That explains it somewhat, but.... why did they make the job point gains so wonky? Everybody gets 1 action per turn, so why are some peoples' actions more valuable than others?
FF5 did something similarly stupid, instead of making some classes gain JP slower, they made it take more for a levelup instead for some jobs. At least they fixed the JP system by Final Fantasy Tactics, anyhow. All jobs got the same JP, and everybody needed the same to level; you just merely needed to buy abilities and those are what varied in JP cost.

Final Fantasy III to Re-Launch on Steam
The title has been optimized for PC with improved 3D visuals and story sequences.
Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy III will be coming soon to Steam, on May 27, 2014. Along with improved graphics and story sequences the game will also feature Steam Trading Cards, Achievements and a visual redesign of the Job Mastery Cards. Other supported features are full controller support and cloud saving.
