Don't hunt for the 2 beetle roamers where it is marked on the map...unless you want to. Head to the south west wall, around -2165.40, 1031.03, and you will find beetles.

When finishing out your Hunter achievements, just clear the rockhoppers and beetles south of the Shar Vahl entrance until he spawns. Worth noting that Gorehorn and the mobs here do NOT respawn when the War resets, so you need to clear them out manually.

Conned white to L32 Beastlord

Gorehorn conned white to my L32 Bst so I decided to give him a go. Got him down to 60% before my pet died and my kitty had to hightail it out of there. If the L38 listed on this page is correct, I need to send in a bug report for the incorrect con result.
Luck?

I assume i just got lucky as hell? i was just strollin through the zone and i saw this guy on track...figured it was a named green so i'd take it and see if it had anything good. Dropped mask; i'd seen mask before but never knew what dropped it. Nice i guess =)

I guess nobody at Verant remembered that they already used the name Gorehorn on a named minotaur in Steamfont.

Now i know that the tried and tested way to get him to spawn is to run around near outpost and kill all beetles untill he pops. Last night i spent over 3 hours killing them, Dirtchomo popped 5 times dropping all of his listed loot all of which was no good to me (40BST).

I decided to leave it after that since it was 4.30 in the morn. My point is i know this guy is a rare spawn but any of you know a better way to spawn him??

Kited him a few times with my 37 bard. He resists a lot, and has quite a few hps, but eventually those dots wear him down.

Seems to work quite well for me, since no matter how much he resists I don't run out of mana. Was worried for a bit that he might have high regen as well, but apparently that isn't the case.

Seen mask drop twice and horn drop twice, didn't know he had a 1hs as well until just now.
how I kill him

Ok, as a 41 Ranger, I still have a hard time with him. He cons solid blue at 41, and I usually wind up kiting him a bit.

What I have not heard mentioned is that he is immune to non-magical weapons...yep, so bowkiting is out.

He is virtually immune to Snare and Root, but if you can get Snare to stick, it is good for full duration.

I am still using Stinging Swarm dot, always sticks.

For dd I use Careless Lightning, it almost always hits for full, only one outright resist in 3 kills.

Hit him hard and fast and keep sow up, he is quick and without snaring him, you will be healing on the fly alot.

Good luck, he is fun, but only good loot is the Horned Beetle Mask, but that is worth the effort, especially for monk twinking ;)

Or... you can fletch up some silver arrows. Yes, expensive, but not too bad. 80p or so will get you 200 magic arrows if you have the skill needed to make em.

Ok at 41 you SHOULD at least have done you Trueshot quest and made a Trueshot, like a good lil Ranger. I made mine by then, and got my Raincaller by 45. Point is: Magical Bow + Arrows = Magical Weapon. If you don't want to do the Trueshot series ( bad lil ranger ) group with a mage to summon you some MAGICAL arrows.

If you doubt my point, I have killed Magic Weapon only mobs everytime with my Trueshot, with normal arrows I have crafted, so it will work.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I had two types of arrows for my Trueshot ... silver tip for the Grimlings and regular class 1 wood arrows made for range. I accidentally loaded wrong arrows into ammo and can confirm that for grimlings that you can get message ....Invulnerable .... I always carry a at least a couple stacks of silvertips now for my Trueshot Bow along with my cost effective arrows that work almost as well in most situations.

I've killed this bugger a few times since i was lvl 45 onward. VERY resistant even up till 51 not one fire spell, difficult to get a snare but dots stick easy. So I just dot kited him without the roots long long time but hey you know how weeny us druids are. He has dropped everyone on this list as well as a Pristine Rhino Beetle Carapace. Anyone know what it may be used for before I dest it? I keep collecting garbage and am doing some fall cleaning.

With my 52 druid, doing the cleaning using guards at fort, Gorehorn can usually be spawned in about 30min.

Snare takes couple of tries but will stick.
Root is not worth the mana as it will be resisted or broken in a couple of seconds for me.
dot work well as he usually resists dd enough to use up the dot effeciently.
DD is the way though resisted a lot. Have had him resist 612 completely or down to 300s or even down to 25s.

Taking him down as fast as possible uses from 2 to 3 bubs mana min and max 4bubs on the tough one. Could prob kite him around but can sit and med after kill safely before spawning him again.

If adds while kiting... be sure is snared.... and run adds to guards then go back to Gore.

Has dropped the mask more often than not for me, next being the horn, and less often the wingblade.

Have the horn on my necro for meleing stuff if needed and the mask on my war and monk.

Sell the masks if need the cash for around 800pp.
Give the horns away to low lvl casters.

He is not an easy guy to beat but has nice drops for the time takes.

This bugger and dirtchomp are very annoying to spawn, gorehorn more than dirtchomp. I haven't been able to spawn him at all. Dirtchomp keeps spawning and I just take him to the training camp. Used the technique of bringing a group of rhinobeetles and rockhoppers there. Then, I just left to make some money. Gated back and Gorehorn was up. Snare stuck on the second cast. Root almost never stuck. Druid here BTW. Dumped a magic DoT on him a lot of times. Tried nuking him down til i was down to 3 bubs. Tried immolate.. forgot he was highly resistant. The kiting took so long my snare wore off and I was off running around trying to stick a snare on him before I chanced to DoT him. Wasted a bub of mana on that. I was oom a lot. Good thing if I get adds i can just bring em to that place with Gorehorn snared. Dirtchomp was only a little easier. Thats why I'm like.. ***** Dirtchomp and just bring him over and let the cats finish him. Too bad I already bought the mask the other day when I couldn't spawn Gorehorn. So I took this mask and sold it for 200 more than I paid. I didn't really pay all that much anyway. Gorehorn was up again. He must have been a placeholder for himself... too bad I couldn't get the mask again since its lore. It was a little hard to find a buyer. Must have been my price.. found 2 buyers but only one had the cash on him.

I took him down today with an untwinked 45 ranger (he's my main, and since I'm always helping others his own gear is actually under par for level 45), it took all of my buffs and my own DS and he had me down to about 1 bubble and a half when it was over, I was nuking 99DD nonstop the whole fight as well. He conned light blue.

I was on my beastlord killing rockhoppers and rhinobeetles when i saw this big bettle walk up a hill in front of me. I never saw him before so i desided to quickly get on my druid and kill it since i was camped a zone away... well it turns out he was blue to me at 39 and I thought this shouldn't be bad, well I tried to ensnare him and he kept resisting and i tried to kill him with 3.5m well i had to zone. I got to fm and tried again and i brought him down to about 2 bubbles and i was oom! i shouted if someone could help me and i would bring him to them. I got a tell from i nice beastlord that said to brong it so i ran to her when all of a sudden ensnare wore off. So i was running while the beetle chased me while the beastlord chased the beetle. Eventually she got it off me but she was only lvl 31 so i thought she would have trouble, she almost dies when she finished it off for me and i looted the crappy Wingblade, i wish i got the mask. Anyways i thinked the beastlord and healed her and buffed her. As much as i would love to get the mask, I don't think I will be trying to kill this little sucker unless i have a partner or until im lvl 44 or something:)

9/19 Lammy
12/25 GJB

I fought gorehorn at lvl 37. He conned Darkblue and i fought him i thought what the hell. So his lvl is ALOT lower then 38 hehe more like 34-38 anyways. He hits very hard. For his lvl. About 53 a double hit. Which sounds about right for his lvl. But its that he hits very fast. I was hitting for about 32 average on hits. I got him to half life. He wacked me down to 100+hp left over. While he was at half. =( he is hard. So oh well.

Ok hehe brought back a ranger friend. I killed to gorehorns both of us walked away very happy with 2 masks. One on my friend and one on me. Awesome mask, made a nice upgrade from antlered. Anywho. I have some info that i think is pretty proven. I had him and dirtchop pop (gorehorn=2 dirtchomp=1) Ok, from the entrance of the area where there is like a tent type thing set up well head out striaght to the big hill straight out. Ok now face towards the mountian. The one with the city on it that is. No kill all the rhinobeetles and rockhoppers. If a rockhopper aggros (that being if he coned green) it was either dirtchomp or gorehorns PH. This i know, i was aggroed only by a few rockhopper. The more you punch holes over that area the more he will spawn. With in less than 1 hour i got him to spawn once by myself and with my friend we got him and dirtchomp to pop twice. So GL and i am a very happy camper =)
How to hunt Gorehorn and Dirtchomp

All right, I have this down to a science. I hope this helps.

Both Gorehorn and Dirtchomp can be found in Hollowshade Moor, right near the Shar Vahl entrance. They always spawn on the RIGHT side of the road (facing AWAY from the city) before the water. If you look on the map of the place, this gives you a little triangle area. I saw Gorehorn spawn at +19, +2142, but I do not believe he spawns in the same place all the time, since his placeholders spawn all over this area.

The placeholders for both Gorehorn and Dirtchomp are the AGGRESSIVE (for newbies, that means the monsters that will attack you on sight) rhinobeetles and rockhoppers. What this means is, every time you see an aggressive rhinobeetle, it could have been Gorehorn. Every time you see an aggressive rockhopper, it could have been Dirtchomp. Most of the rhinobeetles and rockhoppers won’t attack you if they are green to you. Some of them, the AGGRESSIVE ONES, will always attack, and these are the placeholders for Gorehorn and Dirtchomp.

The most effective way to camp both of them is to get yourself a SOW, and run around attacking every rhinobeetle and rockhopper you see (don’t bother with track for this part) and then take them to the Vah Shir Training camp, where the guards will kill them all. At this point, check track for Gorehorn and/or Dirtchomp. You should also check tracking while you are training, just don’t use it to find mobs, it is too slow. Just run around and attack every rhinobeetle and rochhopper you see. I usually take no less than 6 at a time to the guards.

THERE IS NO SET SPAWN RATE FOR EITHER ONE OF THESE TWO! It is completely random. How do I know this? I farmed the area for 16 hours (8 hours, 2 days) and I found both of them to spawn in as little as 30 minutes apart, and as long as 3 hours. Both are random, and not related. I have 4 masks for my trouble (I hunt with 2 characters, and I had to make 2 mules in Shar Vahl. I have collected 2 masks in a row, both times, but I still think it is random each time, and I got lucky. It is my belief if you can spare 4 hours, you have a very good shot at getting at least 1 mask.

I am a level 40 Wood Elf Ranger. I hunt with my 53 Cleric (I have multiple accounts, and I use my laptop for the Cleric). At level 40, I have no trouble with Dirtchomp. With Gorehorn, I always need at least 1 heal from the cleric, sometimes more. Dirtchomp cons light blue to me at 40, and Gorehorn cons dark blue to me at 40. I was hunting there last night with a real life friend who is level 15. For him, the rhinobeetles and rockhoppers coned light blue and dark blue.

Dirtchomp drops a decent whip called a Severed Rockhopper Tail, the only trouble is it has an effect of ROCK MITES that effects the USER, not the TARGET. I have petitioned and got a GM who said he did not know if this was correct, and told me to send in a bug report, which I did. Still waiting on the results, will let you all know.

If you have any questions, please send me a tell in game, my character’s name on FENNIN RO is Iomhair (that is a capital i, not an L), and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Who: 43 monk. 830ac 1231 hp. weilding a goranga spiked club and a Cane of the Tranquil....was alone.

Where: I stayed just a ways outside of the city. If facing out from the city I stayed to the right of the road.

When: Seemed he spawned twice for me in about 1.5hours.

How: Killed everything to the right of the road (within viewable distance). There is a hill to the right of the road and down a short walk from city. I deemed that a lookout area (no track = ))

When it spawned: Cumulative average was this...
Battle length: 141seconds
Damage I did to him: 2545hp
Damage I took: 1253hp (used mend, of course. It was close, hehe)
Tried instill, hoping to buy myself some free dmg. Didn't stick twice, and the rest failed all together. (instill at 161 atm)

First time he spawned, I didn't think I was gonna be able to take 'im. And then, to add insult to 1250ish HP injury, he dropped his horn.../sigh. Second time seemed to come around quicker (I'd started killing rockhoppers too, this may or may not have been why). Second time he dropped the mask. WOWIES ) It might not be super neato to many, but it makes me a little teary eyed = ). Love it. Much lighter than the cougar one I had on!

Hmmmmmm sounds like a fair hit for a level 38, so I don't agree that he's underconned. NOw a dark-blue conning Erudite in Dalnir whomped me for 291 a few nights ago, and I *might* argue that taht is a little out of hand....

Went into hollowshade moor today to kill this bish for its mask for my alt warrior. I found him wandering sorta near the city..I had my spectre pet with me to show off to ppl in the zone I walked past hehe :). Anyway...I see this bug and I said, I'm not gonna waste any mana on this
worthless bug, so I'll just send my pet in to rip him a new one.

Casted spirit armor on my pet, then casted Augmentation of Death on him. I /waved at Gorehorn and said /pet attack. My pet was quading on him for high 50s, lifetapping very very often - once or twice every 2 seconds seemed like, bashing and kicking for 40 pts and stunning him. Gorehorn put up an offense too, never hitting my pet for over 70 pts, but landed a few nice hits on him. My pet took about a little less than a minute to kill him, coming out of the fight with 78% health and Gorehorn's dead body laying there with a nice shiny Horned Beetle Mask right there waiting for me to loot :). Mask went straight to my alt.

for what it's worth...

just got done killing this guy with my 44 monk. it was not what i'd call an easy fight, but not terribly difficult. i was at full health when i started and did use mend, though i *may* have been able to take him without it. what can i say i'm a wuss. my monk is modestly twinked, with 2 kd's, 1300 hit points and over 800 ac (not a ton, i know). never hit for over 75, but he hit often.

i added up my damage and he has approx. 2k hitpoints.

dropped the mask (thank god...didnt want to have to do that again :P) and some other junk. all in all it was definately a well spent hour as this mask is a very nice item for the lvl of the mob it drops off of.
