Ok, where this wpn comes into play is when you are farming for trades skills supplies. Example is Acrylia or Velium Bricks. Even at 58 I dont like to take on 10 RyGorrs at once without rooting and dotting them all as I hunt down more in CCaverns. I put up my best buff and regen spells along with coat and shield of blades and then try to smack up a small train of 4-7 to follow me to a root area where I can root em in a row and use sleeves to dot em down. Having this wpn allows you to avoid the multiple spell interruptions while trying to cast. Plus you want em rooted so they wont run away and wont just turn from a snare at 20%. You dont want to have to melee em down, you want them to die on your pin cushion. Hitting them for near 40pts per thorn per swipe is much faster way to take down 7-10 of them than trying to get off the aoe quake spell or whatever.
As a 60 Druid I've used this since level 47 and love it.
Yes I'm a druid, not a melee class, but here are some reasons for enjoying it:
Nice Graphic :-)
As a UK player on a US server there are time's when Norrath is really quiet and I want to solo somewhere like Nadox. RoTting's fine but when 2 rounds of dots leave a mob at 10% it's nice to wade in and save time and mana on medding for the next mob.
Our epic is 1HS. Yes, at lower levels 1HB is often a druid's preferred but this can help skill up ready for the epic piece and still do fair damage by our class's standards
It's not commonly seen and is often a conversation starter in groups and adventures
Did I mention the graphic?

Ok, I had this weapon for a few weeks, and was able to sell it for about 6k more then I bought it. What can I say, buy low sell high, its the name of the game in the Baz. Anyway here is what I enjoyed about the weapon: Nice graphics, if you dont have an epic and your not joining any guilds, just to kiss everyones *** to help you then you want this or a bone handed scimitar so you at least look cool. Granted the extra mana on this helps a little but when your out of mana and the mobs are mostly dead, add the extra dot from an es vambrace to finish it off, why not play ranger and whack at it? If it procs it does a 160 damage root, if that doesnt kill it just sit back and med or do what ever. Of course I only use this thing on Mellee type Mobs. The other way to go is a good 1hb with nice extra mana enhancements 50+. But lets face it our weapons are really only usefull for the stat enhancements anyway not the attack/dmg ratio. I can swing all day on a rooted skell in the grey with 2% health but before he dies I have to step back and chloroblast myself one, two, sometimes three times before he dies(he's dotted too). So at this point and my level(55) its all about the graphics, and enhancements not about whacking away, (only when I want to be cute and make a ranger think I can tank!) Finally any weapon in hand looks better then a lantern! I never heard anyone say "Ohhh how fierce he looks with that shield and lantern!"

The true users of this sword are half elf druids who are having an identity crisis and have flashbacks to playing a warrior and charge toward Fay screaming in gnomish and assuring their group that they have a 1hs of atleast 117 and then get destroyed by Fay while the group laughs and drags their body into the ocean and get on their demented land whale ykesha horse thingys and fly away.
I think Lakepoka makes some good points. Its generally better above a certain level to med and then cast rather than melee - but there are certain exceptions. When I get into melee these days (52) its either 1) I'm ******** around cause we're overpowering whatever we're fighting, 2) Its an orc pawn or something else not worth casting on or 3) I can't either med or cast
The third happens in several circumstances - when you're out of mana and fighting something that has massive aggro toward medders (like Fay), when the thing AOE blasts so medding is constantly interrupted or when I've taken aggro from something and am begging the tank to pull it off me. In the last case I'm generally casting root but getting interrupted - then having a proc root would be great as I could leave. Heck I might even change it in and out with my epic when I was <100% mana (the extra epic wis and mana don't help much if you're well below full).
Okay I'm not sure when this thing starts procing however who in their right state of mind a druid mind you would want to 1)melle something to death instead of medding? I mean even with maxed out melle ability you'll still miss more then you'll hit. That's just the way it is for casters. (Hell that's just the way it is for warriors too /sigh) 2) and perhaps the most obvious why in the hell would you want a snared mob ready to die ROOTED so that he can turn around on you and start smacking the monkey outta you? It would totally defeat the purpose of fear kiting. LOL
/agree. love to see some dumb druid hit a mob in 2nd or higher tier plane with this weapon and it proc. Last thing any caster needs to do is to try and melee with a root procing weapon seeing as under no circumstance is it good for him/her fear kite just ended and turned into hey i am scared but i am gonna kill ya now. and with mobs that can quad for up and over 500 it is a uncommon few with enough HP to withstand that much less if ya get stunned .. KISS YOUR @#$ GOODBYE.. give me a rusty dagger first
as a level 61 druid with the epic, i would have to say this is about the most worthelss piece of **** i've yet to see people oogle over for their druid.. if you want a weapon to hit with.. get a fungi covered staff.. it's 2handed blunt sure but you can right click a 22hp a tick regen on yourself which will negate any pawn from smacking you.. since it's a proc effect that's just added agro you dont want while you're pretending to be a ranger and swinging on a mob that's going to smite you down in 3 or 4 hits. if you do get it's agro..
not everyone can get an epic.. i know they're a pain in the *** to get.. bone handled scimiatar.. is gimp.. whaaa boo hoo.. you want a fun toy to swing.. scimitar of the emerald dawn.. semi common drop from wooshi.. or a falchion of flowing water.. from justice.. or fierce wind from the jagged pine..--- easily obtainable by any reasonably skilled druid whose been in a fight or 2.
Its got to be one of the easiest epics in the game. My guidl is nowhere near being a big or uber guild, but we have gotten druid epics for several of our druids.
The only other epics we have successfully completed so far are the rogue and monk epics.
Getting close to finishing a few cleric epics, but chardok is still very difficult for us.
Bottom line: with or without a guild, if you have made friends over the time you've been playing, druid epic is not difficult.
If you ask me, You can keep this thing. I like my BHS. damage to delay? only time a swing my sword at a mob is when its turned. Last thing I want is some POS rooting the thing and p*ssing it off when I am that close. I'll stick to mine and if I get one of these I'll hope to find a sucker to give me 5k for it. What do you think druids are rangers? I won't mellee if they don't try to heal me.
Saw this in /bazaar mode for 7k. Trade FBSS and Sash of the Dragonborn for it. Never saw it before that time, never seen it since. Never seen anyone else with it. Must be rare. With my 1hs maxed and my offense maxed, its pretty good for fear kiting. Kimmber 38 wood elf druid Xegony
Dont remember Oakleaf having this graphic I may be wrong thought only the Bond Handle Scimitar had the Darkmetal Scimitar graphic Bone handle is a better wep for a druid the effect on this one is nice but if its a proc Im not wasting my time getting something that might end up getting be clobbered by some mob for rooting it :) cobalt drake in CS prime example :)
especially for dmg/delay, LoL who are you kidding? LoL DMG/DELAY???? This weapon is for druids, not warriors. This scimi is to make us look cool and the occassional whack fest on a mob that is mostly dead and cant hit us back.
What are the chances that I could auction and buy this? I am guessing slim but do not know. I have some cash and would not mind blowing it all to buy this.
Assuming a non-druid got it to sell what do you suppose the price would be on an older server? I am on Tunare.
I have a suspision that I will need to tack on 10 levels and get it myself (with the crew).
you probably won't see many(any) for auction. i haven't seen one on my server yet, so i imagine they're extremely rare. on top of that, add to the rarity the chance of someone who isn't a druid getting this item on a raid. most semi deep chardok raids involve multiple groups, and we all know how many druids there are in the game. and i seriously doubt any group or guild would be so greedy as to not default this to a druid if there is one in the group.
if i got one of these, i would never sell it, simply for the fact that it's (IMO) the best graphic on a druid sword. we don't have that many graphic choices to begin with. epic is nice, but most people have particle effects turned off anyways.
looks mean a lot to me now that i have most the things i want, so put this with a full set of crystal chitin armor and either a square helm or custom velious helm (dain, tormax, zlandicar helms), people will be doing triple checks when they see you run by.
so anyways, i doubt you'll see one for auction. and if you did, odds are there will be a druid like me who will pay a lot more than you for it =) sorry! hehe
Sorry for not checking this item yet but I submitted drop information on this weapon when I sent in the picture so my apologies to all you druids who have been looking for this weapon. This scimitar dropped off the named MOB Arch Inspector Nibi`zi. He spawns in Korocusts room in chardok. He is a semi rare spawn, we saw him 2 times in 4-5 hours. This is, I believe, his rarest drop. You need a really good set up of 6 people who know their stuff or 2-3 groups who know how to hit an assist key to clear this room and keep it cleared for the duration of your camp. Good luck to anyone seeking this weapon.

aye, this is great info for all you druids wanting to get your hands on a nice weapon. So many posts regarding items ususually contain the phrases: "this would be great for my..." or "wow, can we say monk item?!", so its refreshing to see actual information on how to get the item (even tho im not a druid, the info is still good). more people should post strategy instead of arguing who would benefit most from what.
As a level 39 druid, my 1hs is about 8-15, and my 1hb is 145... I am currently using a springwood club, 9/25 5 str 5 wis 5 int 1.2 weight. Now, with this weapon. 10/19, 5 wis, 35 mana, and even 5 sv fire and a root proc, this is not only an upgrade to my springwood club, but I can finally get my 1hs up! A great item for almost all druids. Hopefully in a month or two, or more, I will be able to head to chardok or by that time have saved up to buy one. Good luck to everyone getting this great weapon!
What I'd like to know is why anyone CARES (other than druids) if druids get this item. It's druid only, so it's not like we're going to be rolling against rangers/warriors/whomever for this weapon if it drops. Last time I checked there were plenty of good weapons for other classes to wield.
I have an idea. Since druids never melee, let's make the Nature Walker's Scimitar a ranger weapon and give druids yet another voodoo doll to carry around, making it so they can't even hit the orc pawns that attack them every time they sit down. Sheesh.

i happen to melee with my druid a lot. I enjoy hacking and slashing thru those pesky pawns, and skellys that can't get it thru their skulls that I can beat the snot out of them (now) wit 1 blow or even a lvl 1 spell. Although I have heard some group members' jaws hitting the floor when I jump in and start whaling away on some mob. I'd like this Scimitar for my druid.
Neat item for druids. This will undoubtedly be a highly sought item by the class and will probably only be weilded by the most elite - at least for now. I'd love to see how well this item works. In my experience with EQ, theres a pretty good chance that the proc will get resisted about 50% of the time if you're using it on yellow, blue or even mobs. It's a nice finishing item for kiting, except that when you've got a nearly dead mob snared he doesn't hit back, but if this proc sticks he'll turn around and start smacking you because of the root effect. A nice thing about using it in melee is that even if it procs, the root will not overwrite any snares on the poor bastage, so he's in double trouble. And if you're grouped, a proc from this thing may save the day for a chanty, a cleric or an overzealous nuker. Its always nice to have a beefy mob stay put so your true melee types can lay the smack down, and your fragile chantys and clerics don't get atomic-wedgied by a pissed off mob. I'd say that most druids agree that the spell this blade casts costs too much mana and doesn't stick enough to merit using up a memory slot most of the time. It has limited applications, but when you're in a group this could be a pretty useful item from time to time. And hell, you haven't meleed since level 15 - this scimmy might get you to wade right back into it. I'm still waiting for them to come out with a druid only 1hs called "Blade of Grass".
I agree, engulfing roots costs a good chunk of mana and is hard to keep memorized while grouping... An item to look into for druids is the Warden Symbol of Tunare. Druid/cleric of tunare only, 7 ac 3 cha 5 wis 15 mana, clickable effect grasping roots. It sticks just as well as engulfing roots does for me (tried out engulfing roots... was resisted just about the same ammount as this effect). Cast time is about the same as regular root, maybe a little longer, but no recast time... for any spell, the item, or the best part (in my opinion) even other spells, like a dot for instance, or a stun/dd like Fury of Air in case this was resisted.
We all have to admit that EQ is comming out with some fancy looking weapons. Its about time a druid blade comes around like this. It has pretty ok stats. If i was a druid, id like to weild something like this.
But im not.

That graphic is truly beautiful. When you get near 60, looks can often be a big factor with things. I have one of the velium brawlsticks from DN...not because I do much damage in melee with it, but because I love toting around a black spiked baseball bat.
Now, I do actually melee from time to time. I am maxed at 1hs, and can hit in the 20s. Don't forget that this is one of the high level root spells (49 i think). get a dex buff, and you're meleeing with an item that basically procs for 160dd...and procs aren' based on whether you hit or not, so it will make some of us druids actually able to contribute on those MOBs that don't succumb to fire or cold.
A nice weapom, any way you look at it.
ahh, on a side note, when you root something, it makes it very hard for rogues to backstab, so keep them in mind.
this droped for us in the Korocust area, i'm sorry but i don't remeber the exact mob that droped it. but it seams to be a very rare drop as i have not seen any other of these swords on the server yet. oh btw the effect is a proc NOT a right click. it's too bad too it would have been a really nice item if it was a right click. but then again taggle likes it for the decent stats and the very cool look.

jeez man, calm down! what is wrong with druids having a 1hs with a good ratio? btw y dont u lay off the "gay" talk. thats just makes u sound like a loser n00b who is jealous cuz this is a dang nice weap and druid only, while u only have some rusty 1hb to beat rats with. get a life )
uhh wow ok... look at the all around stats.. 5wisdom 35mana... the ratio isnt the most important thing in the world in a druids life. BUT my druid is 44 and he melees on a regular basis.. why waste mana when you can whack a snared, running mob? great for farming too i must say.. the dam del ratio is incredible and it looks cool as hell also... donno why people complain that druids finally have a nice 1hs to use b4 their epic
