i remember at lower levels i was so impressed when people would take slate and maybe a couple other guards to the EC tunnel and kill them in front of everyone. nowadays i am able to get all the guards and druids on me and kill them

I was killing time in EC today, and decided to try killing Sarge. Can't kill this guy enough, it seems. Like eating potato chips.
Snared him, sent in the pet, cast Venom of the Snake, and then feared him. Rinse, wash, repeat. Took almost all of my 1800 mana pool, and I had to turn Call to Bones on at the end to finish him off.
He died. I lived. Decent XP too for a 34.

Today i was going through ec with a warrior friend who wanted to show me that warriors could solo. Well we went to neriak first and killed a couple de guards and kicked a merchant's butt. Then, we go back to ec and he wants to kill a couple fp guards. My faction started out indiff to the guards. Well my friend attacks a green guard and i'm close enough that my selo's gets in and i get faction hit. This weak guard sends me from indiff to apprehensive, so i'm not that worried. I'm going along the zone when Slate attacks my friend, so I try to get to him using selo's. I made it with enough time to help him zone and decided to chant Slate around a little bit. As a 39 bard, he conned yellow to me. He hit me right before I started chanting and did 108 damage, so I decided not to risk snaring him and chant kited with selo's instead of snare. Well he never touched me one more time in that fight and at 20%, I started snaring so he wouldn't get away. My friend comes back in and for fun starts beating on Slate, so we kill him and I go to check out my faction with other guards. Still apprehensive. I found it really funny that the guards hated me more for help in killing a weak little guard that was going down anyways than their own beloved Sergeant.

Faction works as a points system. Each mob that is associated with one or more factions has a numeric value or values assigned to it. That value is added to your faction total whenever you kill it.
For example, (since I don't know the exact numbers on the scale I'm just gonna make stuff up) you're faction with the Freeport Militia (FPM) begins at 0, or indifferent, as does your Knights of Truth (KoT) faction value. Guard Whatshisname has -25 pts. to FPM and +15 pts. to KoT. The value you need for any faction to be apprehensive toward you is -25 and to be considered amiably is +25. Dubiously is -100 and kindly is +100. You go spill Whatshisname's guts all over the floor and your FPM goes to -25 and your KoT goes to +15. Do it again and the values are incremented (or decremented) again. Again, as far as I know these numbers aren't the actual values used in-game; they're just examples.
And when your faction total reaches -1000/+1000, every time you kill something that would decrease/increase that faction you'll get a message saying "Your faction standing with Blah Blahblah could not possibly get any worse/better."
Basically what I'm getting at after all that jibba jabba is that the first guard you killed had a FPM faction value high enough to take you down to apprehensive, but adding Sgt. Slate's faction value wasn't high enough to take you down a step further. Kill him again and you'll probably see a change.

As a DE necro, I have always had to watch my back when in EC with this guy roaming around. Like so many people in this thread, he had attacked me on a number of occasions. Well, revenge is a dish best served cold (a cold hand of death!). I hadn't thought about him in about 20 lvls, until one day I was passing thru EC (one of the first times in ages) and saw him. He conned white so I went at him with extreme ease. He never resisted me, I only threw 3 dots on him and my pet. After 3 fear casts he was done. Cheap bugger though. Only got 6 plat off him...nothing else. But it was still a satisfying kill! :)
I took out Sergeant Slate while I was passing through EC one day. He was white at the time so I thought it was worth the shot. I tried to snare him, but he resisted the first time. I thought I was toast and that he was some undercon, but I tried snare one more time, and that time, it stuck. After he was snared he was an easy kill. I just kept him snared, nuked him with Firestrike, and DoTed him. Should go back one of these days for a little rematch =)

This guy is a dumb ***. I was killing Reskin and Tolus at the same time, both light blue at level 35. "Sergeant Slate hits YOU for 119 points of damage!". I snare him, it doesn't resist, then nuke him to death with only 2 resists. I'm gonna kill him more often.
Walked around EC with my 29 shammy, and thought of killing Guard Tolus(whom conned me blue) just for the hell of it. Started by castind dot, rooting, and nuking him. Everything was fine, until, suprise suprise, Sergeant Slate came in. Don't know how, but this guy just keeps coming in the moment you'd not wish him to come in! Had to run away, but didn't give up on Guard Tolus. Ran off and nuked him, until he fell. Then zoned out as fast as possible. Slate is one of the main people whom I shall kill at higher levels! That's a sure thing, yes!
Anyway, I've mostly seen him walking between the Inns. He attacks mobs and races he doesn't like just like the other guards, but he's higher by the levels. Kill him please. Just to make me happy... :P

Took him out with a 40 Enchanter. Good old root and nuke with a little fear thrown in. Root him, fear him, nuke until root breaks, then he'll run. Root again and keep repeating.
Root has been resisted 3 times in more than 5 fights, so he's been easy so far.

BTW my 37 Necro takes him out each time I run through EC on my way to the Druid Ring to play with the Druids ;)

I took him out with no trouble a few times today. Root and DoT... roots don't last long so keep your mana up. I was hoping for something better that the 5pp that he dropped... waste of time...

maybe he does 124 sometimes, but most commonly i see him do 119.

I am a 35 Shaman. he aggro'd when i was pulling another guard and killed my pet, but after killing my original target I played with him for a while...ended up having to zone, but thought I could take this joker.
Next attempt I tried rooting it was stupid burned a lotta mana and only got one decent duration root. Did land a malaise so thought hey I can still do this...well ran out of many and zoned.
Third attempt tried to lead with mala never stuck...zoned.
Last attempt just used Poison and DIsease DoT and pet and he went down. Had skeles aggro'd on me, but made no difference. Waste of time at 35 cause it takes so long, but it was a matter of pride I had to kill him after he attacked me.

51 monk with ok gear, slate was easily killed. Secret? instill doubt. He doesnt hit very hard when he runs away from you. But he does hit hard if he doesnt, anyway took him down with less than 1 bubble of life taken away. Instill doubt, know it, love it, learn it.

well needless to say he made this 45th level druid run I have 200wis and am speclized in evoc at a skill of 165 got him down to about 30-40%health evry fire spell hit for max and he only resested one snare this is what I did
ensanre ro's fiery then clarification(sp) landed for 444 then firestrike landed for 302 but didnt have the mana pool to finish =/

Man I love Slate. Some of the best experience comes off this evil mob. He's blue to a 54 so he's good till 55 at least.

I'm a 45 druid on Bristlebane. All the times he has KS'd me and stuff like that, I saw he was blue to me on track. I figured I would kick his *** for revenge. He resisted a total of ONE snare spell, and ONE root spell. Everything else stuck. Simple, with ES vambs, just root DoT'd him. Took like 5 minutes. This guy is a cakewalk.

no... NO this can't be right. I SOO am going to kill this *******. There is something not right about the way Slate works. I MADE SURE specifically he was NOT there when I took on another guard, but YUP from out of nowhere, who is it?? SLATE!! I died again. I am SO going to kill this ******* over and over again when I get a higher level capable of killing him. Not even worrying about XP, I am just going to kill him. Again, and again. I hate Slate.

Slate's aggro range is mediocre. You pretty much need to spit in his face to get his attention. Unless of course you're killing another guard. Slate has a notoriously large reaction range. I think he responds from about a fifth of EC away.

i myself am a lv 34 druid and with a 33 wizzy we were only able to get him down to around 50% health before we were both oom. snare miraculously stuck on the second try but root is almost useless as it is either resisted or wears off after about 10 seconds. if any druids on 7th hammer want to solo him send me a tell so i can watch you die...

i myself use a 34 druid and i took him down use snare and immolate and drones of doom he only managed to resist immolate once before i stuck it took a bit of kiting but i wore him down he dropped a fs longsword and 4pp and change

Im a 53rd season Druid with 2nd floor hate gear blah blah blah.....and let me tell you he still resists my spells No were near as often as before but I need a pair of earthen boots for the stuff all over the floor here....
Ok the point.
He dropped a new item It was a no rent scroll/book looked like a scorll but read like a book. anyone know what's up with it? I do like the gnome monk :) hehe...

lvl 40 Druid here with 199 wisdom.
Took 3 casts of snare before it would take.
Root was useless to even attempt.
So i would dot and run.
After about 3 minutes of this and almost oom
I had to bail. Just didnt have the mana pool!
Left him with about 30 percent health, so wont be long and I will be able to take him.
