lots of people in the area and trying to get some info but nothing as yet.
Maybe the npc with the info is many zones away :(
CAN be snared
# Aug 30 2002 at 3:29 PM Rating: Default
everyone keeps saying he cant be snared. well i used Ensnare the oteher day, took about 5 or 6 tries but it eventually stuck
panic animal doesnt work >_< as everyone has said.
i have no idea about root. and i dont really see the point since the damn thing is a caster
i took more damage from spells than i did in melee. I dont think anyone seeing this should think of him as a griffon. he doesnt hit nearly as hard as most do. in fact in melee id put him at about the same as a normal griffon, even though hes about 10 lvls higher than they are. however his spells were very annoying. he had a DS up and was nuking when i fought him. if it wasnt for the aego some friendly cleric gave me earlier i probably would have lost. was totally unprepared for panic animal not sticking.
on the plus side since then, ive taken him a few more times being better prepared and hes a pushover. not bad xp either =) i just wish he spawned more often.

I found this lil beasty while running thru omw to pick up a friend. People in the zone were fussing about him wiping out the newbies and how they couldn't root him to run, so I went to check him out. He was light blue to me at 54, when I tried epic on him I received the message " This target blah blah blah is IMMUNE to changes in its run speed". If a druid epic can't slow him I doubt regular snare can. Regardless , its not that hard to kill. Just kite him around a bit, a couple nukes and he is dead. I have killed him 3 times now, he is still light blue at 55, still immune changes in run speed. What I can't find is what to do with the feather, so if anyone knows of a "true" quest for this guy, please post. Any info on him would be appreciated.

Hmm, not sure what to tell you. I never got an immune message i got a resisted message a few times and then it stuck.. ill try it again today, i have no idea what might have happened.

And im still looking for a quest involving this thing as well. i hope its for a ranger, but seems more likely a SK thing... on the other hand redwind was a sk, so im optimistic.

When I played selo's constant chain on him it said "this creature is immune to speed changing spells". so not sure how your snare landed.
RE: CAN be snared
# Sep 27 2002 at 10:12 AM Rating: Decent
Yes he can be snared at least with ensnare - maybe he is immune to bard snaring spells - but I do know this - I was able to ensnare him at lvl 60
RE: CAN be snared
# Sep 02 2002 at 5:48 AM Rating: Decent
/agree

I tried ensnaring a couple of times yesterday and when I tried rooting got the IMMUNE message.
59 Druid and 60 Ranger both tried and couldn't affect it's speed.
It didn't last very long however :p

Saw this creature for the first time last night. I was unaware of its existance till just then. I also tried to snare, with no results. I'm a 44 Ranger and did not have root up at that time. Tried to go toe to toe with him and wound up running after about half hit points were gone. He was barely scrached. I wish I had more statistics but was focusing on my health and mana. :( I will be better prepared next time. :) glad some info was posted here. thanks.

here is what i learned about this creep in my meeting of him (the day after the JP patch). he conned even to a 40 wiz, (already established), couldn't be snared (also known) and he was an SK that HT's for 401 or 402, can't quite remember, but he went down very fast to the wizzy and me (52 ranger) and never hit me for more than 68.

The Silver Griffon glares at you threateningly -- You would probably win this fight..it's not certain though. (Light Blue to 60)

The Silver Griffon 's hollow eyes flare in an unnatural bloodlust. Its viscious talons flex --small droplets of thick, black substance oozing from its razor-sharp claws-- and a bellowing screech erupts from its silver beak in preparation for the kill.
You writhe in the grip of agony. You have taken 401 points of damage. (owie)

The Silver Griffon's corpse begins to violently convulse. An incorporeal mist begins to rise from the beast's ethereal essence as its corrupted soul returns to the shadows.
--You have looted a Silver Griffon Feathers.-- (lore, magic, no drop)

Now to find the specific NPC that asks for this item and I will post a follow-up with the dialog and whatever statistics are available.

Talk to Nolan Greenwood in JP. He gives the quest. He also requests a Jade Studded Rawhide Tunic, but don't know where that is found yet.

fear
# Aug 11 2002 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
He is not considered an animal, and is also a caster. He tried to cast Fear, and Boil Blood, his fear didn't stick and he did get me with boil blood. You can FEAR him, but not Panic Animal
RE: fear
# Aug 25 2002 at 9:54 AM Rating: Decent
Panic animal does work. Took him out that way myself. Snare woulkd have made it ALOT easier tho. he just about ran me over the whole zone.
can't root or snare
# Aug 09 2002 at 5:19 PM Rating: Decent
saw this creature for the first time, 8/9/02. It is immune to change in run speed, according to the message I got when trying to root. Lblue to me at 55.
and didn't have fear animal up, darn.
Que sera..I have enough 'no drop' items, anyway.
