I dont think computer crashing bugs are minor bugs. I also dont think bugs that cause many hours of tedious planning and execution to be wasted as minor. Im not whining, I have never complained about the game until the pok/collison bugs emerged. I didnt ask for better graphics, and until MANY of our guild members got stuck in walls otm to various locations within the raided zone, I didnt care about the collision bug. There have been instances where MAJOR lag in zones killed us, then GMs say there is no problem with the whole zone, even when the entire raid force knows its lagging, I didnt even complain about this. The reason I am complaining now, is things are getting worse.

I believe more testing can, and should, be done before putting out a final product that causes somebody to restart their computer, or somebody to wait hours on end for a rude, impatient GM to come to the rescue. Although, recent news has indicated SoE will be fixing GoD, and fixing the bugs that cause problems within the game, delaying their newest expansion until issues are resolved. News of this stature makes me content.

Also, since this last patch, I must admit, I have not crashed once in the PoK. Although the patch message did not indicate this fix was implemented, Sony and its programmers may have started getting on the roll with making their product better. It is effort like this that can result in higher customer satisfaction.

Will they fix everything? No, that is not possible. Every game has a bug in it somewhere, EQ is no exception. The bigger the game, the more bugs. Although, any game I buy, I do not expect to blow hours of waiting or gameplay, only to be screwed over due to some "minor" bug. If a single player game discribed as such was released, imagine what type of reviews magazine editors would give it, imagine the things that would be said about it. If a single player game was released as EQ was at the time of its dx9 implementation, with a sugg. price of nearly $100, under those standards, many people would want their money back.

I understand ironing out bugs takes massive time, but that is what the test server is for. Putting a graphic engine out that is not ready for the general fan base to use is not a very good idea. Now that it is live, we have no choice but to wait until they fix the bugs. It is things like this that makes me judge Sony everytime I think of buying one of their "finished" products. Everquest is a fun game, with alot of content, replay value, and indescribable fun within, but parts of the game are turning into an unplayable state.

Messages that reassure the public goes a long way in keeping their customers. Hopefully they will back it up, because honestly, I do not want the new expansion. I have bought enough, and I am getting tired of poking out an extra $30 every 4 months on top of $12 every single month. We really dont need another expansion, and I havnt talked to many people that want to spent the time to level to 70. It is just another way to keep people playing longer. The longer people will play = the longer accounts stay open. Another money hungry move by SoE.

I can understand about the bugs with being in walls and stuff. It is the other little things that have very little significance on the game play that the picky people blow up out of proportion. I also agree with you about expansion after expansion. Just make one good one and get it over with. Especially now that EQ2 is going to ship in another month or two.

As far as DX9, it was put on the test server for at least a half a year and we were warned for months before it was implemented. It isn't the fact that it should be tested forever, it is the fact that more people should go to the test server to test it. Then the bugs could be fixed better before main release.
    Griping
    # May 29 2004 at 6:56 AM Rating: Excellent
There is one thing I have never understood about people. You have a game that has several million lines of code in it. You have people who play this game. In the beginning they gripe about how the game needs improvements because the graphics aren't good or the combat could be more realistic. These are not really bugs, just people are unsatisfied with it. So, the designers listen and try to improve the game. Like anything else that takes the degree of designing that EQ does, there is going to be bugs. Now, the ones that never requested the changes are happy with the new improvments and overlook the bugs for the most part knowing they will be fixed. The others (that requested the changes) are not happy that they got the improvements. They have to pull the game a part and down it at it's every turn so the designers have to go fix minor problems which lead to other problems. This makes the insatiable idiots more upset because either they didnt get what they originally wanted (wwhhhhaaaa) or there is still minor bugs (wwwhhhaaa). If your going to be like that, do one of two things. 1) Shut up and play the game and give them a chance to fix it. 2) Quit playing the game. Either way, quit being so negative on every little flaw and taking the enjoyment away from others that overlook the minor problems in place of the major improvements.

    # May 30 2004 at 12:54 PM Rating: Decent
Just as on the EQ boards, there are one or two people, who in my opinion are Sony employees, who state that minor bugs are no big deal and we should go about and play the game and shut up. Well, guess what, WE CAN NOT PLAY THE FREAKING GAME because of the bugs. Since the last patch, I have crashed SEVEN times and have died in 6 of them. I have since reported the bug EACH TIME, I have asked for a CSR rez due to falling for 20k damage through the new "Ticket System" as is required. That was FOUR days ago and still no answer. This new ticket system is as bogus as the old petition system.

I own a business and if there is a problem, my customers do not want to hear about how hard my job is, how difficult it is to do my job right, or how if they don't like it they should buy somewhere else. Bottom line is, if I don't provide my service right, my customer is deserving of not only a refund, but should also go somewhere else since I apparently cannot do my job I am PAID to do right.

So to all of you who cry and whine about us "Gripers", grow up and join the real world, where customers are a priority and not a nuisance.
    Why so much hate?
    # May 29 2004 at 1:17 AM Rating: Default
Why does every time a patch release everyone jumps to criticize it? At least they are doing stuff to make the game better. Yes sometimes patches make bugs but that happens with anything, fix something up and something else breaks.

I don't see this patch as useless even a tiny bit. They tutorial thing really helps new players and is a great idea. I can't count how many games I have left because I don't understand anything and there is no where to go for help for TRUE newbies.

You can't say that they are not fixing bugs. My roge would quite often bet stuck in the water in SH and I would sit there for hours waiting for a GM to help me out. That is no fun at all and not it's fixed. And they are also trying to fix the pathing/collision issues as well which really need to be fixed. And you can't tell me that you don't love the option to turn off the Bazzar traders. I hated having so much lag that I could'nt even move the mouse fast enough to look up items.

They can only do so much at a time and I'm sure they have many different people working on different issues. And these ones just got finished first while the other team is working on the other bugs. Why not think a little more positive for a change and lighten your mood. It really sucks when your outlook on everything is really negative.

    Great job SoE!

    Rant on

That is the amount of money paid for by subscribers each month to Sony.

I have based this number on a subscription base of 500,000, which is around the number that SOE have claimed in the past.

Now I dont know about you lot who read this post, but for 6.4million dollars a month, you would think that SOE could get an Expansion right, let alone a patch to fix a bugged patch that fixed a bugged expansion that subscribers paid if half the subscribers bought 5million dollars for.

I wonder if SOE could send all the subscribers a new pc that matches the specs of there developers machines, for that money i think they could buy a factory in korea or some other cheap labor cost nation and give every subscriber a new platform with each expansion, THEN maybe the subscribers might want to be part of the beta test of each and every new patch or expansion that seems to be the way SOE do business.

I assume the recent patch caused this. I logged in last night as my new dark elf necro (not original I know), summoned my skellie and he was running around chest deep in the ground. He would run up a hill, slide down to the bottom, then run up again, slide down again, etc. All while up to his chest in the ground. He could still fight, but it was hard to find him most of the time. Maybe it was just a glich in the summon. Hopefully tonight it will be fixed.

    Anyone else have this problem?
    Cornering...
    # May 27 2004 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
Wow SoE, you created another useful bug. My guild goes to fight Emperor SSRA, and let me tell my experience... Working our way to the sig camp, we kill a few sigs, and find that whenever we corner mobs, our tanks keep getting stuck, but we overcome. We get into the room, get the adds mezzed/offtanked, go to corner Blood of SSRA, and he summons our MT right into the wall with him. Now our MT is unable to get out of the wall, so we have to let him die. He dies, we battle rez, kill Blood, and get rdy for EMP. When emp attacks, we decide cornering is not the thing to do, so we try to keep all adds away from Emp. Well, a tank loses aggro on a mob, and since we cannot corner the emp, the MT starts getting beat down, and everything goes haywire from there.

So, instead of flawlessly killing the emp like we did 2 weeks ago with the same amount of people, we wipe at 95%. What a great patch Sony, I applaud your efforts to test stuff out before going live. Your planning is brilliant, programming is excellent, and your implementation of DX9 proved to be a total success in interesting your fan base. If this keeps up, I will be sure to cancel my account, and wont even buy another Sony TV or PS2 game, as long as your competent staff creates them.

So, you didn't adjust to a new way of handling things. Change the way you do things instead of always killing one way. I don't see this as a major bug, its been on test server for a long time. We just changed how we do the run. Its still possible to complete, and not all that different from before.

    Wow Mr. Trellium,

And you would blame the old lady crossing the street for being hit instead of the driver who's fault it is..

From 2 weeks ago, the performance has gone down, the mobs attack from ceilings, the project manager implements code to correct buggy produt, i.e., /rewind, : from one professional programmer to an entire company of programmers, but mostly the project managers - THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
    RE: Cornering...
    # May 27 2004 at 5:49 PM Rating: Decent
So im guessing its our fault we failed? Our MT got stuck in a wall, and we need to work around sonys bugs, right? Thats unacceptable, and I cannot believe we should be expected to work around the bugs, rather than have them corrected, so the game can be played properly. I am sure we can do it another way, but if in some instance this annoying bug coincidently gets another character stuck in a wall, and blows the entire raid, its our strategy that needs to be reformed. Total BS, we pay to play/have fun, your paid to fix/test, do your job, so we can do ours. It is never fun to die, and to suggest we need to work around bugs that are unacceptable or we die, is completely irrational.

Raids can take hours to form up to kill one single mob. If one or several bug wipes us, that is not my definition of fun, and the people that get paid to fix these errors, should do what we are paying them for. I understand bugs can take a while to fix, but the "game-stopping" bugs need to be worked out before being implemented, as if they are not, it can be destructive to the game, and its fan base.
    RE: Cornering...
    # May 27 2004 at 11:27 AM Rating: Decent
Exactly we shouldn't have to adapt to being stuck in a wall.

If they changed the way an encounter works then yes you should adapt. If they introduce a defect that causes people to be stuck in a wall and renders the strategy invalid SOE should fix the defect.

The fact that it's been on test for a long time and is still not fixed is a sad testament to how much attention SOE pays to the people on test.

The fact that some think we should all adapt to the numerous defects in the game and just be quite is a side testament about some consumers lowered expectations... SNL should do a skit on that...

I have occasionally gotten mobs both stuck in the floor and in the ceiling... I play 2 instances of EQ on one machine and one on another and frequently it only happens on one of the instances on the first machine. Other times it appears only on the machine running one instance and sometimes on the first machine when running only one instance.

    # May 27 2004 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
BS, getting summoned into a wall or having a mob jump into a wall is unacceptable. I dont think the first poster meant they couldn't do it different but when you go someplace for the first time and the entire encounter has changed when do you make a change, probably after wiping as they did. I'm sure you test server types are much more adaptable, but I'm glad you were able to let the SOE devs know it was a bug so the rest of us stupid people can complain about it when it goes live still bugged.
    pok fixed for me
    # May 26 2004 at 10:40 PM Rating: Decent
From what I can see the pok bug is gone. I've been in there run around zoned in and out and so far no problems. I wonder if that was part of the collision problem.

As for the mobs in the floor yup, that's still an issue, but funny enough we have 4 computers here and we only have that issue consistantly on ONE of them, but it has the same video card, amount of memory, size processor, etc... It's going to take some time to figure that one out I think, but at least some of the things are being fixed.

Quite frankly I'd not want them to wait until they have 100% fixed to release the patch because it would be a much larger patch first of all, and secondly I'd rather have things fixed a couple at a time NOW then wait a long time to have *anything* fixed.
    RE: pok fixed for me
    # May 27 2004 at 9:08 PM Rating: Decent
I think the issue is not that Sony should wait to fix everything before they patch, but to fix them before they put NEW things into the game.

If you have a car with a flat, your priority would be to fix the tire, not get a paint job for the car!

the poster was talking about a charm not a charm spell i think. if you do the whole thing it gives you a charm and it really isnt a bad one 5 to most stats and 10 hp/mana.

Once again you can thank SONY EQ for giving us a download where NOTHING that needs to be fixed was fixed. PoK bug being the number 1 issue at the moment, characters falling through the floor of the zone number 2, NPCs in the ground or floor number 3.
Do we really need autobank? Maybe EQ2 does.
Did anyone find anything wrong with the previous guild management system? Did it need to be fixed?
A new tool to have your petition ignored, or not answered for a week or more. More GM's or more reliable GM's is the answer here.
When are the really important downloads going to materialize. Six months after EQ2 comes out?

Hate to say, but 6 months after eq2 comes out sony will be doing everything in their power to move peeps from EQ1 over to EQ2. I know the flamers and the hardcore will reject the idea of sony "abandoning" them and all the "HARD WORK and TIME " that theyve put into their Chars. But when sony wants you to do something they can and they will. ALL HAIL SONY! You! with the can of mountain Dew! I didnt get a Hail out of you! --You Have been Disconnected--

    I like auto-bank though :)

Still wishing they would let us name our pets one time like our own names /petname <insert>. Hey! maybe in EQ2 ;)
