Zallon mentioned Naggy and Vox books which can be used in place of scales for the epics. What are them exact name of these books? And do they really work as a substitute?
My 45 troll SK and my brother's 51 dwarf cleric where crawling our way through the 4th floor when we came upon this guy - would have been OK too, except it turned into add central on us and he was low mana at the time to boot - didn't know at the time that this guy was carrying such a nice peice - when I saw the book I figured my bro was gonna get something nice.
Sigh, ah well - he wants a ring from the 5th floor, so we're comming back eventually.
there's an odd myth out there that this book can be used for the paladin epic the same way Vox book can, looking for confirmation as I have my Naggy book, and using this would save me a couple of raids ;)
Only use I can really see this for, for higher lvl ppl, is Naggy raids...and that is just what I intend to use it for. 15svfire in range slot is quite nice. :P
I think I have an easy way to switch, I use it all the time. I just made "hot buttons" out of my range slot and my first general slots. I put them at the bottom of my hot button list.
Normally, I leave the book in the range slot at all times. When I want to shoot my bow, I just pick it up from the hot button, click once on the range slot hot button, fire the bow (another hot button, of course), click again to swap back and then return the bow to the gerneral slot.
This may sound a bit complex, but it couldn't be easier. Note that you never actually have to put the book into the general slot, just hold it with cursor as you hit the "range attack" key. Just click-click, fire, click-click.
Aye, this is a good strategy for medium and small races that can't slam. As a warrior I us dual weild, prior to level 55 I had no way to interupt mob's casting so I kept a sheil in an open inv slot. When I say "MobX begins casting.." I swapped the sheid into 2nd melee, hit bash, and swap the 1h weapon back in. Worked great. At first it's awkward but you get the hang of it. At level 55, warrior's kick will stun, no need for sheild anymore.
not complex at all actually if one actually tries it. i do the same on my bard for instruments except i have 3 slots. really good for people who do not have alot of right click item macros or spell macros
This item can be equipped in the range slot. I have had one for about two months, and switch it out with my bow depending on if I am pulling or assisting. Just make sure if you do this that you DO NOT accidentally throw this at the mob when pulling! hehe I usually get rid of my 'range attack' button when I equip this just to be safe, since this is far too sweet of an item to risk losing because of a stupid mistake! Have fun and safe hunting!

True. Only items with a range stat, Range: xx, can be thrown - everything else just sits there. So DO remove your range attack key when holding a Runed Bone Fork, for this - it doesn't matter
I have one of these. Doesnt get thrown when ya hit the range button. It either does nothing or makes it look like ya holding this in second hand and nothing in primary. Does both im not saying it should i saying it DOES.
Narmak Barreka is a random spawn off all the mobs on level four. In other words, any mob can be his PH. Usually, if you're camping Cara's room, you'll pull him at least once.
This is an *awsome* item for pallys/rangers/SKs because they dont need a bow to pull. Its great for warriors on a naggy raid, or when they arent pulling.
By the way, Narmak IS a shadowknight, so he does have an HT. He does also drop a Sheild of Shadows, which is nice SK only sheild. Worth a lot. :)
I recently acquired one of these and I'm not sure which I'd rather have in my range slot - this or my raincaller, which has stat bonuses of its own. Of course the fire resist is good for dragon raids and the like so I may switch between the two on occasion. I'm sure anyone else who has a magic bow of some sort would face the same dilemma.
Another Ranger's PoV: This would be an item mainly used as resist gear although for a Dragon raid a RBF is probably better, unless you have enough magic resist elsewhere. Under rare circumstances would I ever use this in place of a bow (i.e. I'm not pulling).
This item drops off a common named mob on lvl 4 of the Tower of Frozen Shadow. The mobs name is Narmek Berraks (or something along those lines) and is a Suit of Armor. Was blue at 39, fairly easy kill. There are usually shadows around him though. Everytime we killed him he dropped this tome. He never dropped anything else except coin. This may or may not be for a quest. The item can go in hand slot or ranged. Hope this helps.
Interesting...will meleers give up a second weapon or shield to look like they're holding a book, or will they give up their bows & arrows so they can have these bonuses? Looks like a lot of the loot from here is like that. Sweet, but has a little catch...
Once you're in close combat, equip the book in your range slot. I have a 25 warrior and only use arrows for pulling. It would be nice if there were an easier way to swap items than using the mouse.
I think it would be great to just equip in my secondary slot if I'm just hanging around and not hunting, kinda like the broom/shovel for the mage quests =)
I got a Shield of Shadows from this named as a rare, SK only - ac 15 int 6 mana 20 svm 12 I believe. Looks like an MM shield but dark purple when equipped.
