I got one today off an apprentice herbalist near the herbalist house in Chardok. He had it equiped and it was clearly an unusual looking 2 hand slashing weapon. You'll know a mob has something unusual when you see this in his hands.
I just bought this. Won't tell you how much I paid because I want to make a profit :-). Will tell you that with PoP, Verant made it very desireable to keep your 2HS skill up:
1. A Planar Ability that gives us a chance at a third swing (triple attack) when using 2 handed weapons. 2. Awesome plane dropped 2 handed slashers, like the Plankton Laced Greatsword: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=18104
My 2HS skill is at like 183, even though I'm now 44. My brother is an Enchanter, so with this and Boon of the Garou, I proc lifetap and Call of Sky a lot more often while doing nearly the damage of a pretty good 1HS pair. I will, however, switch back to my Blade of Scenshal and my Venomous Axe of the Vellium Brood as soon as 2HS is maxed. Then I'll sell this in the bazaar for a profit.
I payed 50pp for one that I gave to my Ranger to get 2hs up those last few points. Done with it now, will prolly give it to the first deserving newbie I see...which means I could have it a while.
The item drops in Chardok dear. You will need to get a good group of level 50s to get the item for yourself, or you can speand about 500pp in the bazaar to get yourself one. It iis a splendid tool for you to keep your 2HS skill up, and until you gain a few more levels and get your dual weild skill.
Prices vary per server of course, but this will remain with the average ranger until around level 45. A wise investment
Like many I was blinded by the "Ranger's should only use 1hs/dual" advice I kept getting from practically everyone, and so EVERYTHING except 1hs skill was left at an abysmal skill level (and all blunt skills at zero). Then I wised up, there are just situations when non-1hs weapons are preferable and some smart rangers on postings made some valid arguments. So I started a campaign to repair the damage, starting with 2hs (along with archery, too much time spent in dungeons). I dumped a lot of skill points into 2hs, bought a babs and then one day found this. This is the perfect weapon to skillup 2hs on since it swings so often. It's obscenely fast for a 2hs, faster than centi's and better ratio than either... did damage/sec on par with dual centi's in the high 30's. I can sometimes get 4 swings in with double atk between pally/sk 2hs slower but powerful swings and sum up to same or more damage from just frequent hits. This is a keeper until I get the skill capped (at 190 now), wish I had it much earlier, would have saved me dumping a lot of training points in 2hs. Now to find some fast blunts and piercers.
True 1hs/dual will ALWAYS and FOREVER be my primary damage dealing combo in general and for good reason. But for those situations of fighting mobs with damage shields, controlling agro (esp when low on mana), and a few other peculiar situations, I'm glad to have this sword and skill in it now. Plus even though it has no mods, this sword still rocks... swings often enough to proc more often when i got my 39 call of sky spell. Also fits in with my concept of rangers doing fast furious damage with fast weaps. And don't diss this sword just cuz you have something better.... it may outlive it's usefulness to me one day soon but for my use for it there is none better.
Why to 2hs? Well if you're like me you may not always have a loaded Warrior around to take all the damage and probably not a shaman to slow either.....So, I take out my trusty Swarmcaller (2hs) and bang away on the mob until it procs (40%ish slow) and then switch to my higher damage weapons which in my case is a Woodsmans Staff 31-35 2hb. After slowing the mob I just beat them senseless with my better weps. So if your 2hs isn't trined up you may not have this little perk.
Silver Swifty is a superb 2hs trainer and I grab it at every ding and smak mobs around until 2hs is maxxed.
I see a lot of peeps saying that duel wield is the end all be all of a rangers existance - and perhaps when u start getting primal drops and stuff, it may be. But there are several reasons I may decide to go 2h for a ranger. One is the agro. I currently use a 2hb, and my agro control is awesome. I can take agro from anyone in about 4 sec and give it back in 2 jolts. Using 2 weapons would give u agro when u don't want it, or force u to cast jolt more. Another reason to us a 2h weapon is damage. My current duel weapons are a Green Jade Broadsword and a CSS ( I was using a Lupine Dagger and a Shaded Staff, but I was getting too much agro, and wolf form was kiling me when I wasn't paying attention to where I was and remembering I had it on lol). My current 2hb is a Lunar Maul (which although I submitted it to Alla's 2 months ago still isn't up doh) - 27 38 +6 cold damage 14 dex, 12 str, 10 agi, 7 sta, 6 cha, 75 hps, 15 sv cold and weighs 4 stones. This thing rocks vs. a DS (as any 2h would do) and also give me less agro for more damage than duel wielding. With 122 dex and 201 str I hit from 22-170, usually around 80-120.
Another factor to consider when training yer skills and deciding what to use is simple accessability. While it's great to say "the ultimate ranger needs to have xxxxx weapons and max out xxxxx skills..." umm if yer like me u take what u can get, and work with em. I'm certainly in favor of keeping all yer weapon skills maxed or close to it - as a ranger we have access to a good variety of weapons. When I got my SSB I had about 10 skill in 2hs - when I got my Lunar Maul I had 0 skill in 2hb doh. U never know what can come yer way. :)
You likey da 2hb? Try a woodsman's staff, great for us treehuggers 31/35 makes your maul pale in comparrison. Also hits very hard very fast. Just looks like crap

Try reading next time Droog. He said he has a 50 warrior on test and he made a ranger on another server. I'm pretty sure just because he has 2 characters doesn't mean one of them is him and one of them isn't him. He used it on his ranger (No brainer).
Some dude tried to sell me this thing in Drinals NFP for 2.5k today!!!!! Why did I not jump at the deal???? Really though this would be a great weapon to keep the 2hs up with.
This weapon was made for a few specific encounters where a mob has a massive attack AE debuff, like Aaryonar in ToV. You will hit for the minimum almost every swing in these encounters, and so fast weapons are great, since the majority of your damage is from DB. Since at 60 all 1hs have a DB of 11, and the offhand swings slower than the mainhand, even if you are using two 18 delay weapons, this weapon will end up doing more damage due to having a DB of around 30 at 60.
Other than that it is nice to keep up 2hs.

This thing is terrible!
Ok, I am about to disagree slightly with the above post. Rather than just post my opinion, I will try to back it up with some calculations that I have borrowed from other posts on this site.
First some background information. I have only been on EQ for about 2 months now, having bought it around the end of December. Victorex is my main character, he's a Wood Elf ranger who is level 31 as of this post. He's had a couple of items given to him that were very helpful at the time, specifically Dwarven Ring Mail at level 12 and a Berserker's sword at level 15. Most everything else he has was bought using hard earned cash, so he is not what anyone would consider a "twink". In fact many of you higher levels would probably laugh at his equipment. He currently has three weapons available to him:
Elder Wolf Jawbone 11d 29dly Short Sword of Morin 6d 22dly Silver Swiftblade 16d 24dly
The Swiftblade was won on a roll in EC from a guy who auctioned for any Rangers in the zone to come and compete for it. I won with a roll of 94.
So, which should he carry, the Swiftblade or dual wield the Jawbone and SSoM? In trying to determine this I used the following formula (borrowed from another post on this site):
60/delay * (2 * damage) = damage output in 1 min
A delay of 29 would be 2.9 in the calculation.
Notice I have left out the damage bonus for simplification. The bonus on the Swiftblade at lvl 31 is 3, it is 2 I think for the Jawbone. My understanding is that the damage bonus only applies to the weapon in primary hand. Since the SSB swings faster it would actually benefit more with the bonus figured in, but in the interest of simplicity I have dropped that part of the calculation.
Now, assuming that this formula is correct (yes, I know, anything you read is suspect, but from looking at my damage output it seems close, if not dead on) then while wielding the EWJ in primary I should see damage approximating the following:
60/2.9 * (2 * 11) = 455.17 in one minute
With the SSoM in offhand the MAXIMUM I could do, assuming I dual wield successfully 100% of the time (I know I don't, my dw is only at 160, as is my 1hs, but to simplify things we'll go with 100%), then the damage output for my offhand would be
60/2.9 * (2 * 6) = 288 in one minute
Notice I used the same delay as the EWJ in primary. The reason I did this is that I have read on other posts that when dual wielding is below 200, your offhand is tied to your primary. In other words, the dw skill is only checked when your primary swings. So, even though the delay on the SSoM is faster then the EWJ, it will still only hit when:
a) the EWJ swings, and b) when I pass the dual wield check
Now, with the above assumptions in mind, then the most damage I would ever do in one minute with this dual wield combination is:
EWJ 455.17 + SSoM 288 = 743.17 per minute
More realistically, assuming I really only dual wield about 60% of the time at my level (I'm basing this on experience, not any hard facts, so I would appreciate some clarification if anyone knows how to calculate it), then the damage output from the SSoM would probably be closer to:
As you can see, I do more damage with the SSB than dual wielding the other two swords I have, provided my 2hs skill is the same as my 1hs and dual wield (which it is in my case).
Now, go ahead and send all the posts you want about how my EWJ and SSoM are horrible weapons for me at my level. If you feel strongly enough about it to flame me, why don't you just give me a couple thousand plat so I can equip myself up to your standards? I currently have the best equipment that I was able to buy, and since this is my main, I don't have a higher level char to farm stuff and make loads of cash. I am currently working on upgrading, but at this point in time have less than 100pp. I figure by the time I'm in my mid 30's I can get some better equipment, but until then I make do with what I have. In this case, I'll be using the SSB until I get a few more plat in the bank.
Sorry about the long post, I hope this information will help out other people who are in a similar situation. If any of you have any corrections or CONSTRUCTIVE criticism you'd like to offer, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
Actually it's pretty good if you aren't extremely lucky, or can deal well. I used SSoM until about 26, so you're doing ok. I actually am looking for an SSB because i need to up my 2hs skill for all those mobs that DS themselves, so nice weap situation.
This is a nice weapon.I'm currently using one at lvl 10, and i can kill high yellows, low reds with ease.Personally, i would take this over duel wield anyday. Now dont flame me about"Use Duel wield! or Rangers shouldnt use 2hs".One should play the game the way they want. Thank you
I picked one up for 300 today for my 24 ranger, I am ecstatic. My 2hs was already in the 90's, and I have gained 10 skill points in 1 bub of exp. I will still keep my 1hs and pierce maxed also (I know I should get 1hb up, but haven't found a cheap fast one to work it up with) but this weapon is still awesome for the level. I wouldn't pay 2k for it, but if you find a desparate seller, get it!
ok ok ok, I know everyones saying how rangers shouldn't even waste time on 2hs, and how theres much better 2hs weaps out there to waste time on if we wanted too. BUT, in my experience with EQ (starting abut 1 week after original release) I've found that the best weapon in the game is the one that makes your char what you want him to be. In all my days of pe and paper RPing, I always had a Vission (TM) of what rangers were, and duel wield wasn't there, so I say ***** stats, ***** ratio's, ***** Verant, paly your char the way you want, even if it means 2hs and only leather type armor. POWWA TO DA PEEPLE
To dual wield, or not to dual wield. IT really doesn't matter. I have this beast to work on 2hs. Was a gift from a friend, and I can't think of a cooler 2hs to own. When I dual wield I use a short sword of morin and a wakizashi of frozen skies, so my damage output isn't way up there, but I do ok.
Anyone who says this weapon is crap hasn't ever used one before, and probably isn't a Ranger. Who cares about stamina dropping like it fell off a cliff? That's what Invigor is for.
I agree with all who dig the look of this sword. It is indeed pretty badass. With Call of Sky, I've actually had people comment that they didn't think the swiftblade had a proc. <g>
Uber in my book. I look like a complete badass hauling this thing through a dungeon.
I agree this is not the greatest ranger weapon, and their are duel weild combonations that are just as good if not better, but still this weapon does kick *** and u cant deny it,plus i got it and an ebony bladed sword for 500pp so i dont rly care.....
Okay. We all know about the rep that rangers have for not being tanks at high end of the game (no disrespect) so aside from the fact that a 2hs, even a fast one like this, would not take the aggro from the main tank, why would a ranger want this wep instead of dual wield?
I would think that a 1hs / shield combo could still provide the same/or close damage output as this wep while providing additional AC. But like I said, why would a ranger NOT want dual wield?
Pure and simple, this weapon is awesome for peeps like myself who woke up one day and realized that they have neglected their 2HS weapon skill. There's two ways to train up this skill, here. Get a 2HS weapon with a ridiculously low damage, or find a sword like this one with a fast delay. If you solo, using the low damage might be the way to go as you whack on something forever and a day because you are hitting for 6 points each hit (hope you can fear kite and Invigor yourself!). Trying this method in a group, however, is probably not a good idea. The poor damage output could put your groupmates in danger with the longer mob kill time this entails (wandering adds, pops, not to mention more manna required from the healer that might be needed.
If you group more than solo, a weapon like this will keep your groupmates happy as your damage per hit will be better AND you'll be hitting fairly often. I'm currently working up my 2HS from the Basement, and this is the sword I want for that purpose. It's certainly better than the awesome looking, mediocre stat Validus Costodus 2 hander I'm currently using....
Why would a Ranger want to train up 2HS? You never know when you might come across a weapon that just ROCKS...and you can't use it worth beans because you don't know how to use it. 2HS weapons got "fixed" in a patch a little bit back, and are now a LOT more attractive...plus, the Luclin expansion is far from fully explored, so even more cool weapons of every type should start being discovered....do yourself a favor, and keep ALL your weapon skills maxed, and avoid the "only 1HS" trap...trust me, I now know, I fell into it for 30 levels...now at 40, I FINALLY have decent piercing, and now I'm working on 2HS, with the blunts to follow.
I just have to echo what Colphax is saying. A Ranger should train up all his/her skills because there is a situation for every weapon. The situations change with both level and fighting situation. Sometimes they change in the middle of a fight! And of course when that sweet piece lands in your lap and you can't use it... it's just bittersweet. Just talking with another ranger yesterday and both bemoaning that we did not follow advice given (to me anyway) as newbs to train in every skill. The pain and bother to do it later is enormous.

What do you mean rangers arn't tanks? I have a a 17 ranger...And i started my 17 ranger so i can do the quest for ivy etched and if i die i wont worry about it ^_^ hehe but any ways duel weild is really not that great ya know this weapon is so much better then an axe of the iron back , and yes same damage but the attack delay is so much better and besides i like the style hehe lol ^_^ but i would say if your a ranger Silver Swiftblade is alot better then duel weild weapons ^_^ , but im not you do what you want to do ^_^. Besides, Paladins suck just as much as duel weild and besides, do you not read posts at top...THIS SWORD "SILVER SWIFTBLADE"...... RANGER ONLY....DAH so all im saying is don't care what i say jsut reply and say what you have to say, you werent even in this chat so dont reply unless it's about the sword....Besides wh are you reading about silver swiftblade if Rangers suck so much,? They better then Pallys and Warriors.... Niether one of those get track :) BE HAPPY
We have better healing than you and we have Lay on Hands. :P
You deal the damage, we take it, everyone's happy. *grin*
Trust me, you'll like Dual Wield much better at higher levels. Your pinpricks don't generate as much aggro as hitting for 80s-90s with a big, fast, 2hs. *grin* Makes it that much easier for us to hold their attention.
Fraid you have it wrong about aggro generation, Dalantia. Aggro is determined by "touches" more than "damage dealt". Dual Weild generates FAR more Aggro than a 2HS, this I know from personal experience. Why else do you think Rangers get the Jolt line of spells in the 50's? Because anybody using Dual Weild generates more hate, that's why! Rangers NEED this spell line simply because they don't have the AC or HP's to survive end-game mob attention for very long.
How do I know? I peel, therefore I know. I use my spells to make up for my low taunt hardcap, but taunting a mob off a caster with a 2HS is near impossible. Swap out to Dual Weild and it's a breeze.
Pallies and SK's specialize in ripping and maintaining aggro. Their spells make up for the lack of Dual Weild in this aspect. Just imagine if a ranger's taunt was not hardcapped at 150...you'd have a MUCH harder time regaining the Mob's attention, and a lot more rangers would be dying, LOL.
Just a second on aggro retention, from a SK who wields both Shard of Night (21/24 1HS) and Velium Battle Axe (30/37 2HS). I will NEVER use the shard in a group with other main tanks because combined with tapping spells I get too much aggro (which I do not get hitting with the Axe), but ALWAYS use it when I am main tank or aoloing....the high number of relatively hard touches (ok only 65ish, but many doubles and triples), magic bash combo is perfect for getting critters very, very interested.....while the much harder Axe slams let the real tanks keep the attention.
Just an opinion from SK who wields different weapons for different circumstances...
No way, i'm never stopping my ranger i now have a lvl 30 ranger and i may be crazy but this sword is better than stupid duel weild... Duel weild sux ....It's only good when you have double attack. so i dont wanna stop EQ or my ranger i gould probably beat you down man. So dont reply unless you have something to say retter then put-downs to rangers... You may be just mad cause you can't hit the lvl you want for a special spell or something like that so shut up. ^_^ BE HAPPY Tazain 30 human ranger
Tazain, you're just at the level where a Ranger starts to HAVE to learn aggro management or die. Within a few levels you will NEED the taunt that Dual Weild helps you generate when a mob jumps your Cleric/Wizard/Enchanter. Guess who's job it is to peel the mob off the caster? The Ranger's that's who. Look at it this way: Why do we Rangers spend so much more money on faster bows that don't hit for as much damage as a Warrior's pulling bow? Because in the long run, the Ranger hits more often for a greater amount of damage overall! Aggro amangement requires you to think about it, that's all. Got too much mob attention and dont have jolt yet? Root the mob and pull back so the Main Tank is closer to the mob than you are...mob will beat on Main Tank. Don't have root yet? STOP ATTACKING and STEP BACK. With everyone else beating on the mob, it will soon turn to another player. Plus, this may let your healer know to check your health....
This is a crucial moment in your Ranger's career, Tazain. Here you will learn that a Ranger's job is to deal out the pain, a Warrior's is to soak it up. Rangers CAN tank if needed, but NOT as well as a warrior. Dual Weild really helps in damage dealing, and if you've practiced your taunt skill up to now, you are a pelling machine. Unfortunately, you need to learn a slightly different play style than you have used before. You only want the mobs attention when YOU want it. With a good tank, Dual weild is not a problem, as long as you keep the aggro managed.
Don't neglect ANY of your combat/weapon skills....because you never know when you'll get that AWESOME weapon. It's sooooooo sad when you cant use it effectively because you are a little girly man at its weapon skill. I had to learn this the hard way at around your level, Tazin, so heed this advice, and EXPERIMENT. Learn how to use everything in every situation....you'll thank me, and you'll never have trouble finding groups this way.
Ya Know what man? Your right, i was being a sissy before, At fist I didn't take your advice, and i learned the hard way as well, I never though duel weild would be better then a fast weapon like this, so now i'm here to say, THANKS! :) I should have listened to you in the first place! Later, Tazain
Man o man, this is THE primere blade for rng's. i've had a babs since 30 and it has treated me well but at 47 i have obtained this excellent weapon n im never goin' back. the babs treated me well but there is no comparison at all. Stamina adds arent that hard to come by and invigor can be your best friend... but this sword is the way! especially without a proc, the aggro is all on the warrior whilst you hack away at the mob. Two thumbs up, they finally gave the ranger something to be proud of.
n by the way goes for 1.5 k on the nameless, seems easier n easier to find nowadays. RANGER UP n happy hunting fellas

It's a damn heavy weapon, yet I can swing it like it weighs nothing...odd
One word: balance
A well-balanced heavy weapon can be wielded very effectively with minimal effort by someone who is trained to do so.
If you've ever seen some of the real life greatswords (such as those found in Scotland, for example) you would know that a huge weapon can be wielded with amazing deftness. This is because the center of balance (or moment) of the weapon is set just above the hilt. You don't "swing" a greatsword from the base of the handle, you throw the blade around the center of gravity, much like pushing on a gyroscope.
Sorry if I haven't been as clear as I could about this, but there are some good sites on the Web about medieval weapons if you are interested in learning more.
