Essence of MoonlightThe PH or named is on a 19min timer. I noticed that the PH can spawn anywhere up and down the staircase next to the jail. However, it sometimes seemed to go in sequence, starting at the bottom landing and moving up one until it got to the top.
Every time the named spawned for me he popped on the middle landing going up the first full staircase after entering from the jail. He usually waits there for a few seconds and starts to travel upwards.

year 2014 now on Voxx server, mel and gwenlana still doing classic, was here 3 hours, 5 PH then he popped and droppd soulders for my classic paladin
been here 8 days now killed over 1250 Drow, killed his PH 59 times, he spawned once, dropped shoulders

googling caitiff says he's a vampire without any particular alliances, perhaps an earlier version of the vamps we now see in LDoN

Whats his timer? Does he have a PH? A magic phrase perhaps? An offering to the Gods?? What will bring about his appearance???

He is in Castle Mistmoore again, like all the other CM residents. He can be found usually in the staircase going up from the jail room, which can be accessed from the secret entrance in the graveyard. His placeholder is any random mob that is found in the staircase. He usually pops within 1-4 PH kills.

I camped this guy forever....different times of day, killing everything in site, and he never spawned. I didn't kill the undead knight, though. Think he might be the placeholder?
The undead knight is NOT his placeholder. The PH is any random mob that goes up and down the staircase, then out to the secret entrance to the jail room from the graveyard, then back up the staircase.

He now has a 'Leatherbound Journal' at his feet. Click it to pick it up. No idea what it is for. It is LORE.
Spawned just now for me after i wiped the camp out several times. He spawned at 182, 309 at 8pm game time, inside one of the orc huts. I'll post the picture soon.
This guy is now spawning at an orc camp in Lfay inside one of the tents. Look for the advisor.

Ok supposedly he Spawns in Lesser Faydark now. I am trying to get my "Call of Flames" spell and I am trying and trying to get this guys on tracking. Someone PLEASE help me find out EXACTLY where this guy spawns. And if at all possible how long the spawn time is.

He spawns at camp #6 on the EQATLAS maps. I don't know the location, but that is where he is. It is a vampire camp, so there will be about 7-9 of them. Kill them slowly and you can easily control the spawn cycle so that only one is every up.
Looking over the info posted on An Avenging Caitiff there is not much to go by. Do to the long spawn cycle for this guy it is hard to get clear information about him. I spent a few hours a day clearing out the grave yard and everything from the tomb room to the top of the stairs and no luck. Today I spent about 4 hours doing the same thing. I used lev and jumped from the tower and went back around a few times. Then out of shear boardom I killed the Ssynthi on my final cycle. Went inside the tomb room through the jail and around the first corner and there he was, standing on the landing between the top and bottom of the stair case. He was facing down toward me as I rounded the corner and must have just poped. Handed in my two fangs and he de-poped. Hung around for another half hour or so to see if he would show up again and nothing so I just went home happy to be done. Never saw anything else spawn it that position but I did not sit there the whole 4 hours and I did catch a few wandering mobs on the staircase so don't know if another spawed at the same location. Was easy for my 49 Ranger but very tedious sitting around for hours on end. I might come back and kill some time figuring this out but will have to be in the mood. Good luck!

When cheking track, be aware his name is all lower-case:

so be careful not to overlook this "named" mob simply because he's not. :)

I helped out a shammy yesterday in getting the dire while waiting forever to get the avenging to spawn. We went in and took out the advisor to spawn the Black Dire and lo and behold guess who else showed up, the caitiff himself. Not really sure if it was a coincidence or not but Im going to try it again next chance I get to see if it works. Hope this helps out everyone. Ill let you know.
There are NO faction hits for killing him. I'm not sure if someone posted that before, I didn't notice it as I read through.

Actually, I believe he is Beta Neutral. He, personally, isn't affected by any faction (he will always deal with you and never, NEVER, argo on you no matter how many times you kill him,) but that doesn't mean that killing him doesn't affect your faction.
So if beta neutral is important to you (like wizards need to get Ice Comet) then I wouldn't kill him until after you've done everything else.

This guy spawns near the bottom of the staircase near the jail, and then starts walking up the staircase to where most people see him. He does NOT have a place holder. There are 2 other spawn points near the top of the stair case that people are confusing with this guy.

I helped a 50 ranger friend with the quest today, and it took over 4 hours for this guy to spawn. It is possible that he has 2 diferent spawn rates. One for when he poofs after the turn is is done, and another for when he is killed. But he does not have a PH, that we are absolutely sure of.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. I camped the jail and graveyard a couple of different times now. I agree that there is a spawn point near the bottom of the stairs, within aggro range of the jail. This spawn point can be a few different common mobs and uncommonly spawns the Avenging Caitiff. Whatever spawns here is a wanderer and wanders up the stairs and then back through the jail and will actually take a peak into the graveyard area. It's on a 24 minute timer, like most mobs in Mistmoore.
On another note, you will be able to tell just from looking at the Avenging Caitiff what he is going to drop. If he has the helmet, you will be able to see it, as he appears in the picture at the top. Otherwise he appears normally.

I had some trouble finding this guy at first. For thost not familiar with Mistmoore, you run into the little building in the graveyard area. You'll see a coffin step behind there and you'll fall into like a basement area. Follow the ramp up through a false wall. If you go left from this room through another false wall you will come back out into the graveyard. If you go right through another false wall it will take you to a stairwell. This is where the Avenging Caitiff spawns.

Got on for a little late night hunting and found this guy in the jail room.
I had no idea he dropped anything good. When I first saw the crested helm on his body I thought to myself, "Huh? What's this? A lantern?"
Then I right-clicked it and about pooped my pants.
Very nice graphic: Makes me look like a skeleton in full plate.

Hi everyone, Im a lvl 33 monk and was wandering if a lvl 33 iksar monk (me) could take him. i want this helm for my rogue. and i was stupid when i was thinking about excepting the offer a guy gave me once for this helm for 100pp and i probly cant get another deal like it so i wanna camp this guy.

It says that this guy is a lvl 30. So...Is he an undercon or could a lvl 30 Ranger take him? I realy want the Crested Helm and sorta want the Spaulders. Im not the kinda person who can camp places for hours and hours so does he spawn often and is the Crested Helm a rare drop? Anywayz, I would also like to know what kinda Dmg he does and what his HP is (approx.) Thx.

The spawn rate for this guy or his place holder is currently 23min and some odd seconds. It took me about 3 hours to get him to spawn and he dropped shoulders. While I was waiting for him to spawn I picked up the flower spawn that spawns on casket and gave to shadowman in back of teh crypt to raise my Temple solro faction. This was a pretty decent spawn and I would suggest it to any pally that needs the faction for ro armor. The flower spawns in a bag and it spawns every minute or so.

if you have hunted in mistmoor for very long you will realize that some(not all) of the spawns pop undead at night.

I had a bloodstained mantel till lvl 30 then I swiched to crafted for the extra ac. I have the SSB too 3ac 35hp and 10mr more than the crested. but if you wanna be a n00b warrior then foget about ac togethere and load up on str and dex gear, sure you will do a helluva lot more dmg but you will get your *** handed to you. I have 121str think I give a dam? not with 890ac , ok I strayed from the piont about didnt I hehe, get the ssb and the the crested even better get crafted.

Well unrest is like the best loot and no body is ever there and califf spawns more than the usher or shadowy sage or scribe gl and advice take out casters first when ur fighting in jail so called secret room
