This was a fluke. He does NOT offer them as part of his regular inventory. Someone must have sold some to him and you were lucky enough to get there and buy them. Just had my char in front of him and no Chunk of Condensed Shadow in his inventory.

Night/Day spawn cycle?
# Nov 06 2004 at 6:19 PM Rating: Decent
So do the Shak Drathas in the tunnels take the place of the Brown guys at Night? If thats true does it mean you have to kill the brown guys to make a spot for the Darkies or do they just take their places? I soooo hate farming this crap.

** This applies to the Shak Dratha/Gor Taku in Shadeweaver's Thicket **

I have been farming Condensed Shadow for my fletching as well and after a few days of this I started to notice something about the spawn cycles. I always got streaks of either Shak Dratha or Gor Taku. In other words, I never got alternating spawns of Shak, Gor and then then another Shak (or vice versa). I also noticed that sometimes when the room was re-popping I would see all the same type spawn then suddenly the rest of the room would spawn the opposite. It suddenly occurred to me how the cycle works and was at first surprised how simple it was, because it should have been figured out a long time ago. I also realized why no one put it all together. You cannot check EQ time on the moon. So no one noticed the correalation that Shak Dratha only spawn and night and Gor Taku only spawn during the day. I tested this out again and killed specifically just before nighttime and found Gor Taku spawning and immediately upon 7 PM (EQ time) the rest of the spawns were Shak Dratha. I then tried the opposite (killing just before daytime) and had the opposite results. A few more days of testing and the results were always the same.

Shak Dratha only spawned during nightime hours.
Gor Taku only spawned during daytime hours.

Did some further testing based on your findings...first, big thanks. Of the 3 condensed items for fletching, this is the easiest to farm. This is how I do it.

I am a level 69 ranger with the Druzzil Compound long range heavy subnuclear artillery bow...grin, class 7 drakebone drakespike arrow, EQ, AM3, TS2, HS2 with all the accuracy and dex buffs attached. I equip with Swiftwind, a Radiant Voidflow of Haste, and Distillant of Alacrity X (some overlap there, but want to max out the haste as much as possible). When you solo, you can get up to 5 rooms to pop with the shak dratha mobs in one game night if you use a bow and are fast.

Start by parking near the entrance of the northwest most room. You want to start in the north because the mobs fall fast here, and become progressively harder to drop with a single shot as you go south. You will need either a friend planetside or a bot to check the time since you cant where you are at. Just after 4pm, start dropping the mobs as fast as you can. Don't worry about looting, if you do that you are wasting time.

Once all the mobs drop in the NW room, move to the NE and do the same. Then move south, hitting the rooms along the way as you go. The only one I dont hit on the way south is the one to the SE about midways, too far off the NS path. Keep doing time checks along the way and drop the mobs as fast as you can. If you have SoE you can drop the mobs in the two big pit rooms from the top of the ramp before floating down to take care of the ones that are hiding behind the pillars. Don't forget to drop the mobs as well.

Keep going until about 12am or so, I've almost got the time pegged down now, I know that any room I start after 12am or so will repop the Gor Taku instead of the Shak. Once I hit 12am I usually get 4-5 rooms done completely, I head back to the first room and start collecting the chunks of condensed shadow. Yesterday I was able to farm 42 of them in two night runs, not too shabby.

The entire run including repops starts at 4pm and goes until about 12pm-1pm, so its pretty good for time, gives me enough time to repark the start point and go do a bio, drinks, etc..

Hope this helps all you flethers out there, let me know.

Edit: Found out you can start around what would be 4:20pm or so game time. Start north as explained, do the rooms east and to the south to the big pit room on the north south route. Go back to the north and kill the mobs, looting the chunks, continue killing and looting to the south again to the pit room. If fast enough, the two most northern rooms will repop again with the mobs with the chunks of condensed shadow. Top loot so far is 28 chunks in one run.

thanks, this helped out a lot. combining this knowledge with the knowledge that an EQ day lasts 72 minutes goes a long way towards farming effectively. still takes a while, though. guess it can't be helped.

These go for 10pp - 15pp EACH in the bazaar on Kane Bayle. Pretty ridiculous for a drop from such low level mobs. I dumped 37 of them for 140pp when I made a deal for a bulk purchase. Extremely nice cash for poor low level characters.

So when you're farming for those silks, make sure to pick these up also!

- Akak and Akuk
- lvl 24 Iksar Necromancers
- Kane Bayle

shafts?
# Jan 16 2003 at 10:01 PM Rating: Default
Ok I am a 250 fletcher on Tarrew Marr - I have like roughly 400 of these arrowheads made - any ideas on what shafts need to be used with these? Must I make condensed shadow shafts as well or bone or steel, etc?
RE: shafts?
# Feb 17 2004 at 10:31 PM Rating: Decent
I realize this post was from over a year ago, but how in Tunare's name did you get to 250 in Fletching without ever making acrylia arrows? If there's an good option, please let me know. It's a neusance to have to farm acrylia AND condensed substance. Not to mention the fact that Fletching goes up so insanely slow now.

Any advise on this? Thanks in advance.

I decided that I had better get my fletching skill up for my prayer shawl quesy (it was only a measly 20 - I'm lvl 65!). So I went down to the fletching trader's building in POK armed with about 1k pp from memory and started fletching.

Withing about an hour I had gone from 20 to 195 and still had pp left over. That is not slow IMO...

I went to GoD, killed everything in site until I got a Shell Inlaid Collar. Sold it for 75k. Proceeded to make bows right at the vendor in the pok until i reached 235, add my geerlock and i am 246. Bought an artisan seal, bingo got my GM knife on first try. I now make Mithril Champion arrows for skillups. Have over 200 attempts saved up. Should hit 250 farely soon.

You can make wood elf cultural arrows and bows instead of these, more recently you can also make karana only bows/arrows instead of tunare only bows/arrows

Condensed shadow/flame/etc can be smithed into arrow heads for your local fletcher to make some very slick arrows with.

You will need a forge + file + condensed whatever + flask of water to smith 2 arrow heads.

I've had good luck finding this on the Shak Dratha Raiders in the camps near the Paludal zone. Haven't tried farming any of the camps in the southern parts of the caves, since they were still blue to 33 and the Shak Dratha/Gor Taku in the northern parts were green. I found the camp in the room just off the exit towards the newbie area of Shadeweavers was a good place for an early 30's to farm, if you don't mind killing Gor Taku a bit until Shak Dratha spawn. Also, the trivial on the arrowheads is 135.
