yeah...it only works on self buff....Focus is really only good for a chanter...it's ok for the classes on there but they really don't cast enough self buffs to matter
I dont know... But I'm using item with same effect for about 1 year (veil from VT) and it works with EVERY beneficial spells... Not only buffs, but heals too, and not only on self
Ok thats not making me happy, I ditched my wizard a while ago to be a rogue so I can do more damage, now this has to happen. That 40% on mana conservation with the 30% on improved damage makes wizards much much better on dealing damage. I mean with the other focus items they were near the same but rogues were slightly better, I bet with these they'll blow rogues away.
(Plus, this is from the Plane of Time ... you kinda need to pick one character and then REALLY focus on staying in front of your computer for a long time to get in there ;-p )
I wouldn't worry about changing your whole existence because of one or two new items or spells that they put in. If they add one, they'll probably add another to balance things out. In the end, it's all about what is the most FUN for you and your friends.
So says Elder Paghk Heyokah'Zek of Morell-Thule. To each their own.
This is critical and many people only read the first line "40% Mana preservation" instead of reading them all: Limit: Min Duration(6.00 sec)
You will see only several buffs have that long cast time, like Fo7, HoV and Bot9 etc. I'd say probably only Dru Clr Shm can benefit from it the most from this focus, maybe Enc too, They dont give 40% MP for nothing... and btw this focus avaliable in VT
duration 6.0 I'd guess is to prevent the "invulnerability" cleric line of self buff spells from taking advantage of this though they are quite cheap to cast in the first place.
Looking at the classes that can use this effect... It's pretty much worthless to 'em. All their self buffs have long durations and don't get dumped unless they die or it's dispelled (rarely happens that they'll then take the time to recast it in the middle of a fight...) and if it is dumped, this is a "post amount" mana save like all the others -- e.g. you need to have the full mana available to cast the spell - THEN you can cast it and save 40%.
Such an effect I can see being of great use to Enchanters is about it. Arcane Rune is why. Enchanters could gain some pretty significant benefits when "CANNOT BE MEZ'D" or AoE stuff starts pounding on them -- bye bye self rune and pounding on that button to stay standing but... Shaman, Clerics, etc.. it's a "cutsie" effect dropping this items "value" to just over it's stat benefits which are sub-par for many, MANY items that can be gotten for neck slot by someone who can get this item.
Limit: Min Duration(6.00 sec) refers to the length of time the buff lasts, not the cast time of the spell. Take a look at one of the spell haste foci and they generally say "Limit:Min Casting Time(3.00 sec)"
40% isn't alotr when it only works on self only buffs. I think I have only my shield spell that would fall into that catagory and the ornate enchanter robe casts that for free.
Self Allowed is VI's way of saying Self Only buffs. This effect will not work on any spell other than beneficial spells that are automatically self targeting (which completely eliminates 90% of spells cast by a wizard).
Trust me, I've seen several clerics get excited about items with this effect (boots from Galremos in Tower of Sol Ro come to mind) only to be disappointed when it was in fact SELF ONLY buffs. It works on Armor of Zealot though :)
Chromospheric 1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 25% 2: Limit: Spell(Sun Vortex allowed)
Note the Sun Vortex allowed. This doesn't mean all spells including Sun Vortex work, otherwise they would have just omitted the limit remark. This means Sun Vortex ONLY is affected.
Another example is Anger of E'ci. Since E'ci is the god of ice, essentially, the focus including its name makes sense:
The line that "allows" something, basically means that only that type of spell will work. Casting a nuke that checks resist against Magic will not work with E'ci focus. Only spells that check resist against cold, such as the cold based druid nuke, will be affected.
So the same goes for sanguine Preservation. Since the only "allowed" spells are Self, the spells that the focus affects, are ones that are tagged as Self.
Quote:
1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 40% 2: Limit: Max Level(65) 3: Limit: Spell(Complete Healing excluded) 4: Limit: Spell Type(Beneficial only) 5: Limit: Target(Self allowed) 6: Limit: Min Duration(6.00 sec) 7: Limit: Effect(Percentage Heal excluded)
Following the same guidelines means ONLY self-only spells, that are beneficial, and have a duration will be affected. I'm willing to bet the Shaman line of Rage spells, or the ranger line of ATK buffs, like Firefist would be affected. But a regular buff like the shaman Focus would not.
I am a cleric who owns this item. It does NOT activate when you cast buffs like Virtue OR Hand of Virtue on yourself. It only activated for me with Armor of the Zealot.
Plus Yaulp! Don't forget the huge mana savings there! :) Still, for me its a cheap-RPP necklace upgrade with reasonable AC. I am far down on the RPP queue for real necks, so I don't mind grabbing this for now.
