I think the need before greed thing is just that. I've been playin for 6 years and i still see actual newbies to the game. Their NEED is more than my need. These arnt the best items in Norrath. There are way better. Their used to be a time where these were in high demand but now they are just newb or twink gear not for main or high lvl chars. I don't really have the problems i used to with dropped items. But I don't really have the need that others do. Others seem to get so far absorbed into this game that they bring their RL insecureities itno it. I this game if you die you come back to life, so I don't take it as serious as RL. The Truth is we don't need thes usless we are wearing something lesser then they are an upgrade. The plat doesnt mean that much in this game you dont have to pay rent or electric or gas or any other bill to survive. It doesnt take alot of plat for buffs or rezzes food and water either. I personally have only had 10k plat one time in this game and that was me savein up for a horse. Guess what im alive and high lvl and have Great Gear. The rent on the guild hall is pay and the hot tub works just fine. Ease up folks its just a Game.
Everyone "needs" everything that is not labled "no drop". If the winner of a roll wants to "give" the item to someone in the group...then that should be the winners perrocative. Yes, I know that their are "items" that are for specific classes...but let's face it, once they get what they want, they take off and leave everyone else to struggle trying to get another group together to garner the others items needed. So, roll for "EVERYTHING". And in the end, if the winner wants to trade or share, fine. Let the winner make the call. Fair is fair. Nine times out of Ten I'll give the item to a member in the group that can use it. The Tenth time, I won't because that tenth person was "whinny, needy, and greedy."
"Need before Greed" is a concept that would work fine, if everyone were truthful. Since everyone isn't, then Roll Away!"
That isn't "need", no matter what YOU want to call it. If your group want everyone to roll on everything that is up to them. But rolling on something just to sell it still isn't "need."

Need before greed is a great concept, but if you're a caster the fact is more things drop for melee than casters so you should roll for everything non-nodrop. The people that 'need' that item will trade it for something they need more, given the opportunity. Things that drop for pure casters are much, much more rare than melee items. So we roll and then we also trade for what we need, as needed.
Logically the only reason need before greed is called is because a person knows something has a chance to drop that isn't no drop that they want and they rationalize their "need" for the item because they can "use" the item. If it is no drop, then they can apply their theory just fine but if any item is tradeable then there is no way to apply this and be fair to the 5 other people wasting their times so you can get your hand on an item anyone could sell and purchase things they "need". If the item is essentially worthless for selling then they have a minor basis for argument but otherwise they are the ones who are showing the "greed" right off the bat by trying to eliminate others who would possibly have a use for the item in some way. Although confronted with the logical truth, they will most likely claim they have divine precedence, start cussing you out or anything else people who won't accept the truth unless they get their way do...
I know I would scream need before greed, than the next visit to the market I sell my stuff and go back to get more. Need before greed is a wonderful concept. Truth is I need everything I can get my hands on.
i /agree on the screaming need before greed part. Pay back all those groups that didnt let me roll on items like chrystal chitin bracers and other items which are worth extremely much and where i cant even get a good drop at the camp.. (top camp in Velks = oooo wowwy a frozen spider ring or something like that) I guess im just feeling a bit bad about all the money that people make by selling stuff that they said that they deperately needed when all they wanted to do was sell it or pass it on to their twink to make it that bit more unneccesarily uber and cool. Just sharing my opinion on the subject
