For anyone interested in the Tome, Nejena still drops it. For fun, I wanted to quest the tome and I camped in her den for a week. I probably killed her about 12 times before she dropped it. I was very determined to get it. Anyway, just thought this post may help someone still doing old world quests.

I am Bohunkas1 (lvl 51 Druid) and I approve this message. :-)

Hey this tome did drop off the froglok Tactian in the king's room on the live side of Lower guk just two nights ago. Thought you all should know

Theres a new newby quest for caster gnomes that starts in Akanon. All the information is elsewhere on this website. If you are a gnome and want this book, ignore it. At level 10 you can EASILY do the quest for the other book and its much better.

I have been in this dungeon for over 50 hours in total, camping in rotation Rathyl, Najena and occasionally Drezlna (or (hardcore) Webmistress with others !).

As a level 35 magician you can do any two of these complete spawn sets in solo with FM and DS'd focused earth pet. I would suggest that the xp is ok (they are all dark blue to me xcpt webmistress yellow) and the loot and cash is very good indeed. Gypsy and druid vendors nearby in lava...

The only problem is that I have been camping for the tome and Rathyl's 8 slot pack all this time with no success with either (and about 30 kills of each mob at least).

I think najena spawns about 1/3 of the time in all and rathyl about 1/2 the time instead of their PH's.

Magicians go to this zone ) - get your focus items, pages of mastery and xp, loot and a fun place to solo with your pet or group for faster rotation through dungeon...

If you are in solo, the best place bar none for getting focus items, pages of elemental mastery for epic and sellable / nice drops + ok xp at this level is rathyls room and surrounding area. Neighbouring darkbones and Rathyl's magician protectors drop a lot more focus stuff than anywhere else in dungeon plus you might get a pack / pouch / bracers / ekeros drop to sell to a monk )

If you sit and camp in one spot you are less likely to get any kind of decent drop in my experience, let the spawns pop and fully buff 1st for more chance I think. However, if you cant handle a whole room's worth on FM, then space out the kills when you first go in, they will pop with the same spacing ! Always get necro / magician protectors 1st cos when they pop again you can nuke them before they can buff / summon pets.

I just want the drops to come my way sometime :(

Dargoth Nethelorien (35 Magician on AB).

can a level 30 wizard solo in this dungeon
# Jan 21 2002 at 2:54 PM Rating: Decent
Looks like most of these post are from level 39+, do you think a lvl 30 wizard can solo in here? Is there anything tricks or surprises I need to look out for?

I actually had one of these and lost it due to being booted out while zoning and not being able to get back in because of the active character message. It was in a spirit pouch.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

At level 30 many of the lower level MOBs won't aggro on you until you sit down. If you invis yourself, there are still plenty of undead around that can bug you while you meditate. At level 30 you might mess with the mobs called "a skeleton" which drop pretty good loot, but hit hard for their level. These are usually solo-able at 29 and up, since they are spaced well away from higher MOBs in most cases and the lower ones shouldn't aggro on you unless your health gets real low. I wouldn't go soloing Najena at 30 though, as her company keeps her pretty well guarded.

I think she must spawn faster than she used to, because after killing her once (dropped the robe) two magicians spawned five minutes later, and Najena popped about 10 minutes after we killed them. I actually hadto wait much longer for Rathyl to spawn, waited for 20 minutes before a couple of magicians spawned, he spawned about 15 minutes after that. Luckily, she dropped the book the second time. She also dropped dark elf parts, which I believe is a random drop off any dark elf NPC.

Najena seems to be a rather empty dungeon now, never seen more than 5 people in their at once, most camping itms for the magician epic. Some page is a rare random drop off the magicians. Only a handful of people are ever after Najena herself.

Hey.

I spent a loooong time camping this girl, to get a book for a friend about four weeks ago. (Beginning of October - Torvonnilous server.) Certainly at this time, her recycle time was very consistently about twenty minutes.

Certainly what you said about the dungeon being empty is very true. I killed her about ten times, before I got the book and during this time she dropped the robe about five times. (KIlled a PH about the same number of times. Would guess it's a close to 50/50 ratio for her and her PH.)

Every time I yelled if anyone wanted to come and get a robe and only twice did anyone come for it. (If someone wanted it and was too small, I'd have even run it out to them, but there's just no-one about.) Damn shame to see even a mildly nice piece of gear like this just rot away.

The dark elf parts certainly drop off the other DE's in Najena and can be used to make Blackened Teir'Dal, which isn't too bad, as far as stat boosting foods go. I have a coupla stacks in the bank, which I plan on handing out to DE's, whenever they make comments about my Iksar looking hungry. Hah!

I've noticed that the population of the Old World dungeons have gone down dramatically since Kunark and Velious came out. It used to be that a level 1 could safely wander all the way across Upper and Lower Guk since so many people were camping the place, anything would be immediately attacked upon spawning.

Najena's become a real ghost town. Seems anybody in there is either camping magicians to get the rare page for the mage epic, or Ekeros for the FP monks' red sash. Rathyl drops a nice weight reducing pack, but very rarely, and people usually try to acquire one elsewhere. Anyway, nobody fights in here just for experience, because the spawn rate is so slow. Anybody in here is after a specific piece of loot, then they get out.

As for the flowing black robe, this used to be a popular item that sold well. But with all the much better, and more common, caster robes coming in from Velious, the FBR doesn't sell well anymore, at least not for what would be a significant amount to the level of person that can kill Najena. The person who helped me take out Najena just gave the FBR away to a newbie caster.

Better than Spirit Tome
# Jul 07 2001 at 8:20 PM Rating: Decent
What is weird is that many people sell this and buy a Spirit Tome...

This one is better. Casters want INT so they can get more mana, or that is the main reason at least, and the 30 mana = 6int on level 25... And on level 60 you get 10mana per int, so then this book is equal to 7int.

I prefer this over Spirit Tome. Oh yes I do.

RE: Better than Spirit Tome
# Aug 01 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default
Another point to make here is that once you hit 200 intl, you need mana objects. So once you hit 200 intl, you still gain the benefit of the 30 mana (where as you would lose any mana gained from additional INTL).

Most probably the selling point is the 'Graphic'.

It would be better to keep this Tome until you can get Book of Orbus (with help from money you would have spent on spirit tome).

This item sucks for a Wizard.

Well... at least for a wizard who has his Staff of the Wheel.

It would've been nice if it could go in the off hand.

RE: look
# Jul 16 2001 at 1:01 AM Rating: Decent
Well, if you have your Staff of the Wheel, you can carry a Stein of Moggok in your off hand, thats +10 int and some other stats, id prefer that personally.

i guess that i may be one of the lucky ones. i was leaving solb today and decided to check out Najena since i had never been there. i was the only person in the zone and was able to wipe everything out and collect the keys. I was very suprise that Najena spawned after the first placeholder and especially suprised to see that she had dropped the tome.

Woot!

Me and a couple of guildmates camped Najena for about 4 hours, and had her pop 3 times. First she had the FBR and the ring, does anyone have a PC on the ring or is it even worth anything, the other 2 times she just had the FBR. Her spawn is totally random, she spawned one the first hour, then back to back the second then the other 2 hours was nothing.
Najena drops
# Apr 15 2001 at 8:49 PM Rating: Decent
I have killed Najena many times, and can recall once when she dropped the Tome and the Ring, at that time I was actually after the Robe, so I was not pleased, but I am after the tome now. She does drop it, just fairly rare, only seen it once, need to get it again, so I may be passing through here again soon. If anyone has one for sale on Saryrn send me an in game tell.

The book itself
# Apr 09 2001 at 9:20 AM Rating: Default
It mentions in the discription that you can hold this book in either hand. This is not the case. I have a walrus tooth dagger and I can olny hold one or the other. That really sucks because I do like to melee a bit at my lower levels.
RE: The book itself
# May 13 2001 at 5:57 PM Rating: Default
You CAN hold this book in either hand... yes it may prevent you from holding a melee weapon of course, but you can hold it in either hand.

ps: the item info now actually does say, Primary slot and in no way mentions Secondary.
RE: The book itself
# Jun 15 2001 at 5:31 PM Rating: Default
As of June 13, 2001, the book is PRIMARY ONLY. No, it cannot go in secondary slot. I got one the other day and I clicked on the secondary slot like mad (not yet having checked whether it could go there, just assuming it could) and it would...not...go. Thus, it does not go in Secondary, and only in Primary. When I got Sacrificial Dagger, I traded up. I still need something decent for secondary.

drop?
# Feb 22 2001 at 4:20 AM Rating: Default
what is the drop rate on this? my friend and I camped Najena for a good 15 hours to get this, but she never dropped anything other than the flowing black robe and the key to her room. the spawn is apparently random, so sometimes we had to wait an hour for each pop, sometimes she popped every 15 minutes, but she never dropped this book or the claws. any ideas?
RE: drop?
# Mar 25 2001 at 8:14 PM Rating: Good
This drops with more frequency off a mob (can't recall which, sorry) in the King Room in Lower Guk. I never saw this in Najena. Ever. That's not to say anyone's lying, but I know two people, including myself, that got one from King.
All the Info you need!
# Mar 14 2001 at 12:06 PM Rating: Decent
The black tome is a very rare spawn indeed. Luckily, I just received one along with everything else Najena drops, quite the loot! Najena herself is a random spawn herself, usually with an elemental popping in her place. Her spawn is on a 20 minute timer and two magicians spawn to her left and right. So if you are lucky enough to have Najena spawn, hope she does have the black tome. My group camped her for 4 hours in which we fought her three times, one of which she dropped all the rare loot. I have also heard stories though of her spawning 3 times in a row, so I assume it is totally random. That pretty much covers Najena herself.
