Well, I was jus stating how I like the upgrades they have made to tailoring since Velious came out. Tailoring is an extremely hard skill to learn and master, and I was just stating the fact that it is now worth the problems. sorry if you all took it the wrong way.
Well, considering you need Ice Burrower Silks to make these shoes (platinum thread, boot pattern, vial of purified mana, and two Ice Burrower silk swatches (four ICe Burrower silks total)), they are kind of a letdown.
Loam Encrusted Shoes that a good 6 man 50+ group can get in the Hole (with a fantastic ZEM too) are much better for a 'chanter. (Wt 0.70. +4 AC, +8 Agi, +8 Dex, +8 Cha, +10 vsPos, +15 Mana, LORE MAGIC). Odds are better that you can get or buy Loam Shoes long before you can get these Silk ones.
Most of the sets of velious armor have at least some very nice pieces, haze panther armor in particular. Even these shoes aren't nearly as good, I think, as the ice silk cap: AC 5 cha+11 wis+8 int+10 mana+20 sv magic+5 sv cold+5.
Also keep in mind that these are incredibly difficult to make. They require silk from a level 60-61 (I think) ice burrower in the Western Wastes. A level 49+ enchanter must make the vial of purified mana, using up four rubies (at 130pp each), a poison vial and 1000 mana. Then you must add a 262pp platinum thread--all for a single attempt at an item with a trivial level over 250. I think there is only one known person on any server with a tailoring skill of 250. Most estimates of the cost of becoming a skill 250 tailor seem to center around 200,000pp+ and thousands of man-hours of effort.
Given that I find these shoes a bit disappointing, and would rather see the materials go towards the cap I mentioned above. (Or better yet, I'd like to see it put towards attempts at some of the pieces that still haven't been made.)
That said, I do think it's great that tailoring has been extended to the high end game. There are a number of other great tailored items that were added with Velious such as the othmir fur cap, cobalt drake belt, arctic wyvern cloak, and haze panther tunic.
I notice that the screenshot is from EQTraders, and though I have not seen any of these yet myself, I don't expect to if these are one of the Ice Burrower Silk items. If I recall correctly, not only does the silk drop from around level 60 worms (I don't think they are wurms, but worms) in Western Wastes, the mana component (similar to Wu's) is a 49th level chanter spell requiring 4 rubies to cast once! I would suspect that if anyone who can make these has any for sale in the next 6 months, expect them to cost alot more than most players will have, judging by the skill required and the costs to obtain.
I believe this is made from Ice Burrower silk. In which case, the cost for each attempt is of the region of 3kpp with a very high probability of failure if your tailoring is under 200. For that price there are better boots out there and most tailors would not waste their ice burrower silk on this item when the cap is so much more tasty.
i can give you that you casters didnt have any nice tailored stuff, but rogues, monks, rangers and shamans all got some nice velious leathers. caster stuff is obviously up next :)
Failkan Blaackhand Rogue of the 24th Dagger Sanguine Blade Bristlebane Aspiring Tailor of the 38th Skill Level
There are lots of good tailored items, but they are serously hard to make...these boots, for example, you need to kill two (at least) level 60 mobs, and then spend 800pp in components to *try* to make them. And guess what? Even if your si=kill is 250, they won't be trivial. And the Wu stuff can only get you to 159. There's nothing in between. So expect to PAY any tailor who can make these.
Anyone notice how htere really isnt any good tailored items? Sure, you got your Wu armor, but this is seriously sweet. I don't know the components needed, but I'm liking these shoes. My Chanter will take a pair of these off yer hands, lol. Once again, nice shoes.
In Velious, tailoring has finally come into its own, really. Some of the tailored items are *incredibly* sweet, though they require very expensive components and are very difficult to make. Go look at some of the class-specific stuff (panther, haze panther to name two.) They blow some planar armor away...
