How does aggro work with this thing? When chanters use rune they get some nasty aggro. But invulnerable people don't get as much aggro. Is the a hate reducer or a hate increaser?
casting hp absorbers gives you agro yes.. but a mob isnt stupid enough to spend its time attacking an inv. player if it has more than 1 person on the hate list. When a person becomes inv. they are not removed off the hate list but it gives the caster enough time for the MT "hopefully" to gain more agro so when it wears off hes higher on the list. So by procing this i believe it will generate more hate.. just not sure how much hate a 150 absorber produces...
i dont understand why this ir LORE, because i just saw a guy in Icewell Keep lvl 60 Ogre Warrior duel wieling these. was it nerfed? o well i dont care im only lvl 41 so it might be a fw more months before i make my first trip to ToV, ut i did get somma dat sweet Royal Velium Frosted Armor..including the BP!!!! thanks Mr. Ogre and the group who helped!

Something of note. I see below a formula that calculates max damage by factoring in str, plus skill lvl, etc. As a ranger, we get spells that do not increase str, but do increase our atk rating. By increasing the attack rating, all else equal, the max damage does appear to go up. One prime example is when I am in wolf form (about +35 to attack) and have Str of Nature buff on (another +25), I see my max hits go up from somewhere around 57 or 58 to about 66 or 67 (jagged blade of mourning). Anyone have any insight on the true affect of increasing attack rating versus increasing str?
I can't give you hard facts, except as my experience playing a 49th level Iksar Monk.
Strength increases your attack rating to begin with, so I do not know 100% for sure if the max damage increase I receive with the buffs from a 49th level shaman friend of mine is from the attack increase, or the strength increase. Judging by the higher average damage output by Ogre Warriors I've grouped with using comparable weapons, I would have to guess that it is the strength stat that most influences maximum / average damage in melee combat.
attack rating > strength. The attack rating is factored in once you look at AC mitigation. I'm not going to go into details on this since it's complex and there are numerous posts on this subject on various forums.
Actually, well perhaps poorly written I didn't say Rangers don't get Strength spells AT ALL. Rather, Rangers have spells that don't have a strength component, but do have an attack component. Guess I should have said it that way the first time.
Anyway, since I have posted this I have drawn the conclusion that the attack rating is what ultimately determines your damage output. Try for example and equip a 2hb or 2hs, if your skill is very low compared to your main weapon, after equipping your main weapon and note the difference in the attack rating. My attack rating when I tried this with dual wield was 1092, when I switched to a 1hp in primary slot(with skill 1) my attack rating was about 572 if I remember correctly. My point is that anything that ultimately effects an increase in your attack rating (i.e., makes it go up :) ) will increase your max damage output.
The following 2 sites are very good at explaining things http://forums.castersrealm.com/cgi-bin/eq/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=123&t=000082
http://www.geocities.com/copelandeq/
The first doesn't take into account the damage bonus on 2HS weapons because it was done before that came out. By my understanding the formulas should now be.
Magic number (most hits are for this) [(2 * DMG) + (Level Damage Bonus)] + weapon bonus
1 + (Level Damage Bonus) + weapon bonus (note lvl damage bonus and weapon damage bonus are 0 for offhand)
Level damage bonus is: for 1 hand weapons Level Damage Bonus = (Level - 25)/3 for 2 hand weapons below 51st lvl Level Damage Bonus = (Level - 25)/2 above 51st lvl Level Damage Bonus = (Level - 7)/3
Haven't seen a good formula for max Crits and crips
The second link is a program that does take into account the weapon bonus and your lvl. It doesn't do individual hits but gives what your average Damage per minute(DPM) should be if your skills are maxed (can adjust that in the program). It also allows you to add the various haste items but not spells to see what the effect is on DPM. DPM should be the real factor in deciding what is the best weapon.

so then i guess you start getting bonuses at lvl 27(1) and then every 2 lvls you get 1 more point at lvl 45 you should have a 10 point bonus. For 1hs you got to be lvl 29 to get a 1 pt bonus. So what this means to use lowbies is: damage bonus is not a big factor until your like lvl 40 =/ oh well i guess i got some lvling to do!
while that is technically true, you can become fatigued from a prolonged battle, though it takes a lot, and i mean about 100X longer to start dropping stamina then if you were using say a wurmslayer
as far as i can tell its the same as its always been, just increases the amount of damage after you hit the mob by x amount, only now it is displayed on the weapon.
Hallelujah! All gods be praised! someone who finally gets the damage bonus! Check it out people: in all the recent damage bonus related patches, the only time verent ever said they were making a modification to damage bonuses is a while ago when they added an extra one for 40+ delay 2 handers. All the recent damage bonus is just making it display. That's right, the damage bonus showing up on all the toys is yer regular old level based damage bonus. Which for all us melee classes is (level -25)/3. Or: 1 one 28, 2 on 31, 3 on 34, 4 on 37. This formula only applies to 1 handers where delay isn't a factor. I don't know what the caster formula is (like you guys care anyway), but plug yer level in and find oout! bet it matches the bonus displayed on yer weapons. Point is, there is no new bonus, only new information displayed on weapons.
i dunno about you guys, but this whole dmg bonus thing seems confusing! so i see no its not 24/19 and yes it is, then no then yes.... so WHAT IS THE TRUTH????????
Ok, the truth on damage bonus from what I can tell, is this.
Damage bonus doesn't affect the "DMG: xx" on the weapon. What it is, like for this, you would add 11 damage to what you deal (for the class and level of person who sent this in, because it changes class to class and level to level).
For instance, if you hit and did 20 damage without the damage bouns, you would actually hit the mob for 31 damage. It's just a bonus to actual damage dealt, if you understand what I mean. That's what I understand, and that's what would make sense, because just making it a bonus to the damage displayed on the weapon would be stupid because you'd see SOOO many weapons that had more damage than delay, and Verant has only done that on like 4 weapons so far.
Hope that explains and helps you, if I'm wrong could somebody please correct me and not flame me? Thanks
The one that these weapons are now showing is entirely level based. It ONLY applies to level 51+ players and only is SHOWN to level 51+ players as well.
On the other hand there are other damage modifiers for skill and strength, but those are NOT this damage bonus.
Not so sure. I am a lvl 30 war and see dmg bonuses on most if not all of my weapons, 1h inclueded. Admittedly, I have no idea what these mean or do, but I did see and increase in average dmg output once they appeared. Kugg lvl 30 war Bristlebane
You will see a damage bonus on every weapon you have when you look at it, but the only time you will actually get that damage bonus is when you are using that weapon in your primary hand, or using a 2h weapon (since you can only use one 2h weapon at a time).
One of the most important things to note is that you will see people who do not know that your damage bonus increses every 3 levels past 29(?) or so auctioning weapons off, saying "Damage bonus 3 (etc)". The damage bonus is completely dependant on WHO is using that item, in the hands of a level 1 the damage bonus will be ZERO, so don't let that fool you into buying something.
Nice weapon but i got a different question...you know everytime you see the posts telling about the effects and such and what the msg you get says when its casted on you or on someone else why is the person being casted on usually soandso? why cant it be freddy or jimmy or george huh? huh? huh? =) thats mah 2cp
My hunch is that 'Soandso' was the name of the first mob in the game - the character that they used to test everything with - and perhaps they just left this name as the default for a lot of things (most of which they've since changed). If you've ever used the 'Test Everquest' feature (the EQ Tutorial), or EZE (Everquest Zone Explorer - a zone exploring tool based on the tutorial), you might have noticed that the character which you control is named just that: Soandso. Just my theory - with some credit to Dogdog. - Paghk
I think your reading soandso as Soandoso... and not what it really is So and So... meaning any name.... lol if you slurred the whole thing together, and congratz on seeing it if you did.

Well we should thank Verant for allowing us to see who the stupid ones are.
The bonus is the same for every weapon of a type for your level, it is weapon skill/level bonus. So weather it is a 7/21 or a 17/27 weapon if it's the same type it gets the same damage.
Example: the MoSS 19/29 has the exact same damage bonus as the Ebon Bace 19/24 which for me having all skills maxed is exactly the same as the Sword of Skyfire 10/22 and the Gnole Hide Lariate 3/21.
ONLY 2 HAND WEAPONS HAVE AN ADDITIONAL DAMAGE BONUS ADDED BASED ON DELAY OF THE WEAPON!
So basically ignore the damage bonus listed on 1 hand weapons and the bonus on 2 hand weapons is relative based on level.
i am Not a Flame so i am Gonna be nice about this.
the Bonus damage to any particular weapon ... i will use my weapons for example.
7/18 (master Wu's trance stick) 11/25 (cane of the Tranquil)
they BOTH have a Damage Bonus of 5 for me as a 41st Monk.. and yes it Does add the Bonus to the Damage DEALT...NOT the base damage for the weapon..
Because if i had a 12/18 weapon with effect Smite <83DD> (master Wu's) i would not have a Normal damage of 25-35 i would be Hitting far harder than that with an added 5 points on my base bamage of a weapon, more like 35 - 45.

If you did, you'd know that the damage bonus has always been on a weapon in the primary hand, they just started showing that little number after the put the bonus rating on 2h weapons recently. Of course, the bonus isn't applied until the 50+ levels, I believe.

With the damage bonus, it's a 24/19 weapon, and the effect absorbs damage. Not a lot of damage, but it's better then nothing.
This is one of the more interesting weapons I've seen coming out of ToV.
Sorry, but the damage bonus isn't added to the base damage of a weapon. It's still a 13/19 weapon, but the damage bonus (based on the lvl and class, and hand for that matter) is added onto the actual damage inflicted.
