Level 110 Shaman, doing that quest with about 54 in Research.
Have made all Recipes, the quest log was ok, after the last turn in: "you are not eligible for this test, Please try one of the other tests".

Why not eligible? Got the quest, the quest log updated properly at each step. There is no faction necessary.

It seems, Everbug does not like Northmen from Halas....

Even though it fits in ammo slot, stats are not modified if you put it there, but it will show up in the evolution tab. At present, I can't tell if the research mod will work in ammo, since the 1% on my 62 research nec does not give a visible bonus.

Update and more general info:
- The skill mod works.
- Skill mods of the trophies stack with both geerloks and old trophies and I presume also with the Luclin raid mob drops, but I have yet to confirm this. It would make sense as you can then put this trophy in ammo and the rest in prim/sec/range as you see fit.
- The trophies evolve as follows:
---> The recipe's trivial has to be in the trophies' range and be not trivial for you. Refer to the quest info for a specific trophy to see the range. For beginner to evolve, recipe's trivial has to be within 50-100.
---> You have to successfully make the combine.
---> Failures do not evolve the trophy even if you skill up.
---> As far as I can tell, yellow gives 4%, darkblue combines give 2%, lightblue 1% as they are unmodded.

Corrections for you

- The skill mod works even in the ammo slot.
- Skill mods of the trophies do not stack with geerloks or old trophies
- The trophies evolve as follows:
---> The recipe's trivial has to be not trivial for you.
---> Con of the trivial has nothing to do with how fast the trophy evolves.

As I am just doing it, and have seen there is no info about here, I will give you the first steps (will give you the second ones, when I have done them:

-) Create 2 Ink of the Nameless using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Ink of the Monkey using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Ink of the Pain using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Quill of the Divine using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Ink of the Erudite using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Quill of the Knight using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Ink of the Boar using tradeskills
-) Create 2 Quill of the Arcane using tradeskills
-) Create 8 Celestial Cleaners using tradeskills
-) Create 10 Vials of Pure Water using tradeskills

you have to equip it and then do combined which are a higher trivial than what you are then it will gain xp and eventually evolve.
