in CC: two off 'a crystal spiderling' and one from 'a crystal crawler'. strange, six months ago I farmed up huge amounts of silk and didn't see any until now.

Posted:Oct 10 2002 at 9:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK, THIS ITEM SUCKS, I GET IT!!! I was waiting to try the proc, i got it grouped at 32, I thought a inf nuke item was kewl, and i thought velium shards did more than 12. Yes, the cast time sucks ***, and yes, this item does suck. But this is the first infinite nuke item i have ever seen, and i dont see why any tanks should complain, this just adds to the list of items that make them makeshift casters. Maybe if something like this was avaliable in the teens, it would be sought after by peeps. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANY INF CHARGE CLICKABLE NUKE ITEMS, PLZ POST IT. THANKS
this item is a good low agrro mana free pulling item for casters. you can also use the claas specific ceramic bands that cast a low level nuke. such as white ceramic band for mages, casts a 5 point nuke and is useable from your inventory slot, infinite charges. blue ceramic band for enchanters so on so forth.
Before you post something sucks, think about how it might have some situation specific use. this gives you a range 200, mana free, arrow free way to pull mobs.
Actually it's range 30, I've tried to pull with it... You need to be in melee range to hit them. Ask a monk about pulling toys, they usually know =p. Happy Dragons are low agro pulling 200 range nukers, and apparently rechargable (1 point nuke). Another are pumice stones, 200 range little dispel, nice for those DS'd ccasters, but limited on charges. Casters have their pottery made casting rings, those are the nice mana free, infintite charged, low agro pullers.
If you do not have something with better stats in your range slot by the time you are big enough to get one of these then you better re-evaluate your gear. As for the effect: It would not suck as a prok. The little bits of extra damage always help. It also wouldn't suck it the casting time was 2-3. I got one of these and always found better things to do in the 7 seconds this would take to cast. I ended up destroying mine within minutes, so I never got to see the graphics people say look so cool. Maybe it does look really cool. I'm not here to dog on its looks, only its uselessness.
It's a toy. A lot of people will have nothing, or effectively nothing in range at the level they go to crystal caverns. Like a small wisdom diety, or a batling eye, or a bow with no stats. It turns all your resists green, and your hand red.
Got one off a crystal spiderLING last night in Crystal Caverns.
Effect is Velium Shards, Zero Range, 7 second cast, 12 hit points maximum damage.
Can't be used for pulling, do more melee damage in 7 seconds H2H as a monk.
It DOES have +1 to all resists, so this is a useful item for some magic runs. Other than that, this is a toy. It looks cute when equipped. It makes spell effects.
Zinj, Fat Monk of Norrath 47th Rung on the Ladder of Life, Vazaelle.
well at lvl 39 to 41 i was soloing the mines for ez xp i soloed the hole mine sep the 2 dwarfs i have a total of about 30 hours all together fighting in the mines and about 15 hours figting spiders in CC and i have never seen the thing drop well just posting i really don't need this item cause i got a bow of the huntsmen (can't wait till the thing procks) well just telling ya with about 45 hours of fighting stuff that can drop these things they must be uber rare if i have not seen them drop 1 time or maybe its just some luck.
effect seems useless as far as i can see. no range - no pulling. 7 secs casting 12-14 damage sucks IMO....
but!
1 sv all in range isn't too bad. 3 str or 1 sv all... hmmm... ah well, At this point I got the room in my inv to shoose between 10 hp/1 sv all/3str and 3 wis...
still looking for a range toy that i can use for pulling, or for a toy in my range slot that actually has some decent stats ( like the item the mages can summon with the save poison on it;)
I got mine off of a spider in Velks Lab the other day, pretty much useless cept for the fact I'm using Sword of Pain/Clay Guard Shield and it looks kind of stupid, so I just equip my Ball o' Velium and there you go, I'm more pimp then ever. Not worth TRYING to get, but if one drops loot it to just be cool =) Like me =)
I have been camping the Crystal Caverns and obtained this item. I almost didn't loot it because I didn't know what it was and I am SO GLAD that I did!
I haven't tried using its SHARDS OF VELLIUM effect yet - the reason I love it is because of the GRAPHIC! This item produces a red, pulsing graphic around your hand that is the same graphic used for some famous Monk thing or other... essence of Do maybe?
At any rate to get the graphic: Everquest will (of course) want to show the items in your Primary and Secondary Weapons slot. I have a Cone of the Mystics in my Primary Slot, a Crystal Webshield in my secondary slot, and the Ball in my Tertiary slot. If I click on either the cone or the Crystal Shield in the Persona screen, of course the Cone and Shield show up in the graphical representation of the character. However if I then pick up (thereby unequipping and requipping) the ball, the Primary and Secondary items vanish and I have the pulsing red glow!
I have made a hotkey slot for my Ball of Velium and absolutely love it. When I zone in I click on the ball quickly, replacing my primary graphics with my tertiary graphics, then run around the zone as normal. It looks particularly good on my Redheaded Female High Elf Chanter, when she is wearing her advisors robe.
I never even knew that it DID anything! I will have to try it now (the SHARDS OF VELLIUM thing I mean.) I just wanted to say if you ever have the chance to loot this item, DO IT! It ROCKS!
(Warning: this WILL take time to load up, be patient! However it DOES have a picture of my High Elf Chanter wearing her new Advisors robe and sporting her Ball of Velium.)
Ok, it's not useful for pulling, it has a very low-melee cast range but..
-Spell interruption is always helpful. -Some classes are very limited on range-slot items and the resists never hurt.
But, more importantly - Why are items nodrop? (according to VI) #1 - Limit who will loot the item (ie only those who can use it loot it) #2 - Quest items (to limit powerleveling twinks with such items, etc.)
Notice that this item is All/All and is not LORE? Additionally, it weighs 0.0 but still requires medium+ containers.
To my knowledge, all items that are NODROP, but Not Lore and have no class/race restrictions are for quests. (albeit not all of said quests are functional)
Citizens of Frost Stone (dwarves in CC) are dubious to everyone. But they have a bank, and vendors. Presently, only rogues, monks, and enchanters can utilize the vendors. My suspicion is that this item will soon be utilized in a faction quest. After all, Velius IS still under construction. ;)
Good idea about the faction quest, this may well be true, but some of your info is wrong. Myself, a dwarf pally, am apprehensive to the dwarven merchants in CC and can sell to them with ease. Any who disbelieve this can log into Bristlebane server and come watch me do it if they really want to.
It is a random drop from any velious spiders. Since there are spiders in CC, Velks, and Thurgadin, it is possible to obtain them from any of these locations. As for the actual item, it is clickable, but only wihtin melee range. Not useful for pulling. It is a 7 second cast time anyways, would be easier to just chuck a shrukien at the mob. As far as usfulness, there realy isnt any, its a great looking effect tho for those of us not used to casting ice spells (im a 57 magician). It feels good, as an elemntalist, to have control of another element other then fire. Although i did use it in a duel one time with my wizard friend. We both went OOM towards the end of the fight, and started piercing each other. Then i reached into my backpack and whipped this guy out and started casting. It was actually uselful for a moment, helped me take down the wizz.
This is completely NOT useful. It has a POINT BLANK range, can't be used until level 40 and has a 7 second cast time. For a whopping 12 damage (I was playing with one of these and using it to nuke a snow bunny to death and it never scored a higher hit that 12) and +1 to all saves.
The only use I have found for this, is to fine tune yourself while binding wound. You know, when you have bound yourself to JUST over 50%, by say 1hp, well, just cast this on yourself, takes you just below 50%, allowing one more bind wound on self while soloing, other than that, not much actual use for process.
