I've always wondered why this sword was never Ranger useable.

Not that any Ranger I've ever known has seriously used a 2hder,
its just odd to me that this was never Ranger useable.
weapons with haste on
# Sep 07 2005 at 11:20 AM Rating: Default
weapons with haste on are often considered rubbish (as you could have a better haste on another item, therefore allowing you to use better weapons), however this sword is fairly cheap to buy, which makes it good for level 30 plus berzerkers who can't yet afford a great haste item (lets say they normally use another weapon and silver chitin handwraps for melee), but this 31% haste is fairly high, which makes it useful to bring out when you are using thrown axes (as it will increase their DPS more than your normal silver chitin hand wraps would!).

I guess the same thing could be applied to warriors/paladins/shadowknights with bows (shame rangers can't use it on that basis). As a side note, don't forget that weight reduction on quivers hastes your bows guys!

Increase Kick Speed?

Does anyone know if this will increase the speed a Warrior kicks? Probably doesn't affect a Paladin or SK's casting speed, but if it increases kick rate that would be helpful.

i love this sword and i will continue to use this sword to solo with until i can afford or get lucky and camp a haste item. i currently have a a.p. that i use when i am grping with peps that can haste, but other wise i find that at 47 i usually do more dps with the mith 2hs then with the a.p. do not get me wrong once i get a haste item the mith will be sold or given away to some young pally in need, but untill then i will use it

The maximum haste on this is 31% (that's 31% increase in attacks not 31% less delay) but this weapons Haste is effected by level.
If you want to see this just give it to a 20th level character and then a 30th level one and you can actually time the difference in swings without even parsing it.

After 30th this weapon is effectively a 21/31 weapon but with the full 2hded damage bonus of a 40 delay weapon.

Still a nice weapon for the 30 + crowd. After 40th I'd go for a bigger hitter, myself.

Hey what do u mean exactly by parsing it? and are u saying that the haste is different at lvl 20 than at lvl 30? I was planning to give this to my 15 sk to practice 2hs ... if its a 20/31 weapon then thats pretty fast and good for raising the skill quickly ... but if ure saying the haste is slower at those lower lvls then that sux! so clear this up anyone plz?

The spell is affected by level, on an equipped weapon, there is no change - once it takes affect at level 30 it is always a flat 31% haste.

Argent Defender or Mithril 2hander?
# Dec 17 2002 at 4:37 AM Rating: Decent
My friends and I just recently restarted on Veeshan, I'm a SK, so right now we are getting a bunch of weapons and gear for me. We just got an agent defender which I will use after 20 because of damage caps.( I have and Axe of th Iron Back, same damage atm, 29) I was just wondering, maybe I should sell my Argent defender and buy one of these. Any input would help me greatly, thanks!

RE: NEWB HELP
# Dec 30 2002 at 12:55 PM Rating: Default
This haste does not proc, although you probably have had this answered already. The haste is permanent while equipped just like an FBSS, or other equipped items. You don't have to worry about your dex and level, this will work at level one. Just put it in your primary slot and enjoy. Smiley: yippee

As pointed out in a more recent post, this is incorrect. Worn haste does not take effect until you are level (haste% - 1). So this weapon provides no haste to a character of less than level 30. It provides the full haste of 31% at this level.

Similarly, an fbss having 21% haste has no effect until you are level 20.

Pending Lore means that this screenshot was taken during the week when they were switching items over to the Lore system. When EQ was first released, there were no Lore items. The lore tag was added a few months after release to combat camping. When they did the switchover, there was a week of transition period to allow players with multiple items that were going to be switched to lore to sell them off. This item is lore.
Solo Weapon of Choice

This is definitely my preferred weapon for traveling "solo". Put's out great damage quickly.

Seeing as how my tank is 43 soon to be 44 my soloing days are pretty much over with. The only reason I don't equip this full time is I am working on 1HP at the moment. Once I get that to 175 the "Mith" will be back in play.

Stats after haste
# Aug 15 2002 at 1:37 PM Rating: Default
According to a good friend of mine whom has one of these, this is essentially a 21/28 weapon after you figure in Haste. This is just second-hand information though, so don't ask me for the equations needed to determine the effect of haste.

Btw, I bought this sucker for 250pp thanks to the new Bazaar =).

# Sep 02 2002 at 8:36 AM Rating: Good
Well, I actually figured out how to figure in the haste percent, and this thing is really a 21/30.5 weapon. Still pretty durn nice.

Great for those of us whom used 1HS/1HB for a while but decided to switch to 2HS later on. Raising 2HS can be a pain with 40-50 delay on each weapon.

Got this in a trade the other day, and I was wondering how the damage output would compare with the Blackened Alloy ******* Sword: would the Mithril 2HS have a better performance due to its haste, or would the BABS with a damage rating of 24 (compared to 21 for the Mithril) work better? Delay is comparable for both (39 for BABS), but does the haste on mithril negate the higher damage output from the BABS?

Guess it depends on the length of battle, but any information would be helpful -- could use the cash from selling one of these.

I have owned this sword for about 10 lvls now, (30 to 40) and I must say, it just keeps getting better for me. The delay is around 31%. with STR 155 i'm hitting for a high of 82 and an average of 65 i guess. Both my 1hs and 2hs are maxed at lvl 205 so I decided to compare them.

Using a Sarnak Skullsplitter and a SSOY for 1hs, i was dealing about the same amount of dmg during the whole fight, but it takes a bit longer to kill the mob, even with the SSOY's 75dd proc.

I think the Mithril is best suited for fighting non-casting mobs and tough mobs, while the 1hs is better ffor interrupting the casters. IF you want the fight to be over sooner, especially when soloing, stick with the mithril. I carry all 3 swords on me so I can switch at a moments notice.

BTW, There's an ice cube's chance in hell that you will sell it for 2k on Terris Thule. IT's been about 800pp average now for the past 6 months.

Ever wonder what a weapon will hit for?

Level bonus = (level - 25 / 2)

Max damage = (weapon skill + strenght / 100) x (weapon damage + level bonus)

Example: level 40 Warrior, skill of 200, strenght of 150.

( 200 + 150 / 100) x (21 + 7) = 98 damage

This does not include critical hits or crippling blows.
RE: dmg bonus
# Jul 03 2002 at 7:01 PM Rating: Excellent
i think your formula and your example dont fit:

you write

Level bonus = (level - 25 / 2)

but to get to a lvl bonus of 7 as in your example you would use a formula like this:

Level bonus = (level - 25) / 2

And if you have (40 - 25) / 2 the result is 7.5 Isnt this rounded to 8 (I am not sure here)

does the formula look like this:
Max damage =( (weapon skill + strenght) / 100) x (weapon damage + level bonus)

Your way of notation is less confusing, I would use that if I typed again, thanks.

Maybe they only use whole numbers (ie. 7.99 would be 7) or round down, I don't know really. I just read that from somewhere and was tryin to help a little. It works very close though.

I just got this yesterday and I compared it in combat against my centi shortsword and shield and I can take down mobs in about 1/2 the time it takes with centi. My dmg bonus was 3 at lvl 30 and with the haste effect bringing the delay down around 30 it really makes a great sword, even at high levels because your dmg bonus will be higher and bring the ratio to around 1.00. So at lvl 30 I would estimate my dly/dmg ratio is around 1.25 which is way better than calculated in the item description.

I double attack more than not for about 58 dmg.

Guys I'm not sure what to think about all this. Couldn't help myself not to check my bonus stats on weapons (Pally lvl 30) and here it goes:

Centi SS dmg bonus 1
Centi warhammer dmg bonus 1
BABS dmg bonus 2
BIBS (this is Iron version of BABS 20/42 I think not sure) and dmg bonus of 6!!!!!!

I took all those nubers at lvl 30 and frankly none of your formulas fit here.

Hands down BABS outdamages them all and while wearing it I have STR 145 (STR 150 with either centi). Max I hit with Centi SS was 31 I think and BABS 70 and many times double 68.

The main reason besides posting my figures for the rest of you to crunch is if someone can possibly explain those 6 dmg bonus on BIBS?

Odd thing about measuring haste
# Apr 29 2002 at 4:19 AM Rating: Decent
Many people have taken great pains to measure the hit speed ratio to get an accurate measure of what haste is doing for them. As I look at the information about the effect, I see that haste seems to be progressive according to the level of the person wielding it. I hope someone will go the distance, where as I am too lazy, and see what percentage haste items give at different levels. It would be very interesting to many people if all haste items did about the same speed ratio per level.

Many people smarter than I have tackled this question. From what I can tell, *most* items do not increase in haste as you level, but there *may* be a lower level haste cap that you cannot pass until after a specific level. Also this may have changed a bit since "recomended level" tags have been thrown on a bunch of items.

The information you read about the effect: haste is inaccurate for the most part, as this effect is found on a wide range of items, and most have those items have a max percentage of haste. Also, (once again this information gathered by those more patient than I) actual "haste percentage", meaning how much more often you will hit, differs from "delay reduction percentage", or how much less delay your weapons have while using a haste item.

To boil it down, take the FBSS for example. The "haste" on this item is 21 percent. The actual reduction in delay of your weapons swinging is 17 percent. Check out the Flowing Black Silk Sash, there is a post there that shows how these numbers are obtained.

So the FBSS will never be more than 21 percent "haste", even if you are level 60 using it. When you click on Effect: Haste link in the details of the item, it takes you to the same screen for any item with effect haste and makes it look like all haste items get more haste as you level, up to 50 percent haste at level 50 (or something like that), very confusing. I posted a link a few posts below to a site with some very good haste info, percentages on most items with haste. For that link go here:

Haste Percentage

A few minor things. I've heard 2 haste percentages on this item, 25% and 31%. Personally, I'm thinking its closer to 31% as I've been hitting awful fast for 25%. Second, the guy who calculated the dam/del ratio after haste in a lower post had the wrong percentage, as his math is for a 21% haste, and this item has greater than the standard 21%.

My warrior was using this in the High Keep, and had enchanter speed buffs cast, and a shammie speed buff cast (don't remember the names of the spells, long time ago), and I calculated the delay after all those speed buffs at about a second; the druid and I were counting seconds between blows; and with double attack, I was slicing through the goblins like never before! The rest of my group was stunned with how fast I was slinging that beast of a sword.

This sword's haste is activated when worn. It is constant. It does not stack with any other haste item or spell. It does seem to be affected by Bard Song however. I was 'handed' the sword while standing outside the Freeport Bank one day when I was lev 20. Some guy walked up, handed me the sword and sped off without a word. Nice guy. I am lev 38 now on Ayonae Ro and I still use the weapon when I don't have an enchanter in the group to speed me up. I use heavier damage weapons when an enchanter is about.

Your comment about the haste not stacking with spell haste is wrong. Let me clarify:

There are 3 types of haste; spell, item and bardsong

Multiple haste's of the same class will not stack. For example, a person wielding this sword, while wearing an FBSS will not get both haste effects, just the highest.

However, you can have one haste of each type. Item haste will stack with spell haste, and bardsong. The combination of the three can be amazing.

If this weapon generates the best damage per second, based on ratio and the damage and strength bonuses without chanter haste, then it still will, once you add chanter haste in, because chanter haste will not replace the effect of the sword, it will be added to it.

On the other hand, once you get an fbss, there are lots of swords as good or better than this one. Depending on your strength and level bonuses, even a blackened alloy ******* sword may be better, once you have item haste somewhere else.
RE: Delay
# Jun 24 2002 at 2:58 PM Rating: Decent
I mentioned the non-stackability with spell hastes on this weapon from personal experience. I have had an Enchanter in my group upon several occasions, and they have cast their Celerity on me to improve melee speed. I at first thought that with this weapon AND Celerity I would now be a Quisanart, but alas it seemed to have no improvement at all. However twice when grouped with a level 44 Bard, he brought out a haste song that did have a noticeable affect while using this sword. Does anyone else have experience such as this?
RE: Delay
# Jun 06 2002 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
You are mostly correct. Perhaps "bardsong" is refering to the 51+ line of battlecry/warcry but those are the only 2 stacking hastes bards get. The bard hastes that are 30 and 45% do not stack with other hastes.

Hey, couple things first enc and shammy haste buffs don't stack second it's not a beast of a sword it's dmg is 20 points lower than my 2hs with only 10 more dly tho good for a loow lvl ( very loow lvl) person this sowrd isnt good at all when you need pure dmg IMO 2hs is not too spectacular ne ways ( tho i have it trained to my current max of 200 along with 1hs and 1hb) I see it's advangtages in ceartain situations , but i recomend at lvl 44+ to be equipped with at least a goranga club and a centi LS it's not hard to get the club and the LS is only 3k plat not too hard to save up plus thier price is going down each day. just in my opinion .....(begin falming...now!)
RE: Delay

The reason chanter and shammy haste don't stack is because they are the exact same spells.

chanter haste > shammy haste

shammy slow > chanter slow

RE: Delay
# Jun 03 2002 at 8:10 AM Rating: Decent
No they're not. In most cases, the better spell will overwrite the poorer one. With regards to chanter and shammy haste spells, chanter haste will overwrite shammy haste, but shammy haste will NOT overwrite chanter haste. If they were the same spell, this wouldn't happen.

You are correct that chanter haste > shammy haste though.

Actually, for the most part, shammy haste and chanty haste ARE the same spells.... Enchanters just get them at a lower level. So a level 45 enchanter will have a better haste spell than a level 45 shaman. Enchanters get additional spells that have added effects other than haste, but the pure haste spells are the same, they just get them at different levels.

The slows, however, are completely different.
