i think i can try to answer that one....
when you pick a deity, you incurr in a dificultypenalty to the game play that you do not incurr when you are agnostic.
agnostic characters have teh advantage of being more widely acepted, so that is their advantage.. less sweat to become acepted, easier traveling arrengements, easier to be acepted, etc.
while the other guys, who have chosen a deity need to work harder for the same things

Why should someone who picked a deity on character creation be favored over agnostic characters ?
Characters with a deity can wear everything already, PLUS they get now all the nifty deity crafted items, such as Fierce Heraldic armor.
This blade has 1 delay more, and 5 AC bonus less, then the Deity versions. Clearly a design decision.
My question is why is this inferior to the Deity versions ?

The same reason agnostic people aren't KOSed by some people due to religion--to make choosing a religion mean more in the game.
