Shadows of Luclin
I have the great pleasure of wielding this weapon.
The raw unadjusted DPS of this item due to JUST the proc alone is 37 DPS. This is with dex at 305 on Al'kabor. This does not factor in crits and resists.
PC side, the DPS is 59 (the procmod was changed from 0, to +1, then to +58). This is likely the best weapon DPS from a proc alone up to the PoP expansion.
I assume that for Enchanters, Magicians and Necromancers that no cold focuses affect it. HOWEVER, for wizards, cold focuses DO affect it, further upping its DPS. (Until a non-wizard on Al'kabor has it, I have no way of personally verifying this, I'll update it when someone does.)
I believe that for classes that can cast a particular spell, that if they have an item that procs the same effect, that some focuses might affect it. In this weapon's case, a cold focus does affect it if you're a wizard. A bard's nuke song might also affect it, but I've yet parse a fight with a bard in group. I'll do so at some point and state if it does or not.
Overall, this weapon yeilds better dps than medding while fighting a raid mob, and is an excellent companion when rune tanking (it sometimes goes off during the 2.25 seconds when you can't do anything and are just waiting for the spell icon to light up).
Mostly though... can you ever get tired of seeing Ice Comet go off ;-)

If i were to get a nice group of people together would my lvl 25 wizzy be able to go through with them to loot this or would he die from mobs first

I've got a good point, the INT casters, as we all know have jack for melee ability, and will rarely hit at all... the BEAUTIFUL thing with procs, you can swing and miss all day, and still proc. Who cares if you do actual melee damage, it dosnt amount to anything on the mobs your fighting, the proc will be noticed tho. really great item i wish shamans could use it! >: )

But procing this and critting for 2200 would be an awsome extra dps.
Question: Does this even drop anymore? I thought i had read somewhere that the RoF event was taken out when they revamped AC.

Nothing like being a caster, tapping a mob on the shoulder "Pardon me, have you tasted this new flavor of Ice Comet? Trust me, you'll love it! Here have some." I can just see some Gnomish Enchanter Force feeding this to Fire Giants in Sol B. Hell, I'd make a caster for this item alone!
I have used DC with my enc and even just regular charm spells (Beckon), giving pets NO DROP weapons does not work. The pet not only will keep the weapon, but it wont wield it as well.

Posted: Mar 24 2003 at 12:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i'm sorry but you are wrong. beastlords and mages regulkarly get the summond no drop fists from that lvl 62 spell (fists which are pet only sinc ehtey have "none" listed fro race) to their pets, and the pets not only use the weapons, but proc them as well.

The weapon summoned by that spell is NOT no-drop anyway lol =P
he just said you couldn't equip no drop weapons on pets. That's why the weapons mages summon for their pets are class: none race: none, because they are quite nice for a twink or whatnot :)

so this item gonna make me do more DPS than a uhm........ rogue will?, think of it i tank a bit here and there, after 3-4 procs boom i get smacked from the aggro. might want to use this item around 70 health but damn this item is insane........

one little tag: NO DROP
Mages can't give their pet their expended epic to wield, because their epic is NO DROP. You can't give an NPC a no drop item and expect they will wield it, the item just poofs. The screenshot you saw was probably just either somebody in skeleton form with name tags off or a fake.

One little note... learn before you post, no drop items can be given to npc's and yes pets. However if you give a no drop item to an NPC it will not be on its corpse when it dies. Personally tho... I would be a little irked with a caster that gave this to a pet hehe, ok so casters don't ahve the best melee but an IC proc rules... and hte speed on it makes that worth while. How can you say no to a free ice comet.
Funny thing, my 49 necro pet does not wield no drop 1hs weapons. No graphic, and he still hits (instead of slashing).

no idea. But ive given my pet lots of no drop stuff.
And it hasn't used them. It eats them.
They specifically made this change to stop enchanters from being able to pass on no drop items by charming a player during a /duel and then just giving their new "pet" whatever no drop item they want to pass on.
I've tried this with my chanter and my wife's rogue. The no drop item is simpley destroyed!

Nice weapon. Technically speaking, with the +4cold dmg, it turns it into a 24dmg 20delay 1hb.
As for the proc....What caster in their right mind would be melee'ing, granted, its fun as hell though

Imagine it in the hands of a Necromancer who was fearing mobs and running along behind them with his pet. Dink, dink, dink, dink, **ICE COMET**, dink, dink. Seems like something that would probably be used mostly for soloing purposes, but it's a freaking nuclear weapon in that situation.
I only have a Katta staff of peace (look it up. it's a **** poor melee weapon compared to this for casters) and durring long fights after I lay my dots on, what do I do? I melee. I can't sit otherwise I risk being summoned and necros have the worst DDs in the game so it's not easy to quickly dump mana into big nukes if you don't count taps, wich I don't. My meleeing may only be a few hundred damage durring a fight but that's still better than the zero damage from not meleeing. Aggro wouldn't even be an issue because feign aggro managment is cake. I'd kill for this wand (no pun intended).
From the screen shots on necro.eqclasses.com from the guy who actually got this, I assume it's a drop later in the Ring of Fire event in Acrylia caverns. He posted screenies of him actually looting it and I saw torches in the background and it was a pretty small room. Just like the RoF event. Of cource, it could be off one of the ring events in the royals area in Acrylia seeing as I've never been there so I don't know what they look like. FYI, the royals area is VERY annoying to get a raid to. Big difficult time sink key war.
Edit: Blah! Diddn't even bother to look to see if the mob that dropped it was listed. It was. :) RoF it is!

As a shadowknight with spell casting fury i do critical on weapon procs. Im not sure if a wizard without the AA ability will still critical on procs like they can on spells.

I wish this post wasn't so old, but you need to be informed as to your lacking of brain capacity.

I have seen some of the stuff that drops at the third wave. I imagine that if this is real it came from the last wave of mobs. And I REALLY want to do the quest.
