Magic items can hit magic creatures, like wilowisps. Non-magic cannot. Creatures above the level 20 are mostly all magic.

I was in CB with a group and we were killing orcs (What you do in CB) when we found the battle plans, at this time i had no idear there was a weapon quest so my mates gave it to me and i got the sword befor i did all the armour.
str. and int. bonus?
# Sep 20 2002 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
I'm not sure anymore since I never bothered using this weapon once I made it but I don't think it gives a str or int bonus. Just look at the pic of the item. No stat bonuses listed anywhere! I think the Str: +2 Int: +2 is a mistake in the discription.

You need to use the sword and have it grow with you. I gets the Strength, Intelligence and other bonuses as you level with the weapon.
Good Sword
# Aug 24 2002 at 8:29 AM Rating: Excellent
I wish I had this sword when I was starting out. It may not have the bonuses, but it is magical. That alone gives you an edge as 1H slashing magical weapons are expensive and a pain in the *** to get. Before this weapon, non twinkies would have to use a 2H slashing or a blunt weapon to get magic weapon. This was bad cause when you finally were able to do the two-handed attack, you found yourself at a disadvantage with 1H slashing weapons. Now with this weapon, newbies can become very proficient with the 1H slashing skill. :)

COOL

I think its great that Newbs finally have armor quests to go on, I have a 43 Ranger and when I was in the crushbone/kelething days I always wished there was something like this, remember rangers, your PART (not whole) melee, and part caster, so snare root nuke, arrows, then melee, so dont sweat the fact that this isnt an uber sword. If it wasnt for the fact that I like my ranger at 43, I would start another charachter to do these new quests, thanks verant...hmm Think its time to start playing my level 9 elf barb again, they have nice newbie quest armor too.
Remember people, its just a game, get some sleep at night, (not like me, up all night counting hours, watching my exp bar move) hehehe
Good luck all , Enjoy these new quests !
New Armor
# Aug 10 2002 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
As for someone starting a new Ranger with no help, this armor is very nice. I would have preferred other Stats mixed in like Wis or even Agi and Dex. Don't get me wrong the AC, Str and Sta are great but Hybrids need more then just Str and Sta for their types. A Ranger does not use Int to generate mana but uses Wis instead, so why put a useless stat on a Ranger only Item? As for learning it depends on which stat is higher Wis/Int for added learning skill bonuses.

Actually if you'll look at the screenshot, you'll see that the sword doesn't have any stat bumps on it. My ranger has one of these and it does match the screenshot, not the listed stats.
good quest
# Aug 07 2002 at 9:21 AM Rating: Decent
im a lvl 17 rngr and i am not twinked in the littlest. this armour is the only way to go. thank god they made it easy enugh for all of us untwinked rangers.
Nice for HEFs
# Jul 31 2002 at 1:24 AM Rating: Decent
Note that HEF rangers will have the opportunity to pick, mix and match between the Faydark Champions newbie armour and the Pine Scout armour in SureFall Glade. In comparison, the PS longsword is 6/27 +1 str +2 agi, but PRIMARY slot only. HEs could dualwield both the PS & FC longswords to great effect. IIRC the Karana HEF (SFG) will need to do a little faction work with faydark champions to do the kelethin quests.

As an aside, it appears to use the bastard_sword icon, anyone know what model it uses?

Nice
# Jul 28 2002 at 8:38 PM Rating: Good
This is a nice wep for lv. 10 rngr. Also, the boots are magical. My dad is a 42 ranger and he isn't twinked at all, hewould have loved a magic weapon and boots at that lv. You have to have magic boots to kick willowisps and the like. I like the new things.
The stat bonuses
# Jul 28 2002 at 1:44 AM Rating: Default
Rangers are the most powerful at attack of the hybrids, having a offence of 300 and defence of 200. But yes int does seem a bit stupid but 1 thing... ITS A SWORD! as long as the other gear has WIS then u get a bonus (a character with high int and higher wis gets a bonus on lvling and learning)

and besides... its a quest,
RE: The stat bonuses
# Jul 31 2002 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
Wow, you're an idiot.
RE: The stat bonuses
# Jul 29 2002 at 1:38 AM Rating: Decent
huh???

First off... THERE ARE NO STAT BONUSES ON THIS SWORD!!
(actual info for the sword is as I posted under the quest thread... I'd have posted the pic, but I can't be bothered croping and converting to jpeg format for web publishing, and Illia and the crew are too busy)

Second... "a character with high int and higher wis gets a bonus on lvling and learning"
since when???

Int and Wis have NO EFFECT on leveling... and only the higher of the two has an effect on raising tradeskills (such as Fletching... the most useful tradeskill for a Ranger)
RE: The stat bonuses
# Jul 30 2002 at 11:12 PM Rating: Default
well there is no effect on lvling but as far as learning skills having higher int helps learn skills faster, ever for ranges who are wisdom based
RE: The stat bonuses
# Aug 01 2002 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
Verant has stated, for a majority of skills, it depends on which trait is higher. Therefore an SK with 140 int will have just as much chance of learning tailoring as a Ranger of 140 wis will have learning the same skill.

Verant has also stated at one of the recent Fan Faires that tradeskill secondary traits can replace Int/Wis in the check for raises. Strength for Blacksmithing and Dexterity for most other trade skills can be used in place of Int/Wis. This is to allow Melee classes to learn skills at the same rate as Casters classes without needing to have specific Intel gear just to trade skill with.

Summed up, you get tradeskill raises based only on the Highest of Intel, Wisdom or (Dex/Strength). And, despite the old popular rumors, successes are based exclusively on your skill level vs trivial level. High Wisdom has no effect at all.

Geez - some people are never happy. These quests are meant for low levs and from what I can see, are cake to complete. What did you expect for killing a coupla Orcs - a Centi Longsword? At level 10, I woulda chewed off my own arm for this sword and a coupla bits of the armour, so come on, spend a few nights collecting the quest pieces killing the mobs you would be killing anyways at this level and be grateful for the leg-up. Alternatively, if you are a big twinkie and so think this stuff is crap, don't post here.

RE: Hmm
# Jul 27 2002 at 5:25 AM Rating: Default
Well... one of the guilds is called the Faydarks Champions.. and it doesnt take much to kill an orc, which i guess would make you a champion of say, a decaying skeleton? =P

Edited, Sat Jul 27 06:13:24 2002
not really
# Jul 27 2002 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
these quests are meant for non twinks and first time players, the reward is very nice for them, if you can name another wep that can be gotten by rangers with the same ease then name it.
what the?

Unlike what it says above, this weapon has no stat bonuses whatsoever. Very crappy reward for those elven rangers out there. Sorry rangers.
RE: what the?
# Jul 27 2002 at 6:33 PM Rating: Good
You've got to remember that rangers can track at the level they can do these quests, making them over twice as fast. So unlike the other classes who spend more time doing their armor and weapon quest, rangers can do it in half the time and go on and level, giving them an advantage. That is probably why this weapon isn't as good as some other ones.

WTF, this is a noob weapon you get at like level 10 what do you expect for free? damn twinked noob ingrates these days, sheesh

But in all honesty, +2int? What is up with that? Pretty pointless for a ranger weapon even if it is only a newbie quest one. Aside from that, nothing wrong with it if you are a struggling, no-pp newbie with no-one to help you start out. :)
