I use a "Stonewood Compound Bow" With Blessed Champion Arrows (Endless Quiver & Archery Mastery 3, Combat Fury 3) and get Cirts with Trueshot Disc for as Much as 2349.
Gee you really missed the point!! You're supposed to say "this suxx0rz, there's way better bows out there, gimp". Don't you realize you're supposed to hate the game and all of the items and just generally not enjoy yourself? Get a grip, this bow sucks!! It should be for monks!!
Get a gamepad.. I reccomend one with a throttle control. Make sure it cam be configured to do keyboard macros and toggles, like the Nostromo pad. You can easily configure a macro to auto-fire your bow when you apply the throttle on the gamepad.
Keep in mind that this TECHNICALLY violates the "letter of the law" in the EULA. There have been no known problems with rangers using autofire, and even word from GM's that it isn't a problem as long as you remain at the computer while you are using it... Just don't Auto a nexus scion and go to sleep to raise your skill.
I have yet to even hear of a person being warned for using auto archery in normal gameplay. Just understand that, in theory, this could cause you to get a warning (I would assume it would be no more than a warning).
But, it's been going on a while, Sony knows about it, GMs know about it, and MOST of the ranger community knows about it... with zero recorded CS/GM conflicts.
with the pause worked out to the delay of your bow etc, and the /doability number changed to whatever the ranged attack slot is.. ie: 2 or 12 or whatever.
hope this helps... if anyone can clarify this, please let us know. (the fact that you cant auto-attack with a bow is a shame... maybe they could look at making bows PRIMARY as well, but 2 handed, so you can either pop it in ranged slot or in primary... kinda like some items can be either ear or finger.. or back or secondary).. just a thought....
Lucky for all of us this is a moot point now that they've added autofire. I can't tell you how frustrating it used to be to sit there and tap the button over and over...
Just got one the other night on Inny for 1kpp in the Bazaar. I think the seller jsut hit 61 and was sitting on an Elemental bow so wanted some quick pp.
Even though i am a pally an di dont get much out of the bow (archery capped at 75 :( ) the stats are nice and i am hittingfor about 50 a shot and it procs a lot too...generally i just pic the mobe off till it gets to the camp and stop if it procs..no sense wasting arrows on 20-50point hits.
After returning to EQ after a 16 Month Vacation from EQ and playing DAOC I stopped back to check EQ out for a day found alot of old friends seen all the new expansions couple hours later I have all the expansionsand a gift from a old friend this Awesome bow. 55th Lvl ranger and my charactors were all still here when I returned.
I'm a Barbarian Warrior on Quellious who spent most of his 47 levels mastering throwing weapons (just to be different). I got this bow (for just 1499) really to replace my old ranged slot totem (since the nightmare stats are so nice), but...after trying it, now I have dumped a bunch of training points into Archery and am working on pumping up the skill. What better way to start a fight than a quick exchange of AC in your favour?
Not being experienced with bows, I can't relate it's speed to other bows, but she feels fast to me. Overall, a fine addtion to my equipment.
Got one of these the other day for 3k, and even tho Im a Tunare Ranger, IMHO this is a better bow for me than the BFT. I am often paired with my lady Clerec or soloing and with proc it ads 17ac (5 on bow + 12proc), decreaces mobs ac and ads a ton of agro to keep the mob off my partner.
When grouped I would suggest the BFT to reduce agro... I dont have one yet( I use a shissar bow when grouped.
Fletching trivial at 250. if you make before 250, theres a better chance of failing, but the friend who made mine was at 237 and didnt have trouble. Dont know what skill level to start making it though. At LEAST 225 to be safe id say, but the higher the better. Then again, ive never tried to make one my fletching is only at 56. :/
Got this bow for 4k on tunare for my warrior i dont pull much as a war but this is one of the best bows in the game. I keep it in slot for the stats and pulling when i have to and im sure you'll agree that as a tank it will be hard to get a ranged item to beat it for 4k!
I am a lvl 47 WAR and keep geeing the message that "my will is not sufficient to command this weapon" ... when I was getting this my DEX was maxxed ...
My Warrior is now 54 and after having shot this about 300+ times I have had it proc maybe 10 times total... Are all of the bows this hard to proc??? Seems to me that you can get a bow with some nice stats and no proc (if there are any) for less money and save the annoyance of having a weapon that rarely procs.
Yes you can fail. My Wood Elf Ranger toon has a fletching skill of 245 with Grandmaster Fletching Knife in hand and I have made this 2 out of 3 times for my War and Rog. The hardest/longest part was finding a tinker gnome to obtain the cams from. My Ranger uses the Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt he made.
Even if your skill is at 250, SoE (Verant) still left a 5% chance of failure on combines. So even on the most trivial of combines, you still have a 5% chance of failing. But 2 for 2 on the combines is a great ratio (enjoy it while it lasts).
You could try to use a Geerlok Fletching Tool to get a 5% success modifier on your fletching combines. I used my geerlok and combined arrows with a trivial of 202 and never got a failed combine while using 2 stacks of components. That is 40 combine attempts without a fail! My current skill level is 192, so it is pretty close to trivial for me, but the geerlok was well worth its purchase price of 350pp in the bazaar. The geerlok provides a 5% success modifier only, not any modifier to skill level. You still will fletch at your current skill level, but will get 5% more successes.

PST if you are on Xev server and I will attempt a combine for you. Good luck.

Posted:Feb 24 2003 at 6:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I got one of these for free, and might i add they are pretty nice. A guy in da guild makes these with no prob so he made me 3 for free.
Had friend ask me to do combine on this for him. My fletching skill is only 202, so I was very apprehensive to do it. I bought components in bazaar for total cost of 2.8K even though he already had them. I wanted to try it myself before making his parts go Poof!! Much to my surprise, hit combine and am now proud owner of Nightmarewood Compound Bow and even got a skill-up in the process!!

I recently bought a compound steel bow to upgrade my trueshot. The big reason was the +10DEX & the bow was going for 500pp compared to others on TP 1-3kpp. Well its 28 dmg dly 40 & was wondering if anyone has compared this with the nightmare. The nightmare goes for quite a bit more 4-7kpp i've seen & the dmg 30 dly36 is an improvement, i'd be losing 5 in DEX but gaining in other stats. Has anyone that has tested both noticed a moderate+ difference in the dmg out of the nightmare over the compound stell. I'd totally be sold I think if that int stat (for SK's I guess) was wis or has a wis stat of 10 on it.
Ooops my mistake, the nightmare does have a +10 in DEX, i was sure when looking in the bazaar I saw only +5... ack. Well still would like a comparison.
Ok ive tried out both bows extensively. I must say there is no difference AT all in DMG obviously so lets look at the stats. The single most important thing for landing dmg when using a bow is dex which this bow has more than the BFT and a decent proc nothing to get excited about trust me, the best advice I can give is if you are tunare alligned stay with the BFT end users will tell you the resists more than make up for the plus 5 dex and proc this weapon gives you. It looks better, but in the end doesnt match up with the BFT. If you are not tunare alligned this bow will more than hold its own and is a great weapon but as I stated if you are alligned with tunare get the BFT better stats for basically same dmg output.
If your a non-Tunare ranger, this is a decent bow simply for the good ratio, though if your a high level with endless quiver and archery mastery 3, this bow likely poses some arrgo issues in raid and grouping situations as the proc combined with the damage output will **** off mobs to no end unless you've got a warrior with better than epic weapons.
For Tunare Rangers, the Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt is still the best bow for everyday use.
IMO this bow really shines as a quality bow for Rogues and Shadowknights. For rogues; though likely having a slightly better AC in a rangle slot, in combination all the other stats (minus the Int/mana) provides a nice pulling weapon for those rogues that do pull. Ideal SK bow, all stats espcially the Int is nice for them. In addition, the ability to pull with a bow versus a spell keeps mob seperation without using mana.
I have never understood it. I played on Xegony from day one. Quit a little over 2 years ago. Been back about 3 weeks. Was like this when I quit, we have the highest prices of any server, it's crazy. People are charging 18-25k for these still.
I doubt I will see one cheaper, so if you read this, you can probably bet I am still looking for one. If you want to sell one for 10-12k on Xegony, look me up, plat waiting. /tell Sarducci
I play on Xegony as well. these go from 10-12k better yet i bought the needed ingredients for less than 2k and had a friend combine it. Just somehing else to think about.
I play on xegony as well, the trick is to be patient, there are people selling these for 10-12K in bazaar but eventually they will drop their prices. I have heard people auctioning it several times for around 4-7 K. I did not grab one, as I my main is not high enough in lvl to fully enjoy the added stats, and I only use the bow when tanking or soling which is not often for a rogue.
Mind you that I've only had this bow for a short time and I'm only lvl 56, my highest TS was for 498, but my average seems to be 260ish. Non-TS damage is about 130ish.
I pumped out 3k of damage the other night on Sev, with this bow and TS. The fight only lasted less than 1 minute.
No doubt this is an awesome bow. Thing I have noticed is that you have to be high enough or have high level friends to get the parts for you. All the stats rocks but one thing. As a Ranger who really has to look into a great bow. this bow has Int, No wisdom. And the SV Magic is good but the BFT had SV Magic/Cold/Fire which is something you have to really look into. Gotta prepare youself for TOV so a more rounded SV's is better. Besides that,a Ranger with a bow is going to be doing some serious damage with or without the 2pt difference.
