I have been searching for GrimFeather for a while now, off and on. Mostly I stayed near the merchant camp, taking out hill giants and griffons. I read that Grim might spawn in the northeast near the wooden bridge so I was also clearing out mobs around there. But while I was doing that he popped up on track and was south west towards the spire. I know that sometimes a griffon will spawn there. No idea if the regular griffon is a placeholder or not.

GrimFeather dropped the rune of ivy on the first try for me. It took a few hours overall. Good luck to you, Ranger.

Most satisfying revenge for me was charming the Silver Griffin and using it to kick Grimfeather all over NK.

So my level 19 druid was walking up the path from the spires, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, with totally no warning: WHAM!

GrimFeather claws you for 56 points of damage.
GrimFeather claws you for 86 points of damage.

Aw crap, RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY! But it was no use, my druid was quickly killed. GF must've spawned right on top of her, for I didn't see the creature before it started attacking. One day this evil bird shall PAY for its crimes against humanity!

Lots of the old world named have "Fabled" copies that spawn as part of the EQ 5th Anniversary celebration.

The Fabled Grimfeather can double hit for 528 max, and has about 25k hps I'd say as a really rough guess. Other than that, nothing special. Conned blue to a 65. Always drops these Fabled Crafted Vambraces.

I think SOE should bring back the fabled as an ultra rare spawn, with the normal mob the PH, would keep things like campin the kings room in Sol and the FBSS in Guk much more interesting, when you know that every time you kill the king theres a chance that the next spawn will have you running like mad.

PS. SOE let me name my pet via the /petname <insert name here> to name your pet one tme and permanently :)

Safe hunts and rare drops!

He is much faster than SoW. You would have better luck porting out of there. He doesn't outrun SoC (Spirit of Cheetah) but he keeps up with you pretty well. Wolf form (the 2 lower versions anyway) have no affect on his faction. My Druid (kanara worshipper) has always been KoS to him.

I was farming in NK and saw him on track, so I tried Call of Karana on him after Glamour of Tunare and he was mine to kill things with. Yes, I buffed the snot out of him for fun and sent him to tear up Hill Giants and anything with a skin or pelt.
Overkill? Yes. Fun. Absolutely.
Ready to attack?

Easy

ummm Grim was rather easy at 32. wolf form up, ensnare Grim, and keep out of melee range while you stack dots. then just terrorize animal and sit back and med.

i could be wrong but today i tried to snare him with no luck. cant change speed message. but i did however use a regular griffon as a meat sheild and that worked very well i got the kill as charm wore off and old pet was at 20 health ding 2 easy kills.
A pet

Has anyone charmed him with Tunare? If so, how did it go. Thanks.
Warning: May spawn the Siver griffon
# Aug 28 2002 at 2:01 PM Rating: Decent
I was in SK a couple days ago. Grim just took down both guards. I hit him a couple of DOTs before he killed the last guard. He started to fly off, and sent the pet in and myseft. I started to loot him, and heard something fly to me. I just thought it was a griffawn or griffenne. Then I was hit with 400+ dmg. I saw the mean Silver griffon. My pet went in to attack him, I started to run, the griffon was fighting with my pet. Knowing he would kill him very fast I ran my butt off to EK to zone out.

At the same time I killed him, I heard the silver griffon, and was flying right to the body. Maybe he POP went you kill Grim

FWIW, this morning I had them both on track at the same time (SG and Grimfeather) so they can both be up at once.

Both are random spawns have seen 2 grimfeathers up at one time if you want to get either to pop kill griffons.

I've only fought Grimfeather twice. The first time I "fought" him, I was about level 20 and he came out of nowhere are slaughtered me. The second time I fought him, I was level 47. It's one thing to be a kiting class and take him down, but it's quite another to stand toe-to-toe with this griffon and attempt to melee him to death. In my opinion, he was about as tough as a hill giant to kill with melee only. He went down, but it wasn't a cakewalk.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 16 2002 at 1:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol no..I was lvl 39 when i took him on. I did die but he was nowhere NEAR a HG. For one this thing has WAY less hp then an HG. He doesn't even hit as hard as a HG to. It me fer 50's-60's sometimes i would see a hit fer 86 or 89 ya know but nothing like that. Anyways i didn't have sow and i meleed him down to the r in his name but i died. So i am lvl 41 now and i think with my added 11% haste and about another 500hp lol form new upgrades i think i can easly melee this lil hoe
Grimmy
# Jun 22 2002 at 4:22 PM Rating: Decent
He's my *least* favorite winged thing in NK. Normally when I'm med'in in the tower I check track constantly and he pops up.. what sucks is when the HG is in it too.. along with 2 griffons..( I have track sorted by distance ) I watched a guy kill Grimmy like 3 or 4 times within an hour.(He was so nice and let me and my other Ranger Friend have the rune of Ivy, woot) and I was kinda suprised he spawned so stinkin' fast.

Him and the HG always head for the tower. (Most of the time both kill the guards too) I think it's some sick joke for lower levels. That or just to prove you aren't *always* safe around guards, lol.

Question?
# Jun 03 2002 at 7:16 PM Rating: Default
Where in the zone does this guy spawn? Or does he spawn anywhere?
Resists
# May 11 2002 at 2:56 PM Rating: Default
So if a druid and a ranger go after this puppy, and hit him with harmony and then cancel magic, ya think it might make it easier for snare and root spells to stick?
Just a thought.
Soloing GrimFeather
# May 07 2002 at 9:33 AM Rating: Default
I (36 Druid, Untwinked) was looking for Hill Giants in NK when I spotted GrimFeather on track. He coned yellow to me but I was FM and FH with no buffs except Greater Wolf Form. Snare then run screaming like a little girl if it was resisted was the route I decided to take.

The first problem I encountered was that you must follow him until you are close enough to cast Snare so that he is still in range when the spell finishes... and that is too close for comfort.

Lucky old me, the Snare took hold and slowed him down to a mere sprint, he would still outrun and unbuffed character and I took twice as long to get to a safe casting range.

After that it's just the usual DoT run med, DoT run med with the occasional speculative root thrown in for good measure. Root is a great spell if it is not resisted or it holds for more than 10 seconds but I never rely on it.

After a fem minutes he turns and then, sigh of relief, he dies. Not a lot of loot (Eye, feather and rune) and not a huge amount of XP, but HUGE buckets full revenge. Oh, and did that taste GOOD!

A 36 Druid can do him without getting hit with a bit of luck, but to quote the game, It is by no means certain that you will win.

Happy revenge to all that try and kill him.

I also have a 36 druid and took him down without a real problem....i am very twinked (243 wisdom unbuffed) but at the time i had KEI on so that made it a little easier. He resisted my first snare and i had greater wolf form on so i decided to run and try again...bad thing was he was faster than me...so i had to hope for luck for a snare to actually break through and stick. Wouldn't ya know lucky ol' me it stuck and from there it was a cake walk =p.

took me maybe 1 bub of mana only DoT and med..Dot and med (remember i had KEI on). dropped same loot as h always drops but im just letting you know he is solo'able at 36 with a druid..but he did con yellow at the time. suxxor exp compared to quad kiting. have fun!!

Have killed him 2 times now at 35 (ranger). First time was with a chanter friend with all my buffs plus haste. Second time was with just sow. But you don't get hit much when fear kiting ;)
Killed at 35
# Jan 27 2002 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
I managed to kill GrimFeather at lvl 35, solo, with no outside buffs, as an untwinked Human Druid. *Very* borderline thing...

I think he's technically doable by a 34 Druid, if they are very lucky indeed with resists, but at that level my money is still on old Grimfy. =)
My xp with Grim
# Jan 26 2002 at 2:26 AM Rating: Decent
Well, i fought with him 3 times to far. All time he dropped the ivy rune for ranger sleeve, once he dropped the eye. As a ranger, i snared/feared kite it. Even with snare on, it can keep up with you if you don't have sow. I fear it every other time when kick recycled and that kept it feared almost continuously. Quite easy for a 45 Ranger.
He is easy to kill
# Jan 12 2002 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
i a lvl 41 nec was running around NK after being evaced from keal. At full mana and have no pet. I see him and rember all the times i was on my way to paw and heard this guy had killed someone. So think to my self why not i go and make a pet and fear kite this guy with 2 bulbs of mana left and that is after making my pet. he resisted 2 of my spells.
Tough, but can be done.

My 35 cleric, who was only at 60 mana, and a 35 druid at full mana ran across grimfeather in NK. We decide to try and take him, and are doing well pingponging him between us, but I ran out of mana, and he was aggroed on the druid at the moment. We trained him to the bridge guards, but he finished off the druid before the guards finished him. Got a rez for the druid, and brought in reinforcements. With a second druid (lvl 30) and a 31 warrior, we took him on again. He must have popped really soon afte he died, because the druids had him on track by the time we got the rez, and the other two to the zone. Anyway, he dropped pretty easily with 4 of us. Resisted everything from the 30 druid, so she just healed the warrior. Dropped the ivy rune, and some junk, plus about 4 plat cash.
