Superior to the [Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring] since [Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring] has a level requirement to use the clicky effect and [Reaper's Ring] is usable at level 1. Also, faster to farm [Reaper's Ring], which often rots in NTOV.
Huge upgrade to jboots as far as insta clicks go b/c jboots cant be used in-doors. Doesn't really make a difference w/shrunken gob earring, though the ring is very nice even w/o the effect.
He's talking about simply using the buff as a dispell protection in your first couple buff spots, thats all. Its actually good to have like 2-3 insta click items, you can click them all on, then get all your buffs, then as long as you don't have a bard, just click the 3rd instaclick one off. That way if you get dispelled it just takes your instaclicks, and if the mob lands a magic spell, you can just click off the instaclick buffs, cancel magic yourself and not have to cancel magic all your good buffs first. Then click all the instaclicks back on, and you're good as new =]
Of course this is bothersome as the 2-3 clickable items do bring you closer to your 15 buff limit. Of course the situation where this is most useful is raid situations, ie the one where you are most likely to be at the 15 buff limit. But VI is working to increase that limit with the release of PoP upcoming, and if they do, it will become much more effective.
I have no problem with you criticizing this post of Mandicus' sir, however he contributes a huge amount to Allakhazams. If you want to ridicule his sage title I suggest you take it elsewhere. I cant stand people who flame others that are trying to have a discussion.
For anyone reading this far down... Since this post is so far outdated, I would just like to say that if you plan on getting an insta cast Grim Aura item as a melee (Especially Monk), that grim aura does not stack with the Monk Epic effect, nor does it stack with the high level Enchanter hastes (i.e. - Speed of Vallon, Vallon's Quickening, etc.). So if you would like some decent insta clicks that you can use without worrying about haste issues.. Bracer of the Hidden Spyglass Amulet of Necropotence ... That's all I can think of at the moment :P
Jarholi Scalefist 61 Grandmaster of the Swift-Tail -Tunare Server-
If your guild has officers who hand out loot, the officers aren't gonna give a flying fvck about grim aura, because grim aura is crap. The effect does not make it less of a monk wring.
The effect is important b/c it is insta cast, which is useful against mobs w/dispeling AE's. The officers would likey take this into account when awarding the loot (I know mine would...) and, though it's still nice for monks, this would tend to direct such a ring in another direction.

Posted:Oct 15 2001 at 5:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I hate posting on what is for what class but when I saw the stats of this lil gem I knew it was perfect for hybrids. Mostly SK and PL. At these levels your not really going to need grim aura due to stacking/better buff issues. This would not default to a main tank. Mandicus is a fool and does not have characters of sufficient level to attain these items he complains about, quite obviously. Sage, haha I think not.
This has been going to hybrids and now casters with us (I intend to take the next one and I'm a cleric). Warriors have never really been interested in it.. why? Because it gives less hp than ring of the sky, not to mention Dain quest ring of Vulak ring. Yeah yeah sure it has stamina, but all our warriors are at 200+ stamina unbuffed as it is. We _ALWAYS_ have a shaman on raids so 205 sta is absolute max to have or it'll be going to waste with riotous health.
Casters don't have that high sta usually so they gain more hp, get use of the mana and get the ac.
Alas class doesn't mean anything when we distribute loot except in some extreme circumstances (primal 1hb and primal spears only ones where we give dibs to certain classes)
Having a wood elf warrior, I'd love this ring for the AC and Stamina. Yes, there are other rings that are better, but I wouldn't pass on this one if I got a chance for it... 200 stamina is not easy to get for a wood elf. At least, that's been my experience. (Naked STA of 75, STA of 128 with standard gear, less with resist gear)
First off, if most of you people think you'll ever see this ring drop, you're wrong. Second it's best for any class, but should go to a warrior. Third, if you think that because items also have + mana they should go to casters yer crazy.
Lets see, how pissed would people be if I looted a cloak of piety off trakanon? There's kind of an unwritten rule that noone gets tank loot till all the tanks in your guild have better. This is obviously tank loot for the time being. When your tanks get something better, maybe you'd have a chance at this ring. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent caster ring that i'm sure any of us would die for, but dude its 10ac 15sta 40 hps... what are your tanks wearing?
By the time you can get this ring, you have a finely honed lvl 57+ army of at least 30 people with mostly epics and near full kael or skyshrine. Everyone will probably have at least 100 to each resist and epic, so denying a tank an upgrade to their 6ac 65hp ring is just silly.
If anyone says this is a monk item I'll smack you. =P I'd pay to see any guild give this ring to anyone but a warrior, that'd be quality entertainment. Casters would have more hps than warriors and almost the same ac, and we'd all be casterlicious.
Yes I know there is a 30ac ring that you can get in temple of veeshan, but the chance of you seeing that drop are about the same as winning the lottery. That one would definately go to a warrior =P

Posted:Nov 13 2001 at 8:07 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i have to disagree with you mandicus. i think casters need ac more then tanks (not saying tanks don't need ac,just listen to rest b4 you flame) tanks get hit, they have the hp to take it,casters get hit they get F***ed. and denying a tank an upgrade to the 6ac 65hp rings they've been wearing for the last 30lvls is the same as our 7wis rings.so i say all roll and be happy with who ever gets it cos it'll be put to good use.
What you have to realize, besides that stats on this (everyone can use 15sta and 50hp) is the effect.
Ever been on a dragon raid? Many dragons AoE Dispell. Boom, get dispelled and hit this effect. Its a nice dummy buff. Everyone that raids should have a min of 2 dummy self buffs. You keep these in the first to spell slots, so that your ac/hp/mana buffs dont get blasted by the AoE.
There are other easier to get items that have this effect (like the shrunking goblin skull earring) but it limits the amount of stuff you need to carry.
Diff between this and the Ring of the Sky is only 10hp to a 60 warrior. 15sta is I think 90hp +40hp is 130. Ring of the Sky is 90hp+5sta(30hp) 120hp. Most warr's will prob kick this down to casters because at 40 mana, its the 3rd or 4th best +mana ring you can wear.
Whoops I forgot to taunt, tehehe, just to make sure you use it. Whoops you died =/ Watch out I think you might anger clerics on this one. The more hp the tanks have the more effecient complete heal is. Casters can have Ring of the Sky but I think the sta SCREAMS tanks here so hands off.
Um I can see why you posted anonymous. Please don't post gibberish like this again it clogs the boards.
1) Lvl 60 necro should have over 2k hp unbuffed. 2) This ring is a tank ring (Yes I'm an enchanter and would love it but the sta does tanks WAY better than it does me, 15 sta is wasted on casters) 3) Go play your necro solo cuz you'll never see this ring :P.
Stamina gives different HP to different chars.. both based on their CLASS and their LEVEL. E.G. for a level 60 warrior, this ring will give 130 HP. Warriors get 1 HP per stamina * level/10 (rounded down, 1 min.) so level 60 warriors get 6 HP per stamina. Casters only get like 2 HP per STA...
Bloggz the Champion 60 Warrior - Clan Icewind - Zebuxoruk
I would never roll against a tank on this. A lot of tanks at this level are still wearing 6ac 65hp rings. Which I sell by the way (shameless sales pitch).

I am slowly getting sick about all/all items (eyepatch of plunder) automatically getting the "tank only" sticker because it has some form of haste on it .... everyone just disregards MANA items. Of course it is a great necro item ... and enchanters geat beat up frequently too.
The STA stat doesnt improve the useability of a wurmslayer.
I'm an enchanter, and while a lot of great items from this area default to casters (ring of superiority, bracelet of the deep sea), this is clearly a warrior item. The +stamina gives them a lot more health than for others.
i agree that this is a warrior or at least a tank item until most tanks get the equivalent (like ring of the sky which only has like 10hp less at lvl 60). For casters it would probably be more beneficial if you just get the ring of the shissar (the emp key for Ssra) and the shadel bandit ring, both of which require less time to get and more of them can be gotten in a much shorter length of time (Aary only spawns once per week, remember) So yeah, although i am a total HP-freak-battle-chanter, i would still want this to go to someone that can make more use of it (hybrids exist too you know, they use both mana and hp so that problem is solved hehe :) Anyway, just my opinion, if any caster gets this im very jealous of you hehe!

But the 40 hp and 15 STA would make this a great necro item. The 10 AC is nice for getting hit (since I know I can't take any hits), and it gives free extra mana!
