I spent a few hours in the "Hall with Many Bends" and never got one. I scrolled all the way down and saw someone post that you might get one closer to the Zone Out - second rat I killed had the bottle. :-(

I just picked this up minutes ago from a running rat. I had killed one and another ran past, I ranged attacked, killed and looted.

i got note in bottle from festering rat that was walking not running.you may have to kill rats that are running to spawn walking rat.i hope this post helps.

Can confirm the walking rat theory. Killed the festering rats around the cell block and while most run this one with the bottle walked. Took me around 30ish kills.
I have to deny it. Killed a walking "a festering rat" and it dropped nothing.
Edit - After killing lots of sow'd rats and 8 non-sow'd (ie walking) it dropped off one.

Walked into POJ, ran to the zone out area where the rats run around in that circle, and tiny bottle and note dropped after first kill. I don't know if talking to the gnome first made any difference, or if it was just random, or if they've changed the drop rate. I was a little nervous cause of some of these posts saying they killed 50+. Perhaps they changed the drop rate cause hardly anyone seems to do this quest anyway.

As a lvl 60 warrior, this drop was easy in difficulty, but a moderate pain in the ***** I killed 81 of the festering rats to get my drop, no idea how many hours spent. Nowhere near a day, but combined between 3 sessions of eq, im estimating somewhere around 4 hours. Ive heard of this quest being "completed" in 4 hours, but im thinking its just some loud mouth spouting off.
Anyways, at lvl 60, there were some light blue conning rats, hitting for maybe 80 tops, which spawned in what i will call the "hallway with lots of corners" and there were some green con rats that were easy as pie, which spawned in the "square hallway near the door/zone out"
I got my drop off these green con rats, and have heard these are the only ones that drop the tiny bottle. Of the 3 times ive done this quest, it has always dropped off the green con rats in the "square" hallway.
Mob dropped this item on August 4th, 2008, Maelin Starpyre server.

I hate to say but when I was lvl 82 (Wood Elf Ranger) .... I ran a buddy of mine through the entire quest line START TO FINISH in just about 3hrs 43mins. So the BS about not being able to do it in under 4hrs is TRUE!!! ... This piece of the quest is RANDOM .... some people get it quick ... some don't. It just happens that I get lucky a lot while running friends through this quest. Now to prevent you from thinking I am cheating I ran another buddy through and it took us 3hrs just for the first piece. So .... Grow Up and Quit Whining ... and learn to Cope.

I have this item - but I got it doing the Enchanter Epic. Is this an easier way to get the item than doing the epic quest? Any enchanters out there tried using it with your Epic? Does it work?

Camp the exit and take whatever you can get for xp and do the rats that go by down the hall...they drop frequently there...saw 3 in 45 mins...they are there just be patient and either do AA exp or grp reg..they will come

I guess I got lucky, cuz I was only in PoJ for about and hour, and got one off one of our group's kills after only 30 minutes. No one wanted, so I grabbed and looked up this kick-*** quest. Woot!

I spent 2-3hrs hunting these things, and one finally dropped near the ZO, the thing is you can kill hundreds near the ZO and it still wont drop, the only thing I can tell you is put on a cd and get ready for a wait, cause that is what it takes is a whole lotta patience

I of course picked up the first one that dropped, which happened to be right when I arrived. I wasn't even trying to find it either, just grouping for XP. I would suggest this strategy to anyone who wants this - group.

Ive been in PoJ for two hours cleaning out ALL the rats.... not one bottle... how sad. =(
Well i killed about 8 rats while they added on other mobs me and a mate where killing, and two of these droped but we both allready had one.. So they aint seem to rare. Either that or we where jsut lucky.. well not realy because they both rotted;)

I've put maybe 16 hours into killing those rats. I needed two drops off them. First one dropped off about the third rat I killed, so I do know they drop. Since then, I've killed tons of rats with no drop. Just glad I still get reasonable AA xp off them or it would really be a waste.
**Edit**
Finally got it. Think this only drops off the rats in the area near the zone out. Never saw anything drop on the others beyond this area. It's where I finally got mine.

Unless it drops at a differant rate among servers wich i doubt it is a very common drop i rarely hunt poj anymore but in the pre lvl 50 days the rats where primary xp for me and id say about every 10 rats it would drop it dropped so often that in a night of fighting everyone in a grp could have 1

I wasted alot of time hunting festering rats in the area after ZO. Guildies also confirmed that you need to hunt the ones near ZO, which is were I got mine at last. There are 2 spawns there afaik, and they are significantly weaker than the ones further from ZO. The weak ones have about 4K hp I believe.

it is rare but can be gotten by clearing the rats a few times
seen people offer 1k in pp just to loot it and it is a decent neck item

Have seen this drop quite frequently off the rats. Of course, it seems more frequent because I already have one.
I hunt the ZOs everyday and see at least one to two a day.
Have been in PoJ three or 4 times doing ZO - only dropped once that I saw - and I got it.

While I'm medding up for the next pair of rats....I've killed about 50+ and have yet to see the tiny bottle and note. I know it drops I've seen it! /grumble
