Just to update info....been soloing gargs since lv16...Mage. Great exp and eyes sell for good pp. Have died twice from add...can't handle two yet. Just went 17 and will stay here for awhile.
If you spend enough time on this island you can learn it as I have. Clear the island of the skelly's, they will fight the gargoyles if the roam into each others aggro range.
Greater Skeletons are PH's for the Gargoyles. I used to Porcupine kill these with my druid, and kite them around when I was LOM or close to death.
Try to keep one or two Gargoyle up on the island at all times, regardless of how boring the spawn time may be, if the Garg's are up, the chance of Skelly's respawning is lower. Garg's do hit kinda hard if you are here for exp, and watch out because everything on the island roams.
There are a few safe spots on the island, however one worked best for me. There is a small rock that juts out with a tree on it. If you sit and meditate, or rest on that spot you are safe from the roamers adding.
I recommend Casters binding on the island, and bring plenty of bat wings for levitate. That way you can run to Sister Island, sell your loots and gate back. But remember if you are gonna die, get away from your spawn spot.
Also avoid the middle of the island where the Spectres are. Sometimes you will find quad kiters on the island taking em out, and they may be kind enough to let you loot thier Fine Steel Weapons.
Well this evening I killed about 20 of them... and not a drop on any of them? is the drop rate of the eyes changed? Also there didnt seem to be too many up, is there a limited # of spawns? Are the Skellys place holders?... Any other info you can add would be greatly apprecited.
The eyes are slightly rare drops (about 1 in 4 drop them), but you can get up to 2 eyes from each Gargoyle. They are worth 8.5pp to a kindly merchant. In one night (and 1 lvl) my 25 monk got 26 of these, making a total of 211pp in one night, pretty good for a non - twink monk.

Oh, that's right...these worthless creatures kept aggroing on me instead of my pet! That was terrible advice...I'd keep telling my pet to taunt, and the gargoyle would still attack me. Thanks for the exp deaths that I got over and over...I think I killed one of these of every death. If you're in OoT, just go for Aviaks. Avoid gargoyles like the plague if you're a mage.
Without any problems, at level 17 my DE necro was getting crazy XP killing these. Well I'm a bit twinked with 189 INT :) But still. Good loot too. Stayed there till 21.
Ok, first of all, you can see the boat from this island but you can not see sisters island, so you don't have a chance to really catch up to the boat unless you swimming is like 200 and you have a lvl 60 druid's sow on, and second of all, you can't zone while you are swimming, so you can't swim all the way to FP, you have to either gate into FP is bound in there, get a port to WC and run to FP, or take the slow slow boat.
Actually you can zone while swimming. I regularly swim (and zone while swimming) from the fishing village in NRo to the docks in Oasis. I only do it to work on my swimming skill as it represents a fair distance and land close at hand if things go wrong. There is a crease on the ocean floor that I follow. I have found (the hard way) you die VERY quickly when drowning.
That being said, I have not tried to swim from Sister Isle back to Freeport and would not even consider it unless my character's skill was very high (150+), I had a lot of food and drink, and I didn't want to ride the boat all the way to BB and back to Freeport.
Zones that a boat is supposed to take you across, you can't zone by swiming. Try takeing the boat from FV to BB, when you first zone from fv into tim deep, if your at the front of the boat, you can't get to the back of the boat, the zone line is half way through the boat.
I am a lvl 32 mage I killed misty storysomethingorother until 16. I then hunted the sirens in the oot till 17. I started soloing these things at 17 with no problem as long as you use an earth pet w/ burn out and pull the mob to the shore of the island so you wont attract anymore gargs. Anyways they are suppose to give factions with bards but so far i have found this statement to be un true. I am still kos by bards and this doesnt seem to be able to help any. Bind yourself to the island near the garg island and gate if you are in trouble. You should be able to camp by the time the gargs are off your pet. I didnt die once using this method. If you are a mage i would take these things to 21 or so. Great $$ and decent exp. WELL WORTH IT
I was able to solo one of these at level 15 as a barb shammy. More than likely I got one of the lower level ones, but I was still able to pull it off. Mostly rooting and casting SOW so that i could blow time regenerating my life. Once he got to about 1/3 life I unloaded the spirit strike (that right?) for 75 dmg a pop, just enough to send him packing... and followed him around the side of the mountain hitting him from behind. Again I got lucky to not aggro any other mobs while he was running. Got a garg eye and almost took a dump when I saw how much it sold for. I will definitely go back but not until I get my level 19 spells and the xp/time is worth it. BTW this took me 40 minutes to kill. How common are the eyes to drop?
Gargs are great for high teens and low twenties... I was able to solo starting at 17, by 19 they weren't much problem. Although, I died a few times, the cash i made was worth it. Root worked really well most of the time, and then I cast DD at them until it wore off. By the time I would get into striking distance, they were usually more than 3/4 dead. Sometimes, not too often, I could kill them before they hit me even once. Not bad for a Cleric that is not supposed to be able to solo... :) Happy hunting
I loved this island when I was in my lower twenties. I would come either with a shammy friend or enchanter friend. If you have good faction with the sisters on nearby island you can sell the gargoyle eyes for up to 9.5pp each. That is great loot.
The downside are the spectres at the top of the hill. Be sure when pulling gargoyles you don't aggro them.
There are also lots of skellies roaming around who will agro you if you sit to med, so make sure you keep an eye out for those annoying buggers.
I went here as recently as lvl 27. I still got exp from some high greens. Definitely worth the trip.

hi im a lvl 24 bard on lanys and i came here along with a 21 necro when i was lvl 20 he didnt really seem to need me much but im glad he didnt say so ) im soon embarking on lambent quests and need money to do so if i can solo them i have 2 magic weaps (berserkers sword and bbk) is there any special songs or way to do it or just plain bashin? any help would be greatly appreciated :) Ginweil Songweaver level 24 bard
My suggestion would be, depending on how many songs you can twist, Johnathan's Whistling Warsong and Hymn of Restoration. If you can twist 3, Johnathan's, Hymn, and Selo's Consonant Chain. You'll want to stay away from AE songs, even though they can do more damage, because of the distinct possiblity of attracting more gargs.
i would like to know how to kill these with a druid becuase i can solo blues and blacks here fine but the yellows and some blacks kill me stratgy please
Unless something has changed in the time since I spent time here hunting gargs (about a year ago), the level range is more like 17-21, not the 18-19 listed above.
Do the gargoyles hit hard? Lvl 19 Cleric planning on making a trip out there. Are they undead? or summoned? or just plain old creatures (need to know what spells to use) Thanks for the info/tips welcome!!!
Depending on the level of the gargoyle, their max damage is anywhere from 36 to 44. Basically normal damage for their level (2 times level plus 2).
>Are they undead? or summoned?
They aren't undead, but they might be summoned. I don't remember using any anti-summoned spells with my mage, but that could be because by the time I came here (level 20), I had better damage/mana spells than Ward Summoned.
I suggest that you hunt gargoyles only after reaching level 20. Although it is certainly doable before then, it is very risky. Fighting gargoyles requires a stand-up fight (no fear kiting) due to risk of training spectres or another gargoyle into the fight. As such, it is dangerous and simply not worth the long corpse recovery trip.
Bind and take the boat from East Freeport, stay away from Sister Island, the first spot, and right after the boat passes Sister Island, jump out and swim due south to Gargoyle or Death Island. There are two very nice medding spots on the Island which are "safe". The first is a small spot that juts out of the island on the due south coast. The second is the small peninsula on the west coast with a few small trees. Both spots are safe for medding. There are 3 MOBs, skeletons, gargoyles and spectres. Skeletons are place holders for gargoyles. Your goal is to keep the island gargoyle population around 2-3. The key to a good camp is to balance the number of skeletons and gargoyles.
Skeletons and gargoyles fight each other. Gargoyles always win this fight. Your goal is to keep the island skeleton population down so that gargoyles will spawn. If you kill too many gargoyles, the skeleton population shoots up and you have to spend a lot of time killing skeletons to get gargoyles to spawn.
Gargoyles hit hard and you need to control their aggro on you. Dying here is very time consuming and makes for a long CR. I don't recommend fear kiting, the gargoyles have a chance of pathing to the Spectres on the top of the island. They also may pull another Gargoyle into the picture. I suggest single or double DOTting, medding, meleeing, and then lifetapping back the damage. You must get in and melee to ease the load on your pet. It is an extremely good way to keep your defense skills up. An alternative is to darkness kite them. This also works, depending on how crowded the island is with skeles and gargs. The loot is extremely good. Gargoyle eyes sell for 9p each. Bring plenty of food and water. I have yet to get any bone chips off the skeletons, but tons of rusty weapons. Bring your research concordance book and practice making runes off the rusty/blunt weapons.
This island is very popular with druids who love quad kiting the 4 spectres. When a druid is quad kiting, he runs the 4 spectres all around the island. It makes for a big mess - so be careful again when you pull those gargs and make sure you tell the druid where you will be fighting so he avoids kiting the spectres to you. Most druids I've met on the island are generally going to be happy that you are keeping the island gargoyle spawn down. If he's very nice, he'll give you a bronze scythe for you to equip your pet.
If you are sick of Gargoyle Island, make the swim to Sister Island. If you are brave, you can go after Antineme who is level 22-24 wood elf. She hits very hard (50's) and can easily stun and beat you into oblivion before you can get any spells off. It's kinda risky - I died a few times at level 22.
See above for most of the info. Changes I've noticed. 1)safe spots: NE corner area with 1 tree. also NW corner small rock in water. both very safe. 2)Mages should bind on Sister Island. Its safe. makes for a nicer CR if needed. 3)Forget the boats. invis and swim. Great Exp and loot for levels 20-24, Soloing or Pair up. 4)Talk to high level people in zone. buy the Gt toes they have too.
I went to this island as a level 22 wizard. I had some problem killing my firt gargoyle secondary to some resisted spells. He also broke root at the last minute and moved into aggro range of another gargoyle. The second gargoyle then chased me into the ocean and killed me since I was OOM. Luckily i got off a loc before I died. Got my corpse back and then promptly left this place and haven't been back. SO be careful about the aggro range of these creatures and don't go OOM.
Could a 22 warrior solo these for experience? And would there be any danger in fighting on undead island and swimming there instead of levving and then running?
Yes you can solo them if you have magic weapon, but its not fun and youll need lots of bandages and be sitting on your but alot. try grouping with a healerish class that can also deal out some dmg. a lot more fun and you probably make more $$ since youll be on your feet more. you dont have to worry too much about bumping into more than one at a time since one spawns when you kill three skeletons (although you never know what the last person on the island was doing). So keep that in mind. If you go with good sized group its always good to have one character with sow just killing skeletons to keep the gargs coming. AND STAY OFF THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!!!! There are 4 spectres that are extremely nasty (read as instant death) But they just stay at the top unless you go into there agro range. then they all attack.
What lvl can a Hum Necro kill these guys any tipsand why should i keep one alive ? i keep one alive the whole time while camping one garg or what are they agro if they see one of there kind gettin whooped at ?
you can kill them at 18 if you are VERY careful. yes you wanna keep one alive to take out anything that spawns when u take off to sell those marvolous eyes.
The Gargoyles are quite scarce on the island. The skeletons there are the placeholders, so you should kill any skeletons you see. I usually med by the tree on the hill near the shore because nothing spawns there. They can be soloed by casters at about level 20.
Phreaky Phreaks 21 Dark Elvish Necromancer Veeshan
They have a pattern when walking around (It's a big triangle) just learn to time fights with gargs when the Cylops is on other side of island - then heal/med when it's in your area.
You could solo them, but you'll have to be careful if you do. Wait until you have FM and you pet is healthy. I've been binding myself over by the Guardian of K'Aknon (err whatever), and yeah, the nearest bank is in FP... annoying for me since I'm a DE. Jered Caladine DE Necromancer of the 20th season
