for thsoe that are not "adept" at using the /loc command.....the Pit Boss Scar can be found in the second mucktail mine, in the second chamber. He has a guard dog on each side that will auto-assist him. However, if you are high enough level, they will not move to attack you. Hope this helps! :)
I've just two boxed this encounter using a cleric and beastlord, both level 28. He has a serious amount of HP for the level. So many, in fact, the doggies started respawning in the time it took me get him down to about 20%. If you want to avoid this happening to you, pull to the passage way. I didn't see any wanderers all the time I was there, and he didn't run so you should be safe.
Took four hours for him to spawn. Twice did Ezzerak the Engineer spawn in place of the Miner at the ent. Pit Boss dropped the usual, Ezzerak the Engineer dropped his Treantwood Mallet
His spawn time is the same as all of the rest of the Mucktail Miners around him, and they all spawn a little faster than normal. The Mucktail Foreman pops within a minute if you kill him, but this guy, along with his two guards dogs, pops in the standard respawn rate.
He has one single Miner at the entrance to his cave that can be single pulled, then you have to deal with him and two guard dogs all together.
He also dropped 2 of the Shattered Shield's for me, so you can have a half size group go after him and everyone gets a reward at once.

Pit Boss Scar is for a quest given out by Scout Zerak. After you complete your first assignment from him, say 'gnolls' again and he will give you a new quest. Reward is a 1HB usable by meelee classes only.
The Pit Boss spawns in the middle gnoll cave (the one with the south facing entrance). Turn left after entering the cave. There are two rooms in this section of the cave. He spawns in the one that branches off to the right, just behind and between the two Mucktail guard dogs that are visible from the tunnel. He does not have a PH, but instead appears to be a timed spawn. Not sure of respawn interval, but it is greater than 30 minutes.
Lvl range between 24 and 25. Has alot of hit points for his level. Tried to lull the dogs close to him for the pull and either harmony is broken or it just didnt matter, got him and his three dogs. Tough fight for solo at 23.
The Pacify line of spells has changed how it acts. Before, your target was effectively short-term mezzed when using pacify, so it wouldn't move to help its friend. Now, the spell changes how far away its buddy is before the target thinks to help 'em. This results in a lot of mobs that can't be effectively separated using the Pacify series of spells, especially at low level.
