As of December 2020, Scalp of the Ghoul Lord is confirmed to still drop. It appears to be an ultra rare drop as my character went all the way to +2000 faction only faction farming in Lower Guk at +1 per kill. All undead named were killed along the way including the Ghoul Lord. After hitting +2000 faction it took an additional ~8 hours singularly camping the Ghoul Lord for this to finally drop.
In The Darkened Ruins of Old Guk (aka Lower Guk revamped) the ghoul lord is level 85. His highest hit on me is about 10 seconds before I got raped was 1696. I'm sure he hits higher than that though. Prolly 2.5k.
You guys should make a temporary new zone called The Darkened Ruins of Old Guk. Seeing how that's what it's called when you zone in.
For those not familiar with Lower Guk, the ghoul lord is found at the dead end of a hall in the eastern lowest level. Most maps have him marked on it (if you have downloaded them).
His location is 1557, -749, -167
I was hunting him for the Crown of Deceit quest, in 5 kills he dropped the following:
3 skull-shaped barbutes 1 short shord of the Ykesha 1 Scalp of the ghoul lord (5th kill, the item I was after).
His spawn cycle appeared to be the regular zone-wide time (I want to say 18ish mins but cannot do so with authority).
last night 6/5/06 i was goin to kill him but he wasent in his throne room there wher just 3 boks, iwould have stayed up to kill him but my mom was tryin to sleep!
soloed this guy with my 51 necro, buffed all the way up, pot9 symbol and ac buff, shammy buffs beast crack pet toys, the works, pulled him with slow and landed all my dots first hit except cascading darkness which i had to cast a second time, mezzed and slowed the other mobs in the room and with the ghoul lord slowed i could tank him making sure i kept bond of death up and i kept lifetapping, this guy has a hella lotta hp, i only had 5%mana at end of fight and 50%hp very tough but i got the helm and the scalp of the ghoul lord, very fun!
I dragged a couple friends of mine down to Lower Guk to camp an SMR (there were NONE for sale in the bazaar, I couldn't believe it), we were there for a few hours and we basically just kicked the crap out of the entire basement hall, from about frenzy on up.
49 enchanter (me) 52 mage using 51 earth pet 51 cleric
We managed to pull this guy twice, the first time he stayed aggro on me through most of the fight (very annoying, but the cleric just cast remedy as needed), soon as I landed slow on him the 51 earth pet tore him a new one, didn't even need to heal the pet through the whole fight. He dropped the Barbute the first time and a Yak the second time. Fun stuff. :)
We were there for about 4 hours, the AM spawned just before we left, but he had the damn legs. :( We also managed to kill the hand three times (Serp Bracer x 3) and the Frenzied once (Ring, bah).
If there was ever a zone to be re-vamped, it would be lower guk. Once feared by many and heavily camped for it's loot, it's now a barren waste of undead Frogloks that try to run in death crawl.
Since when is it ok for an undead to run at low health? What's ironic, is undead have no life to begin with, nor fear anything. No undead should run as that's the whole point of why they behave the way they do, they are not afraid of anything so why are they running?
The loot here is all sub-par and rots more than pixe stingers in Misty Thicket. The named for this zone are pushovers and drop nothing of use, even for the alt's of an alt. Only exception is the need for Enchanters and/or Rogues to get the robe from the Magus (SMR).
There was a time when the Frenzy could give a group trouble; the Ghoul Lord would wipe a many groups, now any mob in this zone can be crushed by a mid-level rookie.
Make this zone scary again, crank up the volume and bring back to life the stench that put fear in the hearts of men and kids alike!
The Fabled Ghoul Lord doubles for 300-1k+ damage, flurries, enrages, and is partially slowable. Easily farmed by a 65 (Time-equipped) monk, 63 beastlord, 63 cleric, and 55 cleric. Possibly duoable, but 3-4+ people recommended.
Does anyone know if the Fabled Mobs all summon? Can I root and dot, also does anyone know since the fabled mobs are still relativly lower level, if they can be charmed
Dunno if they ALL do, but yah, Ghoul Lord Summons. I got a FD off and he went aftyer a few others (who died really really quick) then got summoned (still FD) but then POW 1180 x2, 800, dead. NOT soloable, IMO.
I was level 56 when I took the ghoul lord out. I fought my way to the room (needed the faction, and the loot isn't bad if you pick up everything). I also used the monk pet (level 56) and Augmentation of Death as my pet buff.
I took a chance and tried Rest the Dead (undead lull). It's max level 45, and the bok knights which guard the ghoul lord are sometimes 46 or 47. I got lucky, and both lulls took.
I pulled the ghoul lord (and his pet) with snare and moved back out into the hallways I came from, so as not to aggro the bok knights when lull wore off.
You can either take out the pet, or mez it with Screaming Terror. Let your pet tank the ghoul lord while you slow (Shackle of Spirit) and load it up with dots. As noted below, the ghoul lord has a metric assload of hit points. (That's lots of hit points.) So keep your pet healed (reverse lifetap works), though I found that with the ghoul lord slowed, and pet hasted, the pet didn't take too much damage. A couple nukes tossed in helped end it when he ran away.
And I got the scalp, woohoo! Skull-shaped Barbute dropped as well.
We did this earlier today with relative ease. (62 Monk, 54 Cleric) First off IVU is awesome on the undead side. Once you are invis vs. undead you can just run spot to spot / camp to camp without ever having to fight. We consistently ran from the Executioner's room to the Bloodthirsty/frenzied room.. and finally to the Lord room as well as the re-animated hand. (also Arch Magi near lord room) Everything is on about a 20 minute timer. The Ghoul Lord has a surprising amount of hp's. The monk immediately killed the pet and proceeded to wail away on the Lord after that. I Chealed maybe twice with a couple of Divine Light's in between. It was an easy and controllable fight if you pacify the 2 mobs on the left and the right of the Lord. He dropped the Barbute (weak). When fight was over we invised again an ran to the next spot. We spent just over 2 hours in LGuk and killed the Ghould Lord once, Bloodthirsty Ghoul twice, Frenzied once, re-animated hand once, but we never got that pesky executioner to spawn /sigh.

As a 65 monk (moderate mostly dropable gear) around 3,100 hp, I cleared the hall up to him, cleared his guards, took his HT, waited for disc and mend to be back up and HP regen to full, (wearing a fungi) and then charge him, kill the pet, start raping him with inner flame and blow mend when I get 50% health. I have successfully killed him 10 times, I had helm drop almost every time, and a yak one of the times, I don't know if my luck is just plain horrible but I can't get him to drop the G-danm scalp, but It gives me a reason to keep factioning, as I hate factioning ) -still KOS after 10ish hours of faction and going through two rollbacks in ONE hour.. those really blew, I hope the patch today fixes this S*IT. I suspect I have a long time to go till im Indifferent to live side.
walked down tonight, only 4 inzone. Didn't shout just walked down, soon as I get there hes up, lulled the bok's and his pet and slowed him to pull. Snared him and sent pet after his pet. First kill gave me kickass DC pet weapon, second one yeilded the skin and the skull shaped barb
I'm a pretty well equipped 55 Pally, 1250ish AC 2800ish hp self buffed w/ 22% haste item + 25% pally spell haste, and this guy is work. Oh, and use a Widebladed Greatsword, 35/35 2hs.
Probably about a 8-10 min fight for me yesterday, w/ KEI, fearing him alot so that I could heal/med up during the fight. Post 54 I can fear with no risk of adds here. It might be doable earlier too.
I had cleared Lord Hall up to Lord, but was worried about backpops on the way to the pit so I fought him just outside his lair. Actually should have just taken him inside the Lord Room since I had just cleared other 2 mobs first w/ pacify pulls.
His HT landed for 611, he hits very fast and for alot for an old world mob. I needed to LoH, and after one add (the wanderer), I killed Lord with 5-10% mana and 5-10% health. Way too close for comfort, but certainly a good challenge!
Other than fighting him inside his room, which should eliminate the add (I think), I'll bring along a shammy DS potion or three next time. That would make a big difference. Too bad his loot is way worse than the ArchMagus, who now is pretty easily dispatched with KEI and chain stuns.
i went all the way down here wuth a grp of guildies to camp the assain and frenzied room and the mob right here some dumb lvl 65 nec went and got the lord and charmed him and killed everything and would let the lord go as his pet so he never respawned
with a 65 monk he is pretty easy. I was doing faction here for woody illusion crown earlier today and I never got hit by his HT out of 15 or so kills. I have runspeed 3, of course, which is probably why. Dropped Ykesha twice, I never looted him so I don't know if he dropped anything else. There was a level 38 there who looted all the corpses I left in the safe hall, needless to say, a now very rich level 38 after the 7 hours I was there, still threateningly in faction btw.
To prevent HT from landing cast stun on the Lord and then run like a little girl to the pit. Most times a HT mob will blow thier HT when you are out of range thus causing no damage to you. Of course you now have a very pissed off Ghoul Lord on your hands and most likely atleast one of his buddies.
Neat idea, I didn't realise harmtouch had a range limit.
Another good method is to bring along an SK or Necro with Harmshield up: we had the SK aggro pull with Harmshield, the Ghoul Lord blew the harmtouch on the shield, and then the SK pulled him back to us as the Harmshield was running down. A cleric with Divine Aura or any other similar class with the appropriate invulnerability spell would work well too.
Then with a Necro 70% undead slow he was an easy kill :).
