My first opinion is how can an item I loot be no rent? I can understand summoned items but not loot.
My second opinion is this: Being a no rent quest item can add a level of fun to the game. You have to get this from spot A to Spot B before you can camp. For that reason, I think it's ok.
Actually, tagging quest items as NO RENT is not unheard of. A couple of Necro quests and the Jboots quest spring to mind as needing a NO RENT Shadowed Rapier off Shadow Men.
Folks were losing NO RENT quest items (as well as summoned containers and everything in them) due to link deaths, so VI patched in the 30-minute timeout on NO RENT items a little while back.
Damn 30 minute timeout on no rent, that is good in a lot of ways but i got my hopes up i logged out to give necro some stuff and still had helm i thought the no rent was bugged and that i would be able to keep this nice SVM helm. Kinda sucks i cant oh well.
this is needed to recieve one off the sisters of scale skulls; part of the iksar shaman 6th cudgel quest. Talk to one of the Kloks, sangrin i believe, near cabilis in Ill omen.
People, I understand that everyone is all happy and giggly that they were the first to send in the info on a new item, but please do NOT (whoever is responsible for it) tag these as Used in Quests if no one has a clue what it is used for even if it IS for quests! If this is an automatic flag that Allakhazam has attached to any No Rent items, then my apologies for this rant. If it is the individual submitting it however, PLEASE don't waste space on the quest lists by superfluous and questionable "Quest" items.
Sorry if a lote of people ***** about what im going to say but common give the people in there late teens and twentys somthing decent for once. I mean I see all the stuff that drops at this level and all of it suck in one way or another. There making it so that you have to be a twink just so you can stand up aginst a blue mob . Give me a break my main is a level 30 bard and im kind of twinked for my level considering its my main but I can even Fear kit somthing with out getting by but handed to me.
i know it too...My wiz was twinked with a couple hundred plat and i still dont have items(or int) up to the people i group with. I look at the mobs/quests that you need to get the items that my groupmates have, and they are super high lvled. I am wearing a Polished Bone Hoop(+10 mana). I just got it at lvl 23 and i was in a group. now if that is the best earring i can get at lvl 23, then consider me an Uber twink.
Well +10 mana at level 20 is the equivilant to +2.5 int pre 200 int. So all in all, it's not that bad. As for needing to be twinked to survive, I've never believed that. My main is a lvl 55 bard that has never been twinked, and I also play an untwinked lvl 22 beastlord.
The problem isn't with the game, it's with the players. Everyone is looking for instant gratification. Such a thing does not exsist in EQ. Granted my beastlord could not go to Lguk and kill the hand for the serp bracer she wears, but she was able to kill enough spiders and bears to get her tailoring skill to a point to make backpacks at considerable profit and buy one from some one who could do that camp. My bard was in patchwork well into is late teens till he had saved enough cash to make himself banded, and then make more money from smithing to buy a MM drum. This does not make them twinked, just resourcefull. I remember meeting a level 20 ranger once who was wearing full Ivy etched armor and dual weilding yaks. He was not twinked, he spent 2 weeks in Qhills tracking Pzjyn for a GBS and sold it for 20k. He also was not twinked, just resourceful.
If you think the Items you want are out of your reach then I suggest you re-think the way you play this game. Don't look so much to take something from it as give to it. Perhaps then you'll start to find the real rewards this game has to offer.
old world and new world matter also. Like for the old world, certain gear is pretty nice. You go to Kunark or Velious and its not quite as good, then you try to take that 'once uber' gear to say Luclin or beyond, you will probably be smashed.
I spent about 700p on a character once, and thats including 200p for a stein of Moggok. Playing a Erudite Mage I went for pure Inteligence. I got I think 208? I once tried to hand someone a really nice drop, they then proceeded to tell me they dont even use an item if it wasnt in the 10's of thousands of plat range. That was for EACH slot.... my jaw dropped. Why? I had to ask, I mean Mana is nice, Agility is nice... but just to get in the game and play, get your main stat up, and later on loot and buy more well rounded stuff.
There are other extreemes though. I logged on to my Ex Girlfriends account. Her Shadowknight had FULL flayed skin... at level 28. Even back in the day thats pushing it. I would not go past mid 20's in it. And even today the noobie armor is almost as good.
And her Pally had those +10 HP +10 mana (2 of em) bracelets, no AC? or 2AC (cant remember) * that was pathetic. ICKY AC, on a pally... ugh.
So there are extreemes. TECHNICALLY - Some can argue a Twink is anything your character in or out of a group could not loot. Well there are sometimes things left to rot, and or what not. and that means you would not even have a Fine Steel weapon until about 25. Try to play that way sometime. its TOUGH. Tailor your armor, covet the bronze weapon you get. And now the Noob armors and weapons are a godsend... but saves on the bank account a lot.
I thought about playing a character totally naked before. like a Wizard.
I guess twinking is relative. Id say anytime a character has pretty much ZERO down time, solo, and is not really all together a solo class. Or if you can easily grow into a next phase of the game and not change gear, your twinked. Like my friends toon is in ALL clockwork Observer Armor. His alt made it, and he could technically use that right up until 65 if he wanted.
My extent of twinking is finding cool stuff on vendors, drops, loots on alts, and hand me downs... thats what I mostly do.

Ummm This is not the first and or only no rent item needed in a quest. one of the most popular quest, the J-boots uses the shadowed man rapier, that is a 'no rent' item. Sometimes when you are up untill the break of dawn, and need to sleep, you politely as someone to slay you at the bank... :D Kepp it on your corpse.
My thoughts are that as long as the quest is fairly straightforward (obtain 1 item and return to NPC), you obtain, return and get reward, end of quest. It's when you have to get items 1-4 and do this and that then bring whatever to another NPC, then return for reward that No Rent items would be kind of silly. Plus there is no sense in making an item that is not part of a quest as No Rent; what are you going to do, equip it then go and get it again every time after you camp??
All that said it would not surprise me that a few cruel jokes would exist within a game of this size because programmers are inherently bent.
Sorry to say, but no typo. It is truely NO_RENT I tried to find out what this is for and it turns it is for a Shaman Quest. Iskar only. I do get a nice hammer out of it.
but if the apartment were no-rent, would you wake up everyday in the dirt because it gets deleted everytime you camp....?And if it worked like no-rent containers...all yer junk would be bu-bye? Hmmmmm
