Dont really get the chest upon killing him, u get it for completing the misison, can do them any order u want. Got a drop today with 4 people, lvl 67, 67, 68 and 69:

There is now an instanced version of unrest. Not sure the level that you need to be to aquire the task. There is an NPC near Greater Faydark. After talking with them you get an instance. anyhow--once you kill this guy in the instance a chest pops. Chest has random loot. First time my group did it, it had a priest/caster back with 2mana regen.
He was yellow at 70
Second go through it dropped:

Starting this quest zones you into a special instanced version of Unrest laballed The Mansion of Unrest:The Curse Begins.
Starter NPC is in Butcherblock Mountains Name of Savil Tranquilsong, a high elf in white robe located just N.East of the LDoN Wayfarer Camp, near the GFay ZL.
Follow thru the dialogue with a group average level from 55-70 or simply tell him "I am willing".
After the promted text is spoken a "Savil's Wand" item appears on your cursor. It is Magic, Lore, Notrade and has one charge of "Savil's Time Portal" (cast time 10.0) which ports your group back to Butcherblock, once you have completed the mission.
Will have to post factual data from eqlog in a bit, but rundown of quest checklist looks somethin like this.
1. Zone into Dagnor's Cauldron 2. Speak with Savil's Assistant (green cursor appears like in DoN missions-leading to assistant a female high elf on the island in middle of DC) 3. Travel thru time to Unrest Mansion instance (hail assistant and say "I am ready") 4. Stop Garanel Rucksif from killing the priest of Quellious (it is part of the storyline, you cannot stop the kill from occurring-simply wait at the zone in until the zonewide shouts take place indicating that Garanel has killed him).* 5. Loot XX [Bauble/ToVK looking item - name?] off the creatures at the Gazebo (3 mobs at gazebo) 6. Loot Book of Knowledge off the creatures upstairs in the mansion (think the tower where Undead Knight normally spawns) 7. Kill Garanel Rucksif 8. Loot XX [dead priest's necklace item - name?] from Garanel's corpse* *quest is actucally completed after looting Garanel, but you can get a little extra xp by returning the 3 quest items to Savil in Butcherblock 9. (Optional) Return to Savlil in Butcherblock 10. (Optional) Give Savil the 3 quest items
*note several NPC humans labelled as followers of Quellious (lt blue to 68) are roaming around before and up until the killing of the priest zonewide shout. We didn't attack any of them, and they were indifferent to our Necro (the only evil char we had). Don't think you are supposed to kill any of them, and not sure if you are penalized if you do :).
Pretty simple and easy quest for nice xp at 68 (got about 12-15% actual xp from one run thru), but need a good group, some form of CC for adds, healer, slower and a good puller, as the yard hosts a load of roaming mobs all conning from Dblue to yellow (lvl varies according to average of group).
Group consisted of 68PAL, 65PAL, 70DRU, 70NEC, 65SHM, 65ROG (group ave lv67). Single pull as much as poss, ALWAYS pull to a wall to avoid adds. We had nice DPS with the necro and pallies, but the adds can be a pain (they were immune to our necro's slow and mezz).
Garanel Rucksif conned red to 68 (ie: >lv70), and dropped like a sack of potatoes. Think he hit alot in the 2-500s and maxxed somewhere from 8-900s with 1800AC and basic defensives at 68. Didnt even have to waste Defensive disc on him, he dropped so fast. Estimate his HPs somewhere around 55-60k(hit him for 2% with 1100DD), pretty weak for a 71+ mob. DPS him down ftw.
Chest pops immediately upon killing him, and ours also contained the FT2 "Cloak of the Fallen Priest" listed in posts below. E-mailing pic of the clock to alla along with this post. It was nice of SoE to give some kinda high end undead back to the Knights, Clerics and Necros :)
From the front door of the estate go in and take the left hallway. The second room on the left wall in that hallway will have a wall that looks like a bookshelf that you can click on to open(like a normal door). After that follow the left wall and you will eventualy walk through a fake wall. After that you'll come to a room with a lava pit, make sure to walk through the lava as it is safe and the ground on either side is actually a pit trap. after that, take the first right and you'll wind up in the room where he spawns. Its pretty much just a small cube overlooking the pit. Hope that helps.
About as far back as you can go into the basement. There's a big pit with terrors and hags at the bottom, and at the top on the right is a room where this guy spawns.
Ok so last night was the patch to recon the fabled guys. We found the fabled and he conned dark blue to a 58 bard and light blue to a 65 ranger. He was hitting use for between 80-190hps, but consider our lvls. Under 55 you better expect 200+ hits. Dropped the complete list of loot including fabled boots.
Ugh... Instead of the regular Garanel Rucksif there was "The Fabled Garanel Rucksif" here... who btw hit my level 49 Beastlord pet for 248-285... I had to run! How humiliating! Ogres DON'T run! He conned light blue to me, and I got him to 97% before I ran :P
Don't know if he had something to do with EverQuest's 5th birthday... but I hope he's gone next time I visit Unrest.
To spare me from further humiliation I'll just leave out my name :P
Fabled is gone now. He was light blue to me at 61, but still tough to solo... however, once I got him slowed, he was no more problem than a normal unslowed light blue mob.
Killed him 6 times recently while killing some time (he was dark blue at 45) with my pally. He dropped the dwarf work boots twice, ring 5 times, axe and kite shield every time, topaz once. He is definitely a warrior was he kicks and bashes in addition to axe swings. He hits quite often for 30s damage and occasionally as high as 80. Fairly easy kill for pally with spirit of nife and ghoulbane hits along with undead damage spell. Warning, it is a good idea to root him, as he will run if under 2o% and his path takes him down into pit and then up along path back to entrance and you will pick up a small train unless you have kept it cleaned out - at my level most were green but some hags and tent. terrors were light blue (even a couple of green hags casting while you chase him down will cut into your hp). You will either get him or hag every 20 minutes in corner - seems streaky as i got him to pop 3 times in a row.
For Pallies and Clerics Garn is pretty easy. He does not nuke, is easily rootable, and the Nife procs/spells work on him. A Festering Hag is his PH and he pops about 50 percent of the time on a 22 minute cycle (found it to be streaky). I probably brought him down solo or with another Pally friend about 50 times with my Pally which was in his low/mid 40s. A couple of Pallies and a cleric or druid in their upper 30s can earn great exp and decent loot working Garns room back to the torture room. Once you break that area, its pretty easy to keep clear.

Sorry bro this dude is a warrior. Warriors dont nuke. your thinking of Torklar Battlehammer(another undead dwarf in this zone) He nukes like a **** He killed my when he coned blue at lvl 27!
Might just be me but, the last 100 times i killed him, he was a warrior. warriors dont nuke. U are prolly thinking of that gnome necro upstairs, or the festering hags that surround him :D

Me and my Lvl 44 Shadow Knight friend took him down easily. We were killing him for his boots and his ring for the SK. For his boots, he was wearing Boots of Brawn...and for an easy kill, Dwarven Work Boots would be a HUGE upgrade.
Boots of Brawn MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM Slot: FEET AC: 8 STR: +9 DEX: -13 WT: 6.5 Size: MEDIUM Class: WAR CLR PAL RNG SHD BRD ROG SHM Race: ALL
Dwarven Work Boots MAGIC ITEM Slot: FEET AC: 8 STR: +3 DEX: +5 WT: 5.0 Size: MEDIUM Class: WAR CLR PAL RNG SHD DRU MNK BRD ROG SHM Race: ALL
He was losing 6 STR, but gaining 18 DEX. Anyways, when we grouped my STR buff would put him at 255 anyway. So, he gave the old Boots he was wearing and the ring that dropped to his Rogue. In about a week I won Blood Ember Boots in KC so I gave those boots to him.
Niolen Silvertree Druid of the 52nd season Worshipper of Tunare Player on Mithaniel Marr http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=759043
me and my group were standing in the courtyard one day and this 36 lvl druid was pulling stuff for us anyway the druid went in the basement and he asked me to come with him so i put invis vs undead up and i went in the basement when we turne around the corner a ghost named garanel ruksif popped and my invis wore off so i was runnung to my group when i got there they thought we could take it so my friend tried to root it but it resisted it so my friend was pounded on and he just mopped the floor with us just in a snap it wasnt even funny so that prooves he is strong
Last night, my group (30 paladin [me], 33 paladin, 34 wizard, 37 cleric) took down Garanel pretty easily. In fact, when the tentecle aggroed with Garanel, the other pally took the tentacle, I took on Garanel (mostly to keep him off of the wizard). Not too hard, niether I or the other pally were in danger at any times, thanks to a seasoned cleric. Oh, I dinged 31 during the fight. w00t!
I solo this mob at 40 and still soloing I dinged 43 on a light blue skelly in the hall (woot) I clear the basement one by w\one and work my way down to his level.. once there I stun the general and run to the zone.. At the zone i can waste him and the 1 or 2 terrors that come down. good exp for pulling. Last night i had 2 generals in a roll drop the dwarven work boots .. I know the spawn is every 20 minutes and a hag is its place holder.. Good luck fight smart.
Dorbis Kroechbyter 43rd season pally with the house of the Veeshans Disciples
I believe the hammer you are speaking of is off Tokklar Battlemaster. He looks quite similar to this guy but is found in the back corner of the castle on the first floor. I do not have any idea what it is for tho
I discovered that the denizens of unrest like wolves. Depending on how much time you have spent there, you can be turned to a wolf by a druid of level 39 or higher, and then walk into the basement without aggro.
If you have spent a lot of time there and maxed a faction, that doesn't show up when you kill something there, you can do what I did. I had my 46 druid wolf up, go in, snare, and pull him out.
I used the same strategy to get components for the Goulbane sword (for pally epic) <Crazed Gouls> and the Incandescent wand (AE stun item for enchanters)<Dusty Werebat>

i was just wondering what does this guy hit for?? i am a 36 gnome war and i was wondering if i could take him i dont think so mostly cause i cant take anything like 1 or 2 lvls below me but i was just wondering cause i want those boots...
I was in Unrest one day with a guildmate, and this guy came through, with some Skeleton thing, and one other add, and killed everyone who didn't make it to the zone, a lot of 20+ because most people had surnames. The gang took out 15 or more people, it was nuts, from just three Mobs. He might have killed more, I was just moving through the front area, not going around the hedge maze.
On Bertoxx my guild has raided this place 4 times. At one point we had two groups, one was all levels 30 to 35, and the other was levels 25 to 29. We cleared the first floor, headed up stairs to the balcony and pulled the whole second floor. Stayed on the balcony for about two hours jsut pulling and killing, then went down to the basement, fought our way in, and set up shop. From that point on we owned everything below the second floor.
A few of the fights were close, and we had one death, but on the whole it was a lot of fun. Besides, the paladins love that ghoulbane proc, it makes 'em happy.
