Best loot in the zone
# Jul 29 2001 at 9:47 AM Rating: Default
I've spent about the last 2 weeks in SK, and I wish I'd graduated from chickens to gnolls earlier! The loot is far better, with about half of them giving up 2-4pp each, and a variety of fine steel weapons being dropped on a regular basis. I was there last night for maybe 2 days norrath time, and everyone I was grouped with ended up with at least 2 FS weapons, and a handful of gnoll hide whips, along with the regular split paw gloves and ambers etc.

They seem to be too tough for their level and give rotten exp. Hit moderatly, but have alot of hp and resist alot. I'd say skip this and go to KFC... mmm friend chicken... there's where the exp is.

As an actual tip...
I've found that the best exp in SK, short of PLing, is at KFC (Aviaks). I was with my buddy since he was 19 and I was 21. He's 21 (rogue) and I'm 23 (druid). Just stick to one melee, one healing. Cleric would work just as well as druid here, I wasn't nuking or anything, just healing. So, partners, not groups!

This guy is nuts. TM Gnolls are a low level 20's dream. I went from 22 to 24 in a days playin time. They spawn often enough, and have very defined camp spots. They don't even run for help, just around in circles. Plus the loot from these gnolls are bomb. Note to other monks: Find a Sham and have him make you 2 or 3 spirit bags, there is no sense is missing out on the FS weapons. The Paw is also a great spot to camp. It is even faster kills and great exp, just have a mid/high 20's group with enough diversity to keep 'em comming. Good Luck.

Are you crazy??? KFC is nothing compared to the gnolls. The gnolls give great loot for 20's. They give great exp both for leveling and for learning how to group with people and fill your role in the group. KFC is weak exp, Avo's get in the way, garbage loot, and no challenge. I suggest everyone get to gnolls around 23 and get in paw around 25-26. Infected Paw is wonderful exp up to around 30.

# Jul 30 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
ok the non rolled up (non lore) skins are junk. you dont need them for anything so just destroy them. the rolled ones however are useful. you need to collect all 4 for a quest. to see which one you have right click to read it and on the first line you will see a number. the rest of the note is illegible but the number tells you what scroll you have 1-4. once you have all 4 scrolls look up the gem inlaid gauntlet quest and it will tell you what to do. basically a bit of running around but the scrolls are the hard part. as for the split paw....its just junk also. dance of the fireflies is just a lightstone and the paw is worth a few cp. you'll also get a preserved split paw eye quite often. just discard or destroy these because they're basically useless. happy gnoll hunting.
RE: tanned skins, and a SP
# Nov 20 2001 at 1:10 AM Rating: Good
Before you destroy the preserved eye, if your ranged slot is empty put one in it. Though it is not much it does give a save versus disease or poison. Granted not much but you can always destroy it when you find something else to put in that empty range slot.

whats with the druid bashing?
# Jun 13 2001 at 6:10 PM Rating: Default
What i want to know is were did all this druid bashing come from?....i mean these post are supposed to be about gnolls not bashing us druids...and, i know that at 29 most druids port o make money so they won't offer for free...not becuase they are being asses its just they need the money...and after doing all that porting for money you get tired of porting..or u have enuogh money you can spare a tp out of your owm kindness...i've gotten MANY tp's for my non-druid chars for free....so most druids will port for free enless they need money
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 29 2001 at 3:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes, it costs 300 mana (a whole blue bub at 29) to port. And no one who is trying to sell in EC ports for free, they are, after all, trying to make MONEY. Might miss a possible buyer too. So quit complaining, if you want to port all the time, play a druid or wiz. If you want sow on you all the time, play a shammy or druid. That simple, quit complaining about other people not giving you this and not giving you that. Earn it for crying out loud, those ports broke me at 29, and I don't have the cash to get my USEFUL spells!
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 13 2001 at 9:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Now, this has nothing to do with gnolls but it has to do with wizzies and druids TPing. I play as a shamy, and I could never understand why a wiz or druid could never port me to some place for free when they're auctioning items in like Gfay or EC. Wastes too much mana you say? It doenst take mana to auction items or to sit down lol. I will pay when they're in a dungeon like LGuk when they need the mana to fight.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 26 2001 at 6:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If I'm not actively engaged, or just about to port somewhere myself, I'll gladly let people hop on for a lift. If I'm short on cash, I'll port for a while for money.

I have to say, even though they are over camped, these lil' gnolls are rich in XP. At 22/23 I got very nice xp from these suckers. I got from 22 to 24 in about a 3 days, with only about 7 hours on average each day! These are very good for druids. In my opinion they are druid mis-cons =). The only problem is that the higher cons give you trouble, usually I had a friend nearby to run to just incase I was overwhelmed, but we were both solo and helped each other incase ;). But overall, these things rock to kite. Go get 'em my lil druid buddys!

You spent 21 hours to get to get from 22 to 24? Ouch. I got from 23-25 in 1 days work of < 7 hours fighting giants out there in Kunark. Did a bit of running for spells during that time too. Well, I had a partner or two for tanks maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the time. They were twinked, but without the fungi tunic. I'm thinking I'll go to the splitpaw lair after I check out Frontier Mountains. Heard its way underconned (mid 20s giants can take out low 30s tanks np) and giants are all SoW speed. Good thing for wolf form (faster than SoW). =) Maybe I'll pick up a forest loop while I'm there.

well, last weekend i was wondering around in SK. Saw the Spires with the TM Gnolls. They conn dark blue to my 32 mage so tryed a couple of them. Wow they gave me almost a halve bub blue. Yep stayed there a couple of hours and after a gnoll or 50 i lvled to 33 and they still conn dark blue. I stay here till lvl 34! By then i probably can't stand the look of them anymore, it's really getting boring... I want to try the monster summoning bad... That's the reason i stay here till 34. Exp for lvl 33 is decent, also the loot. Made about 300pp in about 3hrs...

I was only duel wielding the ssom and a crystalized shadow long sword. Wasn't hitting for much, but druids do have weak spots, mainly when they are oom and forgot to keep their 1hs or 1hb up, and when the ranger has ran is lil butt around making the druid waste his mana, the ranger goes in for the kill with no worries, primarily what is the druid going to do when he totally sucks at melee??????? Of course, he's gonna die!!!! But that's just my exp. on the matter, and i could see that he was really trying, but me sitting around letting him waste his mana while i'm sitting there healing myself wasn't doing him any good, then when i relized he was medding, GO GO RANGER SLASHING!!!!

Since you are apparently wondering how bards kite, there are 3 main methods to kiting.

First, there is the traditional "kiting" method. This method includes simply selecting a mob, pull with Bellow and twist in Selo's. There are, of course, variations on this method. If the bard is level 23+ he or she can twist in their snare song instead of Selo's. At level 30, they can twist Selo's or Snare, Bellow, and Curtailing Chant (the first single target DoT for bards).

Second, there is the Fear/Chain method. Basically, the bard uses weapons (if solo) or instruments (if partnered) and twists snare and fear. This strategy is especially effective when partnered with a rogue (backstab). I have not noticed much of a difference between using an instrument to fear and singing it while wielding weapons; however, the higher the brass skill is when fearing, the less likely you will be to miss notes even when singing it.

Third, there is the Charm kite. This is a favorite of many bards after level 30. Basically, the bard just chooses a target that is black to shallow red, charms it, and sends it after another mob of the same level. Keep Selo's or SoW up as charm can wear off unexpectedly. If you come to the point of having to choose between keeping the mob charmed and keeping up Selo's, keep up selo's.
NOTE: Before level 30, charm will stick quite rarely or wear off very quickly. The use of the charm song is not advisable except to taunt off a heavy caster that is getting pounded.
Quit whining about Druids
# Mar 22 2001 at 11:17 AM Rating: Decent
Why is it that everyone whines at druids because:
a) we won't give free sow to every single person that wants one.
b) we won't give free TPs to every single person that wants one.

Guess what? everytime I sow or TP you, I get to sit on my *** for some period of time, waiting for my mana to regen. Especially group ports COST! That's my personal time you are taking up, and you aren't even willing to compensate me???

It doesn't matter if the port is to BB or Iceclad, the cost is high!

No matter how you look at it, mana is NOT free. It costs my time. Not my characters, me, the player. And my time is just as valuable as yours. So if you don't want to ride the damn boat you can bloody well pay for my time!

And I'm sorry if every druid won't stop what they are doing (probably trying to have some fun playing the game) in order to port you when you feel like being ported. So what if you are offering twice the going rate? Maybe they aren't interested right then. Why do you think they owe you port exactly?

And btw, two more things. Nobody seems to mind paying clerics for rezzes, and also, I give free sow's for corpse runs almost always, as do most SoW enabled classes!

#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 08 2001 at 1:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Since I don't have port spells yet (still an impatient 28th druid) I can only comment on SoW. I give free SoWs to people for CR and also to newbie Wood Elves whenever I'm in Kelethin - what can I say, I'm partial to my own kind. Otherwise, I ask for a donation. True, SoW is not that much mana, but since druids don't melee well, I need all the mana I can get and have to spend time medding after casting SoW (especially since one person asks for it, 5 others see you cast it and all of a sudden they need it too). I've accepted everything from Clarity to 10pp to a snake fang as a donation. My only pet peeve is when people send me tells from across the zone and expect me to stop what I'm doing and meet them somewhere. Sorry, but if you need a buff you should go to where the buff-giver is, not vice versa. I also get annoyed when someone asks for SoW, I give it to them and then they say "No buffs?" like I should mana dump on them. And as for druids getting SoW, Wolf Form AND ports, remember that we are still 2nd best at everything. Bards can make you run faster, Shamans buff better, Clerics heal better, Necros DoT better, Mages DD better, and Wizzies can translocate. If you still think we get too much stuff, make a druid. You'll get it too. :)

Poison Resistance

These things have a high resistance to Rogue Poison. They resisted my manufactured poisons most of the time. They also resist my Stilletto of the Bloodclaw. I have also noticed that if they have any splitpaw loot, which grants a poison resistance bonus, NONE of the poisons I make can affect them at all, nor does the Stilletto proc work.

# Nov 15 2000 at 11:20 AM Rating: Good
I didn't discover these guys till level 33 or so (I'm a druid) but rather than kite them and use a whole heap of mana I fully buffed, damage shielded myself, snared, double DoTted and then melee'd them.
I've kept my melee skills up all along, this is a good place to work on them, with the advantage that rather than use a whole bunch of mana you share the loss between mana and HPs, meaning less downtime, especially once you hit 34 and get regen :). Your DoTs also do more damage if the mob isn't chasing after you.
Also good to multi-kite the grouped runners after 34, using lightning strike - snare them all, melee for a few seconds to get them nicely grouped up again then kite away :)

Good Post...

balancing mana and hp loss to minimize downtime is the sign of a great player... (Except for wizzie, which is barely worth meleeing with when creatures has broke..)

Which is why i decided to switch to druid myself. even against yellows a damage shield along with keeping up your regular buffs and one or two dots then melee lets you get 2 or 3 fights out of the same amount of time

Obviously you have very low self esteem. Acting as a 'brat' yourself and labeling yourself a brathater. For all you folks that seem to think druids have it far too easy please consider the end game roles they must play. Though I have yet to play a druid, and I shall someday, I haven't yet met a real high level druid. I am sure there are some that have perservered and gotten into the 50's and maybe there are even some 60's, but I imagine it is quite difficult having to assume the role of being a DoT. They will never be real tanks, healers, or even the best of buffers at high levels. I am sure they have a particular role to play at end game, just as the cleric, shaman, and warrior, but it assuredly is not as glamorous as it was when they were able to kite and do so very well in their younger years. Besides I love druids!

#Anonymous, Posted: May 06 2001 at 1:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have to agree, I have never grouped with a druid that had something they could do besides heal and give sow. What else can they do? Without Snare they are just pathedic! Then druids think they are being missed treated! The other day a druided wanted to port me for 40pp! I said "***** you" and got a guildie to port free. As a ranger, I sow anyone that ask...if someone even looks at me for more then 10 seconds I sow them because they probably just type slow. I don't think any class in the game should be able to kite. The game is meant for grouping and no one class should get to reach lvl 40 without grouping! I think druids should have less DD or DoT's, or should just be taken out of the game.

Sure...removing druids from EQ should definitely make it a better game...and stop the whining.

The whole point of druids is that they're not like most of the other classes. They solo very effectively but have no place in high-level groups. And how does it affect you that Druids can kite? Druids can't melee so kiting is one of the few choices available to them. I think it's great that there are multiple strategies for killing MOBs, rather than just tank+healer.

BTW, I'm not defending myself here because I've never even played a Druid. But as a Shaman I can feel some of their pain :-)

There are static single spawns next to each spire, runners in pairs and threes that go across the spire area, and wanderers in the general spire area/hills. Ppl like to camp the static spire spawns and the hill to the North, the runners are pretty much FFA once they get past the spires, and KSing / spawn stealing is absolutely RIFE (at least on CT) so beware. These things also drop A Split Paw, has charges of Dance of Fireflies. The gnolls hit pretty hard (double for 50+) and the higher level ones resist a lot. If you can't kite, get in a group!
