Calves...
# Jun 18 2002 at 3:55 AM Rating: Decent
Urm.. these things are good exp grouped or not.. I can solo two (found that out tonight by accident hehe) They will agro easy so if you have someone pulling make sure they pull waaaay around another calf or god forbid a mammoth... I generally go to Bandl (He's all by his lonesome a bit aways from snowflake) It's good to have your group wait there.. have someone pull to the ridge .. any trouble just run to Bandl I've seen him take care of a mamma.. and 2 calves.. ( no comment ) most of the time they travel from north to south or south to north in a cycle if you don't kill them all.. there is also a place called 'mammoth ramp' aptly named of course that is where I believe they spawn.. I dont' go there since I can't even begin to take on a mammoth lol...(at level 17 :) )

No stun - good for casters

I am an untwinked weak little woodelf bard lvl 16 and i thought i might try one of these. Some con light blue to me and some con dangerous. But never once i got stunned by one of them. You know, as they say: A stunned bard is a dead one.

So every caster with up-to-date channeling should be able to take them down. If you got a pet there shouldnt be any problem. My lvl 12 mage did the lower ones, my lvl 10 Necro as well. The Necro only once had to run but not to the Barbs, they hate him, tsk tsk :-)

Well... In EF... lol, jk. They are just out side of the canyon type area AKA the newbie zone. The main enterance to it is one of the canyon type trails that has 2 guard type peoples and snowflake outside of it. The best place to pull to though is the alternate enterance that has only one guard person. To get there you turn right out of the main ent until you get to a gobby camp, avoid it (no point in killing these pansies). Keep going until you find the one guy and stay somewhat near him in case of emergencies (aka momma woolies).

I feel you could solo one. try it. who cares. I personally would try it. yes. as long as your spells stick. Sicken and tainted breath should work.... I would recomend also casting Drowsey.... since it slows an opponents attack... and stuff. and Shaman's ROCK.... btw. Yu could do it even before the luclin upgrade... it might just take forever....

My Troll shammy is SLIGHTLY twinked with AC (not more then if I had FULL raw-hide or FULL leather. but with that. a fine steel spear.... when I self buff I find I can take on 2 deep blues wihtout too much trouble and even a yellow. I think you could. BUT.. beware any elephant type creature hits VERY hard.... nearly all elephant types hit hard. I think it could be done. and at lvl 9 you have self SOW if all else fails. you could kite with Frost rift or that first poison spell you get at 9. That and nukes with sow you COULD kite one... technically..... you will burn all mana doing so.... lol.

but yes. my self buffs make me like 1.5 levels better or so it seems. like a is you act more like a 10.5 almost...

Find a partner around 10-12 (a group, if possible). You'll do fine if you stick around one of the guards.

Are you a shammie? Ever played one? I hate people that answer a question like that without knowing WTF (IMHO) they are talking about.

I am a level 9 shammie with only a little twinkage for wis jewelry. Most of my armor is leather. I soloed a calf (conned yellow 2me) yesterday. Buff yourself max ~ in order to have enough slots for all the spells I cast SoW and Tali of Beast, then swap those two out for Scale Skin and Fleeting Fury.

Pull the Calf by hitting it with Sicken, then run back to where you plan to fight. Hit it with Tainted Breath as it comes in. Remember that with SoW, if things get bad you can just run up or down the ravine a ways (be sure not to run to the guards or near another Mammoth) stop, and DoT it again. When a MoB is chasing you, the DoT only does 66%, but that's better than nothing, and you are taking no damage at all.

Make sure your conjuration is maxed before you try DoTing stuff- I sat in Halas for an hour or two, summoning food and drink till OOM, then medding back to full, summing food and drink.... boring, but it made my med and conjuration skyrocket.

First of all Tali of the beast isn't implemented into the game yet, and and secondly using a group buff for a single person is retarded. So I ask have you ever played a shammie? Grouping for calves is the best idea before 10 or 11, shaman solo well through most lvls but don't really start to pick up until mid 20's (when canni and regen can start to cut down time).

Didn't the descendents of the plains indians, the Big Game Hunters (BGH's) hunt these things by hurling spears at them? If I remember clearly, they had a special point on the spear called a clovis point. How come verant can't use these historical items to aid in the massive hunt of these already extinct creatures?

Oh yeah I had Oklahoma History, so that's how I know. Don't ask how they're linked, Oklahoma and Ancient hunting Indians.

I'm just bored. Sorry.

Probably because as you and I know full well Verant has about as much respect for historical accuracy as they have for a squished roach. You know; slashing shortswords, banded mail that looks like chain (it's really closer to plate), bronze armour that's just as strong as steel, and the list goes on for ages. But the point is Verant couldn't care less what is historically accurate.
RE: Dating Back In History
# Aug 13 2001 at 2:52 PM Rating: Default
True, they care nothing for history. To think, they even include MAGIC in their game! For shame, for shame.

# Sep 28 2001 at 8:54 PM Rating: Default
Yeah, I mean FANTASY is so messed up. DUH, stop complaining about what is in a FANTASY game. Kinda like one person said in a different topic, "I think that Verant should take tinkering out of the game because the items you make from it don't fit into the fantasy catogory."..... Huh? Fantasy=anything that your twisted little head can conjure up.

ok, i have sen enuf of this. Quoting the line from metallica is REAL gay. It doesn't make you look (look?) tough, and the song itself is an embarasment to the old-Metallica fans. It has nothing to do with the game, and ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the subject matter you are adressing. If you are going to quote a spng, please, at least (1) make the song relavent to the subject and (2) pick a ************ song.
RE: Dating Back In History
# Apr 26 2003 at 6:35 AM Rating: Default
ok, WAY off topic here... call me ignorant, but I didn't see a Metalica quote. Not only that, but how would quoting a metalica song equate to being gay? (nevermind, I don't really want the explanation)

So many flames, such little value... you kids play nice, damnit! :)

Soloed since 12th

I've soloed quite a few of these, at least the blue and white ones as a lvl 12 shaman without any real difficulty. Occasionally they will get me down to 2 bulbs life left, but they've never killed me. Make sure you get those DOTs in there before you melee and pull it back so you dont get jumped by anything else.

Pull 'em!!
# Jan 31 2001 at 1:23 PM Rating: Default
The first time I engaged one of these, I watched a Wooly Mammoth come over the rise. Thinking it was just another calf, and having no idea they trained (a stupid assumption on my part), I kept on fighting and didn't move. Well, as you probably have guessed by now, I died QUICKLY!!! Needless to say, I learned to pull em to the peaks and fight there. Other players nearby might think you're in trouble and try to help, so be sure to let them know you're OK and that you're pulling. You'll probably get aggroed by a passing skel or gobbie whelp, but pay them no mind until after you've felled the calf. Happy hunting everyone!!! I am an 17 lvl war and these things are so easy. I got hit by three of them at once and they can't hit for anything. By the time I was done killing them all I was down two bubs of life. The only thing I don't get is why they are still blue to me.
RE: To easy
# Oct 19 2000 at 5:46 PM Rating: Decent
The higher the level you are the greater the range of blues is. Besides the fact is that they were probaby very low blue which means you got nearly no experience. Not even worth the trouble.

Wooly mammoth calves tend to be a tiny bit tougher than mammoth calves. They also seem to me to be a bit more common.

oh yes there is. about ten levels. (insert long drawn out story here) my friends and i (all about 10th season a 10 shammy, 11 warrior 10 warrior, and 9 shammy) were downing calves left and right. fair loot and good exp. it was very simple for us, but then we saw a mamma and decided to try it, and the thing killed all my groups members (i gated when the first two warriors were taken down in about 20 seconds) and then it killed my shammy friend and ran all the way to the ramp to kill me. these things ar tough if you are below level 20.

I was helping a friend (lvl 11 barb warrior) when i was a lvl 7 shaman, we took one, and even tho the lvl distance, i still got over a half a bar of exp. I went down no more then a bub and my partner maybe 2.

COOL! I am a lvl 10 and am going to try to solo one. Think it's a good idea?
RE: great exp
# Oct 27 2000 at 3:26 AM Rating: Default
I only can say, try it. I'm a 11th level barbarian warrior and I solo them since level 10. It's very important to con them. With some good buffs on you, you should even be able to solo the yellow ones. Sure, they will kill you one or two times, but 1 or 2 out of 10 is worth it.
Good hunting to you,

Yep, that further proves that this is not an RPG, just fantasy Quake. To a roleplayer, the thought that a druid would bore themselves by killing these critters is obscene.

Check around for Wooly Mammoth before engaging. The parents are not very happy if you attack their calfs in sight. And they hit pretty hard ...
Good exp and loot.

These are easily killed by a 14th lvl warrior and a 14th level cleric. Good experience and good loot(mammoth calf tusks.)
