I like to call them Pumamen since I saw that one episode of MST3K...but anyway, I'm a lvl 6 mage and they still kick the crap out of me. I run like a ***** to the EC tunnel everytime I get attacked like one. Not very honorable High Elf behavior! Their loot isn't that great either, the pelts don't go for a whole lot.
....BWAHAHAHA Thanks for the image now I'll be stuck with it whenever I go against one. However I do hear someone WTBing them for a few plat every now and again which isn't that bad if your just out whacking cats and pick up a pelt of two.
If you are a enchanter (like me) and got charm, charm one of these, and start soloing crocs or whatever, and you can command these to, they can be great pet kittys, also this made me really mad, a SG had come ad killed my precious kitty in one hit, I had got so mad, that I casted Sanity Warp on him, adnd he didn't resist!!! But lol it only hit for 1DMG, I was lucky and had sow on, and zoned, hehe, =) jus saying my 2cents...
Have no real problem at lvl 5, as long as pet has a rusty 2hander. Shield yourself, Earth pet attcks & roots, nuke 3-4 times with Burn, then tank. I usually hit for 6-13 points, and a good pet hits for 10-21 with the 2HD. As long as nothing else comes along, both my pet & I usually survive. Oh, NRo hunting area...

The guys are nice because they drop cat pelts which are important in crafting meduim sized tailored armor. Not too tough to kill although druids may be surprised when these guys attack since we druids are unaccostomed to being attacked by animals.
the pumas are ez in east common. as a lvl13 warrior i can take 3 or 4 at a time w/o buffs or help (the only troube is findin 4 at a time to fight since they get killed so fast :P)
I agree with the 6-10 rating here. I have encountered two of these guys in EC. The first one I handled with very little trouble but the second one nearly took me out. I am Lvl 6 Pal but have brass chest plate and a sheild and a decent fast sword and am trained to max at one hand slash. Had to lay hands on myself to keep from dying against the second Puma so I am sure he was at least Lvl 8.
In north ro, i accidently pulled 3 (instead of 1) dervishes. While running for my life a puma joined the train. Instead of attacking me it started attacking the dervishes, killing one and doing enough damage to the other two so I could finish them off. Is it possible to have good faction with pumas?
it may not be a case of the puma liking you, but of the puma hating the dervishes more. npcs do have faction ratings for each other and will occasionally attck one another. please note that you shouldnt count on it happening too often
One day out of boredom I created a lvl 1 human rogue and decided to run all the way through the Desert of Ro for no reason. In Oasis I conned the pumas, they were not threateningly as they usually are. In South Ro, I ran through the gypsy camp, thinking the puma would not aggro on me...but it did. Maybe it was just a wrong con in Oasis or something. Well, you know the rest of the story :P
My gnome magician grew up in Steamfont. Up until level 8, the pumas were death, since he was using level 4 spells and a level 4 pet. At level 8, with upgrades to the DD spells and the pet, the pumas became possible. I still kill them, remembering my poor young mage.
I agree, at level 6 I was attacked by one and stood no chance whatsoever. Now I hunt them in the east commons, at level 6, and I could kill them easily. In steamfont, they attack quicker, and a little harder.
Pumas are kinda the main tailor pelt provider. They give ruined pelts and medium quality pelts too. Which is very important for tailors that needs to get their skill up (studded armor). And of course, with the ol' chunck of meat along...
