Okay okay, I know that this is -supposed- to be a post about the Robe of the Elements, but listen to this. I saw a shaman who was -so- desperate for money he was offering his level 25 shaman buffs to the people in PoK. Normal right? Well...I was at the bank, and suddenly I hear this OOC spam coming from the guy "Hey! I buffed you <so-and-so> you owe me money!" Just over and over and over, turns out the guy was buffing passerbys who didn't even ask for the buffs then demanding money from them! Oh it was a great day XD
[Edit: Accidentally put "Probe of the Oracles" LOL]

"a twink's skills suffer because of the higher AC they have than they should have. The mobs won't hit you. If the mobs don't hit you, your defense wont go up. "
You should do a bit more research. Even if the mob MISSES you, your defense still takes a check and goes up. Higher AC just means better protection, but defense will STILL go up as normal.
Now, if they have a weapon that drops everything in sight in 1 hit, that makes your defense suffer, because you are not being attacked nearly as much.
errr.. i'm wrong there. Dexterity affects how you land hits, weapon procs, and backstabs. Agility is the determining factor with mobs hitting or missing you.
Right but I have a few points I'm wondering about. Agil isn't the only thing that decides wether you are hit or not. Attackers dex is used to hit, your agil to avoid, so far we are agreeing. But may I ask how you can say AC has nothing to do with it? I was under the impression that the Combined AC from armor and Agility, that is total AC, decides wether you are hit or not, while the raw AC on your items without level and agil bonuses added is the "soak" you get on damage. And that is why a decently high level monk and warrior work in different ways. The monk take less hits due to high AC from Agility bonuses while the Warrior takes less damage per hit due to wearing 50 lbs of steel plates. Well... Im basically a caster player full time myself so I am not sure, but this is what I have heard when asking high level monks, warriors etc.
Oh and on a side note. Defense increases even if your enemy miss you and I am fairly sure I have gotten Offense increses when missing my own blows too.
Agility doesn't really do much to improve defense, but it helps a bit. AC doesn't make the monsters miss you, it reduces the damage they do, but a hit for 0 or less counts as a miss. So if you improve your ac a few points, the monster will miss you instead of hitting for a few points.
Agility = damage avoidance/speed of attack ie.. dodge mobs swings/you swing faster. AC is tied into Agi. As a 63 warrior, for every 3 agi I wear, I gain 1 ac point.
AC > Armor Class = How much damage you take when hit. Higher yours is the less damage you will take. This has nothing to do with avoidance.
Monks have a mixture of high ac and high agi. This is to avoid being hit and to minimize damage when hit. However, with the invent of AA, it made monks too powerful defensively and they were revamped. Now monks get hit a lot harder when/if they get hit.
Just want to toss this in, there are AA abilities Combat Agility and Combat Stability, both of these factors (ie Damage Avoidance and Damage Mitigation) are taken into account when determining whether or not you are hit and for how much.
Also, i'm not sure about high agility making you swing faster...everything that SOE has said in the past is Agi is to defense as Dex is to Offense /shrug

They should create some sort of filter that detects phrase combinations such as "do you have any spare ..." or "help out a fellow ...", then once these have been detected it would then give the player who said it PvP status like during a duel. This would then cause you to face them (as if they don't come bobbing up and down infront of you like annoying twats anyway), emote the rude gesture, then cast a nuke that does 10000 points of damage. OK, they won't do that, but they should do hehe.

... because they almost never want any loot! They are good for the group and they are experienced! If you don`t like twinks because you are jealous, I would guess you have a big problem in RL! Just think of all the rich people!

Twinks are fine----i dont think i know any high lvl characters who have NOT in someway twinked their character with money or such. im not insulting non-twinkees just i have never SEEN a non-twinked character that admitted to having a high lvl main /shrug i myself twink my newb characters hehe =)
and i also really really hate beggahs...when i started my FIRST character i asked ONCE(ONCE GOSH DARNIT) for some food and water because i was out of newb food and didnt have a enough silver Constant beggah's or outrageous beggars are REALLY annyoing..especially the one's that send tells oh well...just my 2cp =) gday to you all
go have a look see at my Iksar Necro on Terris-Thule. I have a 47 wizard main and 22 chanter alt, and this toon... he's not twinked.. only with a small amount of money to buy spells with. So, I guess if you want to call giving your toon some spell cash twinking, then no, I have never created a character and leveled it to 10+ without giving it some money/equipment.

The GM's are gonna see what they can do to him tommorrow! ). His name was Dekking on the TUNARE sever, i hate this guy so much i decided to post this once i saw the posts. Just dont ask for money and dont take every last scrap of it in groups, my stolen 2cp.
I fully agree with you Dracoz. I was in freeport the other day and a newb asked me if I could "help out a fellow mage" grrrrr. I said I was broke at the time because I was doing smithing (although I wouldn't have given any money anyways, I *was* broke because of smithing). He actually then said to me "I didn't mean money, you have some nice items." I just laughed at this. I mean come on people..go kill things, sell their drops, get money, and move the F**K on, like everyone else in the game does. I can't wait til 44 when I get Mod Rods..I can then give newb beggars those and tell em to right click for some copper >:)
That ranks up with the guy I WAS going to give a dagger of Marnek but noticed his beggar spam and opted not to. He then proceeded to tell me I was being mean and oppressing him because I was not giving him something. What is this, welfare?? No one has a RIGHT to loot unless they throw down and kill the mob.
On the subject of twinking and helping beggars, I'll do mild twinking of self or friends to aid in getting them where I need them (power leveling enchanters for the spells or friends to get to my level). As for beggars, I generally tend to help Dark Elf Rogues (my main char is one), cause you never ever see them. What do I help them with? Patchwork, low level piercing weapons, and most of all, ADVICE.
Remember - you can gain and lose equipment, levels, and even guilds and characters, but information is the true power behind this game.
speaking of annoying beggers and twinks, don't ya just hate it when people of a higher level and that are richer then you are in the first place ask for stuff? then when you dont give it to them cuss you out enough to be reported?

Oh how horrible people with "IRL" friends...jesus people do you read what you type and consider that some people live outside of EQ?
Jesus, do you read what other people type before spouting off? It wasn't a complaint about people who have RL friends. It was about people who don't have a clue about the game because they're so new but still have better gear. See also "Ebayer."
i dont twink out people who are asking for stuff but i enjoy helping newbies with advice and ne equip i have lyeing around that im to lazy to sell, like bronze or BA or cloth or raw hide stuff like that will make the low lvl bows etc etc but if they ask the get nada, i had one guy who talked to me about a begger that was spamming i kinda liked him so i twinked him with some bronze. IMHO its lowbies that dont ask u should twink and ones that do ask that should be flamed and given nothing.
Though this thread has gone way off topic of the robe I thought I would put my 2cp in. I actually just got this robe for my Erudite Magician. My main is a 51 Ranger. Yes I twink out all my alt characters when they are new. I have started not to before, but in the end I just do it anyway. On the subject of beggars, I have the same policy as Iothander. If you beg me you probably won't get anything, but if I see a newb character that I like (partial to Rangers of course), I don't mind giving them stuff I have, be it misc items or plat for spells. I will buff any newb character I run into that asks and many who don't. When I'm playing one of my lowbie alts, I never ask for anything. My monk alt did his teens in NK and was pretty much PL'd the whole time by passing druids who would cast regen, SLN, and SoW.
As for the subject of this robe. I got it for the effect. Normally I would go with Crystal Covered Shroud for the AC/Int and the ease of getting it, but I saw this for sale in the Bazaar cheap and seemed like a good trade since magicians summon a lot. :)
My 42 cleric was out in her home town of Nektulos a few nigth ago and I told the newbs that I would buff them. I had just dinged and didn't feel like medding so I would work my casting skills up like that. This guy comes up and says "thx" then runs off. Just pipped a pet pieve of mine when some one gets something from you and doesn't have the inclination to spell out "thanks" or "thank you". A couple minutes later he spouts in /ooc "Would U PL me?".....I told him, "no, I all ready did" because I didn't really feel like following around a newbie who asked to be PLed. also I had just made him a 2nd level god. His response after a couple other attempts at trying to PL him was "fine be that way". My response was "What way is that? Don't like it click off my buffs." sigh the no help/rez list grows longer everyday.

I personally have no problem with twinks because someone had to be high enough to earn the items for him or herself. Despite being able to camp many class-quest items myself, I usually make whichever character I will be dropping the item on pay for the neccessary gems.

Posted:Aug 04 2001 at 12:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well there is one thing to say about twinks. Sometimes, specifically with melee classes, a twink's skills suffer because of the higher AC they have than they should have. The mobs won't hit you. If the mobs don't hit you, your defense wont go up. When you reach the lvl that your armour is, you suck as a char. I've seen some people refuse to grp with twinks. hehe but I am myself a demi-twink, and I see nothin wrong with it. Just you warrior/paladin/shadowknight twinks, pls work on your defense skill please?
The only way that would happen is if the twink is not smart enough to fight higher level mobs. My main is only a level 26 cleric, so i really can't do much twinking, but when I started my warrior, I smithed him a full set of banded. Everything else he has was gotten either as loot or bought with earned plat. However, the banded armor, and some buffs from friendly high levels, allowed nme to basically skip the newby area in w freeport (I levelled to 3 there), and head sraight to e common. I went straight for yellows, and some reds that I knew were not too high. Levelled him up to 10 in 1/2 day (12 hrs) of playing.
A real twink, with crafted or better, and a good weapon and shield, could join an orc group by level 5, and level like mad. Since the higher level of the mobs ensures they get hit, their offense and defense still go up. Incidentally, I was in orc groups by six, and did not die, but I was teamed with a "real twink". He was also lvl 6, and had a lammy, hero bracer, ssb, crafted, etc. With a couple wis casters, we owned orc 2 for several hours, with no deaths.
Basically, my point is, twinks will still see their skills rise, as long as they fight higher level mobs, rather than just soloing blues and not getting hit.
A trip this long has a lot of variables, but if you don't have SoW or a GG, and know the way reasonably well, you're probably looking at about 2 hours real time in travel, give or take about 20 minutes depending on your Boat Luck and Kithicor Timing. That's Halas - Freeport - Lesser Fay - Freeport - Lavastorm. That's not including camp times for the items themselves.
I'd highly recommend at least one GG (NK to BB), and two (BB to LS) would be even better. You might pay 20p or so for both gates, but the total travel time would drop to 30 minutes or less.
If you know a non-twinked Druid or Wizard in the low-mid 30s, invite them along for a Preacher camp in Permafrost. Runed Circlets make very willing group gaters, and they're fairly common drops lately (I've been averaging about one an hour).
Characters that have much higher level characters that give them equipment that is very good for the twinkee's level. For instance a level 4 Necro having an SMR (SMR is a very rare robe off a level 45ish mob in Lower Guk. Its 9int with a bunch of other stats) while most must be in their 40's to plain earn it.

If Verant had ment there not to be tradeing items between characters everything would be no drop. As it were, what do you suggest people do with the unwanted or unused item? Destroy them are about your only way to end twinking... If you were to sell them to a vendor.... Uh oh... A character could buy it from the vendor that is too young to earn it! What about the commerce on the servers? Alot of thing are being sold to people too young to earn them... Uh oh... (sarcasm) I twink because there's nothing better to do with the items, I earned them, I do not want to destroy or see them lost in a server down on a vendor.

Posted:Apr 20 2001 at 6:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there is one thing that you don't understand and that is that you have earned that item or items and have every right to put it on a newbie character. i am a 54 and sometimes when i'm bored its nice to be able to get onto a newbie char and have nice items and so on. this is also good for the real newbie's that need money, twinks don't often loot unless they are looking for a certain item, at least thats what i do.

Posted:Apr 19 2001 at 10:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not having a go at you, or anything like that, but is a level 8 mage with an Oracle robe a twink?
That's not the only way that can happen. Often, high level characters get bored and start new characters. They then have their friends/guildmates hold their cash, or in some cases, items also, and give it to the new character.
Everyone that ever play this game starts with an non twink lvl 1 newbie & no one start with a twink unless some other high lvl give them the stuff from the begining (Like a friend that play the game for a long time). Nothing is gotted out of thin air so all is earn & fair.
Twinks are almost always there secondary character & yes the item was EARNED by there first character.
