Made this today and 56k (200 velium bars) later found out it would not combine with an enchanted velium bar :( It would however combine with a velium bar that was not enchanted.

Was this on progression server? If so, what server and what expansion is that server currently in?
The only people that I see here complaining about the high price are non-jewelers. Do you have any idea what the failure rate on these are? Velium cost 220pp and the BD from a vendor is 262pp = 482pp. I am a GM jeweler, I have my trade skill trophy with a 5% mod and a Geerlok with a 2% mod and aa's in JCM. I am maxed int, wis and dex. It is not unusual to have 3 or 4 failures and only a few successes. Do the math. I sell them for 950 on RZ so if I have 2 failures and 1 success, I have lost plat.
I have to agree, not just JC however. Smithing Alchemy, tailoring and all others in some way cost money when aproaching GM level, the amount of plat that goes on reaching that high is Not simple back pocket change. I think the main thing to remember is the time consumed in gathering the incredients and and combining, time that others spend leveling and making money while we're losing it. Last thing we need is someone, who has just leveled and expected all others to do the skilling for them, come along and expect us to make ANOTHER loss for their FURTHER gain. My simple advice to them is get of your lazy behinds and try it yourselves.
I was thinking of getting a Bracelet of Comprehension but I saw the +10 int aug I can buy in N Ro so I thought I would save about 13.3k and get this and that aug.
Or for enchanters use the +8 int/cha from BB. You won't look as uber when people inspect you but that should keep the beggers away :).
Yesterday(7/10/03) some pirates visited Overthere on Quellious demanding money. Seemed like anyone that dished out pp recieved one of these and a stack of peridot gems. Nice exchange for giving 1pp and they were funny little gnomes too.
At 45 I finally got my pair 'o these at the bazaar last night for under 2k! These are a must have for pvp and exp against casters!!!
hehe all i need now is my windblade... thurg breastplate... lodiz shield... and a 99% haste item that doesn't exist and i'd be uber muahahahaha! lol i wish!
The reason BD's have dropped in price so dramatically from 3-4k on most servers to 800pp-1k is that they drop all the time in PoP, the nighstalker camp in PoN for example can easily yield 1 BD an hour, and Ive heard of people getting 4 in an hour, and the entire camp is soloable.
The price of BDs, IMHO, is getting out of hand. Sure, you can make nice new cultural armor with them, but it takes 2 or 3 BDs per item just for a CHANCE at creating the armor. At 3K per BD, that's 6K minimum for 1 attempt, with less than a 50% success rate no matter now high your tailoring is. This puts the "retail" price of such gear well beyond what you would expect to pay for much better mob-dropped gear.
I myself have given up tailoring because of this. I will never be able to afford to make that armor, and its because of greedy people jacking the prices of raw materials...
I agree that the price of BD's in the bazaar can be fairly high.
However, remember this: it is not the "greedy" people that are selling that makes them expensive... it's the people (dare I say?) "dumb" enough to pay this much. If people were not paying it, the sellers would not be charging the high prices. The power is in the buyers... stop buying it and the price will come down.
The only way that the price could be high due to "greedy" people would be if all of the sellers got together and price-fixed.
We all know that in reality all of the players selling a given item do not get together and fix the price. There is always someone "greedy" enough to undercut everybody else.
And, no, I am not one of these sellers. I have yet to sell any item to other players.
Lastly, the price of making this jewelry is expensive only if you choose to make it so... no one is forcing you to buy the components from players in the bazaar. You can always get a group together and go hunt the materials. For example, BD's drop in Old Sebilis.
Yes, the mobs that drop BD's are tough. This is why jewelry made from these drops have very good stats.
Prices vary widely depending on server. Since on non-pvp servers, resistances aren't very important until around 45 and above, this isn't a very common place item to be sold. Because the buyers on non-pvp servers are post 45 players, they have more money to spend, and therefore spend it. Whereas, on pvp, it is a more common item. Resistances are very important starting at level 6 in many cases. I don't recommend this for lower levels even on pvp, because of how expensive it tends to be. Even though it is more common (which drives the price down), it is still going to be one of the most expensive pieces of gear you'll own. I recently bought two of these on Rallos Zek for 1200 pp, and I will be very hesitant to stride into battle with them at such a steep price. Though all in all, this improved all of my resistances significantly.
I think you will find them back up to 4k soon. People will pay that much for resist gear, and with the new cultural eating away the BD, the prices will go up.
thre sweet with all the resist but theres no way i would pay 4k for them blue dimonds drop a dime a dozen in seb mabey if it had some wis or int even just a little i would consider paying 4 k but thats just me =)
Out let me start by saying that I have a Jewelcraft skill of 250. It took me 4 tries before I even got ONE to combine.
Now I get blue diamonds for 600pp...I should farm them but im an idiot. So the cost to me is around 850pp. At 4 attempts Im not just breaking EVEN at 3440pp!
Anyone who wants to do this, make sure the buyer gives you the ingredients and willing to pay at least 4K or this isnt worth it.
Think about it, 2 of these and they have 60 mana and +18 to all resists? As a lvl 60, let me tell you thats HUGE. A pair of these should go for at least 15K or more IMHO.
Good luck guys,
Phlanlaster Dreadcaster the Nameless Wizard of the 60th Spire
These things are essential on a pvp server. Everyone has the bracers even at 60 unless you get some nice SS/ToV stuff with an effect and better resists. The diamond rings are also universal, only higher end no-drop dragon loots and the coldain ring series can compare in terms of pvp usefulness. Necklace is so-so...there's a lot of better neck items out there, including the 15 MR, 5 CR/PR/FR neck from Maiden's Eye. Most people get something better for the neck after 50. Earring is also so-so...some people wear an EoE for the MR, some wear one of these and something else. The face is mediocre at best..maybe good for Trak or something. PR/DR aren't the best pvp stats to worry about and for wis casters there is certainly a better face item available for 500pp. The helm totally sucks, I haven't seen anyone ever wearing one of those. Froggy Crown with +20 FR/CR is much much better, heck even a Trannix Crown is better. Froggy Crown also has AC so tanks don't mind wearing it.
I am trying to get my Resists up really high for pvp server could anyone help me with a list of items that would help monk with this and stay below the 14 weight after all is on???!?!?!

3500 is cheap for this... At 223 jewelry skill and people selling the blue diamond for up to 2000 with the velium bar costing over 200 the success rate seems to be about 1 in 4. So cost per attempt can be 1200 to 2000. All those ive made sold easily for 6000 each. And I still lost money.
