There are 2 shields with this name!!! I got one today in the fight at the Fort in EW for the 8th ring. It was dropped by an Orc and has AC: 8 SV Cold: +3, looks like a normal round shield.

i bought what was called a velium round shield in the bazaar for 5 gold today. Its called velium round shield but its not this round shield. It has both the graphic and picture thingy of a regular round shield and has stats on AC:8 COLD:5. the char im using this on is a beastlord as well...

Before Luclin was around this was a very nice shield to get from someone selling it in the EC tunnel for 50pp, because mostly couldn't find it for less than 150pp. It was as specially nice for a hybrid melee like an sk or pally with that 15ac on it. Now it's become a newbie twink item or good against shamans on pvp servers. I still think it has a pretty nice looking graphic on it.

I was givin one of these at lvl 8 at think.... Very nice, no wieght, and I'm still using it at lvl 16... only hunted in CB and GFay though... I am at one of those hell-levels... CB is getting to the point where I have to go to the TR jusdt to get EXP.. any suggestions?
lvl 16, umm i think i went to oasis, but if ya got luclin go to paludal caverns

This has got to be one of the coolest-looking shields in the game. That's prolly the only real good reason for it being worth this much. The AC ain't too bad either, but the way it looks is really the main reason.
I have one, AC15, +10 SV cold, but it is not a light source. I am currently using it on a Barbarian and it is black in a tunnel with it equipped. Very disappointing... Now I must go rip out a Fire Beetle's Eye.

Enable dynamic lighting and it will be a lightsource.
This item IS a light source. If the shield you have is not, then you don't have this shield.

Yours must be bugged try un-equipping and re-equipping....I have been using mine for ten lvls and its is a fluctuating light source.....

After 17, BLs shouldnt be using a shield anyway. Until then, this would be a pretty good shield, but I'd suggest an ancient sensate shield; 12 ac 3 wis, almost as much ac and a bit more mana, that is, if you can find one!

I have one of these and it's nice. But I don't understand why people just give them out(This is how I got mine). I mean don't get me wrong it's nice that they're giving them out but why? Jsut sell them for 15-30 pp It's not that it's hard to get anymore.

the graphic is cool but i would only pay 25-30pp for it. cause that's all its worth. heck if you gonna waste 500pp on somethin get a cds and a couple cougar claw earings or a mid level weapon
This is a great shield for single-wielders in their mid-teens to mid-thirties. It has decent AC, magic and most of all weighs NOTHING. Why get a +5 Agility item if half way through the dungeon you get encumbered and lose ten points of agility? The weight really makes it possible to keep your stats fresh on long dungeon treks. The sv vs. cold is nice too, but most players in this level range won't see the benefit too often.
Alot of the lower level casters are shamans and nuke for cold. So it helps the really young a bit. I had 60 or so standing cold resist in those days and would get slamed for 10 or so out of 100+ nuke ;). I do see your point about about later on, as the casters go to pure casters or druids (in the case of Drachnids)

I got one of these sheilds at lvl 11 for 100pp. These things are so common now it's not funny. If you ever see them sell for more than 50pp then you should warn/laugh at the buyer. As for druids using one, once you get the testament of vanear a sheild is pretty worthless (unless it's the charred guardian). Sheilds only add to AC and if your a druid, your not gonna be doing much physical fighting after lvl 24ish. I stopped melee all together now. My attack is maxed at 17 and I got lvl 9 spells that double that.

I just sold a velium round shield for 15pp, only it wasn't the same one here. It was 8ac, 3svcold, and it looked like a wooden round shield.

I didn't see it listed, but this sheild alsoworks as a light source.
I twinked a baby druid with is and noticed that when I equiped it I didn't need to summon a light source.
Just one more reason to make this the cheap twink sheild of choice :)

I am on the Karana server and people in EC are selling these things like hotcakes for 200-450pp a pop. After reading these posts I feel sorry for the suckers paying those prices.

These are *lore*. They drop off *every* Icewell Sentry, Sentinel, Watcher, and Royal Guard I have ever seen in the zone, even the ones that are dual wielding. Most high-levels either constantly destroy them or leave them to rot... you can't farm these like you can the Velium Battle Axes. Show up and ask nicely and you're almost certain to get a shield, they're not much use to the folks at the level they're acquired at.

I just bought one for 10 plat off a player (Paravax). Definitely cool looking, but I can't imagine it being worth as much as they say (I've seen all the way up to 8k on other web sites).
