I've had one for ages now, and it had been a long time since I'd tried to do a comparative parse to see whether the rate of fire made up for the low damage while headshotting. I'm still running additional parses, but here's a short version:
- Level 100 - Most relevant AAs - Prescient Fleeting Quiver - Full rank 2 self buffs - 203% haste per character UI - Full suit of level 100 gear - Bow damage only - Spell casting exclusively for crowd control, no additional archery spells - City of Bronze citizens and merchants for testing ground
Bow of the Destroyer with Ancient Arrows and no augs (33/17 effective) outparses Arx Wood Recurve Bow with Ancient Arrows, Stone of Sharpening, and Frosted Topaz (192/23 effective) both in raw DPS and in fight duration.
To give a more accurate depiction with my own headshot style, I'm now running a larger parse sample. Today was Bow of the Destroyer, with an average fight duration of 30.67 seconds across 115 fights. Tomorrow I'll give the Arx a run and see how it holds up.

After some minor gear changes and AA purchases, I've decided to start the parses over and keep an updated running tally on this reply. This is just during normal grinding in City of Bronze against the citizens and merchants along the entire perimeter inside with walls.
Total fights: 413 Total time fighting: 11073 Average fight length: 26.8 seconds
Bow of the Destroyer with no augmentations, no other gear changes (33/17 effective):
Total fights: 407 Total time fighting: 12472 Average fight length: 30.6
Other notes:
- Parsed using GamParse, fight duration added and averaged manually - No relevant AA or level changes since initial post - All Arx fights were performed prior to any BoD fights - Kill 383 with Bow of the Destroyer evolved Glowing Stone Tear to Heavy Stone Tear. This shouldn't have any statistically significant impact

Total fights: 115 Total time fighting: 3528 Average fight length: 30.67
Arx Wood Recurve Bow
Total fights: 115 Total time fighting: 3384 Average fight length: 29.42
Some noteworthy comments:
- Sample group is still small - Due to aug proc in the Arx breaking root early, there was considerably more time spent casting crowd control and the occasional emergency heal - On the other hand, root breaking early in the 10% and lower range meant many double damage bow shots - I seem to have a much, much higher rate of landing Finishing Blow with the Arx than with the Destroyer, even accounting for only those mobs that hang out in the 10% and lower health range - Atypically high rate of headshot while using the Arx for this parse set, definitely impacted fight duration. Many fights under 10 seconds from back to back headshots, one fight was death-on-pull - Once I've got my 12 damage aug from new Crypt of Decay in place of the Frosted Topaz and not breaking root anymore, I may run a longer term parse - DPS not posted because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter with the DPS is; much of it is wasted on the dead

Has anyone seen this bow drop recently? Dagarn has been camped and killed continuously for some time on the Rathe and after more than a dozen kills in a row the bow has not dropped. Starting to think they must have nerfed this drop.
I picked this up off of Fabled Dagarn the Destroyer Tuesday morning around 1am on Luclin server, I caught him up after that 24 hour maintenence(a number of hours after server came back up). My first and only kill I was thrilled to have it. 77 ranger when received.
I hope to catch him up again to get another of these medieval machine guns for a friend, but it's safe to assume picking up a second bow(not to mention catching him up at all) is like hoping for an earthquake during a hurricane, just plain unlikely.
Any bow can headshot, but time, as they say, is money. You can clear the typical headshot spot with a 24 delay bow, but putting them down faster is always better.
I'd reccomend this bow to anyone, and I hope those camping Dag get it.
Happy Headshotting. And good luck rangers. - Raedil Down, 82 Ranger, Luclin
Am I the only to notice that it says skill: 1hs attack in a range slot? So with that logic, does that mean the bow slashes when you fire, or that the arrows have a slashing attack modifier rofl. Nice either way, but I'll stick with my current bow. Fun to fool around with, but I'd never take such a weak hitter..even with the best aug.
Are there any rangers left that actually know how to play a ranger (shy of myself and a few scant ancient vets here and there)? I swear I've never seen so many PL'd idiot newbs blabbing about HS this..HS that..to them I say STFU and go back to whatever class you started on. If you play a ranger and all you can do is range undercons all day, well I'm sorry but you just plain suck. Period. HS should be a last resort, not your primary means of killing..besides even a quick bow like this one pales in comparison to a half-second cast time (or less) of an archery-based spell that will hit your mob with a headshot far quicker that any bow in EQ. The more you know, the less stupid you look to people who know better. A real ranger can melee as well as they range. A wannabe ranger sits in a green-con zone thinking they are something special b/c they can kill a trivial mob with a HS lmao...morons. I guess they are too used to playing X-box or PS3 and the instant gratification that goes along with not having to actually develop a character.
Haha, my guess is you either dont have the bow, or your affraid Sony is gonna nerf HS because of the new players. All classes get this when a skill is OP, same with SKs swarming. If you made a SK, are you telling me you are not gonna swarm. Some people have played another class 13 years and make an alt ranger, so sure they will use the easy skills to get levels and AA, and so would you MORON.
No, actually I wouldn't, because unlike you and so many others who have no patience and are instant gratification junkies..I enjoy the content of EQ. If you'd just take your time and enjoy the content of the game, instead of trying to level to 100 overnight or get all your aa's through HS, then maybe you'd see my point...this is EVERquest..not INTSAquest...and I'm the moron? Go back to WoW newb. Yes I have this bow..and yes it hangs on my wall in my house where it belongs at my level. I couldn't give a **** less if they nerf HS. Actually I'd welcome it..there's too many crappy rangers out there as it is. Sk's shouldn't need to swarm..rangers shouldn't need to HS...but it is what it is. If that pisses you off..c'est la vie :P
Killed Dagarn 4 or 5 times without seeing this bow over he last month or so. Killed Fabled Dagarn tonight. He did not drop the bow.......I'm still wondering if this thing still drops at all.

Posted:Aug 10 2004 at 2:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i have this bow on my ranger and i would say it is most likely the same dps as a stonewood. the stonewood has a higher damage/delay ratio than the BotD but the BotD is faster so it has more chances to add your damage bonus for the bow and the arrow. In the end you either see big chunks of hp missing on the mob or a faster gradual loss of hp on them. It still really ends up being the same.
Great Situational Bow for Ranger, Flashy Toy for Warrior or
As someone who tries to play their ranger to his fullest potential, sure, I'd want this bow. A ranger at higher levels needs a number of different bows for different situations... your 250 range cultural bow with a 170 range arrow means you can hit from well beyond missile range, spell range, practically even aggro range. =) For typical killing after 61, you want a featherwood compound bow or primordial driftwood compound bow. When you really want to hit hard, you want a stonewood compound bow.
Where you want this bow is soloing. With Headshot and Endless Quiver AA, a Fleeting Quiver, and 40 or 41% haste, you will mow down greenies, light blues and even lower level dark blues mighty fast. The more arrows you put out, the more opportunity for that 32K hit. With a primordial driftwood bow I mow through Dulak's and Nadox and Sebilis pretty quick... with this little number, I could make 65 wizzy farmers weep.
If there is a choice of who this bow should go to in an NToV raid, the Headshot ranger should logically get first dibs. This is icing for a warrior or rogue. For a ranger, it makes him a viable farmer and soloist in zones where he can still get decent AA xp with it.
It would be interesting to see this bow with the Force of Ykesha (125dd + stun) augment on it, though I suspect that would get you summoned and squashed pretty fast. Even without an aggro process, when you are in a dungeon zone, you can end up getting a wee bit too much hate with a good bow (as I discovered when I did 7100 damage to the fabled solusek goblin king in 12 seconds with a primordial driftwood bow, blessed champion arrows, a fleeting quiver, swiftwind, speed of vallon, and trueshot disc).
Now if only undead, cragwalkers, geonids, giants, rockhoppers, and wyverns were considered "humanoid"

I'm looking at this bow for a 91 ranger. In 2012, does Fleeting Quiver, EQ or any kind of haste really increase your probability of successful headshots? I was told that when one has EQ, the quiver haste does not stack.
And on to something specific: Quiver haste is borked, has been for a long time. The newest ('fastest') quiver actually decreases your archery DPS in many cases. EQOutrider has a lot of info about it, look HERE to get a feel for the issue.
EQ (Endless Quiver) shouldn't matter. I think Headshot is a proc-like effect, so even hastes of any type therefore wouldn't affect the proc rate, but Weapon Affinity, Combat Effects, and the like would. Trick shot may help, depending on whether the proc rate is adjusted for it or not, as it is for haste effects. The way I remember it, Weapon Affinity was when I finallly started seeing a better rate of Headshots, and of course the Hail of Arrows line of spells. Since Headshot now only works on the current target, AEs like HoA don't really help that much, but probably still do increase the rate, just not like before, where you could get 4 Headshots on a single HoA cast. I'm sure if you look into it at the EQOutrider web-site, you'll be able to find the information.
Sorry, I didn't give an answer with certainty, but it's been quite a while, and recent (last year or two) parses are shedding new light on the situation, bugs and all.

OMG - I want this bow! 17 delay, Swift Spirit, Fleeting Quiver, and Headshot... I'll be mowing down Umbrous Toilers and Grimlings by the dozen - 250 Fletching, here I come!
I just got this bow last night also, and I can tell you with Swiftwind, Fleeting Quiver, and Vallons it is incredibly fast. There is no delay at all between arrows, they fly as fast as I can click ( ok maybe .3 second delay). The only bad part about this bow is I dont have EQ yet and ran out of arrows in no time. But this has at least answered my question to go for Archery Mastery or Endless Quiver first.

62 ranger here. Picked it up last night so it wouldn't rot and decided to give it a shot.
EQ, AM1, fleeting quiver, swiftwind, prismatic(avatar), eyepatch of plunder.
normal hits are between 45-90. common lows are down to 3 & 4. common highs 150+, uncommon highs around 250. On a dragon in Ntov with trueshot high crit was 568.
all in all, not bad at all for the amount of dmg and the quickness of it. i'm putting it away til i get AM3 though. i'm already impressed with it, can't wait to play with it again in 13aa
I've never seen a bow before with delay under 30. In the high end game, in which rangers use bows to do lots of damage, would a delay this low be desirable? Or would you want a good ratio with high delay for the dmg bonus? Not knowing what crits and cripples are based off of (dmg, dmg bonus, dex, the color of your shoes) I wouldnt know.
Haste cap or not I'ld like to see what a endless quiver/ max aaxp in bow skills ranger with a 15 damage or better arrow in his ammo slot would say about using this bow along with the others.
actually, there is no delay cap, but there is a haste cap. at 60 with quiver + item + spell haste, your haste is capped at 100% (2x the attack frequency). not sure if haste caps increase 61+. the only way you'll clear 100% is through bard v3 haste/overhaste("ervaj" and "battlecry of the vah shir" songs only), or through overhaste AAs/discs. monks have an overhaste /disc. rangers get the PoP AA 48 second wolf form overhaste.
so, to my knowledge, the haste cap has remained the same, but you can break it with overhaste. oh, and it's pretty cool that with the PoA ranger cloak (50% clicky spell haste) and our epic (40% item haste) and a Fleeting Quiver (20% bow haste), we will always be pegged at the haste cap when using a bow. and we'll come within 10% of it when not.
Actually, the haste cap is for melee. For bows the melee haste cap applies as far as spells/items/songs, but then you can ADD the quiver haste. So, if your haste cap is 74%, and you have 22% haste item and a 60% haste spell on, you'll have 74% haste swinging your sword. But then I get 11% haste from my quiver, so my bow will be at 85% haste. Quiver haste will push you over level haste cap
Windsaber is 23/13 Using swiftwind and AQ haste, thats down to 11.5/13 (Assuming max haste of 100%) This bow is 17/10 Using Swiftwind with AQ haste thats down to 10/10 (no delay below 10)
The maximum damage with this bow for a normal, moving target, is 87.25 Static Target 174.5 TS Static Target 349 The Best Damage with WindSaber is 102.1/204.2/408.4
(I have used the 10 dam arrows, but eliminated the elemental damage for now)
Comparing just the delay for a moment, 11/5 vs 10 with max haste, yes the Bow of the Destroyer is slightly better, however that 3 damage makes a huge difference at L60.
Incedentally, with 105% haste, the delay's would be virtually identical...
The 'delay 10 haste cap' is a myth, btw. Delay CAN go below 10, problem is most parsers use 1 sec increments, which just happens to be a delay of 10. EQMonks has parsed out haste well below 10. A fully hasted lvl 60 monk using epic fists has a delay around 8 in fact.
issue 1: swiftwind does not do jack for bow haste. that's what quivers are for, FQ most notably. however, the 30atk portion of swift spirit will increase bow dmg.
Well, i don't have my Swiftwind yet, but i can tell you one thing. I do have a Velium Swiftblade and its Haste DOES effect the speed of my bow. I have the Windsaber. With Swiftblade equiped, my bow speed is noticable, vs having FBSS on or no haste at all. If you don't believe me, get yourself a Velium Swiftblade and try it. i'm fairly certain you will like the results.
Just my 2 copper
Zarlore Bladespinner CO-Leader Justice De`Ardor Guild Veeshan Server
Couldn't say it better....if you want insane haste on your bow, then get a velium swiftblade and a FQ. i jsut got a velium light bow and the relay time is less that a second per shot and damage anywhere between 20 and 80 and crits as high as 215 w/o trueshot disc. and that's with summoned arrows! now as far as swiftwind....haven't gotten it yet, but from what i believe, the velium swiftbalde has 40% haste. IMO it is a good thing to invest in if you are one to use a bow a lot.
congrats to the person who got this bad boy (ranger hopefully...) gonna be able to bow kite like mad now :P not to mention the nice array of stat plus' on this.
I have no information about this disclpline and was wondering where you all got the info..if you could tell me anythihg it would be great..but as it stands i am a 54 ranger and thought that rangers never got any disclplines
a ranger hit lvl 59, get Endless Quiver (alternate advancement) with one of the new 10 damage (+4 fire OR cold OR magic) arrow... so we have the 10 damage of the bow + 14 damage of the arrows... dunno if you got a damage bonus (let say no for purpose of calculation)...
You get a 24 damage 17 delay bow... ratio 0.708...
Now a primal with the same ammo would have 47 damage 35 delay... ratio 0.744...
0.708 is a better ratio then 0.744 right?
(windsaber would be 0.814 with the same arrows...)
And for those who say the +4 could be resisted, true... but I would keep one of each...
Only problem is I got no reliable infos on the endless quiver... the theory I suggested is based on info from eqcasterrealms, here, the safehouse, ranger glade... etc... (theory is endless quiver will "reproduce" the exact same kind of arrow you just shot...)
I also know primal have more stats... and lvl 59 is kinda high etc etc... but I can still dream of the damage output I would get...
Your analysis is basically correct, only problem so far is that the warriors and rogues I know are reporting problems with elemental damage on crits and backstabs, namely that it doesn't seem to get multipied.
So until I hear otherwise I'm gonna have to assume that this here uber bow is at best is (20/17) X Trueshot goodness +4 elemental damage rather than the otherway around.
Why are you all whining about the cost of arrows? Anyone 50+ can go to any mid-range zone and come out an hour later with a couple hundred plat in stuff to sell: FS weapons, lowbie drops that sell (jagged bands anyone?).
Spend the money on good arrows! Its worth it with this bow! I plan on using AT LEAST 5 damage arrows on any big hunt: Trak, Western Wastes dragons, Kael, etc. And at 55 with TS Disc., I'll be dishing out thousands of points of damage before I EVER get in melee range.
