Well, LucasArts is no longer a developer, I'm sure BioWare currently has some kind exclusive right to operate a Star Wars MMO for a certain number of years, and the overall shift in the focus of the franchise following Disney's purchase has yet to be seen.

I'm going to go ahead and wager that this petition has far less potential than most other online petitions.

Also Galaxies was considered was part of the EU, and Disney said that they're avoiding everything that wasn't part of the movies or the Clone Wars cartoon.

What's less than zero?

I suppose it means this petition is increasing Disney's desire to not make it?

Re: EU stuff, is that going to include the Old Republic era stuff? I get not wanting to bother with anything post-movies, because the plot lines there were atrocious and I assume Disney wants to completely rewrite it, but avoiding the old era seems odd. It's a whole lot of assets they paid for, with a decently established fandom via KotOR -> TOR.

Either way, if they're scrapping the EU altogether and remaking it, my interest in the series just dropped quite a bit further. And it was already pretty damn low, in light of other events since the takeover.

I would guess their excuse for not wanting to release it would involve competition for The Old Republic. I never did care for Galaxies. I played it the day it hit stores and despised the leveling system (and it ran horrible on what was a pretty modern PC at the time). I tried it when they did the revamp (if you want to call it that) and enjoyed it until getting out of the tutorial and finding it pretty much a dead game.

I'll go way out on a limb and wager any future Star Wars MMO will mirror the new movies they're planning on releasing. In 5 or 6 more years SWTOR will be showing its age, people will be all excited about the new movies, and there'll be a new MMO in the works to cash in on that, using whatever mechanics and features are popular at the time. At the time development starts of course, not 5 additional years later once the market has moved on and game feels old and stale in comparison Smiley: rolleyes

God, sometimes I remember how much potential TOR had and it just hurts. Smiley: frown

It's as good of a game as you could possibly get by combining tab-targetting combat, Star Fox, and a cash shop. Smiley: nod

I'm still playing it at the moment, but I blame the story lines for drawing me in over and over again. Choosing your responses and all the voice-acting and such. The saving grace of the game really. Best single-player MMO ever.

I try not to bother with potential and hype. It always results in getting burned.

Yeah, there's really little value in TOR as a multiplayer game, but plenty as a single player game. I log in every so often, but my interest has been waning again.

I've heard people say better things about the PvP as of late, but I've yet to try it myself despite spending a good amount of time on that stuff in WoW. I have no idea about end-game PvE. You meet so many people who just enjoy leveling alt after alt.

To be honest, I can't remember the last time I cared about PVP outside of a specifically PVP game. Honestly, I'm getting tired of it in MMOs. Not because I don't want it there, but because Devs still insist on trying to put PVE and PVP in the same big balance pot.

I fail to see the value in making every player want to rip their hair out on patch day, instead of just the PVPers (who were going to be upset regardless).

And because I have literally never gone into a MMO with the intention of taking part in endgame madness, TOR was fine for me in most respects.

That said, after playing GW2 and going back to TOR, its combat definitely felt stale. So does WoW's, for that matter, but still.

TOR has too many abilities that vary too little. GW2 gave me abilities that could combo in different ways, that had different AOE shapes and sizes, and included almost no reskinned copies of the same nuke with slightly different math equations on them.

I fully intend to waste a bunch of time in Wildstar as either a scholar or an explorer, whenever it comes out. That desire was more than reaffirmed when they added sociopath squirrels.

And FFXIV feels both classic and new in ways that I like. It has a lot of features, particularly with player housing, crafting, jobs, etc., that I really miss with modern MMOs. And while the combat isn't a massive change, it's fresh enough that I'm happy so far.
